Passage 1
Starting high school is a great experience for every teenager. Whether you are coming from the countryside or the city, there are many things about high school that are different from your old school environment. 1 .
You will face being in a new school, making new friends in an unfamiliar class and getting to know new teachers. These new teachers will usually have a higher academic (学术的) level than your junior high school teachers. 2 . In return, they expect you to work hard and develop your skills. On top of all this, peer pressure to drink and smoke often increases in high school. 3 .
Although there is a lot of pressure, it is nothing you cannot deal with. If you are feeling pressure to do something that you feel is wrong, talk to a friend, parent or counsellor to find a solution. 4 . If you are not successful academically, find someone to help you. If you feel lonely, try to join a school club or group to make new friends.
5 . With time, you will come to be thankful for everything about your experience. On the point of starting your high school, are you ready?
A.You will experience many changes.
B.They want to help you get into college.
C.High school may seem discouraging at first.
D.You can make friends at senior high school easily.
E.They are there to help you get into this great new time in your life.
F.High school is difficult for those who are not well prepared at first.
G.Besides, the pressure could also come from grades, loneliness and so on.
Passage 2
Ten years ago, not many families in the United States would consider homeschooling a serious option for their children. There were negative feelings about homeschooling, especially among school educators, who considered it crazy or irresponsible. But things have changed now. 6 As homeschooling becomes more widely practiced, school communities are becoming far more accepting and recognize that it can meet real needs.
7 Homeschooling provides a community life that is valuable to children. Participating in community life, homeschooled children relate socially with a wide variety of people. 8 Without social pressure from age-separated classrooms, kids feel more comfortable forming friendships.
9 We often hear parents and kids talk about how relieved they feel from being freed of traditional schooling and nightly homework. With independent learning, they have more time to talk and listen; more time to spend in libraries, museums, and concert halls; or to hike, ride bikes, read, or think. These changes are what happens when family life is driven by the needs of families, rather than the needs of institutions.
Homeschooling also creates better learning environments for children who have been wrongly considered as having all sorts of imaginary “learning problems" in public and private schools. The educators want the children to be fixed so that they will fit; the parents correctly sense that their children are fine and only need something different: more space, freedom to move, a safe environment, or respectful treatment from others. 10
A.Homeschooling helps children broaden their knowledge.
B.In homeschooling families, life is likely to be less stressful.
C.Some people choose homeschooling for socialization benefits.
D.Homeschooling success stories are often reported in the media.
E.People can see how easy it is to get along with homeschooled kids.
F.For these families, homeschooling helps a child build a life that works.
G.The combination of two kinds of schooling has a great effect on a child.
Passage 3
How to Make the Most of Your Time
Time management is important in our daily life. 11 Here are some tips that might be of some help to you.
Set up a plan.
Go through a week at a time, and prioritize (优先) the things you want to finish. 12
13
No matter what kind of pressure mounts on you, try to keep cool. Stressing out can lead to an early breakdown, which is definitely counterproductive (事与愿违的) when you have a list of things to do. It is easier to take a 10-minute break and cool off than work all week with stress.
Shut your door.
When working under a schedule, perform your important tasks with your door shut to get them done. 14
Focus on one thing at a time.
Forget trying to multitask! You will lose concentration, and it will take you longer to accomplish what you set out to do.
Relax.
The most important thing is to remember to take time to relax, and regroup. 15 Even if it’s a 10-minute walk, get away from your list and get refreshed.
As people today get busier and busier, it’s important for your own mental health to keep things on track. Don’t delay, get your life in order now.
A.Control your stress.
B.Stop wasting time on the phone.
C.Focus mostly on the things that are important to you.
D.Do your best, but keep realistic expectations of yourself.
E.You need a break every now and then to keep working efficiently.
F.This will ensure the time of a higher quality to get what needs to be done.
G.There never seems to be enough hours in the day to finish all you need to do.
Passage 4
Everyone at some time feels that their life is going nowhere -and fast. If you do feel these things, then it is time to do something to increase the quality of your life. 16
Treat yourself.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a meal out, or a visit to a theater. Make the first thing you do a treat you have been hoping for. Don’t make excuses about not having time or money. 17 It’s not hard to organize some time in your day if you want to. Remember, no more excuses! You are worth it!
