Passage 1
Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.
However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class.
Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A.We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”

Passage 2
For the past few years, I’ve taken my vacation in the spring. One April I planned to visit a friend in Nepal who had lived in the country for over 15 years.
I flew into Kathmandu and spent a week visiting sites, and on Friday, April24, 2015, we went to Lukla, a mountain town to the northeast. My friend had worked there before. We visited a nearby village on Saturday. We were served a delicious pancake and endless cups of milk tea; villagers made small talk and caught up with each other. After a couple of hours, my friend and I made a polite exit(离去) for a coffee break across the dirt path to our lodging, a house he had lived in while working in Lukla years ago.
As we sat in the kitchen taking a rest, I wondered why it felt like an underground was running under the village. As the sound started to shake, I looked out the window at the passers-by and thought it felt like a truck was driving by-impossible in this village. I looked at my friend and he said off-handedly: “It’s an earthquake.” Before I could ask questions, he began shouting to get out of the house.By the time I was running down the dirt path, I couldn’t run straight.
Away from buildings, we lowered our bodies near a low wall, and unbelievably before our eyes, walls and buildings fell. In front of us the end wall of the house we slept in collapsed(倒塌), the stones dislodging(移开)and falling to the ground. In a matter of seconds, every house in the village was damaged(损坏), with walls either seriously cracked(破裂), or partially or completely damaged.

Passage 3
My father was attached to gardening by birth. One of my earliest memories is following Dad barefoot around in the garden with both hands blackened from digging in the soil. The garden was a wonderland full of possibilities.
As Dad grew older, he still loved gardening. Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, he still planted all sorts of plants. Sometimes, I would come over to visit, and we would walk together in the garden. But then, something changed. Like the weeds that took over his garden, the cancer grew rapidly in Dad, and the doctor gave up. I stayed with Dad twenty-four hours a day and I found myself in all kinds of uncomfortable situations with Dad until I promised to care for the garden.
Though I had heard the words of the doctor, what really made me believe that Dad was dying was the state of his garden. That year, he only planted tomatoes. Too tired to weed them, he simply tied them with strong strings to the fence and let them be. It made me sad to see them ignored, so I would come over and water them once in a while, and remove the weeds. I still remember the day I picked the last tomato from the vine (藤).That day was one of the saddest I had ever experienced in my life.
Three years ago, I decided to plant my own garden. I decided I would start out with just a few tomatoes. That morning when I moved to the garden, something caught the corner of my eye and I had to smile. It was my eight-year-old son Nathan, standing barefoot in the soil, happily playing in soil.

Passage 6
I’m Jack, a sophomore whose life flipped upside down last month.
Weekdays once hummed with routine: 6:30 a.m. alarms, Mom’s blueberry oatmeal, biking to school past dog walkers. English with Ms. Hernandez was my anchor — her tattered To Kill a Mockingbird taught me stories reveal truths. After school, basketball glued me to Tyler, my best friend; we dreamed of regional finals glory.
Then Mom texted during class: Dad’s in the hospital, heart attack. He’d be out of work for months, and his mechanic shop paid our bills. I quit the team for a 5 a.m. grocery store job. Tyler yelled, “We’re two weeks from finals!” We stopped speaking.
Now I stock shelves till 7:30, bike to school reeking of detergent, then rush to the hospital. Dad jokes about my “fancy job” while I read him sports news, but by 8 p.m., I’m too drained for homework. Grades slipped; Ms. Hernandez noticed, but pride silenced me.
Last Saturday, Dad and I watched our team lose the finals. Tyler, off his game, missed the winning layup (上篮) — staring into the camera like he sought me. “Basketball’s about showing up,” Dad said.
This morning, I texted Tyler: Sorry. Talk? I told Ms. Hernandez everything. “Detours teach you to keep going,” she said, giving me her Mockingbird. Tyler held a ball at his locker: “Coach saved your spot.” The trophy can wait. Some things — friendship, finding yourself — are worth the mess.

