Passage 1
Australian teenagers are missing important, basic kitchen skills and it’s having a negative influence on their health. It’s also leading our next generation towards increased rates of obesity (肥胖), according to the findings of a new survey.
A national survey of 1,006 parents found that close to half of all 12 to 18 years old teenagers can’t boil an egg; 1 in 5 only have kitchen skills that allow them to pour milk on cereal; 42% can’t boil noodles; 83.9% don’t know how to roast a chicken; 60.1 percent can’t bake a potato.
Research company Pureprofile asked parents to judge how well their kids could perform in the kitchen across some tasks. More than half (67.3%) of parents believe their children could do better when it comes to healthy food and lifestyle knowledge. Close to half of parents (42.5%) believe poor food choices are caused by lack of education at middle school, with 9 in 10 parents in support of schools doing more to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Miriam Raleigh, an expert on the relationship between food and health, said she was already seeing a generation of young parents who had “no idea how to cook”. “They depend on convenience meals and easy snacks, and those foods often have a higher fat and salt content which can lead to obesity and a lot of health problems,” Ms Raleigh said.
The school’s Kitchen Garden program founder, Stephanie Alexander, said that if more was not done to improve the situation we would be heading towards a generation of fatter and more unhealthy kids. Ms Alexander also said she would introduce her Kitchen Garden program into middle schools so teenagers can learn the art of cooking food. “I’m so proud of what we have achieved in the primary school and I really believe we can have the same success in middle schools,” she said.

Passage 3
A notable study by Princeton University and UCLA researchers explores how note-taking methods affect academic performance, finding that handwritten note-takers consistently outperform laptop users in exams.
The study included 150 undergraduates split into two groups, both attending 45-minute lectures on introductory psychology and astrophysics — subjects blending facts and reasoning. One group used notebooks, the other laptops with no note-taking restrictions.
Post-lecture results were clear: handwritten note-takers scored 18% higher on comprehension questions and 12% higher on recall tasks. A week later, for long-term retention, the gap grew to 23%, showing deeper processing.
Researchers point to differing cognitive processes. Handwriting’s slower pace demands active synthesis: filtering key ideas, rephrasing concepts, and linking new info to existing knowledge — strengthening memory pathways. Laptop users often transcribe verbatim (一字不差地), engaging in “shallow processing” without parsing meaning.
Notably, note length didn’t correlate with performance; top-scoring handwritten notes were concise, focusing on core principles. This highlights the quality of engagement over quantity.
These findings matter for education. With digital tools prevalent, educators might encourage handwritten notes for complex subjects, using laptops for rapid data entry. Ultimately, the study emphasizes that learning flourishes in active, mindful engagement, not passive consumption.
1.What is the main finding of the study by Princeton University and UCLA researchers?
A.Laptop note-takers write longer notes than handwritten note-takers.
B.Handwritten note-takers perform better in exams than laptop users.
C.Note-taking methods have no significant effect on academic performance.
D.Students prefer digital note-taking tools over traditional notebooks.
2.What subjects were included in the lectures for the study?
A.Introductory psychology and astrophysics
B.Mathematics and computer science
C.History and literature
D.Biology and chemistry
3.Why do handwritten note-takers achieve better results according to the researchers?
A.They write more detailed notes.
B.They can review notes more easily.
C.They engage in active synthesis of information.
D.They spend more time on note-taking during lectures.
4.What does the study emphasize about effective learning?
A.Using digital tools for all types of note-taking
B.Writing as many notes as possible during lectures
C.Active and mindful engagement rather than passive consumption
D.Focusing on recall tasks rather than comprehension questions

Welcome to your freshman year of high school! Junior high is behind you, and now you enter a whole new world. But what should you expect about your freshman year of high school?
High schools are usually larger than any other school you’ve ever attended. Often, they seem to require a GPS to get from place to place. As a result, it’s important to take orientation days (迎新日) seriously. Take your schedule and walk it a few times before the first day of school. The more you know going in, the faster you’ll feel comfortable.
Making new friends is both exciting and scary in high school. You’ll be taking classes with people you’ve never met before, and they have whole new world views. Your friends may not share their lunch or study hall, so keep yourself open to finding others to sit with during those times. Other freshmen will be going through the same situation as you, and they’ll need someone to sit with. If you see another freshman looking for a seat, provide a seat for him/ her at your table.
When you went from 6th grade to middle school, you found your coursework become more difficult. Your coursework will greatly increase, and expectations (期待) from your teachers will be much greater than before. You’ll have more homework, more papers, and harder exams. So learning how to study well is very important in high school.

Passage 5
After entering high school, you may find there are many clubs at your school. You may think you’re too busy to join one. But as a former high school student, I can tell you joining a school club can greatly benefit you.
Your old friends may have left you after entering high school. And it means you need to meet new people. Joining a club allows you to talk with others and find those who have similar interests as you. Based on my experience, I have met some of my best friends from club activities which opened up many new doors for me.
Another really nice thing about joining a club is that it looks really good on your applications. Trying new things is something that looks really good on any application. Being outgoing is considered a very good quality. What’s more, it can help you develop skills that can serve you during future college interviews.
Besides, joining a club can make students use their free time wisely. Most teens go to schools, then go back home and spend the rest of the day in front of a screen. Teens are also very likely to fall into the wrong crowd, which could lead to some bad results. Clubs are good places to spend time, with good people to fall back on.
The most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefits it brings. The skills you learn in clubs are necessary ones that can be used in everyday life, which I think is the final goal of joining a club.
So if you haven’t joined a school club yet, you know what you should do now.
1.What can we learn from the second paragraph?

