“Confucius, does the sentence ‘To learn and repeatedly review what one has learned, isn’t that a joy?’ mean that we should always go over our lessons?” asked a student at Xinyilu Primary School. The digital “Confucius”nodded and replied, “Yes. By going over what one has learned, one can discover new ideas”
With the development of AI technology, historical figures can communicate with students. AI is now part of daily teaching that improves traditional education. Huiwen Middle School has explored AI since 2017, starting with a science club about AI and robots. By 2022, they began to include courses on robots and drones (无人机).
Across China, more schools are using smart boards and AI technology to improve teaching. Parents speak highly of AI’s ability to make lessons fun and increase interest. A mother of a fifth-grade student said, “My daughter has growing interest in making slides (幻灯片) because of Al, I hope she will be encouraged by this and get to know computer technologies.”
However, some teachers and parents have apprehensions (顾虑). They think that depending too much on AI could have negative effects on students’ problem-solving skills, as some students prefer asking AI for answers instead of thinking for themselves. Experts suggest AI in education should guide learning and encourage students to think more, not replace independent thinking.
1.According to the digital “Confucius”, how can one discover new ideas?
2.Since Huiwen Middle School began to explore AI, how long has it taken to include drones in their courses?
3.What are more schools using to improve teaching besides smart boards across China?
4.Why do parents speak highly of AI’s ability?
5.In experts’ opinion, should Al encourage students to think more or replace independent thinking?

Everyone is talking about “digital citizen”, but what is it? Well, a digital citizen is someone who often uses the Internet. A good digital citizen uses the Internet wisely, follows the Internet rules and helps make the Internet a great world for everyone. Are you a good digital citizen? If you don’t know how to use the Internet properly, here are some suggestions.
Stay safe
Do not tell anyone online your real name, phone number, home address or even the area where you live. Because bad people can use your personal information to find you. So you should be really careful with it.
Show respect
Just like in real life, it’s important to behave well online. For example, if you want to post a video or a photo of someone, make sure you ask for his or her agreement first. Remember that everybody can have their own opinions. It’s OK to disagree, but always be polite!
Be kind
Before you post your opinion online, stop and think. How will your words make someone feel? Don’t say something that would hurt someone. If you see someone being bullied online, tell your parents or teachers.
Be careful
Don’t trust everyone or everything online. It’s possible that people on the Internet are not telling the truth. Never open emails from strangers or click on strange links (链接). Tell your parents or teachers if someone online makes you feel uncomfortable.
Spending time online can be great if you’re a good digital citizen. So, be safe and have fun.
1.What is a digital citizen?
2.How many pieces of advice are given?

An Unforgettable Experience Online
The Internet has changed the world.
回答问题,阅读短文,回答下面的五个问题。
We all need cash (现金) in order to live our lives. However, something called electronic currency (电子货币) is slowly taking the place of cash. A currency is a kind of money. Usually, we use currency when we talk about a country’s money. If the currency is electronic, it only exists (存在) on a computer or smart phones.
Lots of people have electronic currency accounts. They use a credit card to change their real money into electronic money, and then the money goes into the electronic currency account. In China, more and more people choose to pay by Wechat or Alipay, the two most popular messaging apps in which people can have their electronic currency accounts.
A lot of people wonder “Why in the world should I change my real money into electronic currency?” This is a fair question, but there’s a good answer. If you want to buy something online, then you usually have to use electronic currency. For example, if you’re in China and you want to buy something in Canada, then you’ll have to pay with electronic currency. With more trust in the electronic currency, people in China are used to paying by Wechat even when they do the everyday market shopping!
Many people still don’t trust electronic currency. Some people think that if they can’t hold their money in their hand, then it doesn’t seem real. Another problem is security (安全). There are hackers all over the world. A hacker is a person who steals computer information. If a hacker gets the password of your electronic currency account, he or she can steal your money without your noticing it.
You have to decide whether or not you trust this new invention. However, whether you want to use it or not, you can hardly avoid it in your life.
1.What is a currency?
2.How many messaging apps are mentioned in the passage?
3.Do you use digital currency or cash when you buy things online?
4.How does a hacker steal your money without your noticing it?
5.You can avoid using digital money in your life, can’t you?

