A A Beginner’s Guide to Goal Setting for Teens Are you trying to get into your dream college? Hoping to make it into the school basketball team next year? Or maybe get an A in chemistry? Regardless of what your goal is or how big it is, if you’re a young person who wants to accomplish something, you’ve come to the right place. This guide to goal setting for teens is definitely for you! When it comes to goal setting, SMART goals are the top dog. This well-established tool for goal setting is highly influenced by Locke and Latham’s goal setting theory and used by almost every major company out there. If there’s one tool for goal setting for teens to understand, it’s this one. You’ll probably encounter it later on in university or your career as well too! When creating a SMART goal, here’s what you need to consider... A SMARI goal is... Specific→State exactly what you will accomplish Measurable→Progress is trackable and you will know when you achieve it Attainable→It is possible for you to achieve the goal Relevant→It is consistent with your values, interests and other goals Timely→Includes fair, but firm deadlines Where to start? 1. Start by thinking about your whole job and the broad areas (or “buckets”) of responsibility and results over which you have control. 2. Develop a goal statement for each bucket. To get the scale right, remember to focus on end results, rather than tasks. 3. Goals should be high level enough to include the core outcomes for which you are responsible, but specific and clear enough so you will be able to measure success. 4. Goals should be on-going job responsibilities and any new projects and assignments that are specific to this performance cycle. 5. Having too many goals can be an indicator that your goals are defined at too detailed a level and are focused more on tasks than on end results. 6. If it seems that your goals are becoming too many and focus on individual tasks, it may be helpful to consider combining several goal statements into a broader outcome area. 1. The author recommends SMART most probably because ______. A. he is a trainer for a major company B. it is a tool well supported by theory C. the readers need it for their future life D. teens are big dreamers but not doers 2. Xiao Ming, an average high school student, writes the following goal for the new semester: My goal is to raise my scores above 90(out of 100) in all my classes this semester because getting good scores will help me get into a good college. Which two criteria of SMART are seriously missing in Xiao Ming’s goal statement? A. Relevant, Measurable. B. Specific, Attainable. C. Measurable, Attainable. D. Relevance, Timely. 3. According to the guide’s Where to Start, which is the most important factor to consider? A. The sense of responsibility. B. The measurement of success. C. A good knowledge of tasks. D. The right level of goals. B 2. D 3. 根据第二段“This well-established tool for goal setting is highly influenced by Locke and Latham’s goal setting theory and used by almost every major company out there.(这个完善的目标设定工具深受洛克和莱瑟姆的目标设定理论的影响,几乎被所有大公司所使用。)” 小明的目标是“My goal is to raise my scores above 90 (out of 100) in all my classes this semester because getting good scores will help me get into a good college.(我的目标是本学期所有课程的成绩都要提高到90分以上(满分100分),因为取得好成绩可以帮助我进入一所好大学)”,根据表格中的“Relevant→It is consistent with your values, interests and other goals(相关→它与您的价值观,兴趣和其他目标一致)”和“Timely→Includes fair, but firm deadlines(适时→包括公平但严格的截止日期)”可知,小明的目标中缺乏与他的价值观、兴趣和其他目标一致的相关内容,并且没有目标达成的截止日期。 根据“Where to start”部分中的“2. Develop a goal statement for each bucket. To get the scale right, remember to focus on end results, rather than tasks.(2. 为每个目标制定一个目标声明。要获得正确的比例,记住关注最终结果,而不是任务。)”、“3. Goals should be high level enough to include the core outcomes for which you are responsible, but specific and clear enough so you will be able to measure success.(3. 目标应该足够高,包括你负责的核心结果,但也要足够具体和清晰,这样你才能衡量成功。)”、“4. Goals should be on-going job responsibilities and any new projects and assignments that are specific to this performance cycle.