Each day at school during our lunch break, every student had to find some rubbish. We put it in the bin before we returned to class. Our school was always very clean because everyone spent one or two minutes picking up rubbish every day. That same idea is now becoming popular around the world, thanks to Take 3, Australian surfer (冲浪运动员) Amanda Marechal and an ocean scientist Roberta Dixon came up with the idea in 2009. They asked everyone to pick up three pieces of rubbish each time they visited the beach. Why did they ask people to pick up just three pieces of rubbish, instead of 10 or 20? They think it’s an easy thing that people might finish. Today, Take 3 is a popular idea around the world, and not just on the beach. It has gone to the United Kingdom, the United States, Costa Rica and some other countries. At the time, there were no laws to stop children from working in a factory, so many of the workers were small children. Many children left school and went to work when they were only twelve or thirteen years old. If a family member was hurt, the son or daughter had to go to work at an even younger age. Children as young as eight worked in factories. By the end of the 1800s, twenty percent of children from ten to sixteen were working. All the children had a hard life. Because of their age, factory owners paid them less money. Children could not do the work of men, so factory owners thought it was deserved to pay them less. Also, paying them less meant the factory owner made more money. Working for too long hours was another big problem. Most children worked for twelve to fourteen hours a day. In the study, Maria Foraster and her team worked with 2,680 children aged 7-10 in Spain. They tested the children’s thinking and memory skills by giving them four tests over a year. The researchers (研究员) studied the noise both inside and outside the schools. They also estimated (估算) the noise levels at the children’s homes. Air pollution and some other factors were also considered (考虑). The results showed that children in noisy schools had a hard time remembering and paying attention to things compared with children in quiet schools. Recycling language means using vocabulary (词汇) that you have learned before again and again. However, unlike rubbish that piles up (堆积) in our environment, if we do not recycle language, we simply forget it. So how do you recycle language? There are basically three ways to do it. The first is through reading. Go back to your favorite articles and read them once more. Just reread them and do not worry about each vocabulary item. If there are some that you are not sure about, make a guess and you will probably guess right. The second way to recycle is through writing. Look at some of your favorite articles and write either a short paragraph or a few sentences in your own words. After you have done this a few times, go back and read through what you have written, checking vocabulary functions. Don’t worry if you have made mistakes. You should learn from your mistakes. The third way to recycle language is by having a chat with yourself about your favorite articles at home. You can pretend there is someone with you who speaks English and tell him what you are thinking about or how you feel. 1.According to the passage, recycling language means ________. They can be used by anyone at any time to memorize important information. Follow these steps to create your own flash cards and use them effectively. How to create flash cards? Decide on a Format (形式): Choose between classic index (索引) cards or a flash card app like AnkiApp. Then, pick a model. There are countless online resources (资源) that offer flash card models, but you can also create your own. Organize the Information: Decide what you need to learn or review. Think about what information is the most important and rephrase (重新措辞) it in your own words. ▲ Try not to include too much information. Write down facts, formulas (公式), or ideas, but stick to one per flash card. Write a word or phrase on one side and the definitions (定义) on the back. Here’s an example: Ottawa/ The capital of Canada. Make Your Flash Cards Fun: Add images or drawings to your flashcards to make them more interesting to look at and easier to remember. How to use flash cards effectively? First, flash cards are easy to carry around, so they can be used anywhere. As long as you have free time, you can take them out and have a short review period. Repeat this process often, and it will be easy for you to memorize the information. Second, flash cards can help you discover areas of weakness. When you’re using flash cards, always make two parts: one for the facts you remember, and one for those you forgot. At the end of your study session, you can review the part that you had difficulty with. Finally, always be sure to read your flash cards aloud. Reading aloud helps your brain store information in your long-term memory. Try it for yourself. Find a friend and test each other. Then he put the painted ant back into the nest to see what would happen to it. “ After the ant which was painted blue goes into the nest, the other ants try to attack (攻击) and pull it out of the nest with difficulty,” Huang said.“ But when the ants discover the painted ant belongs to the same nest by using their sense of smell, they stop attacking.” Huang researched further with instruments like cameras to learn about the ants’ ability to tell their own nestmates. “Social insects such as ants and bees have a strong ability to do that. It’s especially fun that ants are polite to humans in some ways. They also know how to work together,” Huang said. Huang’s achievements don’t depend on luck but on his great effort. Huang has raised about 1,000 ants since he was ten, using his knowledge of the needed temperature and light. Even if most people think the tests are boring, he sticks to doing them patiently. And he will go on doing more scientific projects in the future. