Greet the students and show some pictures of different sports, such as basketball, tennis, swimming, etc. Ask students to quickly say the names of these sports in English.
Then ask students: "What's your favorite sport? Why do you like it?" Invite several students to answer the questions. This activity can activate students' prior knowledge about sports and arouse their interest in the topic of this lesson.
2. Pre-reading (5 minutes)
Show the students the picture on the textbook related to the theme reading. Let students observe the picture carefully and then ask them to predict what the passage is about. For example, ask: "What can you see in the picture? Who are they? What are they doing? Where are they?"
Then let students skim the passage quickly to check their predictions. This step can train students' ability to predict text content based on pictures and improve their reading interest.
3. While-reading (20 minutes)
Activity 1: Read for the main idea (3 minutes)
Let students read the whole passage quickly and try to find out the main idea of each paragraph. Then ask them to match each paragraph with its corresponding main idea on the blackboard.
Paragraph 1: Introduction of the football game, including the place, time, weather, and the people involved.
Paragraph 2: The process and result of the football game, as well as the feelings and wishes of Wang Junfeng and his teacher.
Activity 2: Read for details (7 minutes)
Let students read the first paragraph carefully and complete the setting chart on the worksheet. The chart includes columns such as "Place", "Time", "Weather", and "Activity".
Then ask students to read the second paragraph and fill in the blanks according to the text. The blanks can be related to the key events in the game, such as the team's performance at the start, Wang Junfeng's actions, and the final score.
After that, check the answers with the whole class and explain some difficult points.
Activity 3: Read and judge (5 minutes)
Present some statements on the PPT related to the text content, such as "Wang Junfeng's team won the game easily at the start." "Wang Junfeng gave up when their team was losing." etc. Let students read the text again and judge whether these statements are true or false.
Ask students to correct the false statements. This activity can help students further understand the details of the text and improve their reading comprehension ability.

After the group discussion, invite some groups to share their opinions. Summarize the sportsmanship, such as never giving up, persevering, and good teamwork.

Encourage students to read more texts about sports after class to expand their vocabulary and reading skills.
教学反思
After this class, most students can actively participate in various activities, which indicates that the teaching methods and activities designed in this class can arouse students' interest. Through different reading tasks, students have improved their reading skills such as skimming, scanning, and detailed reading. However, there are still some problems. For example, in the group discussion about sportsmanship, some students may have difficulties expressing their opinions accurately in English. In the future teaching, more guidance on oral expression should be given. Also, when asking students to share their own sports experiences, some students' descriptions are relatively simple. Teachers can provide more sentence patterns and expressions in advance to help students enrich their descriptions. Overall, this class has achieved most of the teaching goals, but there is still room for improvement.