Passage 1
There are a few benefits to users from the cloud besides giving you peace of mind if you lose your phone. You can access your data anytime, anywhere if you’re connected to the Internet. And you don’t have to worry about using up all of the storage on your hard drive, meaning you might not have to pay as much for a device that comes with a ton of storage.
You’ve probably heard of the two biggest names in the market, Amazon Web Services, known as AWS, and Microsoft Azure, IBM, Google and Alibaba are also big players when it comes to providing cloud services.
Many cloud services are based on a subscription pricing model. That means users pay, for example, a monthly fee for cloud services and they can scale up or down as needed. And cloud providers are cashing in. AWS takes up about 12 percent of Amazon’s quarterly sales, but it makes more than half of the company’s operating income.
Before we get too excited about the cloud, let’s take a step back and look at some of the risks. One obvious concern, if all of our data is online, what happens when the Internet goes down? That’s what happened in 2013 when an AWS power cut took down Instagram, Vine and Airbub.
Hacker attacks are another big risk with research showing around one-fifth of all files in the cloud contain sensitive data.
Finally, it can be difficult for consumers and businesses to switch between different cloud companies. I might have a hard time syncing my iCloud and Google Drive accounts. That can give some big companies that are already making big money on the cloud a lot of power over our data.
1.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “access” in Paragraph 1?
A.Get. B.Show. C.Understand. D.Enter.
2.Which of the following provides cloud services?
A.Instagram. B.Alibaba. C.Airbub. D.Vine.
3.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Cloud providers offer services at their own cost.
B.All the cloud services must be ordered ahead of time.
C.AWS gains over 50%of Amazon’s operating income.
D.Customers must pay a regular fixed fee for cloud services.
4.The main idea of the passage is about ______.
A.what the cloud is B.how the cloud works
C.the advantage over disadvantage of the cloud D.the advantage and disadvantage of the cloud
Passage 2
In the present digital age, we are constantly surrounded by technology. But have you noticed how our usage of certain devices(设备)has changed over time? Let’s take smartphones as an example. How often do we really use them for their original intended purpose: making calls? It seems that the culture of using phones for calling is gradually disappearing. What has caused this change, and what are the results?
“People are using their phones for everything except making calls, ” said Jane Smith, a professor from America. “The once common act of picking up the phone to have a conversation is becoming less and less frequent.”
There are several reasons for this change. One major factor is the use of alternative(可替代的)communication. Messaging apps, which can send texts, images, videos, and even voice messages, offer a more convenient and flexible way to communicate. In addition, social media platforms and video conferencing tools have made it easier to stay connected with people in different ways.
Another reason is the increase in unwanted calls. Many people are tired of receiving calls from telemarketers or automated systems that they don’t want, These spam calls have made people less likely to answer their phones, even when it’s a normal call.
As the phone call culture fades away, it raises questions about its influence on our social interactions. In the past, a shared home phone was a central point for family communication. It brought family members together and provided a sense of connection. However, with the rise of individual smartphones, people are more isolated and less likely to have face-to-face conversations.
Professor John Doe, an expert in communication studies, said, “The reduction of phone calls means we are losing a form of communication that was once very important for building relationships and keeping social connections. We need to find new ways to reconnect and communicate in a meaningful way.”
Of course, technology is always changing, and we must get used to these changes. While the disappearance of phone call culture may have its disadvantages, it also creates opportunities for new forms of communication and connection.
1.Why do people use phones less for calling?
A.Because making calls is now very expensive.
B.Because it’s not convenient to carry phones around.
C.Because there are now lots of other ways to communicate.
D.Because the signals on phones are not very good.
2.What can we learn from Professor John Doe’s words?
A.We are using smartphones instead of traditional home phones.
B.We should try to spread the culture of phone conversations.
C.Modern forms of communication are not so important.
D.Fewer phone calls have a bad influence on our social connections.
3.What is the author’s attitude towards the changing phone culture?
A.Objective. B.Worried. C.Positive. D.Satisfied.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.The big changes in communication methods.
B.The bad effects of smartphones on our lives.
C.The gradual disappearance of the phone call culture.
D.The rapid development of technology and its effects.
Passage 3
The MeowTalk app, an innovative tool developed by computer scientists Sergei Dreizin and Mark Boyes at Akvelon, aims to bridge the communication gap between cats and their owners. Launched in November 2020, this app has gained significant popularity, with over 20 million downloads and the analysis of over a billion meows to enhance its accuracy.
MeowTalk records and translates cat meows into phrases like “I’m annoyed” or “Feed me!”, providing owners with a better understanding of their pets’ needs and emotions. This technology is part of a growing trend in pet communication tools, including FluentPet, which teaches pets to press buttons to express their needs.
However, cat behaviorist Charlotte de Mouzon expresses doubt about the effectiveness of such tools. She believes that while they may enhance communication, they should not replace the necessary bond between cats and their owners. Instead, she stresses the importance of careful observation and understanding of cats’ body language and smell signaling.
Indeed, cats use various methods to communicate, with adult cats usually meowing only to humans as a means of clear communication. While MeowTalk can classify nine phrases with 90% correctness, experts stress that artificial intelligence is not totally dependable. Therefore, paying attention to a cat’s sound and body language remains key for effective communication.
Finally, understanding cat meows is a co-learning process filled with both discoveries and misunderstandings. Tools like MeowTalk can aid in this journey, but the key lies in promoting a strong, attentive relationship between cats and their owners.
1.What is the main purpose of the MeowTalk app?
A.Predict future behaviors of cats.
B.Manage the health situation of cat.
C.Train cats to communicate by pressing buttons.
D.Translate cat meows into human-understandable words.
2.How many times has the MeowTalk app been downloaded since its launch?
A.Over 1 million times. B.Over 10 million times.
C.Over 20 million times. D.Over 50 million times.
3.According to the article, what technology does the MeowTalk app use to analyze cat meows?
A.Artificial intelligence. B.Machine learning.
C.Data collecting. D.Natural language processing.
4.What is Charlotte de Mouzon’s attitude towards the MeowTalk app?
A.Fully supportive. B.Questionable. C.Disapproving D.Unconcerned.