At 12, my father decided to take me a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited. My aunt, my father and I went around with my father showing us all the unbelievable attractions in Paris. None of us spoke much French but we loved the city.
We had taken the subway all over the city and were congratulating ourselves on our understanding of what is honestly a good subway design that is pretty easy to follow. We decided to visit Versailles by train. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English.
We reached the end of the line and felt frightened when everyone finally left the train. An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came up to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood, this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then got on it with us.
Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer (换乘) and he didn’t want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket. He did it all with a gentle smile and shook our hands gently at the stop. Then with his quiet way, he got on the train to return the way he had come.

Not Even Wrong
My eight-year-old son, lack, is a boy with autism (孤独症). Even though I always hear from others that he is very bright and he is making enough progress to meet goals, I am still anxious walking into their parents’ meetings.
Last fall’s parents’ meeting was even worse for me. I noticed Jack making a great effort to keep up with others. Some parents watched Jack and whispered (窃窃私语) and no children were willing to play with him. I started to see the social divide between Jack and his peers (同龄人) widening.
After the parents’ meeting, his teacher spent long time talking to me. She told me that it was getting more difficult for Jack to meet goals just because he was bright. Some teachers and students always complained (抱怨) about Jack’s actions. She also advised me to think about whether the normal class was the best setting for him. Hearing these words, I was very upset.

We have been hammering (锤打) square pegs into round holes for a long time. Now we should put down the hammers. And I hope that some of those kids told their parents. I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy (同情) rose up in my heart.

As a child I was one of the 125 people at our family get-together for New Year. These days we were a much smaller group in Belle Valley, Ohio. I insisted on acting as hostess and wanted to bring back the joy I’d felt at my childhood New Year that filled with love.
As family members arrived at the hall, I handed each one of them a numbered card and said, “Time for the alphabet (字母表) game.” “What kind of game is that?” one of my great-grandchildren asked. “Well,” I said, “who’s got number one?” A cousin raised her hand. “Tell us something you never forget,” I said. “Something that begins with the letter A.” My cousin smiled. “Apple pie!” she said. Great-granddaughter Mindy was next. “B,” she said. “I am impressed by Buckeye Country.” “Cookies!” Number 3 shouted.
Until N umber 17, “The next one’s a challenge,” I said. “Who’s got 17?” Ryan, my son, slowly raised his hand. “Q,” he said. “Quaker City Carnival (狂欢节).” The room went silent. “It’s one of the oldest traditions in Ohio,” Ryan said. “Grandma and Grandpa met there. That’s where they fell in love. That’s where this whole thing started. This whole family.” Ryan looked around the room, making eye contact with everyone. “We wouldn’t be here celebrating New Year together if it wasn’t for Quaker City Carnival.”
The room burst into laughter and was full of love. “This is the best New Year we’ve ever had,” a great-grandson said to me secretly. Passage 1
Two years ago, as my then-9-year-old son, George, and I were preparing for a mom-son ski trip to Keystone, Colorado, I came up with a rule: We would say yes to everything that comes our way.
George is a picky eater and can be unwilling to try new things. According to him, it’s because he has fears, including heights, spiders and the dark. I was hoping to find a solution. So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, inspired by a movie I watched. Before the trip, George and I agreed we would say yes to everything, especially new ones.
Settled at our hotel, I took George to meet his snowboarding instructor. Though he had basic lessons in Connecticut, this was his first time on a larger mountain. While he learned, I skied by myself, choosing an easy green run on the first day. Inspired by George’ s bravery on the chairlift (升降机), I challenged myself to ski a more demanding blue run the next day. It was steep, but with careful turns, I made it down in one piece, feeling proud of conquering a new challenge.
Later that afternoon, when George and I were reunited, he asked if we could go in the outdoor hot tub (浴池). Mind you, it was a 20-degree day, and the only thing I hate more than being cold is being cold and wet! When I started to refuse, George reminded me of the rule.
Yes, it was cold, and yes, I was wet. But it was also refreshing to feel the cold air on my skin, and the warm water of the hot tub felt that much better once we got in. Getting out was a different story, but the experience was a delight as George and I braved it together.
Developing a sense of adventure helps us live life to the fullest — even if you sometimes wind up cold and wet.

