Passage 1
The aim of students who came to school is to study. But to study requires a right way, or you waste either the time or the money. The following are the ways of studying.
The best time for reading is morning, because in the morning, the air is fresh and the mind is clear. For that reason, we can get good results.
In studying we must have patience. If we have not known a text well, we must read it again. We should not read the next one till we have learned the first one.
When we are studying, we must put our hearts into the book, or we can get nothing from the book while we are reading.
We must always ask “whys”. If it is not well understood, write it down and ask our teachers or our parents, or friends. In any possible way, we must know it completely and what we’ve learned can be used well and made better.
Though there are many ways for studying, yet the above mentioned will be quite enough if we can keep them in heart and do so.
1.The passage tells us ________.

Passage 2
Hi! My name is Adam and I’m a freshman at senior high school. Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The first week was a little confusing.
First, I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones: maths, English, chemistry, world history, and Chinese. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to be fluent when I graduate. My adviser recommended that I should sign up for advanced literature because I like English and I’m good at it.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn’t play well enough. Obviously, I was unhappy, but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve on my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined a volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand out food to homeless people in the community.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced course, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m happy to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.
5.Which course do you think would be Adam’s favourite?
A.English B.Chinese C.advanced literature D.world history
6.The phrase “make the team” in Paragraph 3 means ______.
A.to try out and then be allowed to join a sports team
B.to coach the team
C.to build a team
D.to make the team strong and successful
7.What is Adam worried about?
A.The extra-curricula activities he has to choose.
B.That he will have to work at a soup kitchen while he works hard at his lessons.
C.Joining the school football team.
D.Keeping up with the other students in his advanced course and getting used to all the homework.
8.How do you know that Adam is confident that he will get used to senior high school life?
A.Because he has a school advisor who can help him choose the suitable courses.
B.Because he says that he is happy to be there, and he will be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.
C.Because he likes English and is good at it.
D.Because he is a freshman and can do anything as long as he likes.
Passage 3
As a boy, John Kerr wanted to be a fireman or a park ranger (护林员). Looking back on that childhood dream, he says, “This is exactly what I was longing for.”
Instead, after graduation, he spent four decades at WGBH in Boston, one of the public broadcasting stations. He retired in 2005 at the age of 65 without any particular post-career goal in mind. After several aimless weeks, he decided to drive his camper to visit family in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
During the trip, he stopped at the Yellowstone Park Foundation, which raises funds for Yellowstone, America’s first national park. As it happened, the foundation was hiring people to educate park guests on wolves. Later, Kerr signed up for the position as an intern (实习生).
Kerr stood out in the intern crowd — most of them were college and even high school students. But, in a sense, he had been prepared for this since his youth. His outdoor adventures with his grandfather had given him a love to nature, and as an adult, he had helped out at the local fire department on medical calls.
He also had something else. There are 31 million Americans between the ages of 44 and 70 — some retired and looking for a third act, some looking for a more satisfying career — searching for something where they feel as if they are making a contribution, doing something to make their neighbourhood, their country, their world just a little bit better. Kerr also had that deep urge to do something more.
From his internship, he moved up to ranger, educating park visitors, ensuring safe encounters between guests and animals, and responding to medical emergencies. He values his stewardship (管理工作) of what he describes as one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and appreciates the moments when he treats a visitor to an up-close look at one of the park’s wolves or bears through his telescope.
“These are rich and all-too-rare moments,” recalls Kerr. “I never forget them.”
9.What do we know about John Kerr?
A.He fulfilled his childhood fantasy soon after work.
B.He knew exactly what he would do after retirement.
C.He helped greatly in raising funds for Yellowstone.
D.He joined the program in the park by accident.
10.What made John Kerr outstanding in the internship?
A.His healthy body.
B.His advanced academic degree.
C.His previous experience.
D.His professional medical knowledge.
11.Which words can best describe John Kerr?
A.Patient and humorous.
B.Caring and devoted.
C.Hardworking and honest.
D.Active and modest.
12.What is Kerr’s attitude towards his stewardship?
A.Worried. B.Ashamed. C.Positive. D.Regretful.

Passage 2
My husband and I always wanted to go to the Caribbean but didn’t know much about the islands or how we were going to afford it. By chance, a friend of ours in Australia mentioned“ pet sitting” and that it is something you can do all over the world.
We quickly created an account on a pet sitting website and began searching for options. There were only a couple of sits available in that part of the world, but we tried our luck, sent a request, and to our surprise landed a three- month job in Grenada, so our year was going to be taken up with Caribbean pet sits.
Inspired by a Canadian couple, we decided to start our own travel blog. We began by writing about The Virgin Islands, highlighting the beautiful beaches. However, for every photo album of a beautiful beach, there were 10 photos of trash (垃圾). It was hard to ignore the plastic pollution issue, especially on such primitive and remote beaches. So, we began to share photos of the trash we saw and how much we could pick up on our daily dog walks.
The more we looked into plastic pollution, the more we realized the severity of the global plastic pollution. From that point, we used our platform to create awareness and highlight ways to say no to plastic and travel plastic-free. We changed our daily routines, our way of living, and even our diets to accommodate more organic foods and little to no plastic packaging.
It’s been over three years now and we continue to do what we can. This journey has led us to some amazing places, working with great brands and even organizing a country-wide beach clean-up campaign in Grenada.
Our aim now is to keep on going. We love connecting with like- minded people. It’s been amazing few years that was sparked by a conversation about pet sitting. Who would have guessed?