Passage 1
Nowadays, handwriting seems to become less necessary, for young children learn to tap and touch screens before they have even learned to pick up a pencil or tie their shoelaces. Most of our written communication is done through texting on mobile phones or typing on a keyboard. And voice recognition softwares are becoming more and more advanced —making even keyboards unnecessary!
So, are handwriting skills important to your child? Actually, handwriting is an exercise in eye-hand coordination (协调), an important part of visual-motor (视觉运动) skills, which are connected with achievements in study. Scientists found that developing fine visual-motor skills in early childhood can lead to not only writing success, but better performance in reading and math in elementary school. It was also found that kids who fail to write neatly and efficiently are often accused of being lazy, and this may affect their behavior and self-worth. Moreover, a study showed that when a group of children were asked to come up with ideas for an article, the ones with better handwriting were more active and had quicker minds. In some ways, handwriting helps their brains’ development.
The first attempts at writing can be challenging for pre-school children —whose fine motor skills are not yet fully developed. But some skills to prepare for handwriting are simple to build at home and in preschool. Parents should provide lots of opportunities for kids to copy and draw shapes and simple pictures in early childhood before letters are introduced. Let your child copy your shapes in sand, or with chalks on a board before trying to draw the shapes on their own. Encourage your child to spend less time on electronic devices and more time on activities to improve eye-hand coordination.
Let’s face it —technology is certain to continue developing and more research is needed to find the best ways to teach handwriting to young children. But, there’s plenty of evidence that the handwriting practice can provide young children with a good start in developing skills needed for a healthy and successful journey in school.
1.According to Paragraph 1, handwriting is ________.
A.easy to learn on a touch screen B.used less frequently now
C.more difficult than typewriting D.totally replaced by softwares
2.How does the author explain the benefits of handwriting?
A.By presenting some research findings.
B.By mentioning examples of the kids around him.
C.By giving some news reports on hand-writing.
D.By providing data about pupils with good grades.
3.What does the author suggest parents do?
A.Keep young children away from electronic devices.
B.Teach pre-school children to write letters with chalks.
C.Help children get ready for handwriting before school.
D.Encourage children to face writing challenges bravely.
4.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Does poor handwriting really mean being lazy?
B.Should handwriting be taken seriously in children’s growth?
C.How can handwriting affect children’s self-confidence?
D.Should homework be done through handwriting or typewriting?
Passage 2
Are you looking for some excitement in your life? How about trying a new hobby that gets your heart racing?
You might enjoy running, right? Well, then you’ re already on the right track to becoming a trail runner(越野跑选手). It is not so hard as you think. All you need to do is just taking your runs off the pavement(人行道)and explore some hilly or mountainous trails. Trail running has gained popularity in recent years and offers a great way to connect with nature while getting a challenging workout.
Not adventurous enough for you? How about trying rock climbing? Climbers climb walls or natural rock formations, using their strength and problem-solving skills. There’s no age limit for this sport, and it can be a great way to build confidence and overcome fears. For example, Sarah, a young girl from a small town, started rock climbing at the age of 12 and has since fallen in love with the sport. She says. “Every time I reach the top of a climb, I feel a sense of success that’s hard to describe.”
Some people take their adventures to even greater heights by trying wingsuit flying. In this extreme sport, participants(参与者)wear a special suit that allows them to fly through the air like a bird. It requires a lot of training and courage, as there are significant risks involved. However, for those who show interest in it, there is no feeling like flying freely.
It seems that people are always coming up with new and exciting ways to challenge themselves and experience the excitement of adventure. Whether it’s paragliding, whitewater rafting, or even urban exploration, there’s something out there for everyone.
1.What can we learn from the passage about trail running?

Passage 3
Beach volleyball (沙滩排球) is one of those sports that can be an exciting game to play and watch. It’s really easy, and all you need is sand, a net and a group of people, of any age or fitness level, who want to have fun.
Beach volleyball can be played with as few as two people in each team, making a total of four people. However, if you are less skilled and experienced in the game, it will be easier to play with a larger team. The more players you have, the less ground each person will be responsible for covering and the more time they will have to recover between shots. If you only have a few players, each of you will get a lot of running for the ball after each volley (截球). If you are looking for a relaxing, fun, low-key experience, choose larger teams.
Beach volleyball is similar to regular volleyball in its rules. However, even experienced volleyball players do not realize how much more difficult it is to run and jump on sand. Since it is harder to move quickly on sand than a hard surface, play will be much slower than regular volleyball on a court. When an athlete trains for beach volleyball, he will focus on building lower body strength as well as upper body strength. Strengthening his legs is extremely important. This improves the player’s ability to move quickly and accurately on sand despite the resistance. The ability to jump high and land without injury is necessary for beach volleyball players.
Whether you are in it for the competition, or just to have a great time with your friends, beach volleyball can be extremely exciting and fun. You may start out with friends and may soon fall in love with the sport.
1.When you join a large beach volleyball team, you’ll ______.
A.have as many shots as possible B.improve your volleyball skills
C.be responsible for more ground D.feel light-hearted while playing
2.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Experienced volleyball players know clearly it is hard to run and jump on sand.
B.Lower body strength is more important than upper body strength.
C.A person must have strong legs if he wants to run and jump quickly on sand.
D.The rules of beach volleyball are the same as those of regular volleyball.
3.Why is playing beach volleyball much slower than playing regular volleyball?
A.Because it is not easy to move on sand.
B.Because beach volleyball has a larger court.
C.Because the teams of beach volleyball are larger.
D.Because it is a workout running for the ball.
4.What does the author think of beach volleyball?
A.It’s a difficult sport.
B.It’s an exciting and interesting sport.
C.It’s a sport which only a few people love.
D.It’s a sport which needs few skills.
5.The passage mainly tells us ______.
A.the game of beach volleyball
B.how to play beach volleyball well
C.how to become a good beach volleyball player
D.why beach volleyball is one of the exciting sports
Passage 4
With digital learning gaining popularity, some students choose to learn from home using computers and the Internet. They used websites and digital books instead of paper ones. But are they learning as well as they think?
Studies show that reading on paper is easier to understand than reading on a screen. Anne Mangen, a professor at the University of Stavanger in Norway, says reading on paper is calm and attracts our attention, unlike the reading on a screen.
Experts say that while screens are good for quick news, challenging texts are better on paper. They help us remember details better. A study by Lauren Singer Trakhman found that students understood the main ideas whether they read on paper or a screen, but they missed small details on screens. Reading on screens might make us read faster but not as deeply. Our brains might be getting used to quick information from digital media and not thinking carefully about what we read.
Some research shows that our brains respond differently to paper and screens. Reading on paper can make us feel more and understand the space around us better.
So what can we do? We shouldn't stop using screens, but we should think about what we read on them. Singer Trakhman says she uses her Kindle for fun but turns to paper for challenging literature (文学). To remember what we read on screens, we can try writing down the main points by hand. It might help us remember better than typing. And sometimes, turning off our devices and reading a real book can be very nice.
Digital texts, audio (音频) and video all have educational roles, especially when providing resources not available in print. However, in order to maximize (最大化) the learning effectiveness that require mental focus and reflection, educators should not believe that all media are the same, even if they contain the same words.
1.What does Anne Mangen think of reading on paper?
A.It offers a new lifestyle. B.It brings peaceful reading experience.
C.It is better for reading quick news. D.It helps improve speaking abilities.
2.Some students miss details when reading on screens because _________.
A.they do not respond differently B.texts on screens are less detailed
C.they do not think deeply enough D.screens make texts harder to read
3.What can be inferred from Lauren Singer Trakhman's reading habits?
A.She prefers using paper for serious reading. B.She thinks Kindles are easy to challenge.
C.She likes using Kindle for all reading. D.She hardly uses screens in reading.
4.What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A.Education loses its roles in learning.
B.All media are the same in education.
C.Students should use various learning methods.
D.Print texts can't be entirely replaced in education.
Passage 1
It’s common to hear that being “emotional” is opposite from being “rational (理性的)”. For many people, there is no place for emotion in rational thinking. However, some recent work from our lab suggests something opposite.
We found that individuals who score higher on tests of intelligence and rationality don’t ignore (忽略) emotions. Instead, they pay more attention to emotions and are better at recognizing and understanding emotions. This is because most intelligent decision-making requires emotional information. Emotions tell us what we want, and we can’t make smart decisions without first knowing what our goals are.
For example, as a mother, if I want to make my children happy, and I know they like video games, it would make sense for me to buy them a video game. But, if I instead want them to stay focused on homework, then it wouldn’t make sense for me to buy them the video game. You can see from this example that a rational decision can’t be made unless I know various pieces of emotional information.
Anticipating others’ emotions may help us be more effective leaders — allowing us to predict the way people will respond to what we say or do. Anticipating our own emotions can also make for much more effective long-term decisions. For example, if I predict I will feel anxious before giving a public speech, I might be inspired to practice a few more times. If I instead simply ignored my anxiety, chances are that I’d be more disturbed on stage, and my speech wouldn’t go smoothly.
Of course, it’s important to find out situations where emotional influences may not be helpful as well. Here, individuals who score higher on rationality tests may be better at reflecting on whether an emotion will be helpful or not in a given situation. They can then make their decision after giving it deeper consideration. For example, expressing too much anger or sadness to your boss when you don’t get an promotion (晋升) may not be in your best interest.
In general, if we want to be rational and make the best decisions, we should desire as much information as we can get — and information about emotions can often be especially useful.