“We give our girls the power (力量) to believe in themselves, go to college, and become tomorrow’s leaders,” says Felicia Gibson Jaycox, the founder (创立者) and chief executive officer of The Power of You Teens (POYT). The organization is based in Harlem, a historic African-American neighborhood in New York City.
Founded in 2014, POYT offers educational chances and positive role models for teenage girls growing up in Harlem. These “Power Girls” take part in dance, summer camp, and STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), among other programs. The purpose, according to the group, is to empower teenage girls to help them “dream big and to inspire them to achieve the most that they are capable of.”
POYT held its sixth yearly Empowerment Event in the fall of 2019 in New York City. The theme of “Girl Boss” encouraged girls to show their inner boss spirit. Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris was the keynote speaker.
Kaliegh said that she and other beauty competition winners are helping to reshape traditional images of beauty and showing that women of color are not just beautiful — they also are driven, wise women whom little girls can look up to.
I asked Ashley McFarlin Buie, POYT co-director, what inspired founder and CEO Felicia Gibson to start the organization. Gibson saw the plight that girls of color are in. For some historical reasons, many girls of color are growing up in terrible neighborhoods. They seldom see people like themselves showed positively in movies, books, TV shows, and other media.
“Powerful girls grow up to be dependable and confident women, preparing for their futures as creative leaders,” Buie said. POYT centers on saving the mind, body, and spirit of Black girls through love and support, she added.

Passage 4
I’m a seventeen-year-old boy preparing for my A Level exams at the end of the year. In the society where my peers (同龄人) and I live, we tend to accept the rat race values. As students, we want to get good grades so that we can get good jobs. I enjoy studying and have always received A’s in my classes. There was a year when I finished first in my class in the final exams. It was a great achievement.
Another one I am pleased with is that I managed to improve the relationship between Mum and Dad. Dad was a successful businessman who was rarely at home. Mum was a housewife who always felt bored and nagged (唠叨) him to let her go to work. Their frequent arguing bothered me, so I advised Dad that Mum would be better off with a part-time job. He agreed, and their relationship has improved since then.
My most proud achievement, however, is my successful work in the local old folks’ home. My grandparents had raised me since I was a child. I wept (哭泣) bitterly when they died. Unlike many of my classmates, I do not take part in my school’s community service to earn points. I enjoy my voluntary work and believe I’m contributing to a worthwhile cause. This is where I can help. I talk to the elderly, help them with their daily life, and listen to their problems, happy days and the hardships they experienced.
Last year, I hosted a successful New Year party for the elderly and they enjoyed a great time. Many expressed a desire to attend another party the following year. When I reflect on my accomplishments, I’m especially proud of my service at the old folks’ home, so I hope to study social work at university and work as a social worker in the future. I wish to be more skilled in attending to the less fortunate as well as find great satisfaction in it, after all.

1.What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Interest. B.Responsibility. C.Dislike. D.Misunderstanding.
2.What first made the author look forward to math class?
A.Mr. A’s attitude.
B.Her interest in math.
C.Her friends’ encouragement.
D.The top achievers in her class.
3.How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A?
A.It was straight.
B.It was awkward.
C.It was challenging.
D.It was impressive.
4.How did the author change in math?
A.She made slow progress.
B.She fell in love with math.
C.She became a straight-A math student.
D.She became comfortable with difficult math questions.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.A
根据上文“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学起我就不擅长数学。高中的时候,上课变得越来越难了,我离数学老师的梦想学生更远了。)”可知,从中学到高中,作者越来越学不会数学。画线词所在句中的“So”表明上下文为因果关系,作者学不好数学,所以“不喜欢”数学。划线词aversion与dislike意思相近,意为“不喜欢,厌恶”。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion(热情) not only for math but for teaching.(很明显,A老师不仅对数学有着真正的热情,而且对教学也有着真诚的热情。)”和“Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the ‘I can’t’ student.(他鼓励每一个学生,从最优秀的学生到‘我不能’的学生。)” 故选A。
根据第四段中的“My classmates began to do the same, and it became ‘cool’ to have lunch and talk with Mr. A.(我的同学们也开始这样做,和A老师一起吃午饭和聊天变得很‘酷’。)”
根据最后一段中的“Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb.(虽然我的故事不是一鸣惊人的那种故事,我也没有成为一名数学全优的学生,但我的努力确实开始有了回报,我的成绩也开始慢慢攀升。)” 故选A。