34.How did the author find her experience in the Caribbean?
A.Significant. B.Challenging. C.Adventurous. D.Dreadful.

Passage 3
Humans are not the animal world’s only fashion followers. Tits (山雀) can be one of them, too. A study by Sonja Wild and Lucy Aplin shows that, given the chance, they make their nests (巢穴) with this season’s must-have color.
Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin followed up on a study which noted that the blue tits preferred to put the same plants into their nests. This also suggested fashion-following—and it led Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin to imagine that birds were studying the nests of others and copying them.
The birds they followed carried instruments on them. That allowed researchers to follow a large number of tits by their arrival at food dispensers (自动取物装置) throughout the woods.
One day in March 2021, Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin used five dispensers with wool rather than food. Each contained two colors—either orange and pink or blue and purple—but all were rigged to give only one of these. This remained so until at least one local nest was seen to include wool from a dispenser. At that moment, the other color was discovered, too. As a comparison, Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin set up four wool dispensers in a separate area, each providing two colors from the beginning.
Of 68 tits’ nests, 26 included wool from a dispenser. Of these, 18 were built after both colors had been gotten from all dispensers. Even so, 10 of that 18 included only the color of wool first chosen by a nest makers. By contrast (相比之下), all 8 nests with wool have mixed colors, which showed a clear difference in the record.
Tits, then, do seem to be “in fashion” when it comes to nest-building materials. Tits like those of the leaders of human fashions and it is worth more deep research.
36.Why are the same plants put into nests by the tits?
A.They want to beautify their nests.
B.They find no other plants.
C.They are used to doing this.
D.They want to keep warm.
37.What does the underlined word “rigged” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Refused. B.Warned. C.Forced. D.Arranged.
38.What method is mainly used in the experiment?
A.Testing colors. B.Observing activities.
C.Comparing results. D.Checking numbers.
39.What is the author’s attitude to the research?
A.Disappointed. B.Supportive
C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.

Passage 4
The question of whether it is possible to dissociate the artist from their work has been debated for a long time. Even though positive critical reviews about an artist’s behavior can improve their artistic accomplishments, people should treat artists as individuals who have lived apart from their work.
One of the reasons is that even artists have shortcomings. Like any other human being, an artist can err, and we cannot be severely judgmental of every person that falls into error. Cancel culture with endless criticism is concerned more with how we should disregard the artists when they make mistakes than with how their weaknesses can be used by the artists to create art that is unique.
Perhaps Kevin Hart’s words support this thought. He asks, “When did we get to a point where life was supposed to be perfect? Where people were supposed to operate perfectly all the time?” When people start seeing artists as human beings, they’ll see them for who they are and review their behavior not on the basis of their art but on the basis of their humanity.
It should be also noted that there are works of art that are inspired by the artist’s experience. For example, the themes in the Harry Potter books are so connected with J. K. Rowling’s wicked worldview that it is virtually impossible to distinguish the two from each other. Since canceling artists based on their worldview would mean the reception to their art will suffer, artists become tense and unwilling to express themselves, which will kill creativity, eventually leading to the death of art. Comedians, singers or painters who should be integrating contemporary issues with their works become boring, and art stops functioning as the social mirror it ought to be.
An artist who makes mistakes still has art with intrinsic (内在的) value, benefiting entire communities or cultures. For instance, when Kendrick Lamar launched his album and frequently used the F-slur in one of his songs, there was much-heated discussion. He was entirely mistaken in using the F-slur, but as an artist, he still had a wide-reaching impact on society. Similarly, one can respect the late Michael Jackson because of how he impacted pop music and the inclusion of black musicians in mainstream media despite his personal weaknesses, opinions, worldviews and associations.
While these artists may engage in their terrible behavior, the art they produce today may serve as an example for others to produce outstanding work in the future. Some would refer to this process as a cycle. Good art should, therefore, be judged due to its value and not the value of the artist.
65.Which would Kevin Hart probably agree with?
A.People should perform perfectly all the time.
B.Artists’ shortcomings might be their inspiration.
C.If artists have weaknesses, we’d better cancel them.
D.Artists should be evaluated based on their humanity.
66.Why will “cancel culture” lead to the death of art?
A.Artists will be unwilling to create any artwork.
B.Artists will stop concerning with contemporary issues.
C.Artists will lose their desire for expression and creativity.
D.Artworks are unavoidably inspired by artists’ experiences.
67.How can an artist with mistakes benefit others?
A.The artist may make some new words popular.
B.The artist’s opinions may provoke heated discussion.
C.The artist will benefit entire communities or cultures.
D.The artist’s art may give others ideas of artistic creation.
68.Which would be the best title of the passage?
A.Judge Art Due to Its Value
B.Separate the Art From the Artist
C.Regard Artists as Human Beings
D.Stop Criticizing Artists’ Behavior

