For years, I went to school by bus, so I met many “familiar (熟悉的)” strangers. We took the same bus but didn’t know each other’s names. I used to think it was impossible for us to be true friends. How wrong I was! Smiles from the “nameless” people have changed my thoughts.
The first time on the bus, I saw different faces, we met, greeted, and cold faces turned into smiling faces. As days went on, we chatted like old friends.
But I felt it a pity that I was unable to set up the same friendship with a silent girl in front of the bus. Her old clothing suggested (暗示) that she didn’t have much money, but she always took a glass of water for the driver. I guessed she was a kind girl. But why did she sit in silence instead of talking with us? Why did she never reply to our friendly greetings? Couldn’t she smile?
Then, one evening, I got the answer. I walked to the park nearby and found the girl sitting alone under a tree, lonely and sad. I greeted her with the same warm smile that I had shown to her all these months, but this time her face turned red with a shy smile. As soon as she began her first words, I understood why she hadn’t spoken to us before. Talking was hard for her.
I learned her story. Her parents worked hard somewhere. She lived with her disabled grandparents. She said, “I can’t express myself very well. Most of the time, I can’t say what I want to say. I have no friends but … You always smile at me like an angel … so I also want to smile.”
That evening, we exchanged our names, and we said goodbye like old friends. A smile is the key to opening the door of the heart; it can break the cold walls in front of us.

Jimmy: I’m a student. I hate talking about my feelings, but sometimes it really hurts to keep all my bad feelings inside. A few people say I can talk to them about anything. But whenever I tell anyone about my problems, it makes me think that I’m sharing a vulnerable (脆弱的) side of me. I keep thinking about what the other person thinks of me. What can I do?
Luna: I know how that feels, Jimmy. I once almost reached breaking point with all my feelings kept inside. One day, I talked to a friend. After talking with her, I was worried. I thought she would laugh at me. However, in the following days, she treated me the same, and I knew it was OK to open up to someone sometimes.
Susan: Whenever I hear someone say “I don’t want to trouble others with my bad feelings.”, I feel very sorry for them. Sharing feelings is important to everyone.

第三节 语法填空(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,在空格处填入一个适当的词或填入括号中单词的正确形式。
I still remembered the first day I met Jane. When she 66 (walk) into the classroom, all the students were very surprised 67 (see) that there was a big red birthmark on her face. Jane didn’t care at all although some bad boys laughed at 68 (she). Instead, she was always 69 (smile).
I wanted to know why Jane could always be so happy. So one day, I went to her and asked if she knew there was a red birthmark on her face. She replied that of course she knew. Whenever she looked 70 the mirror, she could see it.
“Then how can you live happily all the time? Don’t you think 71 mark makes you strange?” I asked.
“No, actually, the mark makes me special. I always tell 72 (oneself) that I have no way to decide what I look like, 73 I can decide what I want to be. I’m much luckier than those that can’t walk or run. At least I’m a healthy person,” Jane answered with a smile.
Jane’s words opened a new world for me. At that moment, I understood the world 74 (well) than before. If the world is looked from a very bright way, some bad things will be good 75 (gift).
【答案】66. walked 67. to see 68. her 69. smiling 70. in 71. the
72. myself 73. but 74. better 75. gifts

66. walked 前文“remembered”和“met”表明时态为一般过去时,空格处动词需用过去式;“walk”的过去式是“walked”,符合整体时态逻辑。
67. to see “be surprised to do sth.”
70. in “look in the mirror”是固定短语,意为“照镜子”;空格处填介词“in”,符合日常表达搭配。