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What does paragraph 1 tell us about Huang Yifan? A.He likes to help others. B.He comes from Shandong. Many deer die of hunger. Others grow up small and unhealthy. In search of food, hungry deer move closer to where humans live. They eat farm crops, vegetables and even trees. Also, increased numbers of deer near roads can cause traffic accidents. Some people have the idea to catch and move them to other places. But this method is expensive and requires finding another place that can accept the deer without breaking the balance of ecosystem (生态平衡). Scientists are also working to develop chemicals to control the deer populations. But this plan works for only one year at a time. Some suggest bringing in natural enemies (敌人) of deer, such as wolves, lions and bears, to areas with too many deer. But these animals could also hurt dogs, cats, and even humans. Other communities have built tall walls around areas to keep out the deer. However, this is impossible for farmers. But some people are against any kind of action. They support leaving the deer alone. Animal populations in an area naturally go up and down over time. Doing nothing means that some deer will die of hunger or illness. Firefighters fought against hundreds of wildfires in many European countries. And hundreds of people died because of the heat wave (热浪), However, according to a survey, only about 20% of homes in Europe have air conditioners, compared to 90% in the US. Why is that? First, usually it isn’t very hot in Europe in summer because of its location. Europe is located farther north than the US, making the weather cooler. The average (平均的) July high in London is 24°C, which is 10 degrees cooler than the average July high in New York. Second, there are many old houses in Europe. More than half of the houses in Europe were built in the last century. The weather then was not as hot as it is nowadays. Naturally, air conditioners were unnecessary. What’s more, those old houses’ structure and material make it harder and more expensive to install (安装) air conditioners. Installing an air conditioner could cost more than the air conditioner itself. As for other reasons, they can be very personal. Some people think air conditioners make them ailing, so they don’t accept air conditioners. Some think using air conditioners produces much greenhouse gas. It is bad for the environment and makes the weather even hotter! But things will probably change in the coming years. With higher and higher temperatures, more and more Europeans are considering installing air conditioners these days. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What can we know about the weather in Europe this summer? A.Pleasant. B.Freezing. C.Rainy. D.Uncomfortable. 2.Which of the following is NOT true according to the text? A.The average July high in New York is 36℃. B.The weather was cooler in the last century. C.The US is located farther south than Europa. D.It’s expensive to install air conditioners in old European houses. 3.What does the underlined word “ailing” mean in the fourth paragraph? A.Excited. B.Bored. C.Sick. D.Cruel. 4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the text? A.①②③④/⑤ B.①/②③④⑤ C.①②/③④/⑤ D.①/②③④/⑤ 5.What is the writer’s purpose according to the text? A.To show us that the temperatures are higher these years B.To make us know it’s important to protect the environment. C.To tell us the reasons why Europeans don’t have air conditioners. D.To teach us how to install air conditioners in old European house 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.D 5.C 【导语】本文介绍了欧洲人很少有人安装空调的原因。 1.推理判断题。根据“This summer, the temperatures were very high in Europe.”可知,今年夏天欧洲的天气非常热,因此是不舒服的,故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据“The average (平均的) July high in London is 24°C, which is 10 degrees cooler than the average July high in New York.”可知,伦敦七月的平均最高气温是24°C,比纽约七月的平均最高气温低10度。因此纽约七月的平均最高气温34°C,不是36°C,因此A项与原文不符,故选A。 3.词义猜测题。根据“Some people think air conditioners make them ailing. so they don’t accept air conditioners.” 根据“However, according to a survey, only about 20% of homes in Europe have air conditioners, compared to 90% in the US. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn’t always easy. The materials of a product are usually our first focus (重点). What is it made of? Are there any harmful chemicals in it? Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health. Packing is important. How is a product packed? Is it over packed? We’d better choose metal and paper packing, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packing or even choose unbagged products whenever possible. Location matters. Where was a product produced? Where are we buying it? Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmers and shops at markets. Look into what the company tells us about their product. It’s easy to say that a product is “green” or “all natural”, but the words may be too good to be true. So, much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are environmentally responsible. The greenest thing is certainly the one we don’t buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store and doing without (摒弃). It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces waste and keeps the planet healthy. 1.What may people consider first according to the text? A.How much the product costs. B.Where the product is from. C.What the product is made of. D.How the product looks. 2.When we go shopping in the supermarket, we’d better buy some green packaging products, such as ________. ①a glass of honey           ②a plastic bag of chips          ③an over-packaged git ④a paper box of chocolate                                             ⑤ fruit without packaging A.