Childhood is a time of limitless possibilities. And old age is the time of wisdom. But for children who face the monster(恶魔)of cancer, their lives are fast- forwarded into profound wisdom. Not only do they have hand-to-hand struggle with the limits of life, they face it with raw truth1 and courage. For them, life is hard- won yet full of unbelievable hope, and is to be lived to the fullest.
We have much to learn from these children.
That’s what art therapist(治疗专家), Lisa Murray, believed as she worked to help children with cancer to release their feelings through their drawings, which have turned into a book, Angels & Monsters.
Murray found that in their struggle, kids would tell her constantly, “I’m just a regular kid; I just want to play, to go to school, to go outside. . . I just happen to have cancer. ”
She was moved and inspired by their simple will to survive. The children were facing the disease head on. She saw some powerful images in their artwork. “What courage it takes to do that, ” said Murray.
Murray selected 25 children aged 13 months to 18 years. She asked the four- year-olds and up, “If you could tell the world what it is like to have cancer, what would you say, what would you draw?” For two- to three-year-olds, she asked, “What do you want to tell people about yourself?” And for the youngest, she just took their handprints. “It’s such a human expression, ‘Here’s my mark, ‘” said Murray.
She then asked them about their pictures, and wrote down exactly what they said. This gave the artwork a powerful voice. Coupled with Murray’s photographs of the children in the book, the three forms of expression leave both a permanent record and lasting impression with the viewer.
As a therapist, Murray doesn’t give the kids the impression that the drawing process is right or wrong. Whatever they draw is unconditionally acceptable. “Children play, they draw, and that’s the natural language of children. That’s why art therapy is so wonderful, ”she said.
4. Why does Murray ask children with cancer to draw pictures?

At first glance, the relationship between robots and environmental sustainability may not be obvious. The present situation is that the generation of electricity largely relies on unsustainable energy sources and that manufacturing sensors and electronic boards requires the extraction of rare earth materials. Nevertheless, robots also have the potential to help contribute to sustainability goals. Current research on this topic follows two main paths: creating robots that facilitate a more sustainable use of resources and creating robots that are themselves more sustainable.
There is reason to hope that robots can help us use resources more efficiently, particularly by addressing labor shortages and skill gaps in certain critical fields. Drones, for instance, can be used to scan a site after destruction to identify waste and reusable materials and sort out debris (碎片). Robots may also ease the automatization of battery recycling, which requires operation of dangerous components.
Another path roboticists are pursuing is to reconsider the design of traditional metal-based, electricity-hungry robots. Biodegradable sensors or robots made of edible (可食用的) materials are potentially interesting solutions to robotic waste. Additionally, ensuring that the same robot can be used for decades is another way to achieve more sustainable consumption and production of robotics. This requires robots to be easily repurposed.
As robots are used outdoors, they will unavoidably sustain damage. Robots that can self-heal or recover function, even with a broken limb, will stand better chances. Both hardware and software will likewise need to be transferable and reusable to reduce disuse and enable the integration of new sensing technologies.
Despite tremendous innovation in sustainable robotic designs, it may take more time than we have for the prototypes (原型) discussed above to become commercially available products. A major challenge is weighing their “grey energy” (the energy to build robots) against environmental benefits. For example, using robots to install solar panels shouldn’t require more resources than the energy savings the panels ultimately provide. As AI integration accelerates, finding the right balance between technology progress and environmental responsibility remains urgent but achievable.
8. What do we know about the current production of robots?
A. It makes use of recyclable components.
B. It aims to use renewable energy and reduce costs.
C. It relies on non-renewable resources and rare materials.
D. It focuses on resource-efficient and self-sustainable robots.
9. Why is battery recycling mentioned?
A. To criticize traditional recycling methods.
B. To compare robots’ efficiency with human labor.
C. To highlight the complexity of recycling process.
D. To emphasize robots' ability to handle risky tasks.
10. What strategy is proposed according to Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4?
A. Adopting sustainable materials. B. Expanding metal-based designs.
C. Promoting disposable components. D. Avoiding damage to robots outdoors.
11. What does the author think of robots’ environmental potential?
A. Limited by costs. B. Dependent on policies.
C. Unclear in direction. D. Promising despite challenges.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. D