(4. 目标应该是正在进行的工作职责以及特定于此绩效周期的任何新项目和任务。)”、“5. Having too many goals can be an indicator that your goals are defined at too detailed a level and are focused more on tasks than on end results.(5. 目标太多可能表明你的目标定义得太详细,更关注任务而不是最终结果。)”和“6. If it seems that your goals are becoming too many and focus on individual tasks, it may be helpful to consider combining several goal statements into a broader outcome area.(6. 如果你的目标似乎变得太多,并且集中在单个任务上,那么考虑将几个目标声明合并到一个更广泛的结果领域可能会有所帮助。)”可知,这几条内容说明了制定目标要注意平衡,目标既要足够高,又要明确和清晰;应该是正在进行的工作职责以及特定于此绩效周期的任何新项目和任务;既不能将目标定得过于繁琐、注重具体任务,也不能过于宽泛,核心在于把握目标的“层次”或“范围”是否合适。故选D。 B For 78-year-old Wang Gaiying, the remote ancient building in Gaoping, Shanxi Province, is not only a hidden architectural treasure but also her home for the past 58 years. Its 24 vividly detailed statues have become popular online recently. With the main hall built in 1168, the structure was repaired and expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). Thanks to its recent popularity, the once-damaged building was restored and opened to the public on Aug. 24. Now many people come to admire it every day. As more people visit, Wang’s devotion to preserving the structure has gone viral and hit national headlines, giving a lot of publicity to these caretakers of the country’s cultural heritage. What makes Wang stand out is that her family has been guarding the building for four generations - cleaning it, keeping people from entering and preventing theft. Since getting married at 20, Wang began assisting her mother-in-law who became the guardian of the building in the 1950s. When she passed away in 1988, Wang took over the responsibility. With the passing years, it has been a challenge for her to preserve the structure. After discussions with her daughter and her son-in-law, the couple moved from their nearby home to the building to help Wang Gaiying. Just as promised, her daughter took on the role of part-time tour guide after graduating from college, joining her grandmother and mother in safeguarding it. In some ancient buildings that are not open to the public in the quiet mountains and countryside of Shanxi, more than 3,000 grassroots protectors like Wang Gaiying care for these rarely known ancient structures. The locals call them culture keepers, who watch over the structures day and night. Like unsung heroes, they have been preserving the past and ensuring that the cultural treasures of Shanxi are protected for future generations. 4. What can we learn about the ancient building? A. It has been open to the public since 1168. B. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty. C. It is located in a faraway region. D. It has been well maintained throughout its history. 5. What makes Wang’s work unique according to the passage? A. Her family’s joint efforts. B. Her selfless devotion. C. Her hard work. D. Her earlier-on participation. 6. What is the focus of Wang’s work? A. To guide the visitors. B. To attract more visitors. C. To preserve the structure. D. To make it known to the public. 7. What is the author’s attitude to the culture keepers? A. Objective. B. Supportive. C. Critical. D. Unclear. C 5. A 6. C 7. 根据文章第一段“For 78-year-old Wang Gaiying, the remote ancient building in Gaoping, Shanxi Province, is not only a hidden architectural treasure but also her home for the past 58 years. (对于78岁的王改英来说,位于山西省高平的这座偏远古建筑不仅是一处隐匿的建筑瑰宝,也是她过去58年的家。)”可知,这座古建筑位于山西高平的偏远区域。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“What makes Wang stand out is that her family has been guarding the building for four generations (让王改英脱颖而出的是,她的家族已经守护这座建筑四代人了)”可知,使王工作与众不同的是她家族共同的努力。故选A。 根据文章第二段“As more people visit, Wang’s devotion to preserving the structure has gone viral and hit national headlines, giving a lot of publicity to these caretakers of the country’s cultural heritage. What makes Wang stand out is that her family has been guarding the building for four generations - cleaning it, keeping people from entering and preventing theft. (随着参观人数的增多,王改英对保护这座建筑的执着精神广为流传,并登上了全国新闻头条,让这些国家文化遗产的守护者得到了大量曝光。