Passage 5
Here’s the story of my growth over the past year. If anyone is inspired (激励) by this, that’s wonderful.
I’d been stuck as this under-confident, fat and just frightened girl for years and years and years. Since I was a little girl, I’d been stuck like this, and I had lived a life where I’d be afraid of everything. But then it all started changing. Something clicked, and in over a period of 6 months I finally managed to stick to one of my diets, bringing me from overweight straight down to underweight. This proved (证明) that I could change myself.
One single time, I heard about a public speaking thing going on at my university, and for the first time, I managed to keep up the courage to go there. For the first time I was able to share my story, and able to do it in front of so many people possibly judging (评判) me, and suddenly all the fears about speaking publicly started vanishing. I never felt more confident.
This taught me I could get rid of my fears. It was from that point on that my road to change went from a rocky mess to a full-on empty highway.
Using the fact that I could change, and that I could get rid of my fears, I started working on them one by one. My fear of talking to strangers , my fear of asking simple questions, my fear of hanging out with people, my fear of being myself… All of them were gone. And I still continue to progress to this day. I’ve never stopped.

D.Tyler missed the winning layup in the finals.
3.What can we learn about Ms. Hernandez?
A.She is strict with her students.
B.She gave Jack a new storybook.
C.She noticed Jack’s falling grades.
D.She forced Jack to talk about his problems.
4.What does the underlined word “Detours” in the last paragraph probably mean?

Passage 2

Passage 1
Then she blew my mind. She showed me one example of Jack’s works and said, “I didn’t know how to grade this. It’s not even wrong, but it’s not right.” I grasped when she said “not even wrong”, which is the name of one of my favorite books on autism, by Paul Collins. The book says a girl whose idea is so far off base but it is not even wrong. It perfectly describes autism and it perfectly describes Jack.
In his book, Paul Collins wrote, “Children with autism are like the square pegs (钉,桩). Hitting a square peg into a round hole is hard work. What’s worse, it’s destroying the square pegs.”
As a mother of a boy with autism, I want to help find more square holes. I want this world to be a world where it is okay to be a square peg without having to pretend to be round. We have been hammering (锤打) square pegs into round holes for a long time. Now we should put down the hammers. And I hope that some of those kids told their parents. And I hope that some of you read this and tell your kids. And I hope that we, all of us together, CAN change the world.

根据划线单词前的“Some parents watched Jack and whispered (窃窃私语) and no children were willing to play with him.(一些父母看着杰克,低声说,没有孩子愿意和他玩)”可知,作者注意到一些家长说没有孩子愿意跟杰克一起玩,结合划线单词后的“between Jack and his peers (同龄人) widening.”
根据第四段中的“She showed me one example of Jack’s works and said, “I didn’t know how to grade this. It’s not even wrong, but it’s not right.”(她给我看了一幅杰克的作品,然后说:“我不知道怎么给这个打分。这甚至都不算错,但这是不对的。”)”可知,老师说不知道如何给杰克的作品打分,没有错,但也不对,结合下文中的“The book says a girl whose idea is so far off base but it is not even wrong.(书里说的是一个女孩,她的想法很离谱,但这甚至都不算错)”可知,女孩的想法很离谱,但甚至没有错。
根据第五段“In his book, Paul Collins wrote, “Children with autism are like the square pegs (钉,桩). Hitting a square peg into a round hole is hard work. What’s worse, it’s destroying the square pegs.”(保罗·柯林斯在他的书中写道:“自闭症儿童就像方形的钉子。把方钉子塞进圆洞是件难事。更糟糕的是,它正在破坏方正的钉子。”)”可知,Paul Collins认为患自闭症的孩子就是方形钉子,在想办法把方形钉子塞进圆洞中很难,而且还破坏了方形钉子。由此推知,Paul Collins建议人们不要去改变自闭症患者,应该让他们做自己。故选D项。
5.推理判断题。根据尾段中的“And I hope that some of those kids told their parents. And I hope that some of you read this and tell your kids. And I hope that we, all of us together, CAN change the world.(我希望那些孩子能告诉他们的父母。我希望你们中的一些人读了这篇文章,并告诉你们的孩子。我希望我们,我们所有人一起,可以改变世界)”可知,作者在最后使用三个希望来呼吁人们改变对自闭症患者的看法,相信大家一起可以改变世界。由此推知,作者的目的是呼吁人们改变对自闭症患者的看法。故选A项。
Passage 2
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to take mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”
Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.
1.How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed?
A.By analyzing (分析) causes. B.By showing differences.

