When we first met in a camp, we both felt that we’d be friends forever. So it was hard to imagine that I would disagree with her on some things. Whatever we did, we were always together. And the more time we spent together, the more we realized how amazingly similar we were. But then something happened in another summer camp. “Have you heard about the shopping-mall news?” asked one of our friends Levar. “They want to cut down some trees to make shopping center.” “That’s terrible!” I said. “We have to stop that. ” “I differ with you on that point,” said Karina. “My parents said the shopping center would make new jobs for people who really need work.” “But think of all the birds that would lose their homes!” I said. “I want people to have jobs, but it doesn’t mean cutting down trees.” “Don’t you think people’s jobs are more important?” Karina asked. “Maybe two people with opposite points of view just aren’t meant to be friends,” I was thinking. Just then, Levar jumped up and broke the silence. “Let’s see who can do the high kick (回旋踢)!” Tyler took the challenge, Karina followed, and I finally joined them. Even though I wished Karina had agreed with me about saving the trees, I realized she had her reasons to support what she did. Recently, a digital protection project for traditional Chinese instrumental music was produced. The project planned to make traditional music alive again by using digital technology to save the original audio sources (原始音频源). Based on these sources, it is possible to create digital albums (专辑), social media mini-programs and game background music. These are ways of spreading and passing down music. The first traditional instrument to get this kind of rebirth was an ancient set of bianzhong of Zenghouyi. As the largest set of bianzhong discovered in China, it needs many people to complete together during the play. This made it difficult for team members to start their job. To perfectly restore the sounds of it, the team members thought for a long time. And they tried many times, too. Yang Jie, a designer from the team said, “At first, we tried to find the proper place to put the recording microphone after reading a lot of papers and historical information. As they use digital technology too much, they are losing their ability to do simple things. They can’t make toys themselves with hands or help Mom cook dinner. And worst of all, they seem to be losing interest in communicating with others. “I have talked with a number of teachers. They told me that a great number of young students play with computers or smart phones, but these students have few or no skills to make things,” said a teacher, Colin Kinney. “Many pupils can’t communicate with other pupils but their parents talk proudly of their ability to use a computer or a smartphone.” Instead of playing with other children, more and more children are choosing to stay indoors and quietly play on a tablet (平板电脑) on weekends and after school. How can a child grow up to be a very good artist if he doesn’t learn how to use a paintbrush and develop his painting skill? How can a child learn to make friends as he gets older if he doesn’t learn to communicate with others at a young age? Digital technology can be used for good or bad. We can use a stone to either break a window or build a house. We shouldn’t condemn (指责) the children. We should help them make right choices. It is certainly necessary for children to know how to use digital technology in today’s world. But what is more crucial, we should encourage them to develop social abilities. 1.What is the worst problem according to paragraph 1? A.Children can’t make things themselves. Passage 14 (24-25九年级上·河北秦皇岛·期中)The Chinese Pingfeng is an ancient invention and traditional Chinese furniture (家具) . Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The term Pingfeng means protection from wind, showing its purpose at the very beginning. As time passes by, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It stands for power. The crane(仙鹤) , a beautiful bird, can be seen on screens, too. It's a symbol of long life. Beautiful flowers, which mean wealth and good luck, are also chosen as a popular design (设计) of the Pingfeng. All the designs carry people’s beautiful wishes. Behind Pingfeng lies a beautiful story. In the past, the unmarried daughter of a rich family was not supposed to see or be seen by men except her father, brothers or very close male (男性) cousins. When an admirer paid a visit, however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind which she would be completely hidden. Her father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to construct one. If the daughter and her father were satisfied with the young man's poem and his looks, she might agree to take him as a husband. Today Pingfeng is back in fashion for its beauty and its practical use as furniture. Acting as a moving wall or divider, it can be the perfect match (相配) for modern sofas and walls, which adds style to them. Pingfeng is more than beautiful furniture. 