让王改英脱颖而出的是,她的家族已经守护这座建筑四代人了——他们打扫建筑,阻止人们进入,并防止盗窃。)”可知,她的工作重点是保护古建筑。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The locals call them culture keepers, who watch over the structures day and night. Like unsung heroes, they have been preserving the past and ensuring that the cultural treasures of Shanxi are protected for future generations. (当地人称他们为文化守护者,他们日夜守护着这些建筑。他们就像无名英雄一样,一直在保护着历史,确保山西的文化瑰宝能够代代相传。)”可知,作者把文化工作者比作无名英雄,表达了对他们的支持赞赏的态度。故选B。 C A new study estimates more than l billion people worldwide are currently living with obesity. People with obesity are considered medically overweight. Researchers said around 43 percent of adults were overweight in 2022. Obesity among adults has more than doubled since 1990. Among young people aged 5 to 19, the obesity rate increased by four times during the same period. “A staggering number of people are living with obesity, and severe obesity is strongly linked to a long list of health problems and an early death,” declared the lead writer of the study, Majid Ezzati, a professor at Imperial College London. The WHO noted that at the World Health Assembly in 2022, member states agreed to an agency plan to fight obesity. So far, 31 governments “are now leading the way” to reduce obesity by carrying out goals of the plan, aiming to improve school and nutrition policies. They are also seeking price reductions for healthy foods to increase public awareness about healthy diets and exercise and to strengthen requirements for physical activity in schools. Imperial College London’s Ezzati said that obesity rates are not rising in many wealthier nations. But they are quickly increasing in other countries. He noted that some countries have many underweight people, meaning the nations are facing what he called a “double burden” of nutrition problems. Branca is head of nutrition at the WHO. He told reporters, “In the past, we have been thinking of obesity as a problem of the rich, but obesity problem of the world. Although new obesity drugs — such as Ozempic and Wegovy — could be helpful tools in reducing obesity, they noted that the cost and availability of the drugs might increase inequality.” 8. What does the underlined word “staggering” mean? A. Satisfying. B. Amazing. C. Astonishing. D. Puzzling. 9. What is included in the plan led by 31 governments? A. Setting laws to ban the sale of unhealthy food. B. Increasing the cost for people to consume healthy food. C. Attaching importance to physical activity. D. Offering lower-priced obesity drugs to people. 10. What does Ezati mean by mentioning the “double burden”? A. Some countries are suffering both poverty and obesity. B. Some countries are suffering both poor nutrition and obesity. C. Obesity is common in both poor and wealthy countries. D. Obesity is a heavy burden for some countries. 11. What is Branca’s attitude to the obesity problem? A. Negative. B. Indifferent. C. Ambiguous. D. Optimistic. C 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段“A new study estimates more than l billion people worldwide are currently living with obesity. People with obesity are considered medically overweight. Researchers said around 43 percent of adults were overweight in 2022. Obesity among adults has more than doubled since 1990. Among young people aged 5 to 19, the obesity rate increased by four times during the same period.(一项新的研究估计,全球目前有超过10亿人患有肥胖症。肥胖症患者被认为是医学上过重的。研究人员表示,2022年约有43%的成年人超重。自1990年以来,成人肥胖率翻了一番多。在5至19岁的年轻人中,肥胖率在同一时期增加了四倍。)”可知,第一段的数据表明肥胖的人数令人惊讶。故staggering的意思是“令人惊讶的”。A. 根据第三段中的“So far, 31 governments “are now leading the way” to reduce obesity by carrying out goals of the plan, aiming to improve school and nutrition policies. They are also seeking price reductions for healthy foods to increase public awareness about healthy diets and exercise and to strengthen requirements for physical activity in schools. (到目前为止,31个国家的政府正在通过实施该计划的目标来“带头”减少肥胖,旨在改善学校和营养政策。它们还在寻求降低健康食品的价格,以提高公众对健康饮食和锻炼的认识,并加强对学校体育活动的要求。)”