4.What might be the best title for the story?
A.My Friend Kate B.Hard Work Pays Off
C.How to Be Organized D.Learning to Be Roommates
根据第一段的内容“I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.(我从来都不太整洁,而我的室友凯特却非常有条理。她的每件东西都有自己的位置,但我的东西总是藏在某个地方。她甚至给所有东西都贴上了标签。我总是寻找一切。随着时间的推移,凯特变得更整洁,而我变得更凌乱。她把我的脏衣服推开,我把书放在她整洁的桌子上。我们都厌倦了对方。)”可知,在第一段作者是通过对比自己和室友的不同展开的。故选B项。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段的句子“Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” (很快,我听到她尖叫道:“把你的鞋子拿走!为什么在我床底下!”)”可知,一天晚上凯特如此生气是因为作者把鞋子放在了她的床底下。故选D项。
3.推理判断题。根据第三段的最后一句“All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy (同情) rose up in my heart.(突然,一种温暖的同情在我心中升起)”可知,作者同情室友,想表示对室友的关心,所以作者整理了房间。故选C项。
Passage 3
Whatever their New Year would look like when they grew up, they’d remember this one. And for me, I had an unforgettable New Year to treasure—a memory where love started with the letter Q.
1.Why did the author want to organize the alphabet game?
A.To enjoy the family get-together.
B.To share moving stories with family.
C.To act as the hostess of the New Year party.
D.To experience long-lost New Year happiness.
2.Based on the game rule, which word will you give if you get number 23?
A.Teddy Bear. B.Yogurt. C.Watermelon. D.Steak.
3.Why did Ryan’s story make the family members laugh?
A.It was connected with their family roots. B.They understood the meaning of love.
C.They knew their grandparents better. D.It brought a tradition back to them.
4.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Letter Full of Love B.A Traditional New Year Game
C.A Family Custom at New Year D.A Love Story About the Carnival

根据第一段中“I insisted on acting as hostess and wanted to bring back the joy I’d felt at my childhood New Year that filled with love.(我坚持扮演女主人的角色,想带回童年时充满爱的新年的快乐。)”以及第二段中“As family members arrived at the hall, I handed each one of them a numbered card and said, “Time for the alphabet (字母表) game.”(当家人到达大厅时,我递给他们每人一张编号的卡片,并说:“字母表游戏时间到了。”)”
根据第二段中““Something that begins with the letter A.” My cousin smiled. “Apple pie!” she said. Great-granddaughter Mindy was next. “B,” she said. “I am impressed by Buckeye Country.” “Cookies!” (“以字母A开头的东西。”我表姐笑了。“苹果派!她说。下一个是曾孙女明迪。“B,”她说。“我对七叶树之乡印象深刻。”“饼干!”)”可知,这个游戏是以字母顺序的首字母为单词展开的,由此可知,如果你得到第23个单词,应该说以W字母开头的单词,所以Watermelon符合游戏规则。故选C。
3.细节理解题。根据第三段中““It’s one of the oldest traditions in Ohio,” Ryan said. “Grandma and Grandpa met there. That’s where they fell in love. That’s where this whole thing started. This whole family.”(“这是俄亥俄州最古老的传统之一,”瑞安说。奶奶和爷爷在那里相遇。他们就是在那里坠入爱河的。这就是整件事开始的地方。这整个家庭。”)”可知,瑞安的故事会引起家人的笑声是因为这与他们的家族渊源有关。故选A。
根据文章大意以及最后一段“The room burst into laughter and was full of love. “This is the best New Year we’ve ever had,” a great-grandson said to me secretly. Whatever their New Year would look like when they grew up, they’d remember this one. And for me, I had an unforgettable New Year to treasure—a memory where love started with the letter Q.(房间里爆发出笑声,充满了爱。“这是我们度过的最好的新年,”一个曾孙偷偷地对我说。不管他们长大后的新年是什么样子,他们都会记住这个。对我来说,我有一个难忘的新年值得珍藏——一段爱从字母Q开始的记忆。)”可知,文章主要讲的是作者组织家人一起玩字母表游戏,来找回童年时充满爱的新年的快乐。故A选项“A Letter Full of Love(一个充满爱的字母)”概括文章大意。故选A。