In today’s interconnected world, cross-cultural communication has emerged as a vital skill for fostering international cooperation and social harmony. Britain, with its centuries-old history of absorbing diverse influences and its current multicultural landscape, serves as an ideal example of how tradition and modernity can coexist to bridge cultural gaps.
The roots of British cultural adaptability trace back to ancient times. When the Romans invaded Britain in 55 BC, they not only established management systems but also constructed public facilities such as roads and Hadrian’s Wall — a massive defensive structure marking the northern border of their empire. These innovations not only managed conflicts with Celtic tribe’s but also laid the foundation for future cultural exchanges. Today, this legacy of blending old and new remains evident. For instance, the British Parliament maintains strict dress codes requiring formal suits and robes (长袍) during sessions, symbolizing respect for tradition. Meanwhile, modern Britain embraced literary festivals and experimental theater productions, reflecting its dynamic engagement with contemporary artistic expression.
However, navigating cultural differences remains challenging. In international business settings, British professionals often prioritize building trust through indirect communication and tea-break small talk, while their American counterparts favor straightforward discussions to get straight to the point. Research by the London Business School (2022) reveals that 68 % of cross-Atlantic negotiations face delays due to these contrasting styles. Americans may interpret British politeness as indecision, whereas Britons perceive American directness as impersonal and overly focused only on business deals.
Language differences further test cultural sensitivity. A simple phrase like “I’ll consider it” in British English often means a polite refusal, whereas Americans might take it literally as openness to further discussion. Even gestures differ: maintaining eye contact is seen as confident in the U. S. But may be viewed as aggressive in some British contexts.
To address these challenges, educational institutions play a key role. Universities like Oxford and Cambridge now offer courses such as “Global Communication Strategies,” where students role-play negotiation scene’s and analyze case studies of multinational corporations. Such training emphasized empathy, active listening, and adapting communication styles to diverse audiences. As globalization continued to erase borders, mastering these skills becomes not just beneficial but essential for building a more inclusive world.
12. What can be known about the purpose of the Romans building Hadrian’s Wall?
A. To establish trade routed with Celtic tribes. B. To mark the southern border of the Roman Empire.
C. To showcase advanced architectural skills. D. To manage conflicts and control territory.
13. What can be inferred about British and American negotiation style from Paragraph 3?
A. Their differences may lead to misunderstandings. B. They both value long-term relationships equally.
C. Americans prefer indirect communication. D. British negotiators focus on short-term gains.
14. What does the word “impersonal” mean in the context of American negotiators?
A. Friendly and emotional. B. Aggressive and rude.
C. Emotionally distant and formal. D. Humorous and casual.
15. What might the author discuss next regarding cross-cultural communication training?
A. The history of Roman education systems. B. Specific methods used in university coursed.
C. How technology replaces traditional teaching. D. Economic costs of cultural misunderstandings.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B

(大学课程中使用的具体方法) ”符合题意。故选B。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Appreciating poetry begins with welcoming its unique rhythm and language. Start by reading the poem aloud, allowing its rhythm to reach you emotionally. Poetry is meant to be heard and reciting it can reveal hidden patterns or emotions that silent reading might miss. ____16____ Does the poem speed up or slow down? These shifts often mirror its themes.
Notice the structure. Poems aren’t just words on a page. Their form, including rhyme schemes, stanza breaks, and line lengths, contributes to meaning. A tightly structured poem might evoke (唤起) order, while broken lines could reflect chaos. Don’t overlook punctuation (标点) or capitalization. ____17____
Engage yourself in imagery and metaphor. Poets paint pictures with words, so visualize the scenes they describe. Ask: What senses are engaged? A poem about rain might feel cold and damp. Figurative language like similes and metaphors invites you to explore deeper connections between seemingly unrelated ideas.
Consider the poet’s perspective. Who is speaking? Is it the poet’s voice, a character, or an abstract being? Understanding the “speaker” can clarify the poem’s intention. ____18____ Historical events, personal experiences, or cultural symbols may influence its meaning.
____19____ Poetry grows on emotion, and there’s no “correct” interpretation. Your response — whether joy, sorrow, or curiosity — is acceptable. Revisit the poem: meanings often change with each reading. Take down questions it raises, and research unfamiliar references if they interest you.
In short, appreciating poetry is an adventure of discovery. Slow down, listen, and trust your feelings. ____20____ Rather, it’s about appreciating the interplay of sound, image, and idea that makes poetry timeless.
A. Let yourself feel.
B. Context matters as well.
C. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
D. These shape how you stop and interpret.
E. Pay attention to how words flow together.
F. The poem’s background determines the style.
G. This is not like unlocking a “secret password”.