Passage 1
When I was little, I was really little. But my dream was big. I dreamed of being a basketball player. I tried out for the teams at school, but I was never given a chance.
As I got older, I did grow a little bigger, but not a lot bigger. On my 12th birthday, I decided to try a new sport: running. I told Grandpa. “I’m going to be an athlete.”
“Dave.” Grandpa began gently, “if you can’t be big, you can do something big.”
I ran 12 miles on my 12th birthday. On my 13th birthday, I did it again, but I added an extra mile. On my 14th birthday, I ran 14 miles. 15 on my 15th, 16 on my 16th, and you guessed it—17 miles on my 17th birthday.
All this running inspired (激发) another big dream. Someday, I’d run the Boston Marathon I told Grandpa about my decision.
“But, Dave, you haven’t trained for the marathon. Are you sure you’re ready?” Grandpa asked. But he still promised to walk over and cheer me on.
I ran fast that day. But I fell at Mile 18 and was driven to the hospital. Later that night, I called Grandpa and told him I failed.
“No,” he said calmly, “you didn’t fail. You discovered something.”
“I did?” I asked.
“Yes, you discovered that big dreams don’t just come true. They take work. If you train and work hard, I promise to wait for you next year and cheer you on.”
I trained every day, running miles and miles. Sadly, just two months into my training, Grandpa died. He wouldn’t be waiting for my second Boston Marathon. I decided I’d run for him.

Passage 3
Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018. The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent watching TV or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级).
Researchers said in the study some of the results were expected. Students with no after-school activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标) of mental health, as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys.
What was noteworthy, researchers say, is that even among students who took part in after-school activities, 46% still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally.
“The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,” the study said. “While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.”
21.Which of the following came last when students took part in the new study?
A.Talking about their lifestyles. B.Introducing their after-school activities.
C.Reporting their mental states on a scale. D.Answering questions about screen time use.
22.What do the researchers find about teenage girls?
A.They often have higher levels of satisfaction.
B.Few of them take part in after-school activities.
C.Anxiety has become a serious problem among them.
D.Too much screen time may be more harmful to them.
23.What does the author want to show by using the numbers in paragraph 4?
A.Earlier findings about screen time are wrong.
B.High screen time is common among teenagers.
C.No after-school activities mean no screen time.
D.Screens attract teenagers more than after-school activities do.
24.Why are after-school activities so important according to the new study?
A.They are good for teenagers’ physical health.
B.They help to improve teenagers’ mental health.
C.They encourage teenagers’ social development.
D.They allow teenagers to become better learners.
Passage 4
On a busy Saturday, I was at the mall with my mum. The mall was alive with the chatter (喋喋不休) of people and the sound of music. Everywhere I looked, there were people dressed in nice clothes, laughing and chatting with their friends.
My mum, on the other hand, wore a simple dress and old shoes. Her clothes looked worn out compared to the others. As we walked past store windows. I couldn’t help but notice the difference, I saw young girls in bright dresses and boys in tidy shirts. They looked so modern and confident.
Feeling a bit out of place, I tried to pull my mum towards less busy areas. I didn’t want anyone to notice us or, more specifically, notice her. It wasn’t because I wasn’t proud of my mum. I just felt she deserved (值得) better.
As we walked around, we entered a store with beautiful clothes. The fabrics (面料) felt soft, and the designs were fashionable. My mun’s eyes lit up when she saw a lovely sweater. “This would look great on you,” she said with a smile.
I checked the price and was shocked, It was much too expensive for us. I knew my mum worked hard to make ends meet. Every penny was made use of in our life. Yet, here she was, willing to spend on a sweater for me.
Looking at her, I realised something. My mum might not have the beautiful clothes or the latest accessories (配饰), but she had a heart of gold. She always put me first, even if it meant giving up her own wants.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of warmth. I hugged her and said to her softly, “Mum, I don’t need the sweater. I just need you.” She smiled, “I know, dear. But it’s nice to have dreams sometimes, right?” We left the store, hand in hand, feeling wealthier than ever.

Zea Tongeman, a 14-year-old student, who is crazy about the Internet, applied technology to create an application that encourages people to recycle while having fun.
Zea was really inspired when she attended “Little Miss Geek Day”, an event that is aimed at making technology more accessible and appealing to young women and inspiring them to consider technology careers. Soon after, she entered “Apps for Good”, a competition that encourages students to create positive changes through technology. Teaming up with her friend, Jordan Stirbu, she laid the foundations for “Jazzy Recycling”.
The “Jazzy Recycling” application is designed to encourage young people to recycle more, which wins the favor of the youth and turns waste disposal (处理) into a game and helps you find places to recycle. Then you scan what you need to recycle, share it, and get rewards such as shopping vouchers (代金券) and games to be unlocked for what you have recycled.
Making use of the teen enthusiasm for sharing every little aspect of their daily life on social media like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, recycling efforts can be shared too as a fun game among friends, which makes more people take part in recycling activities.
Zea explains why she is addicted to the Internet and how technology has changed her, “I used to think technology was just fixing computers and using smartphones; I have become very tired from just using what is available. I have discovered another side to it — I can make technology of my own.”