①②③ B.①④⑤ C.③④⑤ D.①②⑤ 3.What does the expression “be taken with a grain of salt” probably mean? A.Not be quickly forgotten. B.Be easily understood. C.Be widely spread. D.Not be completely believed. 4.What should we do if we follow the “green” rule? A.Buy some local vegetables with a plastic bag. B.Only go shopping when necessary. C.Buy the kid a bottle of milk delivered (运送) from abroad. D.Get Grandfather a can of tea with a big and fine package. 5.What is the purpose of the text? A.To teach us how to tell different materials. B.To tell us how to save money for ourselves. C.To tell us all the companies should be green. D.To give advice on how to be a green consumer (消费者). 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.B 5.D 【导语】本文绍了如何挑选绿色产品以及如何成为绿色消费者的建议。 1.细节理解题。根据“The materials of a product are usually our first focus (重点).”可知,人们首要考虑的是产品的材料成分。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据“We’d better choose metal and paper packing, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. ”可推断选择玻璃瓶、纸盒包装和无包装的水果属于绿色包装。故选B。 3.词义猜测题。根据“It’s easy to say that a product is ‘green’ or ‘all natural’, but the words may be too good to be true. So, much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt.” 可知,这里提到了这些词可能太好了,不可能是真的,因此be taken with a grain of salt 意思是“不要完全相信”。故选D。 4.细节理解题。根据“Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store and doing without (摒弃).”可知,按照绿色法则应尽量减少不必要的购物。故选B。 5.主旨大意题。通读全文,文章介绍了如何挑选绿色产品以及如何成为绿色消费者的建议。故选D。 主题02 人与社会-科技 Passage 1 (24-25九年级上·河南省郑州市外国语·期中) Have you ever counted the number of remote controls (遥控器) in your home? There are probably more than you realize. That’s because they are used for all kinds of everyday activities, such as changing TV channels, opening doors. Toy cars also make use of remote controls. But how did they become such a common feature of our lives? While you may think that the remote control is a fairly new piece of technology, it actually dates back over 100 years. In 1898, the famous inventor Nikola Tesla showed what is considered to be the world’s first remote control in New York City. Using a box with an antenna (天线), he controlled the movements of small boat. This early remote control was able to communicate with the boat using radio waves. Although nothing much came of this first invention, it served as the first step in the development of modern remote controls. Remote controls have come a long way since Nikola Tesla’s invention. They became common in homes around the world after the 1950s, when the Zenith Radio Company first paired them with TVs. Today, however, their importance spreads well beyond changing channels as they can be used for activities that are too dangerous for humans. For example, remote-controlled robots can be sent into harmful environments while their operators guide them from a safe distance. Remote controls are still being improved on all the time, and now many ordinary people can buy advanced technologies like remote-controlled drones (飞机), which can take amazing photos and videos from on high. With the development of voice operated remote controls, we may soon be able to work our phones without even touching them. If so, here is a piece of advice for you: Listen to some soft music. Scientists have found that soft music can help to improve sleep quality and quantity (量). This works for sleepers of all ages, and even for those with sleeping problems. So music can help us fall asleep better, wake up less during the night and feel more relaxed in the morning. You may not notice the effects (功效) overnight, though. It could take as many as 3 weeks to see any improvements. Why can soft music help us sleep better? The reasons aren’t clear yet. It may connect with the relaxing effect of a good song. Music can have real physical effects, too. Soft music can lower our heart rate (心率) and slow down our breathing. This prepares us for sleep. Scientists say that for most people, music that has 70 beats (节拍) per minute (bpm) works best. Classical, jazz and folk music are usually more effective than other musical styles. Familiar songs work well, too. You may need to test to make your own playlists. If you are not sure how many beats a song has in a minute, you can find out by entering its title into songbpm.com. And remember to get volume (音量) right. Make sure that the final piece is gradually slowing down. Or you may be woken up by the sudden silence. It’s very important to get enough high quality sleep. When I was young, my parents and my teachers always told me to pick up any rubbish around me. Their latest plan is to make an app. It will help people learn more about what kinds of rubbish are polluting the ocean. Do you want to make the world a cleaner place? Yet more than 700 million people around the world have trouble getting clean, safe water. Treating wastewater is a good way to provide fresh water for us. And it also helps the environment by keeping waste out of rivers and oceans. 