Passage 1
Ten years ago, when asked about popular activities for fun, many people would say going to KTV or entertainment parks. However, young people now spend their free time at health clubs to experience Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices, such as acupuncture (针灸).
A survey in 2023 by China Youth Daily showed that 93.3% of 1,000 young people who took part had tried TCM. A TCM doctor named Ma Huifang said that many young people are coming to here for health problems like neck and back pain, and dry eyes, which used to be seniors' problems. These issues are becoming more and more common among young people because of bad lifestyles and too much stress. When choosing between Western medicine and TCM, young people like TCM better because it works well for their health problems. Some people say TCM is not scientific enough, but Ma thinks TCM is more accurate because it treats people based on their own needs.
TCM is becoming a big part of young people's lives. They are learning TCM skills to help themselves and others. Jin Ying, a 25-year-old student at Minzu University of China, is a fan of TCM. She learned acupuncture at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She even helped her roommate with sleeping problems.
Jin also follows the Five Elements theory (五行学说) in her daily life. In winter, she saves energy by not sweating too much during exercise because the cold of winter means people should slow down, according to TCM. For her, learning TCM skills and theories is not about becoming a TCM doctor but rather about embracing (拥抱) a new lifestyle and understanding Chinese culture.
Younger age groups are embracing TCM, and meanwhile TCM is also benefiting young people. As Jin noted, “It helps young people understand Chinese medicine and learn why it is believed to be a treasure of our Chinese culture.”
1.Why do young people prefer TCM practices according to the passage?
A.Because they can deal with more stress. B.Because they are effective for treatments.
C.Because they can change their bad lifestyles. D.Because they are cheaper and more common.
2.What does the underlined word “accurate” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Personalised. B.Balanced. C.Useful. D.Special.
3.Why does the writer mention Jin Ying?
A.To show Jin Ying's skills. B.To praise Jin Ying's kindness.
C.To explain the progress of TCM. D.To prove the acceptance of TCM.
4.What's the writer's attitude towards the trend of young people embracing TCM?
A.Uncertain. B.Doubtful. C.Positive. D.Negative.

Made-in-China products have made their mark during the Paris Olympics. According to the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, 80 percent of the Phryges, the mascots (吉祥物) of the Games, are produced in China. Chinese producers are also controlling the market for sports products such as cheering sticks and fan scarves.
The top quality of made-in-China products received an unexpected praise from a Western reporter covering the Games. The reporter, who still uses a backpack for reporters from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, thought highly of the product. His comments have led to great sales for the Chinese related products.
The Summer Olympics also saw fresh moves by several Chinese brands (品牌) to offer the world a taste of the rich Chinese culture. Last month, HEYTEA, a leading brand of Chinese new-style tea, made its Paris first appearance with a pop-up store designed as a traditional tea house. The store worked mainly to make Chinese tea culture known through creative tea drinks. China's fashionable toy maker Pop Mart opened a store by the famous Louvre Museum to share art and fun. “The Olympics is a good chance to show ourselves to the world.” said Gu Yujia, vice president of HEYTEA.“The sales are good and the buyers really like us.”
Chinese local governments are also strengthening their city-branding efforts this year, which marks the 60th year of the building of diplomatic (外交的) relations between China and France, as well as the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism.
Guizhou, a beautiful province in southwest China that gained much attention in the sports world with exciting football games played by villagers, held an eye-catching photo exhibition at some subway stations in Paris.
“Walking in Paris, one can run into China countless times,” the country's tourism office in Paris said.