Passage 2
Until 13, Parker Liautaud was an ordinary kid. That changed after he met polar explorer Robert Swan. They began an email correspondence which turned into a friendship that eventually saw the then 14-year-old invited to join a trip to the Antarctic. He said yes almost instantly. Friends and family, to whom he’d so far shown he had no particular interest in outdoor pursuits, particularly polar ones, were thrown into total confusion, to say the least. He ate lots of chicken, spent a long time in the gym, and proved them wrong.
The following year, Liautaud cooked up a more ambitious plan: to become the youngest-ever person to go to the North Pole. He found a new partner, Doug Stoup, and through a mixture of charm and luck raised the roughly $150,000 needed for the record attempt. Then disaster struck. The early months of the year, when the two set out, were among the warmest on record. The North Pole, which is essentially a GPS location on a constantly-drifting collection of ice sheets, became virtually inaccessible, surrounded by pieces of uncovered ocean.
A trip which had intended to raise awareness of melting ice caps had been obstructed by melting ice caps. “We would get up, battle through these difficult conditions for 150 hours, then wake up the next morning and find that we were further away from the Pole than we’d started the previous morning,” he said. After 14 days’ trying, they admitted defeat.
Liautaud came home and decided to try again the next spring. Conditions were cold but perfect, and he and Soup reached the Pole in no time. While it might not have made him the youngest North-Poler, the success did give Liautaud a platform to continue advocacy against climate change, through his campaigning website. His view is that it’s his generation that must push hardest for cuts in carbon emissions. He has already contributed to research projects carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency and will soon set up two stations to record weather data.
44.How did Liautaud’s family react to his decision to go to the Antarctic?
A.They made fun of it. B.They were puzzled about it.
C.They turned a deaf ear to it. D.They tried to talk him out of it.
45.Why was Liautaud determined to go to the North Pole?
A.To push his physical limits.
B.To become an experienced North-Poler.
C.To support environment protection.
D.To finish a research project for his website.
46.The underlined word “obstructed” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “_________”
A.prevented B.promoted C.separated D.succeeded
47.Which of the following words can best describe Liautaud as a young man?
A.Demanding. B.Generous. C.Cooperative. D.Responsible.
Passage 3
Eight-year-old Maggie Carosino spent last year on homeschooling and her science class of choice was botany (植物学). Her mother Reagan said she took Maggie for an educational visit to Lake Rasmussen in Duvall last fall when the little scientist noticed an unusual plant in the water. King County officials said they were amazed to receive an email telling them about the possible invasive plant A couple of scientists said that it was an invasive plant known as “Egeria” that can cause big problems.
Sasha Shaw, with King County’s Noxious Weed Program, said that Egeria is “a super invasive water plant that’s never been found in the local river.” Egeria is an issue because if left unchecked it will spread to a point where it prevents light from reaching other plants and reduces oxygen for fish, according to Shaw.
Maggie’s discovery was important in its timing as the county worked quickly to have a look and found no signs of Egeria having spread outside of the lake to this point.
“Her love of plants was what got Maggie to the lake but the fact that she felt some sort of duty to notice the plant and say ‘hey mom, we gotta tell somebody!’ is just amazing,” said Shaw.
Shaw said that the Egeria likely came from someone who threw a fish tank (鱼缸) into the lake. This is a good chance for the county to remind people that leaving unwanted pets and plants in the wild can lead to serious problems.
48.Why did Reagan take Maggie to Lake Rasmussen?
A.To meet some scientists. B.To have a relaxing day together.
C.To find an invasive plant. D.To learn something about plants.
49.What problem can Egeria cause?
A.It blocks out the light. B.It gives fish too much food.
C.It is highly poisonous. D.It produces too much oxygen.
50.What lesson does Shaw hope people can learn?
A.It is bad to put fish in fish tanks.
B.It is not so difficult to become a scientist.
C.It matters a lot to deal with unwanted animals properly.
D.It leads to serious problems to be famous at a young age.
51.What is the best title for the text?
A.8-year-old girl is a big nature lover. B.8-year-old girl knows a lot about duty.
C.8-year-old girl enjoys her homeschooling days. D.8-year-old girl warns officials of a problem plant.
Passage 4
For the past year, I’ve spent many hours and many Tuesdays volunteering at a wonderful zoo. I worked in the kitchen, helping to prepare food for the animals. This zoo is part of the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Many animals here are part of a special program. The goal of this program is to protect animal species (物种) that are at risk or in danger of disappearing. The zoo has breeding plans to help these animals survive.
I quickly learned that it’s easy to love all the animals. I especially liked one animal right away — the zoo’s prehensile-tailed porcupine (卷尾豪猪) named Fin. You might have seen YouTube videos of these animals eating and making cute noises. I learned that Fin really loves bananas and likes to peel them himself. One of my favorite things about Fin is his little nose, which looks like a pig’s nose.
I also learned that nothing gets done without teamwork from the animal keepers. Taking care of all the zoo animals requires a lot of work. The keepers know a lot about every animal in the zoo. They work very hard, day and night, to keep the animals safe and healthy. Even in winter, the keepers stay at the zoo to make sure all the animals are happy and fed.
Zoos are important. They teach visitors why we need to protect these animals and their homes. Most zoos care deeply for their animals and work very hard to keep them happy and healthy.
52.What do we know about the AZA program?
A.It feeds animals with natural foods. B.It searches for uncommon animals.
C.It saves species from dying out. D.It provides wild areas for animals.
53.What is one of the author’s favorite things about Fin?
A.Fin’s love for bananas. B.Fin’s nose similar to a pig’s.
C.Fin’s appearance in YouTube videos. D.Fin’s cute eating noises.
54.What does the author imply about zookeepers?
A.They have medical backgrounds. B.They train animals for exercises.
C.They become animals’ friends. D.They value animals’ emotions.
55.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Zoos are not animal cages. B.Zoos should be free to all.
C.Zoos are not as good as nature. D.Zoos should be under control.

