Whitechapel Gallery has long played an important role in providing access to art for its nearby community and beyond. As well as education projects, every summer the Children’s Commission challenges an artist to create new works to specifically engage with children aged 4 to 12. It is the Crib Notes session that makes it stand out from the crowd, but advanced booking is a must.
Tate Modern
Tate Modern is a fantastic option for art-loving parents who are seeking to introduce their children to modern art in a relaxing and inspiring environment. For families with younger children, the Turbine Hall provides a welcome space. For those seeking a more organized visit, there are various activities during weekends and school holidays.
SPACE
Established in the 1960s, SPACE manages to focus on providing affordable creative workspace for young promising artists. The main gallery is a casual fair, making it less of a gallery and more of a great local option for families who want to see what’s on offer on their way to or from nearby London Fields.

Art and cultural historian Dr. Andrew Lear suggests a hotel with historical significance. “I highly recommend The Shelbourne, where Oscar Wilde stayed on a speaking tour in Dublin.”

Each US university and college sets its own admission standards and decides which applicants meet those standards. But the steps are the same for each. Here are Some of the major steps you will follow:
Timing
Universities and colleges in the US usually offer two main academic terms: Spring terms run from January to May and fall terms run from mid-August or September to December. While each US university and college will have different dates for applying to programs, application submissions are usually open and accepted 10 months before the program starts.
Application
Each institution has its own application form, and all US universities which accept international students give you the option to apply online. Keep in mind that almost all US institutions have an application fee.
Take admissions tests
Students applying to universities and colleges in the US must take certain examinations (SAT, ACT, GMAT, etc.) that measure achievement. International students must also take a test that measures English language proficiency. These tests are given at test centers around the world. They are “standardized”, so that students take the same test at every test center. Your scores give the admissions office a uniform international standard for measuring your ability in comparison with other students.
Receive acceptance letters
After the application deadline, you will begin receiving letters from your chosen schools. Some universities inform candidates of their acceptance soon after their documents have arrived in the admissions office; this is called “rolling admissions”. Other schools, however, wait several months and inform all candidates at one time.
1.What can we learn about application?
A.It has to be submitted in person ahead of time.
B.There is a commonly-used application form.
C.One will be charged for his/her application.
D.It is still available when the program starts.
2.What should a Japanese student do if he/she wants to apply to US colleges?
A.Excel in English.
B.Sit the test in US.
C.Volunteer at test centers.
D.Get good grades at home.
3.Which section of a newspaper is this text most likely taken from?
A.Culture. B.Campus.

Natural Disasters
Big waves, huge eruptions and ice-cold winds-these are just a few things that happen naturally and can quickly turn into a disaster! Understanding these disasters can help us stay safe and prepared. Let’s explore some of these natural disasters!
Volcanic Eruption
Think about a mountain with an opening at the top through which hot molten (熔化的) rock, gas, steam, and ash burst (爆发). That’s a volcanic eruption! People living close to volcanoes must always be prepared in case of an eruption. This is so they can get away and stay safe from hot lava running down it. Volcanic eruptions can also help to make new land if it happens under the sea.
Tsunami
Have you ever been to the beach and seen really big waves? Now think about those waves being up to 20 times bigger-that is how big tsunami’s waves can be! These waves are caused by an earthquake that happens under the sea. They are very fast and strong and can wash people and buildings away.
Blizzards
A blizzard is a weather event that includes low temperatures, strong winds and heavy snowfall. These weather conditions result in car accidents and people on foot can get lost. Additionally, these colder temperatures put people at risk of frostbite or hypothermia.
Droughts
When it does not rain for a very very long time, it can cause a drought. In some areas, the soil becomes very dry and even the plants do not have water. This is bad because all living things like plants, people and animals need water to live.
Nature is full of interesting things, and learning about them means we can be prepared if we find ourselves in one of them.

A.Culture. B.Campus.
C.Entertainment. D.Life.

2.细节理解题。根据White Bear(Poland)部分的“In Poland swimming lessons are not compulsory, but most of the schools have them.(在波兰,游泳课不是必修课,但大多数学校都有。)”可知,游泳课在波兰不是必修课,但大多数学校都有。故选A。
3.推理判断题。根据Yunzhang(China)部分的“Swimming is an essential life-saving skill that everyone should have access to. The earlier, the better. The government needs to put money into the popularity of the sport.(游泳是每个人都应该掌握的一项重要的救生技能。越早越好。政府需要为这项运动的普及投入资金。)”可知,Yunzhang认为政府应该尽早普及游泳课并进行投资,说明Yunzhang对游泳课的提议持积极的态度。故选B。