1.What was Pingfeng used to do at the beginning? A.To protect people from wind. B.To divide a room. C.To make a room beautiful. A.Different Styles of the Pingfeng B.Different stories of the Pingfeng C.The Practical Use of the Pingfeng D.The Hidden Beauty of the Pingfeng Passage 15 (24-25九年级上·河北石家庄·期中)A tree has roots (根). Problems have roots too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It’s the same thing with words. Dig deeply into a big, unfamiliar (不熟悉的) word and you will understand where it came from. As readers, we need to deal with the text as if we were detectives (侦探) looking for information to unlock the unknown. Like any good detective arriving on the crime scene, the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to judge the situation, to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to understand what it means. As you know, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will have the word building power. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these, put them in your memory, and you will become a master word detective. Read the chart below. *If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. You are alternating paying. *If you go to the movies on alternate Saturdays, you go on one Saturday, but not the other Saturday. *If you have no alternative, you have no other choice. Let’s look at one common root word used in English. “Alter” from the Latin word means “other”. When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with “other”. Examine the word “alternate”. Can you find the Latin root in it? Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your “rooting for words” skills. Like any new skill, practice and hard work are always paid back. 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.The situation. B.The crime scene. C.A new and difficult word. D.Everything that is known. 2.If Jim and Lily go to the movies, which one below is “alternating paying”? A.They each pay half. B.Jim pays every time. C.They take turns paying. D.Their parents pay for them. 3.How does the writer explain his ideas about root words? A.By giving a fact. B.By taking an example. C.By telling a story. D.By having a discussion. 4.“Sen” from the Latin word means “old”. Which word uses this Latin root? A.My brother is my senior by two years. B.He was ill so he was absent from school. C.A criminal was sentenced to death by law. D.60 students were present at the sports meeting. 5.What is the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph) A. B. C. D. Passage 16 (24-25九年级上·河北石家庄·期中)One of the greatest pleasures for me in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema because it’s a chance for me to get excited and relaxed. There’s nothing better than being lost in a story unless, of course, someone decides to break down the moment. Whether at a cinema or a huge theater, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! There is an accepted way of behaving at the cinema which some people don’t seem to understand. To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and makes a lot of noise. And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the film. I’m not alone in this situation. Simon, a film critic (评论家) at the BBC, experienced a “new low” during a film. He says, “The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!” Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers (电影观众) should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—the most serious offence (冒犯). Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to, but we mustn’t forget our fellow (同伴) moviegoers who want to enjoy the film, either. The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. It’s your choice! What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema? 1.Why does the writer enjoy going to the cinema? A.It makes him feel like being at home. B.It gives him a moment to get excited and relaxed. C.He prefers watching the films on big screens with other moviegoers. D.He wants to enjoy the film. 2.What do the underlined words “turn up” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.leave B.stand up C.get up D.appear 3.What can’t the writer stand most at a cinema? A.Chatting to their friends. B.Turning up late. C.Eating popcorn. D.Having drinks. 4.What is considered by Simon to be the rudest at a cinema? A.Talking on the mobile phones. B.Chatting to their friends. C.Taking the shoes off. D.Having drinks and eating popcorn. 