Passage 1
Good relationship are definitely good sources of happiness in life. We all want happy relationships but if we do not keep that relationship alive, it can also be one of the most distraught things in life. There may be no hard and fast rules in making good relationships, as each of us has different preferences and points of view as to what is a great relationship. The following are some major key players in making relationships work.
It is often said that building good relationship is all about communication. Good communication indeed governs a good relationship — knowing the right thing to say, when to say it, how to say it, and accepting some things that are better left unsaid. I personally think communication must be broadened because relationships involve more decisions to make. From study to work, from money to entertainment and even in things about yourself or about your friends that you do not know, communication is necessary in these aspects of the relationships.
Of course, being with someone is not saying that you totally agree with him or her all the time. You and your friends come from different family backgrounds, raised in different environment so there may be disagreement here and there. However, it is important in making relationship work to express disagreements without pushing the relationship to end. Again, good communication and learning to compromise (妥协) at times are necessary.
As relationships last longer, you may also discover things about you and your friends that you may not have known before. Therefore supporting each other on both your “hidden selves” can also make a good relationship.
Love is an important aspect of building relationships and for me, I always believe that love needs open communication, respect, support and understanding each other in making relationships work.
1.The underlined word “distraught” in Paragraph 1 probably means _____.
A.Funny B.Upset C.Interesting D.Surprising
2.To communicate well with people, you should know that _____.
A.a white lie is necessary sometimes
B.compromises are necessary at any time
C.your friends need to have the same backgrounds with you
D.supporting each other in anything helps build a good relationship
3.According to the text, which of the following are NOT important for a good relationship?
A.Love. B.Support. C.Communication. D.Hidden selves.
4.What would be the best title for the text?
A.The Importance to Express Disagreements B.Different Opinions on Good Relationships
C.Keys to Making Relationships Work D.Forbidden Rules in Building Good Relationships
Passage 2
The Yerkes-Dodson Law, proposed by psychologists Robert Yerkes and John Dodson in 1908, explores the relationship between motivation intensity and task performance. Its core insight is that this relationship follows an inverted U-shaped curve: performance improves with increasing motivation up to a certain point, after which excessive motivation leads to a decline.
For simple or well-practiced tasks, a higher level of motivation tends to enhance performance. For example, routine data entry benefits from strong focus driven by high motivation. In contrast, complex tasks requiring creativity or problem-solving — such as scientific research or artistic creation — peak at moderate motivation. Too much pressure here can trigger anxiety, impairing cognitive flexibility.
Notably, individual differences matter. Factors like experience, personality, and task familiarity shift the optimal motivation level. A seasoned athlete might thrive under intense pressure in a championship, while a novice could crumble.
This law has practical implications. Educators can adjust teaching pressure based on task difficulty, and managers can tailor motivation strategies to task complexity. Recognizing this balance helps individuals and organizations optimize performance by aligning motivation with challenge.
1.What is the core idea of the Yerkes-Dodson Law?
A.Higher motivation always leads to better performance.
B.Motivation and performance have an inverted U-shaped relationship.
C.Simple tasks require lower motivation than complex ones.
D.Individual differences have no influence on task performance.
2.For which task would high motivation be most helpful?
A.Writing a creative story
B.Conducting a scientific experiment
C.Doing routine office filing
D.Designing a new product
3.Why does excessive motivation harm performance in complex tasks?
A.It reduces focus on details.
B.It causes anxiety and limits cognitive flexibility.
C.It makes people ignore individual differences.
D.It leads to overconfidence in problem-solving.
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Novice athletes perform best under high pressure.
B.The optimal motivation level is the same for all people.
C.Educators can use the law to adjust teaching methods.
D.Complex tasks benefit more from high motivation than simple ones.

Passage 1
Angus, Doris, Gabriel and Kamil are some of the 21 names that have been chosen to be given to storms in the UK in the 2016/17 season.
The Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, decided to give storms boys’ and girls’ names in 2015 in the same way as they did in America.
The Met Office hopes that naming big storms will mean people are more aware (意识到) of them and how dangerous they can be. Derrick Ryall, from the Met Office, said, “We have seen how naming storms elsewhere in the world raises people’s awareness of storms before they break.”
In the past, the same UK storm could be given different names by different organizations. “We noticed that many organizations during the last couple of winters, when we have had bad storms, started giving names to them. Think back to the St Jude’s Day storm in 2013, and the so-called Hurricane Bawbag in Scotland in 2011. But it led to confusion (混乱),” a Met Office spokeswoman said.
According to the Met Office, there is a name for each letter of the whole alphabet (字母表), except for Q, U, X, Y and Z. That is the same as the naming tradition used in America. And not all storms will be big enough to get names— only those expected to cause great damage.
If there are more than 21 storms in a year, the Met Office will start again with another name beginning with “A”. However, according to Met Office spokeswoman Lindsay Mears, “It’s unlikely we would get through the whole alphabet in one season. We had 14 storms in the very bad winter of 2013/14, and if the naming system had been in operation then we wouldn’t have used the whole alphabet.”
1.Why are storms in the UK named?
A.To remind people of their short stay. B.To increase public awareness of them.
C.To follow what other countries did. D.To meet the needs of its people.
2.Examples are given in Paragraph 4 to show ______.
A.there’re many storms to name in a year
B.some storms’ names are similar to others’
C.some storms’ names are hard to understand
D.organizations named storms differently
3.What do we know about the names given to storms?
A.21 letters will be used to begin the names.
B.Storms will be given names whatever their sizes.
C.Serious storms will be given boys’ names.
D.21 names will be given at most in a year.
4.What can be learned from Lindsay Mears?
A.There are not too many big storms each year.
B.Action will be taken to prevent storms.
C.There are usually 14 storms in a year.
D.The naming system will not change.
Passage 2
Over millions of years, humans have responded to certain situations without thinking too hard. If our ancestors spotted movement in the nearby forest, they would run first and question later. At the same time, the ability to analyze and to plan is part of what separates us from other animals. The question of when to trust your instinct (直觉) and when to think slow matters in the office as much as in the savannah (草原).
Slow thinking is the feature of a well-managed workplace. Yet instinct also has its place. Some decisions are more connected to emotional responses and less to analysis. In demanding customer-service or public-facing situations, instinct is often a better guide to how to behave.
Instinct can also be improved. Plenty of research has shown that instinct becomes more accurate with experience. In one well-known experiment, volunteers were asked to assess whether a selection of designer handbags were real or not. Some were instructed to operate on instinct and others to deliberate (深思熟虑) over their decision. Instinct worked better for those who owned at least three designer handbags; indeed, it outperformed analysis. The more expert you become, the better your instinct tends to be.
However, the real reason to embrace fast thinking is that it is, well, fast. It is often the only way to get through the day. To take one example, when your inbox floods with new emails at the start of a new day, there is completely no way to read them all carefully. Instinct is what helps you decide which ones to answer and which to remove or leave unopened. Fast thinking can also help the entire organization. The value of many managerial decisions lies in the simple fact that they have been made at all. Yet as data explodes, the temptation (诱惑) to ask for one more bit of analysis has become much harder to resist. Managers often suffer from overthinking, turning a simple problem into a complex one.
When to use instinct in the workplace rests on its own form of pattern recognition. Does the decision-maker have real expertise in this area? Is this a field in which emotion matters more than reasoning? Above all, is it worth putting the decision off? Slow thinking is needed to get the big calls right. But fast thinking is the way to stop deliberation turning to a waste of time.
1.How does Paragraph 3 mainly develop?
A.By example. B.By comparison. C.By process. D.By classification.
2.Which of the following situation may be suitable for the people to trust their instinct?
A.People choose one job among three.
B.The time window of making decision is unlimited.
C.The customer gets cross for uncertain reasons.
D.Anew product designed for teenagers is under discussion.
3.What does the underlined word “embrace” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Include. B.Hug. C.Improve. D.Accept.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Managers can afford the cost of slow thinking.
B.Fast thinking can be a push to work efficiency.
C.Slow thinking will hold us back in the long run.
D.Too much data is to blame for wrong decisions.