Do you speak a dialect, which means local language, in daily life? While many Chinese people speak putonghua, some local dialects are in danger of disappearing. To save them, the Chinese government started the Chinese Language Resources Protection Project a few years ago.
This project looks at how people talk in 1,712 places. Their languages include 103 dialects that are almost gone. It has helped China to build the largest language resource library in the world. There’s an online library. In it people can learn dialects from over 5. 6 million audio clips and over 5 million videos.
Why is it important to protect the dialect culture? According to Harold Palmer, a world expert on language, “dialects are a key to store local cultures. Language clearly shows the history and beliefs of an area,” he said.
Scholar Zhang Hongming talked about his worries about the disappearing of dialects. “For about over 10 years, in the Wu dialect areas such as Shanghai and Suzhou, children aged 6 to 15 can understand but hardly speak the dialect. Young people above 15 years old sometimes speak it, but not very well. If this keeps happening, the dialect might disappear,” he said.
So how did China make this big library? “A big national effort has been put into the project to make it happen,” said Cao Zhiyun, an expert on the project. “Over five years, more than 350 universities and research groups joined in, along with over 4,500 experts and more than 6,000 dialect speakers.”
The project is now entering into its second part. This includes creating digital tools like apps and mobile dictionaries to help people learn dialects.
1.Why did the Chinese government start the Chinese Language Resources Protection Project?
2.Where can people learn dialects from audio clips and videos?
3.What did Zhang Hongming worry about?
4.How many universities and research groups joined in the project?
5.What does the project’s second part include?

Smart Libraries: Changing How We Read
Last month, our school opened a smart library that uses technology to make reading more fun and convenient. The library is full of new tools that surprise everyone! Here’s how it works:
Self-Service Borrowing
Students can borrow books in two ways: use a phone camera to read the code (二维码) on the book, or use face recognition at a machine. No more waiting in line! The system also sends reminders to return books through the school app.
Robot Helper
A small robot named Libro moves around the library. If you can’t find a book, just ask Libro. It will lead you to the right shelf and even suggest similar books. “Libro is like a walking librarian,” said a student.
Digital Bookshelves
Screens on the walls show “digital bookshelves”. Click a book cover to read its short introduction or watch a video. This helps students choose books faster.
Reading Data Analysis (数据分析)
The library system records popular books and suggests new ones based on students’ interests. For example, if some students borrow science fiction stories often, it might recommend a new space story.
Ms. Liu, the head librarian, said, “Technology isn’t taking the place of books; it’s helping students fall in love with reading in new ways!”
1.When did our school open a smart library?
2.How many ways can students borrow books in the smart library?

Duogai is a remote village lying on a mountain in Yushu City, Qinghai. The village had a school. The headmaster built it to provide education for children on the mountain.
However, the biggest challenge for the headmaster was the lack (缺乏) of teachers. Several teachers started to work at the school, but left because of its poor conditions. However, since China Unicom set up a 4G base station in Duogai and brought digital classrooms to the school in 2017, everything has changed. The Internet reached Duogai!
This has made a huge difference. Now there are more volunteer teachers in the village. Through the Internet, the teachers in Duogai can achieve large amounts of educational content (内容). They can download materials from the Internet and use them for teaching. The learning experience for students has become much more enjoyable, as it has changed from reading textbooks to multimedia learning.
Ma Yueying is a volunteer teacher at the school. She said, “In the past, coming here meant disconnecting from society and family. Now the situation is different. I can contact my family anytime. More importantly, the way of teaching has changed. In the past, teachers had to carry teaching materials and record videos in advance. Now we can prepare courses online and make changes anytime.”

With the development of the Internet, online learning has been an important way for us.
能力综合实践3篇
第一节
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
September 1st is the perfect day to pick up a pen and paper and write a letter to someone because it’s World Letter Writing Day. The holiday is created to keep the art of letter writing alive in the digital (数字) age.
For a long time, letter writing was the primary means (方法) of long-distance (长距离) communication. However, the appearance of modern means of communication has made letter writing a less popular activity. Few people would like to take the time to sit down and write a letter.
Even though the new technologies have provided us with much faster ways to communicate, letter writing is still important for a number of reasons. Writing a letter to someone shows that you really care about them, because you took the time and effort to do something people seldom do these days. Handwriting is also an important skill you shouldn’t lose, because writing by hand trains your brain in a different way than typing (打字) and improves your language processing and reading skills.
Another reason is that writing a letter forces you to really think about what you are writing. Far too often, we hurriedly send texts and emails without really thinking about the influence our words have on the receiver. With a handwritten letter, you are forced to be more careful with the words you choose.
So, how do we celebrate this day? The best way is to write a letter to someone. It could be a friend or relative who lives miles away, or someone you have lost touch with over time. Of course, you can also learn the correct method of writing a handwritten letter, or just read some famous letters. Whatever you do, please know that letter writing is still worthwhile (值得的).
1.Why was World Letter Day created?
2.What has made letter writing a less popular activity?
3.How many reasons are listed to show the importance of letter writing?
4.What’s the best way to celebrate this day?
5.Who will you write a letter to on World Letter Writing Day? Why?
第二节
根据要求完成短文写作。
6.假如你是李华,你们学校为了庆祝World Letter Writing Day,希望同学们能跟美国姊妹学校的同学们互相写信和回信。你收到了Alice的一封信,请你根据来信的节选内容给Alice回信。