5.What is the best title for the text? A.How to Choose Popular Cinemas B.To Be A Serious Film Critic C.Mind Cinema Manners D.An Unpleasant Experience Passage 17 (24-25九年级上·河北保定·期中)Have you ever had a question in your mind about why we Chinese people are still using chopsticks? Why don’t we use forks and knives? Chopsticks are kitchen and eating tools. They have been used all over East Asia for over 2,000 years. They were first invented and used by the Chinese during the Zhou Dynasty. Chopsticks later spread to other countries across East, South and South East Asia. They are usually made of bamboo or wood. But at first, chopsticks are not used as eating tools. They were probably used for cooking such as stirring (搅拌) the fire. Then people found it was convenient to eat by using chopsticks. Then chopsticks began to be used as eating tools during the Han Dynasty. Why not use forks and knives? In our mind, forks and knives are made of metal (金属). They are more similar to weapons. How could dangerous weapons be used on the eating tables? And can you imagine how terrible it is to use forks and knives while we are taking food out of the hot pot? Then chopsticks perfectly solve this problem. What’s more, we believe in the idea of being simple. With the two sticks, we can do many things. Also, chopsticks contain (包含) the principle (理念) of “Yin and Yang”. Besides, if you take a close look at the chopsticks, you will find the chopsticks are round on one side and square on the other side. So the round side means the sky and the square side means the earth. And when we hold chopsticks, our fingers are between the two sticks. That’s our understanding of the relationship between man and the world. 1.Why does the writer ask two questions at the beginning of the text? A.To introduce the topic of the text. B.To show the importance of chopsticks. C.To describe the influence of chopsticks. D.To predict the future of chopsticks. 2.Which question’s answer can’t be found in Paragraph 2? A.When were chopsticks invented? B.Why are we still using chopsticks? C.What are chopsticks made of? D.What were chopsticks first used for? 3.Which of the following may be a kind of “weapons” ? A.Guns. B.Grapes. C.Chopsticks. D.Caps. 4.What does the writer mainly want to show in the last paragraph? A.Chopsticks are the perfect eating tools. B.Chopsticks contain much Chinese culture. C.People hold chopsticks between the two sticks. D.The two sides of the chopsticks mean the earth and the sky. 5.Which can be a proper title for the text? A.The History of Chopsticks B.Chopsticks and Cooking C.Culture in Chinese Chopsticks D.Chopsticks or Forks and Knives Passage 18 (24-25九年级上·河北石家庄·期中)This year marks the 21st anniversary (周年纪念) of China’s first manned space task, with Yang Liwei becoming the first Chinese astronaut to go to space. Since then, another 23 astronauts have reached for the stars. The choice of the fourth generation (代) of astronauts began in 2022 and is now in full swing. Experts showed how difficult the training is before astronauts can rise to space. “To make sure that Chinese astronauts accomplish their tasks and return to Earth safely, eight kinds, including over 200 subjects of training, were set,” Huang Weifen, leading designer of the astronaut system for China’s manned space project, told CCTV News. Apart from physical fitness training, it also includes basic scientific knowledge, health, and so on. Among the training subjects, the most tiring one is underwater training. This training is designed for astronauts to get used to the microgravity (微重力) environment in space. According to Huang, astronauts stay underwater in suits weighing over 100 kilograms for six hours at a time. Water resistance (阻力) and the heavy suit make every move tiring. “Nie Haisheng once reported he lost two kilos after one under-water training exercise,” said Huang. Each astronaut receives training for at least three and a half years before having the chance to go to space. Chinese astronauts also require language and cultural training to have better communication with their international partners. Their strong mind and hard work have made China a great player in the space race, and they continue to encourage future generations to reach for the stars. 1.How many Chinese astronauts have reached for the stars so far? A.Nineteen. B.twenty. C.twenty-three. D.twenty-four. 2.Which word is close to the underlined word “accomplish”? A.To make their life in space more interesting. B.To communicate with foreign astronauts better. C.To inspire future generations to study for the stars. D.To keep them not stop learning even in the space. 5.What is the text mainly about? A.The Chinese astronauts’ hard training. B.The great achievements of Chinese space field. C.The rapid development of Chinese space field. D.The future training plans of Chinese astronauts. Passage 19 (24-25九年级上·河北衡水·期中)Chen Lin is a doctor who is from Hengyang. After his graduation from Peking University, he works in an office for a large organization. And this job can sometimes be just as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer. Chen Lin works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生). MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster (灾难). Chen Lin has travelled to many places to organize programs that help people in need. At present, there are about 27,000 trained medical staff taking part in MSF projects and tasks. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. Now, the country is breaking its own speed record with CR450. CR450 can travel at 400 kilometers per hour on average, with a top speed hitting 453km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train operating in a rail network in the world is China’s CR400, which runs at 350km/h on average. Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment. “The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake accurately (精准地) and steadily (平稳地),” Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. The standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance as the CR400, which is 6,500 meters, even though it travels a lot faster. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds compared to the 2.3 seconds needed for the CR400. The engineers did lots of tests with the brakes to make the system better. In the tests, the brake disc (制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700℃. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system for calculations. Apart from having a better braking system, the CR450 has the same noise level as the CR400. Moreover, it is 12 percent lighter and 20 percent less energy-consuming, according to CCTV News. With all its advantages, people are getting excited about the train’s debut, which is planned to be on show this year. 1.According to Zhao Hongwei, what is “the key” to CR450? A.Increasing the train’s speed. B.Making it brake accurately and steadily. C.Having shorter braking distance. D.Starting to brake in a shorter time. 2.Compared to the CR400, the braking time of the CR450 ________. Karina is my best friend. They form when sunlight falls on water drops in the air. But in fact, moonlight can also create rainbows in the same way. They are called “moonbows”. They are similar to rainbows, but they are created by moonlight instead of direct sunlight. ②Moonbows are less common than rainbows. Different weather and astronomical (天文学的) conditions have to be just right for moonbows to be created. ③The moon has to be very low in the sky—only 42 degrees from the horizon (地平线). The moon period has to be a full moon or nearly full. The sky must be very dark for a moonbow to be watched clearly—any bright light can obscure it. Water drops must appear in the air in the opposite direction of the moon. ④Moonbows appear on the opposite side of the moon and usually look white to the human eye. This is because their colors are not bright enough to be noticed by the human eye. It is possible, however, to view the colors in a moonbow using long exposure (长时间曝光) photography. ⑤Moonbows more often appear in some locations around the world. Most of these locations usually have waterfalls, which create thin fog in the air. Some of these locations are the Yosemite National Park in California and Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky, US;Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe; and Waimea in Hawaii. B.Children make too many friends online. C.Children don’t want to communicate with others. D.Children don’t like helping Mom cook meals at home. 2.According to Colin Kinney, which of the following is TRUE? A.Teachers are excited that their students play computer games. B.Teachers notice that young kids have more skills to make things. C.Many parents are happy that their kids can use digital technology. D.Some parents are worried that their kids use digital technology too much. 3.What do many young children choose to do on weekends and after school? A.Play on a tablet indoors. B. C. D. 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B 4.A 5.B 【导语】本文主要讲述了在语言学习中,词根学习的重要性。 1.词义猜测题。根据第二段“the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to judge the situation, to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to understand what it means.”可知,it指的是一个新的难词。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据“If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. A.How to Choose Popular Cinemas B.To Be A Serious Film Critic C.Mind Cinema Manners D.An Unpleasant Experience 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.C 5.C 【导语】本文主要讲述了有关电影礼仪的一些情况。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“One of the greatest pleasures for me in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema because it’s a chance for me to get excited and relaxed.”可知,作者喜欢去电影院因为可以让他感到兴奋和放松,故选B。 2.词义猜测题。根据“To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past.”可知,有些人总是会晚来,导致你要站起来让他们通过,所以“turn up”的意思为出现,与“appear”意思一致,故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据“And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the film.”可知,作者最不能忍受的是那些聊天的人,故选A。 4.细节理解题。根据“and another is not to take your shoes off—the most serious offence (冒犯)”可知,Simon认为在电影院最粗鲁的行为是脱鞋子,故选C。 5.最佳标题题。根据全文内容及“Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema.”可知,文章主要讨论的是电影院的礼仪,因此最好的标题是Mind Cinema Manners,故选C。 Passage 17 (24-25九年级上·河北保定·期中)Have you ever had a question in your mind about why we Chinese people are still using chopsticks?