Passage 3
Tai chi, a traditional, slow-moving form of Chinese physical exercise, is known to increase flexibility and improve balance. New research has been conducted to determine whether tai chi has an influence on lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension
In the study, Chinese scientists put 342 adults with prehypertension into two groups. The average age of people taking part in the study was 49. About half the participants (参与者) took part in aerobic exercise, including jogging, climbing stairs and cycling. The other half was trained to practice tai chi. Both groups got hour-long exercises four times a week.
Nearly 22% of the people who practiced tai chi saw their blood pressure fall to be normal, compared with nearly 16% of people in the aerobic exercise group. And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop high blood pressure than patients in the aerobic exercise group.
So what is it about tai chi that helps lower blood pressure? “The practice tends to get more of a response from the parasympathetic (副交感的) nervous system, which is the network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger,” says Ruth Taylor-Piliae, a professor at the University of Arizona’s College of Nursing.
“I think the beauty of tai chi is that you don’t have to have a special gym membership, you don’t have to have special clothing, ” Taylor-Piliae says. “Once you learn tai chi, you can do it anytime and anyplace. And it does provide a calming and relaxing effect. ”
Evidence suggests it can also help protect against cognitive fall and even improve memory. But you have to practice it continually to get the most benefit.
1.What is the function of paragraph 1?
A.To offer some examples. B.To explain a definition.
C.To introduce the topic. D.To give people suggestions.
2.What can we know about the participants in the study?
A.They were divided into two groups. B.They suffered from heart disease.
C.They were 49 years old. D.They got exercises five times a week.
3.What might Taylor-Piliae agree with about tai chi?
A.It can make people calm down.
B.It requires training and specialized equipment.
C.It has no influence on the parasympathetic nervous system.
D.It is suitable for individuals with aerobic exercise experience.
4.Why might tai chi be a preferred exercise for people with prehypertension?
A.It is more physically demanding than aerobic exercise.
B.It can be done anywhere without special equipment.
C.It requires a gym membership.
D.It is a high-impact exercise.
5.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.A Traditional Sport B.The Benefits of Aerobic Exercise
C.Exploring Chinese Physical Exercise D.Managing Blood Pressure with Tai Chi

Passage 2
While parents and educators worry that children have been doing too little exercise, a sixth grade class from the Chaoyang School of the High School in Beijing finished their 100th 5-kilometer morning jogging program on Saturday to celebrate their upcoming graduation.
The program, initiated in September 2021 by the class’s parent association, aims to improve students’ physical fitness, perseverance, and endurance. Despite it being difficult at first, students have consistently participated for three years.
To enhance their physical fitness, the program is organized every Saturday morning with the guidance of a parent who is selected to be the coach. This practice has not only improved the students’ physical health but also promoted a sense of teamwork among them.
National surveys have shown a rapid increase of obesity among children and adolescents (青少年) across the country. Besides weight problems, lack of exercise also leads to the prevalence of myopia (近视) at school.
Realizing the possible link between decreasing physical activity and rising health concerns, a series of measures have been released to increase their exercise time.
The sixth grade jogging program may provide a solution to help students find time among heavy learning burdens and common electronic screens to experience health and happiness through physical activity.
1.Why did the sixth-grade class complete their 100th 5-kilometer morning jog?
A.To win a competition. B.To prepare for a marathon.

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.C

Welcome to your freshman year of high school! Junior high is behind you, and now you enter a whole new world. But what should you expect about your freshman year of high school?
High schools are usually larger than any other school you’ve ever attended. Often, they seem to require a GPS to get from place to place. As a result, it’s important to take orientation days (迎新日) seriously. Take your schedule and walk it a few times before the first day of school. The more you know going in, the faster you’ll feel comfortable.

When you went from 6th grade to middle school, you found your coursework become more difficult. Your coursework will greatly increase, and expectations (期待) from your teachers will be much greater than before. You’ll have more homework, more papers, and harder exams. So learning how to study well is very important in high school.

【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.D
根据划线词前文“There are a few benefits to users from the cloud besides giving you peace of mind if you lose your phone.(如果你丢了手机,除了让你安心之外,云服务还为用户带来了一些好处)”及划线词后文的“your data anytime, anywhere if you’re connected to the Internet.(如果你连接到互联网,随时随地……你的数据)”可推知,access the data表示“访问数据”,access表示“得到”,与get意思相近。故选A项。
根据文章第二段“You’ve probably heard of the two biggest names in the market, Amazon Web Services, known as AWS, and Microsoft Azure, IBM, Google and Alibaba are also big players when it comes to providing cloud services.(你可能听说过市场上最大的两家公司,亚马逊网络服务公司(AWS)和微软Azure,在提供云服务方面,IBM、谷歌和阿里巴巴也是大公司)”可知,阿里巴巴提供云服务。故选B项。