Have you ever wondered what your pet is thinking or how he or she feels? Do you sometimes wish that your pet could talk to you with words?
In Professor Karen Bakker’s new book, The Sounds of Life: How Digital Technology Is Bringing Us Closer to the Worlds of Animals and Plants, she talks about how AI is helping us to make an animal version of Google Translate.
All around the animal kingdom, there arc sounds that we can hardly pick up and understand. Elephants, for example, communicate with each other using infrasound—a sound frequency far below our human hearing range. Coral in the ocean also sends sound waves to attract baby coral to safer areas to grow. This is a shocking fact as coral doesn’t have ears! Scientists have placed listening equipment into these environments to pick up the sounds that humans are normally unable to hear.
After the sounds are recorded, AI then can study their meaning, according to the news website Vox. For example, Israeli researchers used AI to translate bats’ 15,000 calls. They found that more than 60 percent were arguments about three things: food, sleep positions, invasion(侵略) of personal space.
This technology can not only understand the animals but communicate back to them. For example, bees use dances to communicate. A research team in Germany, therefore, put the bee language AI system into a robot bee. They asked the robot to create a dance routine that could tell the bees which direction to move, Vox reported.
This new technology now allows humans to socialize with different animals throughout the animal kingdom.
1.What is Karen Bakker?
2.How does coral help baby coral find a safer area?
3.What is the purpose of recording the sounds of animals?
4.Where was the robot bee created?
5.How do you understand the last sentence?

Losing Our Language?
The Internet is a place where we can talk freely. But it is also a place where we pay little attention to whether or not our language competence (能力) is becoming poorer.
According to a recent survey by China Youth Daily, more than 76 percent of young people in China said they felt their Chinese language skills have declined (下降).
They don’t use complex rhetorical technique (修辞手法) as often as before anymore. It is believed that digital (数字的) technology and Internet memes (表情包) have changed their communication habits.
For example, direct expression is the preferred way to communicate online. When one sees something funny, one will simply type “hahaha” or use the “cry-laugh” emoji.
Also, “copy” culture is getting popular. People simply pick up expressions from the Internet without much thought. Many begin to use a fixed set of sentence patterns, such as “whenever you disagree with each other”.
Cai Xiaojia, a teacher from Fuzhou, told China Youth Daily that words in general are being used less. For instance, people can share photos online with little need for words to describe them.
1.What can we do on the Internet according to the passage?
2.How many young people in China felt their Chinese language skills have declined?
3.What have changed their communication habits?
4.Where can people simply pick up expressions?
5.What is Cai Xiaojia’s job?

An Unforgettable Experience Online
The Internet has changed the world. It plays an important role in our daily life. In my opinion, it is necessary for teenagers to keep safe online. If we don’t pay attention to the safety online, we will get into trouble.
When I was in Grade Two, I lost myself in playing computer games. I was very glad to play with strangers online no matter who they were. And I made friends with some of them. As a result, I didn’t talk to my friends in real life anymore. Once a “friend” I made online wanted to borrow money from me. Luckily, my parents found out in time. They were very angry with me. I learned that I should never trust any strangers online.
The Internet can be both helpful and harmful. So everybody should make good use of it.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. In the past 100 years, many inventions have appeared and changed everything. Especially with the popularity of computers and smart phones, our life has been greatly influenced.
For me, computers and smart phones have made my study more convenient. I can search for information, do online courses, and communicate with teachers and classmates easily. They have also changed the way I make friends. I can connect with people from all over the world through social media.
Before using a smart phone, I used to spend more time reading books and playing outdoors. Now, I spend more time on the phone, which has reduced my outdoor activities and reading time. However, it has also made it easier for me to stay in touch with my friends and family.
In my opinion, middle school students should use smart phones properly. We should use them to help us study and communicate, but not to play games or waste time. We should also control the time we spend on the phone to protect our eyesight and health.
Thanks for your attention!

Why should we learn Chinese well
Chinese is our mother tongue. As we all know, Chinese is becoming more and more useful and popular all over the world. Therefore, it’s important for us to learn Chinese well.

Last but not least, I think we should learn Chinese by listening to Chinese poems and watching movies about Chinese culture.