18
Hobbies are brilliant for giving you something different to do. Maybe they are crafting, painting, or other hobbies. The whole point of a hobby is that it is something for you, so it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you enjoy it and can be attracted by it.
Help others.
19 Not only do you feel good about yourself, but other people will benefit from what you do. You might offer to help in a special shop or to do some gardening for an older person. Helping others will make you feel that you have something to offer the world.
Life is good. You are lucky to be alive. Make the most of the years you have on Earth, enjoy them, don’t waste them being negative. Follow the advice above and you will surely increase the quality of your life. 20
A.Take up a hobby.
B.Remember a hobby.
C.Be positive, and be happy.
D.Treats can be free, and you can always make time.

Talk to them about organizations with which they are involved. You might discover new activities to explore. And those activities might be key to helping you find your purpose.

Passage 1
Whether you’re jumping in a pool to cool off or spending time at the beach, lake, or river, attention to detail helps keep the day safe. Here are five tips for a safer swimming experience.
Never swim alone.
26 Even with a lifeguard around, it’s good to have someone with you in the water or watching on the shore. Children and inexperienced swimmers should always have someone nearby, watching them.
Swim in defined (界定的) areas.
The defined swimming areas are the safest places to swim if you’re at the lake, beach, or river. In a pool, the deep and shallow (浅的) ends are often marked with lines. 27
Stay aware of weather conditions.
Summer weather can change fast. Check the weather report before you go swimming, and keep an eye on it while swimming. 28 It is never safe to swim in a storm.
29
Make sure someone other than those with you knows where you are. Recognize your limits. If you begin to get tired, get out of the water to rest. Know where to get help quickly if an emergency comes up. Good planning helps you be ready for anything.
Take swimming lessons.
30 If you don’t know how to swim, it’s never too late to learn. If you want to improve your skills, take an advanced class. Remember, being able to swim can make your time in the water safer and more enjoyable.
A.Make full preparations.
B.Always swim with a partner.
C.Be prepared for emergencies.
D.It is necessary to warm up before swimming.
E.This allows swimmers to choose areas that match their abilities.
F.If the weather begins changing for the worse, get out of the water.
G.No matter your experience, there’s always a swimming class that fits your needs.

Passage 1
When you learn a new subject, you may always consider how much time you need to truly understand it all. Here we give you some advice about how to study, so you’ll be able to take in more information with shorter study sessions (时段).
Study in small sessions. Our ability to store the information we take reduces (降低) after around 30 minutes, so you'd better cut your studying sessions into smaller parts. 31
Find a study area. Don't study in a place where you sleep!Don't study in your bed, where you play games, or in front of the TV. Why? 32 You need to program your mind to study in a place where you always study and nowhere else.
Take good notes. 33 And review them after class to increase your understanding.
34 To be a good student, you should be a good teacher. You cannot teach something you do not know.
Read your textbook effectively (有效地). Always use the SQ3R method. You need to survey, question, read, recite (背诵), review to actively remember the information. 35
A.Train your mind.
B.Just reading it is not enough.
C.Be ready to teach what you've learned.
D.It's a good idea to study in a familiar place.
E.You can do some fun activities during your breaks.
F.Find a notetaking method that works best for you.
G.Doing so will only mix up your mind as to what to do.
Passage 2
Improving your focus can make you a better student or employee as well as a happier and more organized person. 36
Create a clean environment. When it’s a task where you are seated at a desk, then you will need to clean the desk area and become more organized. Let’s suppose you are trying to quit smoking. 37 In other words, on your quit date the house and car you occupy need to be “smokeless" in every way. No ashtrays, lighters, etc.
38 For example, if your intention is to be a non-smoker then you are more likely to succeed hanging out in a local gym instead of a local bar. Choose the right place, and you can cut out the distractions you have control over and minimize the ones you can’t stop completely.
