Timeline: From February to March, various institutions will be hosting regional science bowls, where the winner will advance to the national competition held in Washington D.C. in late April - May.

The course is designed to look at the science of sports from a chemical biological point of view. We will be able to use our own bodies to see how exercise affects the system. MISE
Minority Introduction to Science and Engineering (MISE) is a six-week academic program for about 80 promising high school students who tend to pursue careers in science and engineering especially those from minority backgrounds and other underrepresented groups of the population. The program is free of charge to participating students, not including transportation.
RSO
Research Science Organization (RSO) gathers about 70 high school students each summer for six weeks at MIT. This academic program stresses advanced theory and research in mathematics, science, and engineering. Participants attend college-level classes taught by distinguished professors and complete hands-on research. Open to high school juniors.
WSP
Women’s Science Program (WSP) is a four-week summer academic and residential experience during which 60 female high school students explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects in the summer after their junior year.
STP
The Summer Technology Program (STP)co-sponsored by MIT is not on campus, and many MIT students are among the program’s alumni (校友). The course is organized around a central 1research project in either astrophysics (天体物理学) or biochemistry. In the astrophysics program, students will determine the orbit of a minor planet near the earth from direct astronomical observations. In the biochemistry program, each team will design a small molecule to lower an enzyme (酶) from a fungal crop pathogen. The programs are six weeks long and offered at locations in Colorado, New Mexico, and Indiana.

Seaweed Smackdown
Hot ocean temperatures can contribute greatly to seaweed growth, which affects the biodiversity (生物多样化) of the coral reef. That’s not good for a reef. So, in Hawaii, scientists have used an underwater device to suck up lots of seaweed into its long tube. In Australia, scientists are studying a low-tech solution: pulling seaweed by hand.
Underwater Nurseries
Some polyps (珊瑚虫) are harmed by heat waves and pollution. Scientists cut parts of coral from a healthy reef. Then these polyps are taken to a nursery, which could be in shallow protected areas underwater. After about a year, the healthy coral parts are attached to damaged reefs. The nursery-grown corals can bring new life to a struggling habitat.
Sound Saver
Healthy reefs are noisy. Fish make different sounds, and thousands of shrimp create and pop bubbles with their claws to create a sound. The biologists play sounds of healthy reefs through underwater speakers. They found that six weeks of broadcasting healthy reef sounds doubled the amount of fish in the area.
Algae Partner
Most coral species survive by partnering with tiny algae (藻类), which make food for the coral by changing sunlight into sugar. Biologists have discovered that many corals in the Red Sea have a species of algae in their tissue that’s found nowhere else, so they can survive heat waves. Biologists hope their work will inspire governments and environmental groups to protect these corals.

Most coral species survive by partnering with tiny algae (藻类), which make food for the coral by changing sunlight into sugar.