1.Why did the writer start a “Yes Day” rule?
A.To conquer George’s ski fears.
B.To encourage George to try new things.
C.To master new snowboarding skills.
D.To win in snowboarding competitions.
2.Which of the following best describes George?
A.Courageous. B.Confident. C.Positive D.Responsible.
3.What can we learn about the writer from paragraph 4&5?
A.She was eager to go in the outdoor hot tub.
B.She regretted breaking the rule with George.
C.She found it rewarding to brave the experience.
D.She felt much better when she got out of the tub.
4.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Braving Winter: Family Unity
B.Family Ski Trip: Mountain Memories
C.Ski Challenges: Winter Wonders
D.Welcoming Yes: A Family Adventure
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.D
由文章第二段“George is a picky eater and can be unwilling to try new things. According to him, it’s because he has fears, including heights, spiders and the dark. I was hoping to find a solution. So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, inspired by a movie I watched. Before the trip, George and I agreed we would say yes to everything, especially new ones.(乔治是个挑食的人,有时不愿意尝试新事物。据他说,这是因为他有恐惧,包括恐高、怕蜘蛛和怕黑暗。我希望能找到解决办法。所以我借用了“Yes Day”的想法,灵感来自于我看过的一部电影。)”可知,作者提出了“Yes Day”规则,鼓励乔治尝试新事物。故选B。
2.推理判断题。由文章第三段中“Inspired by George’ s bravery on the chairlift (升降机), I challenged myself to ski a more demanding blue run the next day.(受到乔治在缆车上的勇敢的鼓舞,我挑战了自己,第二天要滑一条要求更高的蓝道。)” 故选A。
由文章第四段中“Mind you, it was a 20-degree day, and the only thing I hate more than being cold is being cold and wet! When I started to refuse, George reminded me of the rule.(提醒你一下,那是一个20华氏度的天气,我唯一讨厌的事情比寒冷更讨厌的是又冷又湿!当我开始拒绝时,乔治提醒了我这条规定。)”和第五段“Yes, it was cold, and yes, I was wet. But it was also refreshing to feel the cold air on my skin, and the warm water of the hot tub felt that much better once we got in. Getting out was a different story, but the experience was a delight as George and I braved it together.(是的,天气很冷,是的,我浑身湿透了。但感受凉风吹在皮肤上的感觉也很清爽,而且我们一进去,热水浴缸里的温水感觉就好多了。出去是另一个故事,但乔治和我一起勇敢地经历了一次愉快的经历。)”可知,作者一开始拒绝在寒冷的天气里泡户外浴池,但在乔治的提醒和一起尝试后,作者觉得这次经历很愉快,说明作者认为这次勇敢尝试是值得的。故选C。
4.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第二段“George is a picky eater and can be unwilling to try new things. According to him, it’s because he has fears, including heights, spiders and the dark. I was hoping to find a solution. So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, inspired by a movie I watched. Before the trip, George and I agreed we would say yes to everything, especially new ones.(乔治是个挑食的人,有时不愿意尝试新事物。

