Born
in
1800,
Barry,
a
dog,
saved
more
than
40
people
lost
in
the
snowy
Swiss
Alps.
According
to
a
story,
he
once
found
a
boy
at
the
edge
of
an
icy
cliff(悬崖)
that
no
human
could
reach.
Barry
carefuly
woke
the
child
by
touching
his
face.
Then
the
boy
threw
his
arms
around
Barrys
neck,
and
the
big
dog
carried
him
to
safety.
Today,
dogs
are
stil
kept

the

where
Barry
worked.
And
at

one

When
Meriwether
Lewis
and
Wiliam
Clark
set
out
to
explore
the
American
West
in
1804,
they
brought
along
Lewiss
dog,
Seaman.
One
night,
a
big
buffalo(野 牛)
broke
into
the
campground.
As
the
scary
animal
ran
to
the
tent
where
the
explorers
were
sleeping,
Seaman
threw
himself
into
the
buffalos
path
and
drove
it
away.
Forever
thankful,
Lewis
named
a
river
in
Montana
“Seamans
Creek”
in
honour
of
his
brave
dog.
Did
a

burn
Newtons

In
the
1680s,
scientist
Isaac
Newton
was
hard
at
work
on
a

that
would

explain

Then,
the
disaster
struck!
One
day
when
he

a
fire
started
in
his
study
and
burnt
his
papers.
Newton
was
so
upset
that
it
was
over
a
year
before
he
could
bring
himself
to
write
out
the
work
again.
What
caused
the
fire?
No
one
knows.
Many
years
after
Newtons
death,
a
book
about
Newtons
life
said
that
the
fire
started
when
Newtons
pet
dog
turned
over
a
candle.
But
Newton
never
mentioned
having
a
dog,

英国的雨林在哪里?
What
do
you
imagine
when
you
hear
the
word
“rainforest”?
Mile
after
mile
of
towering
trees
in
a
faraway
country?
Hot
weather,
heavy
rain
and
the
kind
of
unbelievable
wildlife
that
youd
never
get
to
see
in
the
UK?
Maybe
even
news
reports
on
stopping
people
from
cutting
down
the
forests?
You
might
be
surprised
to
hear,
then,
that
the
UK
is
home
to
a
lot
of
its
very
own
kind
of
rainforest.
1.
Temperate
rainforests
are
areas
of
very
damp
woodland
in
temperate
areas.
Temperate
areas
are
places
with
warm
temperatures.
The
UK
is
a
good
example
of
a
temperate
area:
the
weather
isnt
too
cold
or
hot—even
though
it
might
feel
that
way
at
times.
2.
There
are
plenty
of
animals,
butterflies
and
trees.
The
forests
are
so
wet
that
youl
even
find
different
living
things.
They
grow
on
top
of
other
living
things
growing
out
of
tree
trunks
(树干)
and
branches.
3.
Tropical
rainforests
are
close
to
the
equator(赤道),
where
the
weather
is
warm
al
year
round.
The
Amazon
is
perhaps
the
most
famous
example
of
a
tropical
rainforest.
Its
the
largest
rainforest
in
the
world.
And
nearly
60%
of
it
is
in
Brazil.
However,
temperate
rainforests
are
fewer
than
tropical
ones.
They
cover
just
1%
of
the
worlds
surface.
Besides
the
UK,
you
can
find
temperate
rainforests
in
countries
including
Japan,
Chile
and
New
Zealand.
Smal
temperate
rainforests
can
be
found
al
along
the
west
coast
of
England,
Scotland
and
Wales.
Here,
heavy
rainfal
and
high
humidity
create
good
conditions
for
them
to
grow.
4.
So
you
wont
find
temperate
rainforests
there.
Once
upon
a
time,
there
would
have
been
far
more
of
these
leafy
wood-
lands
in
the
country.
But
over
the
years,
the
trees
have
been
cut
down
for
wood
and
the
land
has
been
used
for
other
things,
such
as
farming.
Despite(尽管)
that,
you
can
stil
visit
rainforests
in
places
like
Ausewel
Wood
in
Devon,
England,
and
Crinan
Wood
in
Argyl,
Scotland.
The
Wildlife
Trusts
(a
group
of
46
independent
wildlife
protection
charities)
announced
a
38-milion-pound
project
to
bring
rainforests
back
to
the
UK
in
February
2023.
5.
In
January
2024,
the
National
Trust
announced
that
it
would
plant
more
than
100,000
trees
in
North
Devon
to
try
to
create
new
temperate
rainforests.
They
are
special
places.

of
Britains
new

rainforests