A couple of years back, when I was still a teenager, I was troubled by frequent headaches that felt like I wanted to bang my head against a hard surface. I was eager to find a way to stop them. If you’ve been through this, I can feel your silent nod; for those who haven’t, let me tell you, it’s truly painful.
I had exhausted all possibilities. Sadly, none provided a lasting relief for my tormenting pain. In my desperation, my dad suggested I try acupuncture (针灸), something he once underwent in Hong Kong. It had relieved his backache when nothing else worked.
I was unfamiliar with acupuncture and hadn’t tried out traditional Chinese medicine before. With my heart set on previous failures I embarked on this acupuncture journey, ending up in a middle-aged lady’s clinic filled with Chinese herbs.
Once I settled on the patient's chair, she inquired about my reason for visiting. After that, she placed three fingers on my wrist and silently checked my pulse. She then led me to a room and instructed me to lie down. Moments later, she took out needles, which made me anxious because I'm not comfortable with sharp objects.
The initial acupuncture session was a real surprise. To treat my headaches, the needles were first placed on the back of my hand, far from my head. The sensation was unexpected too: as the practitioner gently tapped and turned the needle in, I didn’t feel the needle but a wave spreading through my body. She then continued with more needles all over: my head, face, stomach, legs, arms, and even toes. The entire session lasted just 20 minutes. Following that, she prescribed some herbal tea for me to drink daily for five days.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

Paragraph 2: Over time, I noticed a big difference in my headaches.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】As I started acupuncture treatments, I was a bit nervous. Every time I lay on that chair, I couldn't help but tense up, imagining the discomfort. But as the sessions went on, I gradually relaxed. The middle-aged lady was always gentle and reassuring. She would explain each step and tell me about the benefits. With her kind words and professional manner, I began to have faith in the treatment.
Over time, I noticed a big difference in my headaches. They became less frequent and the intensity reduced. I no longer felt that urge to bang my head. The herbal tea she prescribed also seemed to have a positive effect. I felt more energetic and my overall well-being improved. I was grateful to my dad for suggesting acupuncture and to the lady for her expertise. It was a wonderful experience that changed my perspective on traditional Chinese medicine. I realized that sometimes, ancient wisdom holds solutions that modern medicine might overlook.

A. To help them to gain wisdom.
B. To help them deal with cancer.
C. To turn the pictures into a book.
D. To let people know more about them.
5. What are “the three forms of expression” about the children?
A. Their drawings, their voices and the book.
B. Their drawings, their handprints and the book.
C. Their drawings, their words and the photos of them.
D. Their drawings, Murray’s questions and the children’s answers.
6. What does Murray do in the process of the children drawing pictures?
A. She lets them draw whatever they like.
B. She teaches them how to draw naturally.
C. She gives them advice about what to draw.
D. She makes sure what they draw are acceptable.
7. What are children with cancer like in the eyes of Murray?
A. They are energetic and active.
B. They are wise and hardworking.
C. They are courageous and optimistic.
D. They are thoughtful and kind-hearted.

With my heart set on previous failures, I embarked on this acupuncture journey, ending up in a middle-aged lady’s clinic filled with Chinese herbs.