80% of wastewater around the world is not treated at all, and it is running into oceans. But now we have got the technology to treat and reuse the wastewater. While 75% of our planet is covered with water, only about 2% is fresh water—that comes from rivers, lakes, ice and snow. The rest, 98% of the water, is in seas and oceans. It is too salty to drink. Then desalination businesses come in. More than 19,000 factories have been built around the world, mostly in coastal (沿海的) countries. They process more than 92 million tons of water every day. Passage 2 (24-25九年级上·河南省周口市西华县·期中) After the Civil War, more factories appeared in the United States. More factories meant that more people were needed to work in them. These people came from all over the country and all over the world. There was no time for them to go to school and it was bad for their health. Without an education, the children had no hope of learning skills to get a better job. Today Americans and the people all over the world feel that child labor is wrong. But a company in France is trying to make it easier. The company is called CETIA.It built two machines that use AI to help recycle clothes and shoes. With AI technology, one machine can find and cut off zippers and buttons (拉链和纽扣) from  clothes, while the other machine can pull off soles (鞋底) from shoes easily. This sounds simple, but nobody has ever done it before. “Nobody recycled soles before because it was hard to sort them from shoes,” said the leader of CETIA.People had to put shoes on an oven to melt (熔化) the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it very easily. Some clothes can be recycled into materials for houses or roads. But most clothes don’t become clothès again. That’s because clothes need materials that must be sorted carefully by hand. That usually takes a long time and is expensive. But CETIA’s machine can sort faster and better than people. Passage 2 (24-25九年级上·河南省信阳市·期中) Scientists from Spain and the Netherlands did a study and discovered that road traffic noise near schools could cause problems for children. When children were inside the classroom, the traffic noise was an even bigger problem. And noise at home made no difference to children’s learning abilities. This study is important because many children in the world are exposed to (遭受) traffic noise in schools. Calligraphy started in China and spread to other parts of Asia with Chinese culture. It has a history of 4,000 to 5,000 years. Calligraphy is the art of writing Chinese characters (汉字) and rules of writing with a brush. There are many famous calligraphers in history, such as Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing. Different calligraphy works can show different calligraphers’ feelings and personalities. Today, they can be seen on the walls of offices, shops, hotels and many other places. “If I live in China, I will become a calligrapher rather than a painter for sure,” the world-famous master of art, Picasso said. Brazilian artist Milton Omena thought about these styles. Then he designed logos (标识) for the world’s most famous painters. Van  Gogh Vincent van Gogh was a great painter of the Netherlands. He used a lot of yellow and blue in his paintings, such as Sunflowers and Starry night. Omena designed his logo with these two colors and drew some lines similar to Starry night. Leonardo da Vinci was not just an Italian painter. Omena thinks that he was no more a painter than an inventor. Therefore, the logo was Da Vinci’s drawing of a machine instead of his most famous painting, the Mona Lisa. Salvador Dali, a Spanish painter, was famous for painting clocks that look like they are melting (融化). In Dali’s paintings, he often drew things in a strange and unreal way. So Omena made a melting clock part of Dali’s logo. Pablo Picasso was a creator of modern art. His works had different styles in his different lifetime period. He got the title of “the greatest artistic genius (天才) of the 20th century” because of his rich creativity and talent. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What colors are used in the logo of Vincent van Gogh? A.using less vocabulary B.writing vocabulary over and over again C.learning more new vocabulary D.using vocabulary that we have learned very often 2.If we recycle language, it may ________. Before you know it, your grades will go up—all thanks to your use of flash cards. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What should you do first to make flash cards? A.Choose words or information. B.Choose proper forms. But this is not the case for Huang Yifan, a 17-year-old student from Shandong. He likes ants and has discovered many interesting secrets behind their behavior. It helped him win a national high school science competition. He found that though ants live underground for a long time, they can still find out whether other ants come from the same nest (窝) by looking at, smelling and touching them. To test his discovery, Huang made a nest with about 100 ants, using a plastic bottle. He took one ant out and painted it blue. Passage 3 (23-24九年级上·河南省安阳市林州市·期中) Rahul is a lonely child. Children laugh at him whenever he speaks, because he stutters (口吃). He goes “my name is Ra—Ra—Rahul”. His mother and grandmother think it is because he has a short tongue (舌头). But other people say it is because Rahul’s hair was cut before he spoke his first word when he was a baby. Last week, Rahul’s parents took him to the doctor. The doctor told them many young kids stutter between the ages of 2 and 5. But finally, the population will reach a size within the carrying capacity (容量) of the environment. So, let nature go its own way. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 1.What can increased numbers of deer bring to people in the area? A.Water pollution. B.Light pollution. C.Serious illnesses. A.Unit 1 Sports and Health B.Unit 2 Humans and Society C.Unit 3 Humans and Nature D.Unit 4 Science and Technology Passage 2 (23-24九年级上·河南省平顶山市第九中学·期中) This summer, the temperatures were very high in Europe. A.To show us that the temperatures are higher these years B.To make us know it’s important to protect the environment. C.To tell us the reasons why Europeans don’t have air conditioners. D.To teach us how to install air conditioners in old European house Passage 3 (23-24九年级上·河南省河南师范大学附属中学·期中) Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. 主题02 人与社会-科技 Passage 1 (24-25九年级上·河南省郑州市外国语·期中) Have you ever counted the number of remote controls (遥控器) in your home?
