In today’s world, teamwork is an essential (必备的) skill that helps us achieve our goals. Whether in school, sports or future workplaces, working well with others can make a significant difference. But what is teamwork?
Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a same goal. It includes communicating, sharing and respecting each other’s ideas. When we work together, we can combine our advantages and skills to solve problems.
For example, in a school project, each team member may have different abilities. One student may be good at writing while another student may be good at research. By sharing tasks based on advantages of everyone, the team gets higher quality results. In this way, teamwork improves not only grades but also the learning experience.
In sports, teamwork is key for success. A soccer team needs players to pass the ball, defend and score together. If they don’t work together, the team will lose. The members learn to trust and support each other, which helps them build strong relationships on the field.
In addition, teamwork can create a sense of belonging. When we work with others, we feel connected and valued. This connection can encourage us to do more. It also teaches us important life skills, like solving problems and resolving difficulties.
In summary, teamwork is very important for success in many areas of life. By learning to work together, we can not only achieve our goals but also build meaningful relationships and important skills that will help us in the future. Teamwork can lead us to great achievements!

Without doubt, people often watch films to relax themselves. Films have always been one of the most popular kinds of entertainment (娱乐) for them. However, it should be mentioned that cinema attendances (观众人数) have reduced (下降) greatly.
Cinemas attract (吸引) many more people when new hits are on. Film producers understand they always have to create something new and exciting to have more attendance. And nowadays because of modern technologies, it is really fun to watch films with 3D glasses. You can get the real picture of the film and experience special effects (效果) as if you were a hero of the film. You can feel the water splashing into (溅入) your eyes or some scary monsters (怪物) ready to attack you.
Many people prefer watching films at the cinema. They believe that cinemas offer a better environment for enjoying films. But to my mind, people watching films at home feel a bit more comfortable and freer than those choosing cinemas. Also, they needn’t rush to buy the tickets in order to have better seats.
However, cinema lovers have opposite ideas. They consider that cinemas provide the best conditions for watching films: perfect sound and visual (视觉的) quality on a big screen and... popcorn! I must say I also have a great chance to enjoy films with a big home theatre system. And I can stop to get a drink and popcorn from the kitchen.
In my opinion, watching a film at home is much better for many reasons. But anyway, I think that there should be cinemas too: it is a good chance to hang out with your friends.
9. What do people think of watching films?
A. Boring. B. Relaxing. C. Amazing. D. Tiring.
10. How can cinemas have more attendance?
A. By showing real monsters. B. By handing out 3D glasses.
C. By offering some new hits. D. By reducing the prices of tickets.
11. Which writing skill is used in Paragraphs 3 & 4?
A. Telling a story. B. Giving an example.
C. Raising a question. D. Making a comparison.
12. The writer thinks ________ according to the text.
A. cinemas are still necessary now B. few people choose cinemas today
C. watching films at home is less relaxing D. the environment in cinemas is better

While astronauts are flying high to study space, scientists are digging deep to study the center of Earth!
Earlier in May 2023, China started drilling (钻) its first over 10,000-meter-deep borehole (钻井) in Xinjiang. By Oct. 1, the hole was already 7,856 meters deep. The borehole has a planned depth of 11,100 meters. It will take 457 days to dig. When it’s finished, it will become the deepest hole ever dug in China and one of the deepest in the world.
Earth has lots of heat inside. So as the drill goes deeper, it faces hotter and hotter temperatures. The metal drill could get so hot that it would become as soggy as noodles. The company doing the project (项目) dealt with this problem by using high-tech tools.
According to Xinhua News, the hole will give us useful information about Earth’s internal structure Also, the hole is being dug in an area rich in oil. It’s important to look deep into Earth because it could help in finding energy resources Besides, it could help scientists study the risks of natural disasters like earthquakes.

Many adults sit down for more than nine hours a day—maybe you’re one of them! These days, we have ___31___ more sedentary (久坐的) lifestyle than our parents did. But do you know ___32___ it is doing to our bodies?
Years ago, a study ___33___ (show) that drivers were more likely to have heart problems than the more active conductors (售票员). If you sit down all day, you ___34___ (burn) fewer calories (卡路里) than someone with a more active job. So ___35___ (sit) too much slows your metabolism (新陈代谢) and makes it harder for your body to keep blood sugar at a good level (水平).
One possible answer ___36___ this problem is for desk workers to use standing desks so that they can spend at least part of a day on their feet. One small study proved (证明) that office workers who stood for three hours after lunch had a much ___37___ (small) increase in blood sugar levels. Another suggested that by standing for three or four hours every day all year round, people would ___38___ (easy) burn the same number of calories as running ten marathons (马拉松).
However, other experts point out that standing all day can also have negative (消极的) influences, such as leg or back pain. They advise people ___39___ (increase) the time that they spend on their feet little by little if they do want to use standing desks. They also point out that there are many other ____40____ (method) to solve this problem, for example, walking burns far more calories than standing.
31. a 32. what
33. showed 34. burn
35. sitting
36. to 37. smaller
38. easily 39. to increase
40. methods
故填a。
故填what。
本句“If you sit down all day, you … fewer calories...”
故填to。
advise sb. to do sth.“建议某人做某事”,固定搭配,因此这里应用动词不定式to increase。故填to increase。

More and more people are called “tree huggers”. They don’t really hug trees. In fact, they are the people who do something important to keep Earth safe. You can help keep Earth safe, too.

Let’s look at three ways to help Earth. They can make a big difference to the world.
Recycle (回收)
Make your own drum with an empty coffee can. Turn your pencils into drumsticks, and then play your music! Isn’t it creative?
Reuse
You can turn long trousers into shorts, just cut the legs. Or you can change long dresses into short ones. You can also give away the clothes that you no longer wear to people in need.
Cut down on how much of Earth you use. Walk instead of going in a car. And ride your bike when you can, too. Remember to turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth. Taking short showers is also a good way.
When you recycle, reduce or reuse, you are helping to keep Earth green. Let’s be a green team!

5. How does teamwork improve the quality of a school project?
A. Everyone works on the same task. B. Team members can focus on their advantages.
C. It reduces the work. D. It makes the project more fun.
6. What lesson do members learn through teamwork in sports?
A. Winning is the only thing that matters.
B. Their skills are more important than teamwork.
C Trust and support are important for success.
D. Teamwork is not necessary in sports.
7. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Sharing tasks based on advantages of everyone.
B. Working on a school project.
C. Working with others.
D. Achieving goals by themselves.
8. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Teamwork is important for achieving success.
B. Sports are more important than learning.
C. Doing things alone is better than group work.
D. Communication is the key to success.

D
Could they drill all the way through? While some people joke about digging from China to Australia on the other side of the world, we know this is not possible. But the project marks a great achievement in China’s deep-Earth exploration (探索).
13. What do we know about the borehole in Xinjiang in Paragraph 2?
A. It is the deepest hole in the world. B. It has a planned depth of 10,000 meters.
C. It has been 785 meters deep so far. D. It is expected to be finished in 2024.
14. Which word is closest in the meaning to the underlined word “soggy”?
A. Soft. B. Hard. C. Tasty. D. Long.
15. How many benefits (好处) are mentioned about the project?
A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5.
16. What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph?
A. It is impossible to finish this great project.
B. China will drill from Xinjiang to Australia.
C. The writer takes pride in the high-tech project.
D. Chinese people have explored the center of Earth.