可知,由31个政府主导的计划包括重视体育活动。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Imperial College London’s Ezzati said that obesity rates are not rising in many wealthier nations. But they are quickly increasing in other countries. He noted that some countries have many underweight people, meaning the nations are facing what he called a “double burden” of nutrition problems. (帝国理工学院的伊扎提说,许多富裕国家的肥胖率并没有上升。但在其他国家,这一数字正在迅速上升。他指出,一些国家有很多体重过轻的人,这意味着这些国家正面临着他所说的营养问题的“双重负担”。)”可知,提到“双重负担”意思是一些国家的人民既营养不良又肥胖。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“He told reporters, “In the past, we have been thinking of obesity as a problem of the rich, but obesity problem of the world. Although new obesity drugs — such as Ozempic and Wegovy — could be helpful tools in reducing obesity, they noted that the cost and availability of the drugs might increase inequality.” (他告诉记者:“过去,我们一直认为肥胖是富人的问题,但肥胖是全世界的问题。尽管新的减肥药——比如Ozempic和wegov——可能是减少肥胖的有用工具,但他们指出,这些药物的成本和可获得性可能会增加不平等。”)”可推知,布兰卡对肥胖问题的态度是消极的。故选A。 D For the arts “to mean more, to more people,” as Arts Council England (ACE) argues that they should, would be excellent. Music, drama, dance, visual arts, poetry and literature are among the most precious human achievements. To live in a country in which these are more widely shared and enjoyed would be proof that we are making progress. The point is not to entertain or educate people, or bring communities together. Nor is it all about boosting jobs and investment. Imagination has intrinsic (内在的) value, and research carried out by ACE in the course of preparing its 10-year strategy showed that people from all walks of life value and get pleasure from cultural activities. Positioning itself as a development agency, ACE will now hope to win government backing for a change of direction that orients it away from the biggest and most prestigious national institutions and towards the towns, villages and grassroots organizations that should be similarly deserving of attention. There, it envisions a role for itself “building the identity and prosperity of places,” bringing professional artists together with voluntary groups, particular in areas that have previously not been well represented on the cultural map. ACE’s chair, Sir Nicholas Serota, quotes the first world war centenary (百年纪念) project devised by the artist, Jeremy Deller, and theatre director, Rufus Norris, as the model of what he wants his organization to be about. By dressing up volunteers as soldiers, and orchestrating their encounters with members of the public in settings across England, the artists succeeded in “dissolving the barriers between artists and audiences.” The emphasis on participation — on culture as something that more people should actually do — is newer. This is the difference between being in a play or a band and buying tickets to watch them, and for ACE to play a more active role in promoting the former would be beneficial. This begins in childhood, and ACE clearly hopes that the government will think again about policies that have seen music, drama and other arts subjects systematically downgraded in favour of science, technology and maths. To what extent the vision is realized will depend in part on whether ACE’s ambitions catch the government’s interest sufficiently to influence the upcoming spending review, and provide a counterweight to the scorn (轻视) that is regularly poured on the humanities. Around £400m has been cut from local government arts budgets since 2010, and ACE cannot plug this gap. The closure of youth clubs and live music venues, and growing financial pressures linked to the property market, are among other reasons for this worrisome narrowing of opportunities. So far Boris Johnson has offered few signs that he has in mind a starring role for the arts in post-Brexit Britain, although 2022’s Festival of Brexit is one such event. ACE’s plan should boost the profile of all those, in government and outside, who are arguing for more. 12. The purpose of making