Focus on one task at a time. Though many people think that multi-tasking is a great way to accomplish goals more quickly and to get two or three things done at once, multi-tasking is actually harmful to your concentration. Occupied with many tasks, you may think you’re getting more done. 39 Therefore, work on getting just one thing done at a time and you’ll see that you get this done more quickly.
40 Do this in writing in outline form, and breaking down the steps can help your mind from not getting overwhelmed.
A.Set small steps and short term goals.
B.Create the environment to allow this to be possible.
C.Make a list of goals at the beginning of every day or week.
D.Select a proper place where you are most likely to be able to focus.
E.If you really want to get good grades, you should keep yourself from getting distracted.
F.However, it will harm your concentration not to put all of your focus and energy into only one task.
G.If you want to improve your focus, you need to learn how to avoid distractions before accomplishing a task.
Passage 3
Studies continue to show how important strong friendships are to our overall health. Here’re the rules you are supposed to know to keep strong and healthy friendships.
41 Everyone needs a support network. When you consider yourself the friend of another, you’re indirectly offering to be a part of his or her support network. What’s more, without trust and honesty, there is no authenticity (真实性) to the friendship.
Be all ears to your friends. Too often, we only “half hear" what others are telling us, and have a hard time making space for caring about others’ conditions. 42 If we don’t truly know what our friends need or can’t clearly express how we feel or what we need, friendships won’t survive or continue.
Throw away the judgment. 43 Good friends are able to realize that everyone is human. Friends don’t have to necessarily “like” or “approve” of their friends’ choices, but good friends will accept their friends’ choices no matter what.
Forgive (原谅) where you can— and seek forgiveness when you make a mess of something. No one promises to bring perfection to a relationship, so being willing to accept and forgive the weaknesses of others enables you to build a lasting friendship. 44
Respect your friends and their boundaries (边界). Everyone has a right to set up personal boundaries to feel safe and respected. Some friends may have a difficult time letting people get close to them for fear of being hurt. 45 Give them the space they need to feel comfortable, and let the relationship deepen over time.
A.Offer them what they need.
B.Give support, trust, and honesty.
C.Don’t stick near your friends too much.
D.However, friendships require attention and care.
E.But friendships don’t need to be perfect.
F.True friends don’t judge each other’s choices.
G.It’s also important that we’re able to recognize when we make mistakes.
Passage 4
In Australia, November is the final exam season, and for high school students, it’s one of the most important exam periods. It is a stressful time for everyone. However, from my countless exam experiences, 46 .
Start early. The official exam preparation period starts about one week before the final exam period. 47 . Let’s admit it, after being bombarded(轰炸) by countless assignments and tests, no one in the final weeks of the semester will have much memory of the content taught in week one. I usually go through the notes I took throughout the semester to refresh my memory. 48 , so that I can catch up, ask the teachers questions when they are not busy and be better prepared for the practice exams that we do later. At the very least, it gives me a sense of control. This can be very important when you are overwhelmed by content and feel unmotivated!
Live healthily. A lot of people stay up late reviewing content before the exam, but this is not healthy at all. Sleep is necessary to restore our physical and mental functions. In particular, 49 . I recommend this based on my personal experience. I always feel exhausted the next day if I go to sleep after 1 am. Without enough sleep, I cannot stay productive. Sacrificing sleep time for reviewing is not worth it. We need time to relax.
50 . This may not work for everyone, but I personally find it helpful. Having friends to study with not only provides us with opportunities to figure out blind spots in our understanding but also allows us to have different perspectives, which is helpful in terms of problem-solving. Also, the presence of friends can motivate me to stay positive, and talking to them can ease my anxiety caused by exams.
A.Study with friends
B.Ask for help when necessary
C.It can help improve our memories
D.It can make me stuck on difficult questions
E.But I usually begin my review about two weeks earlier
F.This helps me identify the parts that I do not understand well
G.I want to share some tips and tricks that have helped me handle final exams.
Passage 1
The Internet offers us an opportunity to know more people (without actually needing to“know them”), with very little effort. But are online friendships the same as in-real-life (IRL) friendships?
51 While digital immigrants (移民) (such as I, a 43-year-old man) support scientist John Suler’s belief that people “separate their online lives from their offline lives", the digital natives (such as my son, an 18-year-old boy) growing up with Facebook and Instagram find differences between online and offline friendships more unclear.