再根据第一段“Steve Sparks was a young successful lawyer working for a famous law firm when his 3-year-old daughter’s serious leg problem changed his focus and the direction of his life. The problem led to many visits to doctors and an uncertain future. In a moment his life’s focus shifted from where he was going to take his clients to lunch to whether his daughter Katie was ever going to see her fourth birthday.(Steve Sparks是一位年轻成功的律师,在一家著名的律师事务所工作。当时,他三岁的女儿严重的腿部问题改变了他的生活重心和方向。这个问题导致了很多人去看医生和不确定的未来。在那一刻,他的生活重心从带客户去哪里吃午饭转移到了他的女儿Katie能否度过她的四岁生日)”可知,这篇文章讲述的是“一个有良好目的男人”。故选C。
2.词义猜测题。根据第三段中“but Steve’s purpose had found him and it was more important than a paycheck.(但Steve的目标找到了他,这比薪水重要得多)”可知,Steve的薪水“减少了”。
根据第二段中“with the help of wonderful doctors and kind care-givers in Nemours Foundation, who Steve and his wife Michelle describe as heroes, Katie’s illness was cured(在内穆尔基金会出色的医生和善良的护理人员的帮助下,凯蒂的病被治愈了。史蒂夫和他的妻子米歇尔称他们是英雄)”;第三段中“Forever changed by the experience and inspired by the heroes who saved his daughter’s life, Steve felt he couldn’t go back to business as usual. Passage 2
What do the girls get out of the group? “We offer chances,” Buie said, “to break barriers (屏障).”
1.What do we know about POYT?
A.It is run by teenage girls.
B.It was started about 6 years ago.
C.It provides services all around America.
D.It was first started in African-American neighborhoods .
2.What did the 2019 Empowerment Event mainly want to do?
A.Speak for women of color.
B.Change people’s traditional ideas of beauty.
C.Call on girls to be positive role models.
D.Encourage girls to go into business in the future.
3.What does the underlined word “plight” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Sad feeling. B.Difficult task.
C.Bad situation. D.Uncertain future.
4.What is the best title for this text ?
A.Dream big B.Power Girls
C.Teenage Power D.Breaking barriers
根据第二段第一句“Founded in 2014, POYT offers educational chances and positive role models for teenage girls growing up in Harlem.”
根据第三段第一句“POYT held its sixth yearly Empowerment Event in the fall of 2019 in New York City. The theme of “Girl Boss” encouraged girls to show their inner boss spirit.”
根据第五段第三、四句“For some historical reasons, many girls of color are growing up in terrible neighborhoods. They seldom see people like themselves showed positively in movies, books, TV shows, and other media.”(由于一些历史原因,许多有色人种的女孩在恶劣的环境中长大。
根据第二段最后一句“The purpose, according to the group, is to empower teenage girls to help them “dream big and to inspire them to achieve the most that they are capable of.””(据该组织称,此举的目的是帮助十几岁的女孩“拥有远大的梦想,并激励她们实现自己最大的能力”。)
Passage 3
In the third grade, ten-year-old Jane read a book about poaching (偷猎) the endangered tigers and cutting down forests at will. She told her friend Holt about it and she really wanted to help save the tigers.
Despite being in elementary school, the two girls have organized fundraisers(资金筹集).During their first year, the girls raised $1,500 to save tigers. “We went to a zoo and asked if we could help and it became this huge fun thing. We never expected it to get so big,” the girls said.
When Jane and Holt pitched their ideas in the zoo to ask for funds, their table was packed with zoo guests all afternoon. This year’s goal is $2,500. Whatever they raise will be matched by the Zoological Society and all be donated(捐赠) to the Tiger Protection Fund.
On top of helping the animal, the girls would also be excited about their names to be proudly posted at the zoo’s entrance on a sign with other donors. “If we get our names on it, it’s going to feel like being famous, and it’s going to be like a dream come true for us,” Jane said. They said they were close to their goal and the zoo couldn’t be happier.
“Their awareness of what’s happening to tigers and their wanting to educate people on what’s happening to tigers are unbelievable,” Kassner, an animal expert, said. “Three kinds of tigers have already died out and the remaining six are all endangered. The ‘Tiger Girls’ are bringing a big and positive effect and won’t be stopping anytime soon.”

She told her friend Holt about it and she really wanted to help save the tigers.”(三年级时,十岁的简读了一本关于偷猎濒危老虎和随意砍伐森林的书。
根据划线词句中“…to ask for funds, their table was packed with zoo guests all afternoon.”(……

We can do this now though we’re only fifth graders and just imagine what we can do in the future,” Holt said.”(“我很高兴我们走了这么远。
1.What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph?
A.His good grades got him a good job.

A.A judge. B.A helper. C.A monitor. D.A supporter.