arts available to more people is to __________. A. enlighten people from all walks of life B. consolidate various communities C. create job opportunities for artists D. maximize the natural value of art 13. According to the passage, ACE is most likely to promote the arts of ___________. A. national institutions B. commercial centers C. local governments D. towns and villages 14. Which of the following statements would Sir Nicholas Serota most probably agree with? A. Audiences with little education can also gain pleasure from cultural activities. B. Artists and audiences can create and enjoy the arts together without barriers. C. The soldiers and volunteers should vividly show scenes about the First World War. D. Science, technology and maths are more important than humanities and arts nowadays. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. For the arts to get revitalized more extensive efforts are needed. B. The current British government has done enough to promote arts. C. ACE should narrow the financial gap left by the local government. D. Many performing venues have closed due to the rising property market. D 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段“For the arts “to mean more, to more people,” as Arts Council England (ACE) argues that they should, would be excellent. Music, drama, dance, visual arts, poetry and literature are among the most precious human achievements. To live in a country in which these are more widely shared and enjoyed would be proof that we are making progress.”(正如英格兰艺术委员会(ACE)所主张的那样,艺术“对更多人意味着更多”是非常好的。 根据第二段“Positioning itself as a development agency, ACE will now hope to win government backing for a change of direction that orients it away from the biggest and most prestigious national institutions and towards the towns, villages and grassroots organizations that should be similarly deserving of attention.”(作为一个发展机构,ACE现在希望赢得政府的支持,以改变其方向,使其远离最大和最负盛名的国家机构,转向同样值得关注的城镇、村庄和基层组织。) 根据第三段“ACE’s chair, Sir Nicholas Serota, quotes the first world war centenary (百年纪念) project devised by the artist, Jeremy Deller, and theatre director, Rufus Norris, as the model of what he wants his organization to be about. By dressing up volunteers as soldiers, and orchestrating their encounters with members of the public in settings across England, the artists succeeded in “dissolving the barriers between artists and audiences.”(ACE主席Nicholas Serota爵士引用艺术家 Jeremy Deller 和戏剧导演 Rufus Norris设计的第一次世界大战百年纪念项目,作为他希望自己组织成为什么样的榜样。通过让志愿者装扮成士兵,并在英格兰各地的环境中安排他们与公众的相遇,艺术家们成功地“消除了艺术家和观众之间的障碍。”)可知,ACE主席Nicholas Serota爵士希望ACE能够像第一次世界大战百年纪念项目一样,消除艺术家和观众之间的障碍,让艺术家和观众能够一起创造和享受艺术。故选B。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“To what extent the vision is realized will depend in part on whether ACE’s ambitions catch the government’s interest sufficiently to influence the upcoming spending review, and provide a counterweight to the scorn (轻视) that is regularly poured on the humanities.”(这一愿景在多大程度上得以实现,将在一定程度上取决于ACE雄心是否足以引起政府的兴趣,从而影响即将到来的支出审查,并制衡人们对人文学科的蔑视)以及“So far Boris Johnson has offered few signs that he has in mind a starring role for the arts in post-Brexit Britain, although 2022’s Festival of Brexit is one such event. ACE’s plan should boost the profile of all those, in government and outside, who are arguing for more.”(到目前为止,Boris Johnson几乎没有迹象表明他打算在英国脱欧后的英国扮演主角,尽管2022年的英国脱欧节是这样一个事件。ACE 的计划应该会提高政府内外所有主张更多的人的形象。)可知,ACE 的计划能否实现,部分取决于ACE的雄心是否能引起政府的兴趣,从而影响即将到来的支出审查,并为经常被轻视的人文学科提供一个平衡。ACE的计划应该会提高政府内外所有主张更多的人的形象。由此可知,要使艺术得到振兴,需要更广泛的努力。故选A。 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you frequently depressed by the feeling that life is leaving you behind particularly when you look over social media sites and are faced with all the exciting things your friends are up to? ____16____ FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out refers to the perception that other people’s lives are superior to our own. It appears as a deep sense of envy, and constant exposure to it can have a weakening effect on our self-esteem(自尊). While feelings of envy and lack of confidence seem to be human nature, social media seems to have added fuel to the fire.