Passage 1
In the sport of track and field, athletes compete not only with one another but against themselves, and in each race they try to achieve the new personal best.
For one Nebraska teen running in what would likely to be his final cross-country outing before graduating from high school, his personal best turned out not to be marking the fastest time but displaying the biggest heart.
Although it was a long shot when he came out from the starting position last Thursday, Brandon Schutt from Bellevue East High School knew if his time was good enough that day, he still had the potential to qualify for the upcoming state meet. A mile into the 3.1-mile race, however, Schutt realized he wasn’t going to be able to keep up the necessary momentum(势头). Rather than risking injury, he slowed to a comfortable pace that would allow him to simply get pleasure from the moment and the day.
Meanwhile, Blake Cerveny from Omaha Burke High School was running a very different kind of race. Aiming to beat his own personal record, after a fast start, he continued to push himself hard. With less than 400 meters to go, Cerveny’s legs cramped up (抽筋), but he didn’t give up. Cerveny rose from the ground and continued on, only to fall again after another 150 meters and again. About 100 meters away from the finish line, he lay curled on the ground. His legs had simply given out.
Before Cerveny’s dad could reach his son, Brandon Schutt was at his side to offer a helping hand. The two completed the final meters of the course. Schutt even made sure the injured runner crossed the finish line first, securing his opponent a faster time.
In today’s competitive world, while the emphasis in athletics is so often on breaking records, it is inspiring to see an athlete like Brandon Schutt.
69.What can we learn about Schutt at the beginning of the running?
A.He was confident to win the first place.
B.He was nervous about the coming graduation.
C.He was clear about his own strengths and weaknesses.
D.He was dissatisfied with the surrounding things.
70.Why did Brandon Schutt slow down after a mile?
A.To have a final push. B.To enjoy the competition.
C.To help Blake Cerveny. D.To examine his wounds.
71.What can we learn about Blake Cerveny in the race?
A.He was a person of determination.
B.He was generous to help others.
C.He didn’t cross the finish line.
D.He was affected by his physical disability.
72.What can be the best title of the passage?
A.The Love for Sports. B.The Sport of Track and Field.
C.The Importance of Perseverance. D.The Value of True Sportsmanship.
Passage 2
By the time you finish reading this, a species on Earth might disappear forever. Humans need a variety of animals, plants, and microorganisms for healthy living. Studies show that the decline in biodiversity (生物多样性), or the variety of life on Earth, causes a serious threat to our existence. My colleagues and I found that biodiversity is also important for mental health.
Contact with nature benefits mental health, particularly for city residents. People living near green spaces have a 71% lower risk of developing depression and anxiety. However, most studies have not looked at how natural diversity influences these benefits. To explore this, we studied whether environments with many natural features, like trees, plants, and wildlife, improve mental health more than those with fewer features. From April 2018 to September 2023, 1,998 people used the Urban Mind app to report their environment and mental health over 41,000 times.
We discovered that green spaces with high natural diversity offer more mental health benefits than those with low diversity. Participants reported that nearly a quarter of this positive impact was due to natural diversity, and these benefits could last up to eight hours. Our study suggests that to promote mental health, we should protect biodiversity. This means moving away from decorative gardens and parks with cut grass, which have low biodiversity, toward natural fields and streams that support a variety of plants and animals.
Other studies support our findings. A survey of 15,000 families revealed that those living near areas rich in plants and birds had lower rates of mental health issues, even after accounting for social and economic differences. Our study adds that even brief, daily meets with biodiverse nature can improve mental health. Biodiverse nature wakens the senses, improves focus, and reduces mental tiredness. It also encourages outdoor exercise and social interaction, which improve mood. Additionally, diverse environments reduce pollutants and moderate temperatures, protecting against chronic (慢性的) conditions and stress.
73.What does the passage say about the decline in biodiversity?
A.It mostly harms animals. B.It is not important to humans.
C.It is a serious danger to humans. D.It only happens in the countryside.
74.What conclusion does the study draw about green spaces?
A.We should plant more trees in urban parks.
B.We should reduce the focus on decorative gardens.
C.We should limit public access to protect green spaces.
D.We should shift from low biodiversity to natural diversity.
75.What does the underlined word “moderate” most likely mean in paragraph 4?
A.Increase. B.Balance. C.Decrease. D.Manage.
76.What would be the best title for this passage?
A.The Environmental Impact of Urban Parks
B.The Benefits of Physical Activity in Nature
C.How Social Interaction Improves Well-being
D.How Natural Diversity Influences Mental Health
Passage 3
The Summer Olympics in Paris is always impressive, but 2024 promised something extraordinary even before the games began — the seats you are sitting on! Made from locally recycled plastic, these seats are sustainability (可持续性) champions in their own right.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics made history in terms of sustainability, as 11,000 stadium seats made entirely of recycled plastic are used during the water sports. The plastic used for the seats was collected from recycling bins in the Seine-Saint-Denis neighborhood, and 80% of the 100 metric tons needed for the seats came from this area. The collected plastic was cut and torn into small pieces, processed and turned into new material by a local recycling firm called Le Pavé.
After the base materials are produced into plastic seats with different colors, the seats have gone through numerous tests, including mechanical resistance, fire resistance, as well as UV resistance. The recycled plastic chairs proved to be strong and durable, with producers reporting no problems in the production process.
The use of recycled plastic seats is part of Paris and France’s commitment to sustainability, with the goal of reducing downstream emissions (排放) by 50% compared to the 2012 and 2016 games. Additionally, the city is working to fight against environment worsening by making the Seine River swimmable for the first time in decades, in an effort to host the triathlon (铁人三项) there.
The recycled plastic seats not only promote sustainability but also raise awareness about waste recycling, with children being encouraged to throw their plastic bottles into appropriate bins. The Paris Olympics’ use of recycled plastic seats demonstrates the potential of a circular economy, where waste is repurposed and reused, ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfills and oceans.
77.What is special about the seats for the 2024 Paris Olympics?
A.They won the championship in a competition. B.They are made with a mix of plastic types.
C.They are made from recyclable plastic. D.They are produced from local raw materials.
78.Where was the plastic for the seats mostly collected from?
A.Recycling firms. B.Local recycling bins.
C.All over France. D.International suppliers.
79.What does the numerous tests mainly show in paragraph 3?
A.The advantages of the seats. B.The production process of the seats.
C.The difficulty of producing the seats. D.The significance of the plastic seats.
80.What is one of the goals of using recycled plastic seats at the Paris Olympics?
A.To create continued economic growth. B.To reduce energy consumption.
C.To attract more attention to the games. D.To contribute to environmental efforts.
Passage 4
Are you attracted to faraway places? Do you prefer a vacation away from other tourists? Are you careful to take only memories and to leave only footprints? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you just might be an ecotourist
Ecotourists are people who want to experience the natural world without damage and leave it that way when they return home. This started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin (盆地) is leading to that enlarging, and it gives tourists a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge, a small group of small houses sit Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve (保护区) and are only accessible by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do, local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to enjoy the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011. The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won’t start your own ecolodge (生态旅馆), but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines: Protect the environment; Support local businesses; Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.
81.According to the text, the ecotourists should be ______.
A.those who like to go to their travelling places by cars.
B.those who like an easily-remembered natural environment
C.those who prefer a natural world which is what it used to be
D.those who prefer unique natural environment of cultural relics
82.Which word is closest to the underlined word “snapshot” in Paragraph 2?
A.Idea. B.Chance. C.Purpose. D.Adventure.
83.At the Kapawi Ecolodge, visitors can’t ______.
A.reach there by air B.live in the Achuar reserve
C.explore the Amazon rainforest D.see many travelers from outside
84.What can we learn from the text?
A.The owners of Kapawi are the Achuar who are in favor of ecotourism.
B.The owners encourage tourists to enjoy the Achuar culture.
C.The Achuar people have gained a lot by collecting money from ecotourists.
D.The Kapawi Ecolodge will still run and manage the hotel after 2011.