And cloud providers are cashing in.(许多云服务基于订阅定价模型。
根据文章第一段“There are a few benefits to users from the cloud besides giving you peace of mind if you lose your phone.(如果你丢了手机,除了让你安心之外,云服务还为用户带来了一些好处)”及文章倒数第三段“Before we get too excited about the cloud, let’s take a step back and look at some of the risks.(在我们对云服务过于兴奋之前,让我们回过头来看看其中的一些风险)”全文内容可知,本文介绍了云服务的优点和缺点。故选D项。
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.C
根据第三段“There are several reasons for this change. One major factor is the use of alternative(可替代的)communication. In addition, social media platforms and video conferencing tools have made it easier to stay connected with people in different ways.(这种变化有几个原因。一个主要因素是使用替代通信。即时通讯应用程序可以发送文本、图像、视频,甚至语音信息,提供了一种更方便、更灵活的沟通方式。此外,社交媒体平台和视频会议工具使人们更容易以不同的方式与人保持联系。)”可知,人们打电话的次数减少了是因为现在有很多其他的交流方式。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Professor John Doe, an expert in communication studies, said, ‘The reduction of phone calls means we are losing a form of communication that was once very important for building relationships and keeping social connections. We need to find new ways to reconnect and communicate in a meaningful way.’(传播学专家约翰·多伊教授说:‘电话的减少意味着我们正在失去一种曾经对建立人际关系和保持社会联系非常重要的沟通方式。我们需要找到新的方式,以一种有意义的方式重新联系和沟通。’)”可知,更少的电话通话会对我们的社会联系有坏的影响。故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Of course, technology is always changing, and we must get used to these changes. While the disappearance of phone call culture may have its disadvantages, it also creates opportunities for new forms of communication and connection.(当然,技术总是在变化,我们必须适应这些变化。虽然电话文化的消失可能有其不利之处,但它也为新的交流和联系形式创造了机会。)”可知,作者对电话文化的变化持有客观的态度。故选A。
根据第一段“But have you noticed how our usage of certain devices(设备)has changed over time? Let’s take smartphones as an example. How often do we really use them for their original intended purpose: making calls? It seems that the culture of using phones for calling is gradually disappearing. What has caused this change, and what are the results?(但是你有没有注意到我们对某些设备的使用是如何随着时间的推移而变化的?让我们以智能手机为例。我们有多少次真正使用它们来实现它们最初的目的:打电话?似乎用手机打电话的文化正在逐渐消失。是什么导致了这种变化,结果是什么?)”可知,本文介绍电话文化消失的原因和影响。故选C。

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.B

【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.D
根据第二段“Anne Mangen, a professor at the University of Stavanger in Norway, says reading on paper is calm and attracts our attention, unlike the reading on a screen. (挪威斯塔万格大学的教授安妮·曼根表示,与在屏幕上阅读不同,在纸上阅读很平静,而且能吸引我们的注意力)”可知,纸质书更能让我们静下心来阅读。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“A study by Lauren Singer Trakhman found that students understood the main ideas whether they read on paper or a screen, but they missed small details on screens. Reading on screens might make us read faster but not as deeply. Our brains might be getting used to quick information from digital media and not thinking carefully about what we read.(劳伦·辛格·特拉克曼(Lauren Singer Trakhman)的一项研究发现,无论是在纸上阅读还是在屏幕上阅读,学生都能理解主要思想,但他们会错过屏幕上的一些小细节。在屏幕上阅读可能会让我们读得更快,但读得不够深入。我们的大脑可能已经习惯了来自数字媒体的快速信息,而没有仔细思考我们所阅读的内容)”可知,学生在屏幕上阅读时会错过细节是因为他们没有深入思考。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段 Singer Trakhman says she uses her Kindle for fun but turns to paper for challenging literature 故选A。
根据文章最后一段“Digital texts, audio (音频) and video all have educational roles, especially when providing resources not available in print. However, in order to maximize (最大化) the learning effectiveness that require mental focus and reflection, educators should not believe that all media are the same, even if they contain the same words.(数字文本、音频和视频都具有教育作用,特别是在提供印刷版无法获得的资源时。然而,为了使需要精神集中和反思的学习效果最大化,教育者不应该认为所有的媒体都是一样的,即使它们包含相同的单词)”可推知,作者在最后一段暗示纸质阅读在教育中的重要性,暗示纸质文本不能完全被取代。故选D。

1.What is a widespread opinion about emotions and rationality?
A.Rationality can develop emotional intelligence.
B.Emotions help to make rational decisions.
C.They play opposite roles in thinking processes.
D.Rationality is more important than emotions in decision-making.
2.Why does the author mention the example in Paragraph 3?
A.To show the process of decision-making.
B.To tell us the harm of ignoring emotions.
C.To draw the line between rationality and emotions.
D.To show the importance of emotional information.
3.What should be done to make the best of emotions according to Paragraph 5?
A.Recognizing their usefulness. B.Reflecting on the possible effect.
C.Completing the rationality tests. D.Thinking about various situations.
4.What does the author suggest for making wise decisions?
A.Gaining enough information. B.Putting rationality at the first place.
C.Trusting direct feelings. D.Seeking expert advice.
5.What is the best title for this passage?
A.How to Control Emotions for Better Decision-Making
B.The Role of Emotions in Effective Leadership
C.Why Ignoring Emotions Leads to Smarter Decisions
D.Balancing Emotional and Rational Thinking in Decision-Making
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.A 5.D

根据第一段中“It’s common to hear that being “emotional” is opposite from being “rational (理性的)”. For many people, there is no place for emotion in rational thinking. (我们经常听到“情绪的”和“理性的”是对立的。对许多人来说,理性思维中没有情感的位置)”可知,关于情感和理性的普遍观点是,它们在思维过程中扮演相反的角色。故选C项。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段“For example, as a mother, if I want to make my children happy, and I know they like video games, it would make sense for me to buy them a video game. But, if I instead want them to stay focused on homework, then it wouldn’t make sense for me to buy them the video game. You can see from this example that a rational decision can’t be made unless I know various pieces of emotional information.
根据第五段中“Of course, it’s important to find out situations where emotional influences may not be helpful as well. Here, individuals who score higher on rationality tests may be better at reflecting on whether an emotion will be helpful or not in a given situation. They can then make their decision after giving it deeper consideration. (当然,重要的是要找出情绪影响可能没有帮助的情况。在这里,在理性测试中得分较高的人可能更善于反思一种情感在特定情况下是否有用。然后,他们可以在深入考虑后做出决定)”可知,在某些情况下,情感可能没有用,这就需要反思情感在特定情况下的可能效果,然后再做决定。因此,为了充分利用情感,我们应该反思其可能产生的影响。故选B项。
4.细节理解题。根据最后一段“In general, if we want to be rational and make the best decisions, we should desire as much information as we can get — and information about emotions can often be especially useful. (总的来说,如果我们想要理性并做出最好的决定,我们应该尽可能多地获取信息——而关于情绪的信息往往特别有用)”可知,作者建议获得足够的信息来做出明智的决定。故选A项。

B.Doubtful. C.Positive. D.Negative.