____17____Social media, with its built-in appeal, allows us to share only the best presentations of our life, while leaving out the more boring aspects. Although this could be characterized as dishonest, it is the atmosphere social media seems to demand. So how do we avoid being trapped into our own insecurities by social media? Consider your own social media posts.____18____Well, so have others. And what they’ve left hidden is the fact that boredom, loneliness and unpleasant chores are an unavoidable part of everyone’s life, and you’re not the only one feeling left out. ____19____You may not be a regular at fancy parties or a climber of dizzying peaks, but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives. Learn to shake it off. We are all flooded daily with photos of other people’s perfections, but really, what does it matter?____20____And even if you are more easily affected than others by social media envy, all you need to do is to look around you and acknowledge that you are doing pretty well after all. A. If so, you are not alone. B. Value your friends in real life. C. Learn to appreciate the positives. D. Why does it have such a stimulating effect? E. They are probably no more real than the funniest reality TV show. F. The feeling that we are left out has long-term damaging psychological consequences. G. Have you ever chosen photos that lead others to the rosiest conclusions about your life? 【答案】16. A 17. D 18. G 19. C 20. E 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何避免社交媒体中的嫉妒感。 【16题详解】 根据前句“Are you frequently depressed by the feeling that life is leaving you behind particularly when you look over social media sites and are faced with all the exciting things your friends are up to?(你是否经常感到生活离你而去,尤其是当你浏览社交媒体网站时,面对着朋友们正在做的所有令人兴奋的事情?)”及下一段“FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out refers to the perception that other people’s lives are superior to our own. It appears as a deep sense of envy, and constant exposure to it can have a weakening effect on our self-esteem(自尊).(FOMO指的是别人的生活比我们自己的生活更优越的看法。它表现为一种强烈的嫉妒感,持续暴露在这种情绪下会削弱我们的自尊。)”可知,空处为承上启下句,即强烈的嫉妒感是很多人都有的感觉,引出下文对FOMO的介绍。所以选择项A“If so, you are not alone.(如果是这样,你并不孤单。)”符合上下文语境。故选A。 【17题详解】 根据前句“While feelings of envy and lack of confidence seem to be human nature, social media seems to have added fuel to the fire. (嫉妒和缺乏自信似乎是人类的天性,而社交媒体似乎在火上浇油。)”和后文“Social media, with its built-in appeal, allows us to share only the best presentations of our life, while leaving out the more boring aspects. Although this could be characterized as dishonest, it is the atmosphere social media seems to demand. (社交媒体,以其固有的吸引力,让我们只分享我们生活中最好的一面,而忽略了更无聊的方面。虽然这可以被定性为不诚实,但这似乎是社交媒体所需要的氛围。)”可知,空处提问社交媒体为什么会有火上浇油的刺激作用,以引出下文对其原因的介绍。所以选择项D“Why does it have such a stimulating effect? (为什么它有这样的刺激作用?)”符合上下文语境。故选D。 【18题详解】 根据前句“Consider your own social media posts. (考虑一下你自己的社交媒体帖子。)”和后文“Well, so have others. And what they’ve left hidden is the fact that boredom, loneliness and unpleasant chores are an unavoidable part of everyone’s life, and you’re not the only one feeling left out. (其他人也是如此。而他们所隐藏的事实是,无聊、孤独和不愉快的家务是每个人生活中不可避免的一部分,你不是唯一一个被忽略的人。)”可知,呈现在社交媒体上一般都是经过选择过的,代表生活美好方面的。所以选择项G“Have you ever chosen photos that lead others to the rosiest conclusions about your life? (你有没有选择过一些照片,让别人对你的生活得出最美好的结论?)”符合上下文语境。故选G。 【19题详解】 空处为本段主题句,根据后文“You may not be a regular at fancy parties or a climber of dizzying peaks, but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives. (你可能不是高档派对的常客,也不是攀登令人眼花缭乱的高峰的人,但你有健康的身体,有居住的地方,有真正的朋友,他们会欣赏你在他们生活中的存在。)”可知,本段主要介绍要学会欣赏积极的事物。所以选择项C“Learn to appreciate the positives. (学会欣赏积极的事物。)”符合上下文语境。故选C。 【20题详解】 根据前句“We are all flooded daily with photos of other people’s perfections, but really, what does it matter? (我们每天都被别人完美的照片淹没,但说真的,这有什么关系呢?)”可知,我们不能社交媒体上的完美照片的影响,因为它们不一定是真实的。所以选择项E“They are probably no more real than the funniest reality TV show. (它们可能并不比最有趣的电视真人秀更真实。)”