Passage 2
【答案】5.A 6.A 7.D 8.B
根据第二段“My adviser recommended that I should sign up for advanced literature because I like English and I’m good at it.(我的导师建议我报高级文学班,因为我喜欢英语,而且我擅长英语)”可知,Adam最喜欢的科目应是英语。故选A项。
根据前文“I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn’t play well enough. Obviously, I was unhappy, but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve on my own(我想加入学校足球队,但教练告诉我,我踢得不够好。显然,我很不开心,但我不会放弃。我会找到一种方法来提高自己)”可知,Adam踢得不够好所以这次没有加入球队,但是他会找到一种方法来提高自己,应是争取明年加入球队,所以推知make the team应是“加入球队”之意,A项是对make the team的解释。故选A项。
根据最后一段“I’m a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced course, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework.(我有点担心在高级课程上跟不上其他同学,而且要适应这么多的作业也很难)”可知,Adam担心自己在高级课程上跟不上其他同学,而且要适应这么多的作业也很难。故选D项。
根据最后一段“Still, I’m happy to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.(不过,我还是很高兴来到这里。努力学习并不总是有趣的,但我会为大学或未来的任何其他事情做好准备)”可知,Adam说他很高兴在那里,他会为大学或未来的任何其他事情做好准备,从而推知Adam有信心他会习惯高中生活。故选B项。

32.Why did the author do pet sitting?
A.To raise fund. B.To protect the environment.

