教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Play a short video about various sports scenes, like people running on the track, playing basketball in the court, and swimming in the pool.
After the video, ask students some questions:
"Do you like sports? Why or why not?"
"How often do you do sports?"
"What sports do you usually do?"
Encourage students to share their answers and briefly discuss the benefits of sports for health. This can lead to the topic of today's class - sports suggestions.
B. Pre - reading (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Introduction
Present the new vocabulary related to sports suggestions on the PPT. Teach the words one by one, pronounce them clearly, and ask students to repeat after you.
For example, when teaching "exercise", say: "Exercise is very important for our health. We can do many kinds of exercises, like running, swimming. Read after me, exercise."
Use pictures or real objects (if possible) to help students understand the meaning of the words. For "sports clothes", show a picture of a T - shirt and shorts and say, "These are sports clothes. We wear them when we do sports."
Prediction
Show the title of the reading text and some pictures related to the text (if there are any in the textbook). Let students look at them and predict what the text might be about.
Ask students to share their predictions in pairs first, and then invite some pairs to share with the whole class.
C. While - reading (15 minutes)
Fast Reading
Let students read the text quickly within 2 - 3 minutes. Ask them to find the main idea of each paragraph and underline the topic sentence if there is one.
After they finish reading, invite several students to share the main idea of each paragraph. Write their answers on the blackboard.
Careful Reading
Ask students to read the text again carefully. This time, they need to mark out important information points related to sports suggestions, such as what to wear, what to do before and after sports.
After they finish, ask them to work in pairs to share the important information they marked. Then, call some pairs to report to the class. The teacher can summarize and write the key points on the blackboard. For example:
Wear right sports clothes and shoes.
Drink enough water before, during and after sports.
Warm up before doing sports and cool down after sports.
D. Post - reading (10 minutes)
Summarizing Methods Teaching
Explain the methods of summarizing the main points of the article to the students. Emphasize that they need to first find out the important points and then integrate them in their own words.
Give an example: "If the important points are 'We should wear sports clothes. We should drink water. We should warm up.' We can summarize it as 'When doing sports, we should wear proper clothes, drink water and warm up.'"
Exercise Completion
Let students read the text again and complete the blank - filling exercises in Activity 2 according to the summarizing methods.
Ask students to show their answers one by one. Check the answers together with the class and correct the mistakes if there are any.
E. Group Work (5 minutes)
Divide students into groups of 4 - 5.
Ask each group to discuss and come up with their own sports suggestions. They can write them down on a piece of paper.
After the discussion, each group chooses a representative to share their sports suggestions with the class. The other groups listen carefully and can ask questions or make comments.
教学反思
Positive Aspects
The use of video in the warming - up part successfully attracted students' attention and aroused their interest in the topic, making it easier to lead in the class content.
The step - by - step reading process, from fast reading to careful reading, helped students gradually understand the text and master the important information. The group work also provided students with opportunities to communicate in English and cooperate with their peers, which enhanced their oral expression and teamwork abilities.
Areas for Improvement
Some students still had difficulties in summarizing the text in their own words, indicating that more practice on summarizing skills is needed. In the future, more examples and exercises can be provided in class to strengthen this ability.
During the group work, some students were a bit shy to speak English. More encouragement and guidance should be given to those students to create a more active and inclusive speaking environment.
Future Adjustments
Based on the reflection, in the next class, a review of summarizing methods will be carried out at the beginning. And more group activities related to summarizing different texts will be arranged to improve students' proficiency. Also, for the shy students, more individual - level guidance and small - group speaking practice will be designed to help them build up confidence in speaking English.