符合上下文语境。故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 One of my major life- turning point s happened during my exchange study in Finland. She cried sadly and told her mother that she failed to be chosen for the school basketball team. And Liz kept saying that she was an unlucky girl. Susan knew that her daughter enjoyed playing basketball and had been practicing hard for the chance, so she must be terribly sad. After knowing about the situation, Susan decided to cheer her daughter up. She went over to Liz, asking, “ Would you like to come with me to the supermarket and be my helper ?” To Susan’ s surprise, Liz agreed at once. Susan then gave Liz twenty dollars and a shopping list, saying she could use the change to get a treat for herself. Liz was excited and rushed away to get ready. When they arrived at the supermarket, Susan advised Liz to put the twenty-dollar note in her pocket. Liz helped her mother collect goods and fill the shopping cart (购物车) while keeping an eye out for the things she wanted. She worked out how much change she would have, and then chose an apple pie as her treat. With all goods collected, Liz went to the checkout counter (收银台) happily. Just then, she found her twenty-dollar note was gone! In tears, she rushed to her mother and told her about that. “What a bad day! I’ve met so many terrible things today!” she cried. “Take it easy. We’ll go to the help counter and see what the workers can do,” Susan comforted her. The workers at the help counter made an announcement (公告) over the loudspeaker, “We have a little girl here who’ s very sad because she lost the twenty-dollar note her mother had given her for shopping. Liz felt highly excited. “Thanks, but where is the lady? I want to thank her. She has brightened up my day,” said Liz. The worker pointed to a woman who was just leaving the store. Susan asked Liz to wait and ran to catch up with the lady. The lady stopped and Susan expressed her thankfulness sincerely. Then she asked the lady where she’d found the money. “Well, actually I didn’t find the note. I gave away my twenty-dollar note,” the lady said. That shocked Susan. “I just wanted to cheer up an upset little girl,” she added and rushed away before Susan could get her name and number, or give her the money back. When Susan told the truth to Liz, she was greatly moved instead of feeling disappointed. Though it was unexpected, the kind-hearted lady still changed her bad day into a lucky day. Encouraged by the experience, Liz decided to always remain positive no matter what happened. 词汇激活 行为类 感谢:express/convey 获得:get/obtain 鼓舞:encourage/inspire 情绪类 感谢:thankfulness /gratitude 激动:excited /thrilled 【点睛】[高分句型1] Then she asked the lady where she’d found the money. A. C A new study estimates more than l billion people worldwide are currently living with obesity. C. Ambiguous. D. Optimistic. D For the arts “to mean more, to more people,” as Arts Council England (ACE) argues that they should, would be excellent. Positioning itself as a development agency ACE will now hope to win government backing for a change of direction that orients it away from the biggest and most prestigious national institutions and towards the towns, villages and grassroots organizations that should be similarly deserving of attention. 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you frequently depressed by the feeling that life is leaving you behind particularly when you look over social media sites and are faced with all the exciting things your friends are up to? ____16____ FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out refers to the perception that other people’s lives are superior to our own. If anyone finds the money, please kindly bring it to the help counter.” 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 Moments later, a worker gave Liz a twenty-dollar note, saying a lady just handed it over. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Well , actually I didn’t find the note.
