Unit 4 Fun in the Sun!-Wrapping Up the Topic-Project This project in Unit 4 of Ren'ai Science Edition (2024) for Grade 7 English focuses on sports. Students are required to complete a survey about sports, which involves using the vocabulary and sentence patterns related to sports learned in this unit. They will design questionnaires, conduct surveys among classmates, analyze data, and finally report the results. This project integrates various language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and also promotes students' cooperation ability and critical thinking. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Objectives Students should be able to master sports - related vocabulary proficiently, including “ping - pong”, “basketball”, “football”, “skiing”, “swimming”, “tennis”, “volleyball” etc. They can use relevant sentence patterns to conduct sports - related surveys and communicate, such as “What is your favorite sport?”, “How long do you do your favorite sport every week?”, “Which new sport do you want to learn?”, “Do you like team sports or individual sports? Why?”, “How often do you watch sports games on TV?” 2. Ability Objectives Through the process of completing questionnaires and group activities, students' information collection and processing abilities will be improved. For example, they need to sort out and summarize the survey results. Their oral and written expression abilities will be cultivated. They should be able to clearly report the survey results in both spoken and written English. 3. Emotional Objectives Stimulate students' interest in sports, and encourage them to actively participate in sports activities. Strengthen students' team - work spirit and communication skills through group cooperation. 教学重难点 1. Teaching Key Points Master sports - related vocabulary and sentence patterns and use them correctly. Learn to design questionnaires and carry out survey activities, and be able to report survey results in English. 2. Teaching Difficult Points Guide students to accurately express their ideas and views in appropriate English. For instance, when describing reasons for liking a certain sport, students may have trouble finding the right words. Help students analyze and summarize survey data and report them clearly. They need to understand how to present data in a logical and understandable way, such as using charts. 1. Vocabulary Sports names: ping - pong, basketball, football, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, badminton, gymnastics, cycling, running, hiking, skating, surfing etc. Related words: favorite, often, usually, sometimes, never, hour, minute, team, individual, new, learn, watch, game etc. 2. Sentence Patterns What is your favorite sport? My favorite sport is... How long do you do your favorite sport every week? I do... for... hours/minutes every week. Which new sport do you want to learn? I want to learn... Do you like team sports or individual sports? I like... sports because... How often do you watch sports games on TV? I watch sports games on TV... times a week/month. 3. Grammar Simple present tense is used to talk about habits and preferences, such as “I play basketball every Saturday.” 教学过程 1. Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some exciting pictures or short videos of various sports, like an exciting basketball game, a fast - paced football match, and people swimming freely in the pool. Then start a conversation with students: “Boys and girls, look at these pictures/videos. What a wonderful sports world! So, can you tell me what sports you know? And among them, what is your favorite sport?” Encourage students to answer in English, thus leading to the theme of this class - sports survey. 2. Knowledge Explanation (10 minutes) Vocabulary Teaching: Present sports - related vocabulary one by one. For example, when teaching “ping - pong”, show a picture of two people playing ping - pong and say, “Look, this is ping - pong. We use a small ball and bats to play this sport.” Demonstrate some sports actions like shooting a basketball or kicking a football to help students better understand and remember the words. Let students repeat the words several times to strengthen their memory. Sentence Pattern Teaching: Explain the key sentence patterns in the questionnaire. Take “What is your favorite sport?” as an example. Analyze its structure: “What” is a special question word, “is” is the be - verb, and “your favorite sport” is the subject. Give more examples and let students imitate. For example, “What is your favorite food? What is your favorite color?” Do the same for other sentence patterns, such as “How long do you do your favorite sport every week?” Explain that “How long” is used to ask about the duration, and let students practice making sentences with different sports. 3. Completing the Questionnaire (10 minutes) Distribute the questionnaires in Activity 1 to students. Ask students to fill in their own information, including name, age, class, and answers to relevant questions independently. For example, “What is your favorite sport? How long do you do your favorite sport every week?” Walk around the classroom, observe students' progress, and provide timely help and guidance. For example, if a student has trouble spelling a word or understanding a question, explain it patiently. 4. Group Activities (10 minutes) Grouping: Divide students into groups of 4 - 6 people. Exchange and Discussion: Group members exchange their questionnaire answers. Encourage them to ask each other follow - up questions, such as “Why do you like this sport?” Then, they discuss what new questions can be added to the questionnaire. For example, they may come up with questions like “Do you think sports are important for health? Why?” Design a New Questionnaire: Each group designs a new questionnaire based on the discussion results. The new questionnaire should contain more in - depth and diverse sports - related questions. Classroom Survey: Each group goes around the classroom to conduct a survey using their newly designed questionnaires. They ask other classmates the questions and record the answers carefully. 5. Data Analysis and Reporting (10 minutes) Data Analysis: After collecting enough data, each group analyzes the survey results. They can use simple charts like bar charts or pie charts to show the distribution of answers. For example, if the question is “What is your favorite sport?”, they can draw a bar chart with different sports on the horizontal axis and the number of students who like each sport on the vertical axis. Reporting: Each group selects a representative to report the survey results to the whole class. The representative should use the following sentence patterns: “Here are the results of our survey. For Question One,... students’ favorite sport is... ” While the representative is reporting, other group members listen carefully and can ask questions or express their opinions. For example, they may ask, “Why do you think so many students like basketball?” 教学反思 Through this teaching activity, students have achieved certain results. In the process of completing questionnaires, group cooperation, and reporting results, they have relatively well - mastered sports - related vocabulary and sentence patterns. Their information collection and processing abilities, as well as oral and written expression abilities, have been improved. Moreover, group cooperation learning has enhanced students' team - work spirit and communication skills. However, there are also some deficiencies in the teaching process. For example, some students designed unclear and less targeted questions when making questionnaires. In the future, more guidance should be provided, such as showing some excellent questionnaire examples and analyzing their advantages. When reporting survey results, some students' language expressions were not smooth and accurate enough, so more practice and imitation opportunities need to be given. Additionally, the control of teaching time was not precise enough, making the final summary and expansion part a bit hasty. In future teaching, teaching links and time arrangements should be further optimized to ensure that teaching activities can be carried out more efficiently and orderly. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