B.The Caribbean is an ideal travel destination.
C.Travel blog is a superb way to gain popularity.
D.Action should be taken to fight plastic pollution.
34.How did the author find her experience in the Caribbean?
A.Significant. B.Challenging. C.Adventurous. D.Dreadful.
35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Changing Lifestyles by Pet Sitting B.Unexpected Gains from Pet Sitting Travel
C.Dealing with Global Environment Pollution D.The Availability of Pet Sitting in the Caribbean
【答案】32.C 33.D 34.A 35.B
根据第一段“My husband and I always wanted to go to the Caribbean but didn’t know much about the islands or how we were going to afford it. By chance, a friend of ours in Australia mentioned“ pet sitting” and that it is something you can do all over the world.(我丈夫和我一直想去加勒比海地区,但对那些岛屿不太了解,也不知道我们怎么负担得起。一次偶然的机会,我们在澳大利亚的一个朋友提到了“宠物看护”,这是你在世界各地都可以做的事情)”可知,作者夫妻二人照顾宠物是为了支付旅行的费用。故选C。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段中“It was hard to ignore the plastic pollution issue, especially on such primitive and remote beaches.(很难忽视塑料污染问题,尤其是在这样原始和偏远的海滩上)”以及第四段中“The more we looked into plastic pollution, the more we realized the severity of the global plastic pollution. From that point, we used our platform to create awareness and highlight ways to say no to plastic and travel plastic-free.(对塑料污染了解得越多,我们就越意识到全球塑料污染的严重性。从那时起,我们利用我们的平台来提高人们的意识,并强调拒绝塑料和无塑料旅行的方式)”可推知,作者通过她的故事想呼吁大家行动起来应对塑料污染。故选D。

C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
【答案】36.A 37.D 38.C 39.B
Humans are not the animal world’s only fashion followers. Tits () can be one of them, too.(人类并不是动物世界中唯一的时尚追随者。山雀也可能是其中之一)”以及第二段“Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin followed up on a study which noted that the blue tits preferred to put the same plants into their nests. This also suggested fashion-following — and it led Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin to imagine that birds were studying the nests of others and copying them.(怀尔德博士和阿普林博士跟进了一项研究,该研究指出,蓝山雀更喜欢把同样的植物放进它们的巢穴。这也表明了时尚追随——这让怀尔德博士和阿普林博士想象鸟类正在研究其他鸟类的巢穴并模仿它们)”可知,同样的植物会被山雀放进巢里是因为它们想要美化它们的巢穴。故选A项。
根据后文“As a comparison, Dr. Wild and Dr. Aplin set up four wool dispensers in a separate area, each providing two colors from the beginning.(作为对比,怀尔德博士和阿普林博士在一个单独的区域设置了四个羊毛分配器,每个分配器从一开始就提供两种颜色)”可知,作为对比每个分配器被设置成提供两种颜色,所以前文提到的应是被设置成只能给出其中一种颜色。
根据倒数第二段“Of 68 tits’ nests, 26 included wool from a dispenser. Of these, 18 were built after both colors had been gotten from all dispensers. Even so, 10 of that 18 included only the color of wool first chosen by a nest makers. By contrast (相比之下), all 8 nests with wool have mixed colors, which showed a clear difference in the record.(在68个山雀的巢中,有26个包括来自分配器的羊毛。其中,18是在从所有分配器获得两种颜色后建造的。即便如此,在这18只羊毛中,有10只包含了造巢者首先选择的羊毛颜色。相比之下,所有8个有羊毛的巢都是混合的颜色,这在记录中显示出明显的差异)”可推知,实验中主要采用比较实验结果的方法分析实验数据。故选C项。
39.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Tits, then, do seem to be “in fashion” when it comes to nest-building materials. Tits like those of the leaders of human fashions and it is worth more deep research.(因此,当谈到筑巢材料时,山雀似乎确实很“时髦”。与人类时尚领袖的头衔相似,值得更深入的研究)”可知,作者觉得更深入的研究。由此推知,他支持这项研究。故选B项。

根据第三段中“Perhaps Kevin Hart’s words support this thought. He asks, “When did we get to a point where life was supposed to be perfect? Where people were supposed to operate perfectly all the time?” When people start seeing artists as human beings, they’ll see them for who they are and review their behavior not on the basis of their art but on the basis of their humanity.
根据第四段中“Since canceling artists based on their worldview would mean the reception to their art will suffer, artists become tense and unwilling to express themselves, which will kill creativity, eventually leading to the death of art.(因为世界观而封杀艺术家,就意味着对其艺术的认可会受到影响,艺术家会变得紧张,不愿意表达自己,这就会扼杀创造力,最终导致艺术的死亡)”可知,“封杀文化”会导致艺术的死亡是因为它会让艺术家将失去表达和创造的欲望。故选C项。
根据最后一段中“While these artists may engage in their terrible behavior, the art they produce today may serve as an example for others to produce outstanding work in the future.(虽然这些艺术家可能会从事他们可怕的行为,但他们今天创作的艺术作品可能会成为未来其他人创作杰出作品的榜样)”可知,一个犯了错误的艺术家的艺术可能会给其他人带来艺术创作的灵感,从而给其它人带来益处。故选D项。
通读全文,结合第一段中“The question of whether it is possible to dissociate the artist from their work has been debated for a long time. Even though positive critical reviews about an artist’s behavior can improve their artistic accomplishments, people should treat artists as individuals who have lived apart from their work.(是否有可能将艺术家与他们的作品分开的问题已经争论了很长时间。

That day, I ran fast. “Keep going! You can do it!” His words filled my head as I forced my legs to make each painful step. As I crossed the finish line, I threw my arms in the air and cried, “Grandpa, we did it!”

