Lesson 9: China’s Most Famous “Farmer”

Step 1: Warm-up

Step 2: Pre-reading
- Teach new words: "hybrid rice", "succeed in", "be known as" with simple explanations and examples.

Step 3: While-reading
- Fast reading:
Ask students to read the passage quickly and find the main idea.
- Careful reading:
Divide the passage into parts (childhood dream, research process, achievements, hobbies) and ask students to read each part carefully. Then ask detail questions:
What was Yuan Longping's dream when he was a child?
When did he succeed in developing hybrid rice?
What are his hobbies?
Step 4: Post-reading
- Group discussion: Let students discuss in groups:
