She made her name doing what many still think of as a “man’s job” — refereeing (为……当裁判) soccer matches. The Canadian began her career as a referee in 1978, at the age of 14. She worked her way up, and in 1994, became the first female international FIFA referee. Sonia was the first woman to referee a top men’s professional game, in EL Salvador in 1996. A year later, she became the first female to referee a men’s first division game (甲级队) in Brazil. She has refereed at thousands of games at all levels, including over 100 international games, three World Cups, and two Olympic Games. Her goal has always been to encourage more young women to become involved in the game. She accepts that it can be difficult, but she is sure that progress is possible. “I became a top referee and I’m from Canada, which is not a huge footballing nation,” she said. “So if I can do it, anyone can. And I wouldn’t change anything about my life because my career has given me incredible opportunities.” In 1994, there were only four female referees on FIFA’s list. In 2008, this figure had risen to552 — over 18 percent of the 3,000 listed FIFA referees and assistants. She is now Head of FIFA Women’s refereeing and continues to promote the role of women in soccer. However, there is still a long way to go in the battle for equality in the game. It is still very unusual to see a female referee at the top international tournaments (锦标赛). Some people say this is because the woman referees aren’t fit enough to work at the highest level. But for Sonia, this is simply an excuse to hide the widespread opposition to women doing what is considered a “man’s job”. “It’s a social thing,” she says. “In some countries women in positions of authority are just not accepted.” Even Sonia admits, “Football is still a man’s world.” But, things are changing, thanks to pioneering women like Sonia. 41.How old was Sonia Denoncourt when she first refereed a men’s first division game? A.14. B.19. C.33. D.42. 42.Which of the following words can best describe Sonia Denoncourt? A.Ambitious and inspirational. B.Tough and generous. C.Proud but patient. D.Strict but caring. 43.We can learn from the fourth paragraph that Sonia ______. A.has never been accepted as a referee B.has had a great impact on women’s refereeing C.has won the battle in competing with male referees D.has already considered herself as a leading referee 44.What made women have difficulty in working as referees? A.Being unfit enough. B.A lack of experience. C.Weak physical power. D.Deep-rooted unreasonable dislike. 45.What is the best title for the text? A.A Woman Doing a Man’s Job B.A Woman Accepting Changes C.A Woman Having Her Dream D.A Woman Involved in International Games 【答案】41.C 42.A 43.B 44.D 45.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 由文章第二段中“The Canadian began her career as a referee in 1978, at the age of 14. (1994年,国际足联的名单上只有4名女裁判。2008年,这一数字上升到552人,超过了国际足联3000名裁判和助理中的18%。她现在是国际足联女子裁判的负责人,并继续促进妇女在足球中的作用。)”可知,Sonia Denoncourt对女子裁判工作产生了巨大影响。故选B。 44.细节理解题。由文章最后一段中“But for Sonia, this is simply an excuse to hide the widespread opposition to women doing what is considered a “man’s job”. “It’s a social thing,” she says. “In some countries women in positions of authority are just not accepted.” Even Sonia admits, “Football is still a man’s world.” (但对Sonia来说,这只是一个借口,用来掩盖人们普遍反对女性从事被认为是“男人的工作”。“这是一种社交活动,”她说。“在一些国家,女性担任权威职位是不被接受的。”就连索尼娅也承认,“足球仍然是男人的世界。”)”可知,女性难以担任裁判工作的原因是根深蒂固的不合理厌恶,即社会对女性担任权威职位的广泛反对。故选D。 45.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“Sonia Denoncourt is one of the most successful personalities in the world of women’s soccer. She made her name doing what many still think of as a “man’s job” — refereeing (为……当裁判) soccer matches. (Sonia Denoncourt是世界女足最成功的人物之一。她因足球裁判这一被许多人认为是“男人的工作”而名声大噪。)”可知,文章主要讲述了Sonia Denoncourt作为一位在足球裁判领域取得巨大成功的女性,她的职业生涯以及她为推动女性在足球中的角色所做的努力。因此,最适合文章的标题是“A Woman Doing a Man’s Job (一个女人做着男人的工作)”。故选A。 C It’s long known to us that living close to major roads is harmful to people due to the exposure to air pollution. However, road traffic noise is also a widespread problem in cities whose impact on children’s health remains poorly understood. A new study conducted at 38 schools in Barcelona suggests that traffic noise at schools has a harmful effect on the development of working memory and attention in primary school students. The study included 2,680 children between 7 and 10 years of age. To assess the possible impact of traffic noise on their cognitive (认知的) development, the researchers focused on two abilities that develop rapidly during preadolescence (青春期前) and are essential for learning and school attainment: attention and working memory. The fieldwork for the study was carried out over a 12-month period in 2012 and 2013,during which the participants completed the cognitive tests four times. The aim of these tests was not only to assess their working memory and attention but also to study their evolution over time. Over the same period, noise measurements were taken in front of the 38participating schools, as well as in the playground s and inside classrooms. In the analysis of outdoor noise levels of schools, higher average noise levels and greater fluctuation (波动) in noise levels were both associated with poorer student performance on all tests. Inside the classroom, greater fluctuation in noise levels was also associated with slower progress over the course of the year on all cognitive tests. However, children exposed to higher average classroom noise levels over the course of the year performed worse than students in quieter classrooms only on the attention test, but not on the working memory test. The researchers used the 2012 road traffic noise map of the city of Barcelona to estimate the average noise level at each participant’s home. In this case, however, no association was observed between residential noise and cognitive development. “This could be because noise exposure at schools is more harmful as it affects concentration and learning processes,” commented Maria Forester. “On the other hand, although noise measurements were taken at the schools, noise levels at the children’s homes were estimated using a noise map that may be less accurate and, in any case, only reflected outdoor noise. This, too, may have influenced the results.” 46.What problem does Paragraph 1 highlight? A.Impacts of traffic noise on children. B.Negative effects of living in big cities. C.The harm of air pollution to children’s health. D.The obstacle to improving working memory and attention. 47.What can we learn about the study? A.It lasted more than two years. B.It targeted schoolers of a certain age range. C.It involved participants from different nations. D.It was mainly carried out inside classrooms. 48.What played a role only in students’ poorer attention performance according to the text? A.Higher average classroom noise levels. B.Students’ worse family environment. C.Students’ weaker ability to adapt to new environments. D.Greater fluctuation in classroom noise levels. 49.How was the average residential noise level evaluated in the study? A.Through the researchers investigation. B.Through the participants’ calculation. C.Through field tests by professionals. D.Through a road traffic noise map. 50.What is Maria Forester trying to explain in the last paragraph? A.The major research directions of future studies. B.The reasons for taking noise measurements at schools. C.The factors influencing the findings of research on residential noise. D.The effects of residential noise levels on children’s concentration. 46.A 47.B 48.A 49.D 50.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段“It’s long known to us that living close to major roads is harmful to people due to the exposure to air pollution. However, road traffic noise is also a widespread problem in cities whose impact on children’s health remains poorly understood. A new study conducted at 38schools in Barcelona suggests that traffic noise at schools has a harmful effect on the development of working memory and attention in primary school students. (我们早就知道,由于暴露在空气污染中,住在主要道路附近对人们有害。然而,道路交通噪音也是城市中一个普遍存在的问题,其对儿童健康的影响仍然知之甚少。在巴塞罗那38所学校进行的一项新研究表明,学校的交通噪音对小学生的工作记忆和注意力的发展有有害影响。)”可知,第一段所强调的问题是道路交通噪音对儿童的影响。故选A。 47. 根据第二段中的“The study included 2,680 children between 7 and 10 years of age. (该研究包括2680名7至10岁的儿童。)”可知,这项研究针对某一年龄范围的在校生。故选B。 48.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Inside the classroom, greater fluctuation in noise levels was also associated with slower progress over the course of the year on all cognitive tests. However, children exposed to higher average classroom noise levels over the course of the year performed worse than students in quieter classrooms only on the attention test, but not on the working memory test. (在教室里,噪音水平的较大波动也与一年中所有认知测试的缓慢进展有关。然而,在一年的时间里,暴露在较高平均教室噪音水平下的孩子只在注意力测试中表现得比安静教室里的学生差,而在工作记忆测试中却没有。)”可知,较高的平均教室噪音水平仅在注意力表现较差上起了作用。故选A。 49. 根据倒数第二段中的“The researchers used the 2012 road traffic noise map of the city of Barcelona to estimate the average noise level at each participant’s home. (研究人员使用2012年巴塞罗那市的道路交通噪音地图来估计每个参与者家中的平均噪音水平。)”可知,研究中住宅平均噪音水平是通过道路交通噪音图来评估的。故选D。 50.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“In this case, however, no association was observed between residential noise and cognitive development.(然而,在这种情况下,没有观察到住宅噪音和认知发展之间的联系。)”以及最后一段““This could be because noise exposure at schools is more harmful as it affects concentration and learning processes,” commented Maria Forester. “On the other hand, although noise measurements were taken at the schools, noise levels at the children’s homes were estimated using a noise map that may be less accurate and, in any case, only reflected outdoor noise. This, too, may have influenced the results.” C。 D It is sometimes jokingly said that you may skip a meal a day without any adverse effect but skip using your WeChat for an hour and you will feel distinctly unwell. It is an acknowledgement of the fact that the app is no longer only a fun tool but an essential part of life for millions. Launched in January 2011, this messaging, social media and mobile payment app today has more than 1 billion individual users. People use it for everything, from applying for a business license to booking a hospital appointment to keeping up with family and friends, shopping and paying bills—activities that are part and parcel of our everyday life. When it was first introduced, WeChat was only an app supporting voice, video, picture and text messages between two persons or among a group. But today it has become ubiquitous. In the past, people carried their wallet and keys with them wherever they went; today, a smart phone with WeChat installed is all they need in daily life. Its functions like Moments and mini programs and the official WeChat accounts of government agencies and companies have made communication and public services accessible and convenient like never before. WeChat is also widely used by enterprises. Figures from Tencent show there are around 15 million WeChat official accounts, which enjoy 5 billion followers. Most businesses use their WeChat groups as a standard marketing kit. This has immensely reduced advertising, marketing and communication costs, and in the background of the novel coronavirus disease, made operations faster, contactless and safe. However, there are concerns about the downsides of WeChat, such as addiction among primary school children. Equally serious is the misuse of WeChat for fraud or instigating crimes. However, it has to be kept in mind that these fallouts are not really the fault of WeChat, but due to the misuse of the app. If we learn to temper our use of messaging apps with prudence and pragmatism, we could be looking forward to yet new conveniences and experience in this decade with the rapid development of 5G technology and artificial intelligence. Ultimately, the choice is ours, whether to use WeChat or any other new invention, wisely or wantonly. 51.We can conclude from the first paragraph that ___________. A.we can easily skip a meal a day. B.we will be ill by not using WeChat. C.WeChat used to be meant for fun. D.WeChat has become inseparable in daily life. 52.The underlined word “ubiquitous” in Paragraph 3 probably has the same meaning as ____________. A.everywhere. B.somewhere. C.nowhere. D.wherever. 53.For what reasons do the government agencies choose to use WeChat? A.WeChat has a mobile payment function. B.The agencies provide better service through WeChat. C.Mini programs are convenient for the agencies. D.People do not have to carry keys and cash with them. 54.What benefits does WeChat bring to the businesses? A.It has brought more followers. B.It has become a standard. C.It has helped to cut down the costs. D.It has made the businesses healthier. 55.What is to be remembered when we look at the downsides of WeChat? A.WeChat should be held responsibly. B.WeChat should be banned among primary school children. C.The improper use of the app leads to many problems. D.The 5G technology will bring new conveniences and experience. 根据第一段最后一句“It is an acknowledgement of the fact that the app is no longer only a fun tool but an essential part of life for millions.”(这是在承认这样一个事实:这款应用不再只是一个有趣的工具,而是数百万人生活中必不可少的一部分。) 根据第四段第一句“In the past, people carried their wallet and keys with them wherever they went; today, a smart phone with WeChat installed is all they need in daily life.”(在过去,人们无论去哪里都会随身携带钱包和钥匙;今天,一个安装了微信的智能手机是他们在日常生活中所需要的。) 故选A。 53. 根据第四段最后一句“Its functions like Moments and mini programs and the official WeChat accounts of government agencies and companies have made communication and public services accessible and convenient like never before.”(它的朋友圈、小程序以及政府机构和公司的微信官方账号等功能,使沟通和公共服务变得前所未有的便捷。) 根据第五段第四句“This has immensely reduced advertising, marketing and communication costs, and in the background of the novel coronavirus disease, made operations faster, contactless and safe.”(这大大降低了广告、营销和传播成本,在新型冠状病毒疾病的背景下,提高了操作速度、非接触性和安全性。) 根据倒第二段最后一句“However, it has to be kept in mind that these fallouts are not really the fault of WeChat, but due to the misuse of the app.”(但是,需要记住的是,这些问题并不是微信的错,而是由于应用的误用。) In a recent business magazine article, a president said, laughter in the workplace is a waste of time. Humor can help make your immune systems stronger. Here are some tips to add more humor to your life: Laugh at yourself. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have a positive attitude towards yourself and your worries will become lighter too. Don’t worry when people laugh — just appreciate it. Be funny. Look for the humorous side of and otherwise difficult situation. Prepare a first-aid laughter source. This could include books, cartoons, CDs or videos. Write down the amusing things that happen and save them for a sad day. Be open to silly things. Humor is the child within yourself. Laugh with others for what they do, rather than what they are. B Sonia Denoncourt is one of the most successful personalities in the world of women’s soccer. D It is sometimes jokingly said that you may skip a meal a day without any adverse effect but skip using your WeChat for an hour and you will feel distinctly unwell. In a recent business magazine article, a president said, laughter in the workplace is a waste of time. This is a place to do business, not to laugh. Some researchers, however, disagree with his words. Why do we need laughter in our lives? Laughter is a powerful tool for our health.