根据第四段的“I ran 12 miles on my 12th birthday. On my13th birthday, I did it again, but | added an extra mile. (我在12岁生日那天跑了12英里。在我13岁生日的时候,我又做了一次,但是我多加了一英里)”可知,此处的it指代“生日跑步这件事”。故选B项。

You discovered something. 以及倒数第三段““Yes, you discovered that big dreams don 't just come true. They take work. If you train and work hard, I promise to wait for you next year and cheer you on.”(“是的,你发现了伟大的梦想不会轻易成真。
根据第一段中的“When I was little, I was really little. But my dream was big. I dreamed of being a basketball player. What a day! I started at my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I’d been at the school for a hundred years!
The day started very early at 7: 00 am. I had my breakfast downstairs with my mom. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mom kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn’t love me, Mom said to send them her way for a good talking to. I couldn’t stop laughing.
My mom dropped me off at the school gates about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving (招手) at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey.

根据第一段中“Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine.(发表在《预防医学》杂志上的一项研究表明,花更多时间参加课外活动、放学后看屏幕时间少于两小时的青少年心理更健康)”及最后一段中的“The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers(研究结果表明,课外活动对青少年的快乐成长很有价值)”及“While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results. (虽然过去的研究已经证明了课外活动对社交和学业发展的重要性,但目前的研究显示了它们对良好的心理健康结果的重要性)”可知,这项新的研究发现课外活动有助于改善青少年的心理健康状况。故选B项。

【答案】69.C 70.B 71.A 72.D

根据尾段“In today’s competitive world, while the emphasis in athletics is so often on breaking records, it is inspiring to see an athlete like Brandon Schutt.(在当今竞争激烈的世界里,虽然体育运动的重点经常是打破记录,但看到像Brandon Schutt这样的运动员还是令人鼓舞的。)”
【答案】73.C 74.D 75.B 76.D

根据第一段内容,尤其是“Studies show that the decline in biodiversity (生物多样性), or the variety of life on Earth, causes a serious threat to our existence. (研究表明,生物多样性或地球上生命种类的减少对我们的生存造成了严重威胁。)”可知,生物多样性的减少对人类的生存构成严重威胁,故选C。
74.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Our study suggests that to promote mental health, we should protect biodiversity. This means moving away from decorative gardens and parks with cut grass, which have low biodiversity, toward natural fields and streams that support a variety of plants and animals.
根据文章第一段“My colleagues and I found that biodiversity is also important for mental health. (我和我的同事发现生物多样性对心理健康也很重要。)”及全文内容可知,作者主要研究了自然环境中生物多样性(natural diversity)如何影响心理健康,强调了生物多样性对人类心理健康的积极作用,其他选项如A(城市公园的环境影响)、B(户外活动的益处)和C(社交互动对健康的提升)虽然都涉及文章中的某些细节,但都没有准确反映文章的核心内容。故选D。

【答案】81.C 82.A 83.D 84.B
根据第二段中“Ecotourists are people who want to experience the natural world without damage and leave it that way when they return home. (生态旅游者是指那些想要在不受破坏的情况下体验自然世界,并在回家后将其保持原样的人。)”可知,生态旅游者是想要不被破坏的情况下体验自然世界,由此可知,生态旅游者是那些希望保持自然世界原本样子的人。故选C项。
82.词义猜测题。划线单词前的“Ecotourists are people who want to experience the natural world without damage and leave it that way when they return home. This started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. (生态旅游者是指那些想要在不受破坏的情况下体验自然世界,并在回家时将其保持原样的人。这始于20世纪90年代,现在生态旅游的增长速度是整个旅游业的三倍。)”可知,此处介绍了生态旅游者的概念,以及生态旅游的快速发展,结合“The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin (盆地) is leading to that enlarging, and it gives tourists…(厄瓜多尔遥远的亚马逊盆地正导致生态旅游放大,也给游客们……。)” 故选A项。
根据第三段中的“At the Ecolodge, a small group of small houses sit Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve (保护区) and are only accessible by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. (在生态园区,一群小房子坐落在卡帕维生态园区,位于阿丘阿尔人保护区的中间,只能乘飞机到达。从这里,游客可以探索一些外人很少看到的亚马逊雨林。)”可知,去Kapawi需要乘坐飞机到那里,由此可知,卡帕维生态旅馆比较难以到达,所以游客不能看到很多来自于外面的游客。故选D项。
84.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“As they do, local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to enjoy the local culture as well as the natural environment. (当他们来探索的时候,当地的阿丘阿尔向导向他们解释森林是如何像他们的超市一样,在那里他们可以找到食物、衣服、药品和工具。因此,游客学会享受当地的文化和自然环境。)”可知,游客可以学会享受当地的文化和自然环境,结合第四段中的“They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011. The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people. (他们已经就一项计划达成一致,到2011年将这项业务完全移交给Achuar。所有者正在努力使生态旅游受益,并赋予当地人权力。)”可知,卡帕维生态旅馆的所有者在经营的时候让Achuar向导为游客介绍他们的生活文化,并会将这项业务移交给当地人,让他们拥有充分的权力,由此推知,这里的所有者鼓励游客享受当地的阿丘亚文化。故选B项。
