Hello, everyone! I’m Li Hua. I’m thrilled to share our City Walk. The walk kicked off at the city library,
where we briefly shared favorite English books. We then strolled through the old town, admiring traditional
architecture and listening to the guide’s stories about the city’s past. Eventually, we walked to the riverside park,
enjoying the beautiful scenery.
The activity was a huge success. Many members noted that it not only let us rediscover the city’s charm but

Lily had a simple idea and told Alex and Tom. “Let’s create a ‘rubbish treasure hunt’. By finding interesting
items, we can teach the kids how cleaning safeguards their play space. After all, fun-filled activities outshine
tedious lectures as teachers,” she reasoned, her tone firm yet laced with kindness. Alex and Tom readily concurred.
With playful shouts, they announced, “Who’ll unearth the most astonishing trash? Let the hunt commence!”
The kids soon noticed what the volunteers were doing. Eager to join, they abandoned their soccer ball. “We
want to hunt too!” they pleaded shyly. “Fantastic!” Lily exclaimed, distributing a grabber to each child. As the
hunt unfolded, Alex remarked, “A clean park ensures fresh air and secure play.” Driven by the challenge, the
children uncovered old toys and candy wrappers, absorbing environmental lessons along the way. When the hunt
drew to a close, the park shone cleaner, and the kids realized that caring for the environment could be a thrilling
quest—an outcome proving that a dash of innovation can transform indifference into a sense of responsibility.

根据第三段“My preferred adaptation explored in this book is that of clothing companies who
advertise by using photos in which models are seated so that wheelchair users can picture how it will look on their
bodies.”
根据最后一段中的句子“This book will guide not only ... showing that anything is possible
with a sense of humor and determination.”

“recover old terms from ancient songs and texts”的直接原因是
“countless words have faded...which is a sorrowful loss of cultural heritage”。
D

a gardening method that uses native plants to better our local ecosystems.”
根据文章第三段 Mark 解释的话语 “...you don’t have to water them, fertilize them or use
pesticides.”
Chewing insects serve as prey for other members of the ecosystem, such as birds, and in many
species, those that survive the larval stage develop into pollinators that we like to see. As pollinators continue
losing habitat......, as they’re responsible for one-third of our food supply.”

Text 1
W: Have you noticed how quiet the new girl Lily is when we’re eating lunch?
M: Yes, she’s shy in class as well. (1) We should help her feel more comfortable.
W: We could ask her opinion on things. It might make her feel part of the group.
Text 2
M: I always feel better when the sun’s out. It seems to lift my mood.
W: So do I, even if nothing else has really changed. It just makes everything seem more positive.
M: Rainy days are just so depressing in comparison. We need the extra light. (2)
Text 3
W: Wow, she’s amazing. I’ll never be as good as her.
M: Hey, life isn’t a competitive sport. She’s probably been practicing for years, while you couldn’t even read
music up until a couple of years ago. (3) Don’t compare your life’s chapter 5 to someone else’s chapter 20.
Text 4
M: Look, that sheep is stuck in the fence. It can’t get free.
W: Poor thing. It looks frightened. How can we help it?
M: We should approach it slowly so we don’t scare it. Maybe if one of us holds the fence open, the other can
guide it out. (4)
Text 5
W: Have you noticed how much time Ben spends on the computer?
M: Yes, he’s always staring at the screen.
W: Maybe we should suggest he take more breaks. We could invite him to play outside with us or do
activities without screens, like reading or drawing. (5)
Text 6
M: I’m amazed by the landscape here in China. (6) It’s different from back home in England.
W: What do you find most different, (6) David? (6) (7)
M: In England, we have hills, but nothing like the tall peaks I’ve seen here in Guilin. (6)
W: Yes, Guilin’s mountains are famous. We have flat plains too, like in Inner Mongolia.
7
M: In England, some of our plains are small and surrounded by walls or trees.
W: We have amazing rivers as well. The Yangtze River and the Yellow River are probably huge compared to
rivers in England.
M: They are. The Thames is our biggest, but it’s tiny compared to the Yangtze. (7) Everything here is massive.
Text 7
W: Leo, (8) (9) you’ve always said that studying art and literature changed your life. How exactly?
M: Studying art taught me to see beauty in everyday life. For instance, when I walk through the city, I notice the
architectural details, like how the front of a building tells a story.
W: That’s interesting. What about literature?
M: Literature deepened my feelings for other people. Reading different characters’ thoughts and emotions
helps me understand people better. (8) Both art and literature can sharpen your mind and your senses.
W: I never thought about it that way. Maybe I should spend more time on those subjects, starting from art.
What would you recommend? (9)
M: What about a visit to the new gallery next weekend? (9)
W: That’d be great.
Text 8
M: Do you know that elephants are quite intelligent? (10)
W: Really?
M: Yes. They can solve quite complex puzzles, like figuring out how to get something that’s out of reach. They
might put one thing on top of another to reach a high branch for food. They’ve also been seen using
branches to get rid of flies. (10)
W: That’s impressive.
M: And they can do math, too. In one study, elephants were able to choose between baskets containing different
numbers of items, always picking the one with more food.
W: Wow, I had no idea they could do that.
M: And there’s more. A recent study suggests that elephants might even recognize themselves in a mirror,
which shows self-awareness. (11)
W: That’s amazing. How do scientists know that? (11)
M: They did experiments where elephants touched marks on their faces after seeing them in a mirror. It’s a
sign they understood the reflection was of themselves. (11)
W: That makes me appreciate them even more. Elephants are truly remarkable creatures. (12)
Text 9
W: The cakes they sell here look wonderful, (13) but I’ve decided to reduce the amount of sugar in my diet.
(14)
M: What’s made you decide to cut down on sugar?
W: Well, I’ve been reading about how much added sugar is in modern foods. It’s not just in sweets and
cakes but in things like bread, sauces, and even salad dressings. (14)
M: I didn’t realize it was in so many things.
W: Yes. And too much sugar can lead to a host of health problems.
M: So, what are you doing to cut down?
8
W: For example, when I want something sweet, I eat fruit or nuts instead of chocolate or biscuits.
M: Isn’t it hard to give up sweet treats?
W: Maybe, but it’s worth it. I have more energy throughout the day, and my mood is better. Plus, my skin has
improved since I started cutting down on sugar. (15)
M: I didn’t know sugar could affect your skin.
W: Yes, it can cause skin problems. I’m also trying to replace sugary drinks with water or tea. Even fruit juices
can have a lot of sugar.
M: That’s interesting, Sarah. (14) (15) I think I’ll follow your lead. Above all, I’ll try to pick up less chocolate
while I’m at the supermarket, which I eat quite a lot! (16)
