For the girls at Sanhe Town Primary School in Chongqing, China, football is much more than a hobby.
The school sits deep in the mountains in Chongqing. Most of the students are left-behind children In the past, there was a shortage of teachers at the school, so it was hard for the students there to learn better than those living in cities.
Their life-changing journeys started in 2013. At that time, Sun Xiaoming, the head teacher of the school, decided to set up a girls’ football team. He believed it could be a chance for the students to receive a better education (教育) and live different lives.
For Sun, the greatest difficulty was getting the students’ parents to accept his idea. To do it, Sun sent a girl to another primary school for football training. Months later, the girl received a scholarship (奖学金) to study at Chongqing No. 37 Secondary School. Her experience brought hope to other girls at the school and their parents.
Later, the school set up a girls’ football team and there were 20 girls in it. The conditions at that time were really hard, but the girls all valued the chance to practise.
Years of hard work finally paid off. Over the past few years, many girls have got into good schools because of their football abilities (能力). Today, the school has developed a football culture, and each grade from two to six has its football team. Many students are proud of taking part in the sport.

② The day begins with a school meeting, where we learn about the history and importance of the School Labor Day. We also listen to speakers who share their experiences about community service and the importance of giving back.
③ After the meeting, teachers divide (划分) students into groups and we head out into the community to do different work. Some groups work on cleaning up playgrounds, while others visit the elderly people. On the day, we work hard to make a difference to our community. But it’s not all work and no play. We also have fun together, the same as what we do in our school.

Over the break time between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often rushed to the toilet and back to class with no time for anything else, but now that has changed. “I can have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates,” said the 14-year-old.
Starting this term, students at primary and middle schools in Beijing have longer breaks between classes, changing from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. The change is to encourage students to spend time outdoors for their physical and mental (心理的) health.
To allow children to enjoy break-time activities, some schools have mixed break time with labor education (劳动教育) by opening areas for planting and feeding animals.
“We have welcomed new friends to our school—some ducks and rabbits!” said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing 101 Middle School. “There are fewer students sitting at their desks. Some play with these cute animals, while others exercise on the playground. We get closer to nature, which is quite new and relaxing.”
Some schools have opened up activity areas both indoors and outdoors. At Chaoyang Middle School, the ground floor of the teaching building has opened a biology lab for students to study the life of animals and plants. The second-floor hallway is designed with spaces for free reading and chess games.
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. P.E teachers from the school keep an eye on students playing on the ground. “Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we remind the students to do more upper body exercises to avoid running and falling down,” said one PE teacher.

B.He had much time to do his homework.
C.He was always in a hurry during breaks.
D.He could share fun things with classmates.
2.Why do the schools in Beijing change the break into 15 minutes?
A.To encourage students to spend time outdoors.
B.To make students stay longer in the classroom.
C.To let students have more time to do homework.
D.To make sure that everyone in the school is safe.
3.In which part of a student newspaper can you probably read this passage?
A.Science Hall. B.Wonderful World. C.School News. D.Story Time.

“You’re going to do WHAT?” I asked my best friend, Julie, in alarm.
“I’m going to try out for the cheer-leading squad,” she said, eyes fixed on the ground. We had been best friends since second grade and we did everything together.
We had made many plans about what we would do this year, but now she was going off on her own. I was sure that if she joined the cheer-leading squad, she would become best friends with someone else and I couldn’t stand that.
“Why are you doing this? Do you really want to hang around with those girls instead of me?” I cried, my voice filled with anger. “It’s not about the girls,” Julie said. “It’s about the sport. I want to be on the squad at the high school level because they win scholarships (奖学金) at state competitions, and I have a better chance if I’m on the squad here,” she explained.“Besides,” she added, “it’s not like I’m leaving the city or something.”
“Goodbye,” I headed off, leaving Julie standing with a sad look on her face.
The rest of that week I was unhappy, and I avoided Julie in the hall. I planned to watch the first game and take no notice of Julie.
Instead, I was amazed by high spirits and skill of Julie’s cheering.
Although the youngest member of the team, Julie warmly led cheer after cheer. I saw how her face lit up with joy. I was shocked as I realized that she loved the sport. Trying out for the team had nothing to do with me. Maybe it was just something she wanted to do.
I went close to her shyly, but Julie smiled immediately. “Hey, you’re really great,” I began, then added quickly. “I’m so sorry I’ve been rude to you about your joining the squad.”
Julie smiled and replied,“A group of us are going for ice cream why don’t you come along?”
________, I felt so ashamed but smiled in return. As I walked toward the cheer leaders, I realized there was room in Julie’s life for all of us. We could save the competition for the game.

At Chaoyang Middle School, the ground floor of the teaching building has opened a biology lab for students to study the life of animals and plants. The second-floor hallway is designed with spaces for free reading and chess games.
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important.

根据 “I want to be on the squad at the high school level because they win scholarships (奖学金) at state competitions”可知,茱莉亚加入啦啦队是因为她想要赢得奖学金。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“Julie smiled and replied”和“A group of us are going for ice cream why don’t you come along?” 故选A。
根据“I cried, my voice filled with anger.”可知,该处情绪对应Angry;根据 “I was shocked as I realized that she loved the sport.”