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.C
根据第一段“Good relationship are definitely good sources of happiness in life. We all want happy relationships but if we do not keep that relationship alive(良好的人际关系绝对是生活中快乐的源泉。我们都想要快乐的关系,但如果我们不能保持这种关系)”可知,不能保持愉快的人际关系可能会给生活带来不良后果,使人不愉快,因此划线词所在句子表示“我们都想要快乐的关系,但如果我们不能保持这种关系,它也可能成为生活中最令人心烦意乱的事情之一”,划线词distraught的意思是“令人不愉快的,令人心烦意乱的”,和upset意思相近。故选B。
2.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Good communication indeed governs a good relationship — knowing the right thing to say, when to say it, how to say it, and accepting some things that are better left unsaid.(良好的沟通确实能管理一段良好的关系——知道该说什么,什么时候说,怎么说,并接受一些最好不说的事情。)”
根据第二段中“Good communication indeed governs a good relationship(良好的沟通确实能管理一段良好的关系)”,第四段中“Therefore supporting each other on both your “hidden selves” can also make a good relationship.(因此,相互支持彼此的“隐藏的自我”也可以建立良好的关系。)”和最后一段“Love is an important aspect of building relationships and for me, I always believe that love needs open communication, respect, support and understanding each other in making relationships work.(爱是建立关系的一个重要方面,对我来说,我一直相信爱需要开放的沟通、尊重、支持和相互理解,才能使关系正常运转。)”
根据第一段中“The following are some major key players in making relationships work.(以下是维系人际关系的一些关键因素。)” 。故选C。
根据第一段中的“Its core insight is that this relationship follows an inverted U-shaped curve: performance improves with increasing motivation up to a certain point, after which excessive motivation leads to a decline. (其核心观点是,这种关系遵循倒U形曲线:表现随着动机的增加而提高,直到达到一定程度,之后过度动机会导致表现下降。)”可知,耶基斯 - 多德森定律的核心观点是动机和表现呈倒U形关系。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“For simple or well-practiced tasks, a higher level of motivation tends to enhance performance. For example, routine data entry benefits from strong focus driven by high motivation. (对于简单或熟练的任务,较高的动机水平往往会提高表现。例如,常规的数据录入受益于高动机带来的高度专注。)”可知,做常规的办公室归档工作属于简单或熟练的任务,高动机对此最有帮助。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据第二段“In contrast, complex tasks requiring creativity or problem-solving — such as scientific research or artistic creation—peak at moderate motivation. Too much pressure here can trigger anxiety, impairing cognitive flexibility. (相比之下,需要创造力或解决问题的复杂任务,如科学研究或艺术创作,在适度动机时达到最佳状态。这里压力过大会引发焦虑,损害认知灵活性。)”可知,在复杂任务中,过度动机会引发焦虑,损害认知灵活性,从而影响表现,故选B。
4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“This law has practical implications. Educators can adjust teaching pressure based on task difficulty, and managers can tailor motivation strategies to task complexity. (这个定律有实际意义。教育者可以根据任务难度调整教学压力,管理者可以根据任务复杂程度定制动机策略。)”可知,教育者可以利用这个定律调整教学方法。故选C。

【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.A
根据第三段的“The Met Office hopes that naming big storms will mean people are more aware of them and how dangerous they can be.(英国气象局希望给大风暴命名能让人们更加意识到它们的危险性。)”
根据第四段的“In the past, the same UK storm could be given different names by different organizations.(在过去,同一场英国风暴可能会被不同的组织命名。) ”可知,不同组织对风暴的命名不同。故选D。
3.细节理解题。根据第五段的“According to the Met Office, there is a name for each letter of the whole alphabet, except for Q,U,X,Y and Z.(根据英国气象局的说法,除了Q、U、X、Y和Z,整个字母表中的每个字母都有一个名字。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段的“However, according to Met Office spokeswoman Lindsay Mears, It’s unlikely we would get through the whole alphabet in one season.(然而,英国气象局发言人林赛·米尔斯表示:我们不太可能在一季内完成整个字母表。)” 故选A。
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.B
根据文章第三段“In one well-known experiment, volunteers were asked to assess whether a selection of designer handbags were real or not. Some were instructed to operate on instinct and others to deliberate (深思熟虑) over their decision. Instinct worked better for those who owned at least three designer handbags; indeed, it outperformed analysis. The more expert you become, the better your instinct tends to be. (在一个著名的实验中,志愿者被要求评估所选的名牌手袋是否真实。一些人被指示凭直觉行事,另一些人则仔细考虑他们的决定。直觉对那些至少拥有三个名牌手袋的人更有效;事实上,它的表现超过了分析。你变得越专业,你的直觉就会越好。)”可知,本段通过举实验例子的方式来说明直觉随着经验而变得更加准确,导致本能的提高。故选A。
根据文章第二段“Some decisions are more connected to emotional responses and less to analysis. In demanding customer-service or public-facing situations, instinct is often a better guide to how to behave. (有些决策与情绪反应联系更紧密,与分析联系更少。在要求客户服务或面对公众的情况下,本能往往是如何表现的更好指南。)”可知,本能可以用来为客户服务,因此,当客户因为不确定的原因而生气时,可以凭借本能来解决问题。故选C。
3.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“It is often the only way to get through the day. To take one example, when your inbox floods with new emails at the start of a new day, there is completely no way to read them all carefully. Instinct is what helps you decide which ones to answer and which to remove or leave unopened. (这通常是度过一天的唯一方法。举个例子,当你的收件箱在新的一天开始时被新邮件淹没,你完全没有办法仔细阅读它们。本能能帮助你决定回答哪些问题,把哪些移开或不打开。)”可知,此处表示快速思考可以帮助快速处理事情,因此,我们应该接受它,embrace表示“接受”,与accept意思相近。故选D。
4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Slow thinking is needed to get the big calls right. But fast thinking is the way to stop deliberation turning to a waste of time. (要想做出正确的决定,需要缓慢的思考。但快速思考是阻止思考变成浪费时间的方法。)”可知,快速思考能帮助避免浪费时间的思考,因此,它能提高工作效率。故选B。

1.C 2.A 3.A 4.B 5.D

Passage 2