The Pew Research Center (PRC) finds that 57% of American teens make new friends online. But, it also finds that most“digital friendships” stay in the digital space with only 20% of teens having met an online friend in person. It seems that real-time friendships are considered more valuable than digital friendships even among the digital natives. 52 Online meetings come a close third. The reason why online friendships are placed below IRL friendships is the absence of physical intimacy (亲密).
So, is the Internet bad for relationships? Obviously not. But for the net, I could have never kept in touch with or met my high school friend after a quarter of a century. 53 83% of teen social media users believe that social media makes them feel more connected to their friends’ lives. However, online interactions can sometimes have a negative effect on existing relationships. 68% of teen social media users report having experienced unpleasant feelings toward their friends on social media. 54
The Internet is undoubtedly an invaluable link between people separated by distance. 55 And a balance of online and offline interactions will pave the way for better relationships in the world.
A.Best friends meet most often at schools and homes.
B.People from different countries hold different opinions.
C.But this link must be based on intimacy and familiarity.
D.How people see online friendships and IRL friendships depends on their age.
E.And the digital native seems to find online interactions with real-life friends beneficial.
F.26% of all teens have had an argument with a friend over something that happened online.
G.54% of online gaming teens feel more connected to existing friends with whom they play games.
Passage 2
People are spending like never before on their pets
There is little, it seems that people won’t do for their pets. This is not limited to any particular country or region. 56 That is more than they spent on childcare. In this case, the pet industry has become big business. Mars, a company best known for its chocolate bars for pets, made two-thirds of its income last year from pet-care. Besides owning the Royal Canin pet-food brand, the company also operates thousands of vet hospitals.
At present, though facing higher prices and a cooling job market, pet owners have been unwilling to cut back on spending for their pets. Morgan Stanley, a bank, predicts pet spending in America will grow by 2.5% this year. The pet business proved similarly strong during the pandemic (疫情), as lonely people adopted (领养) animals and spent generously on them. 57 .
Behind that is a change in the relationship between pets and humans. 58 “Pets have gone from the backyard to the living room to the bedroom,” says LoYe Moutault, head of the pet division at Mars. For many, pets are considered family members, and this emotional connection drives spending decisions.
59 Younger owners are more likely to take their pets to the vet more often and to buy them more gifts. About 95% of Gen Z owners (born between 1995 and 2009), surveyed last year by the American Pet Products Association, said they bought their dog a gift at least once a year, compared with 81% of boomers (born between 1946 and 1965). 60
As pets continue to be seen as family members, it is expected that spending on them will remain high.
A.There are differences in pet spending across age groups.
B.Pet spending was greatly influenced during the pandemic.
C.Owners increasingly see themselves as parents, not masters.
D.This shows people’s lasting devotion to pet care, even in the face of hard times.
E.Dogs, cats and other animals are lucky enough to be welcomed into such families.
F.In America, pet spending reached $186 billion last year, covering everything from food to vet visits.
G.The average cost of those gifts was about $44 among Gen Z owners while only $17 among boomers.

Passage 1
How to overcome procrastination
Procrastination (拖延), which is when you put off, tasks that you should be focusing on, can stop even the most promising career in its tracks. It can reduce the quality of your work, lead. you to miss deadlines, cause others to avoid working with you, and can even damage your reputation. 61
First, it’s important to recognize when you’re procrastinating. You might spend a lot of your time working on low-priority (低优先级) tasks from your to-do list. Perhaps you sit down to work on a high-priority project, and then immediately take a coffee break. Or maybe you wait around to be in the right mood to get started on something. 62
63 Are you overwhelmed(压垮)by the task? Are you so disorganized that you just don’t want to get started? Or, are you a perfectionist who thinks you don’t have enough knowledge or skills to begin?
Once you understand why you’re procrastinating, come up with some ways to overcome it. 64 If you’re procrastinating because of disorganization, take time to prioritize your to-do list and then focus on one task at a time. Or if you’re procrastinating because of perfectionism, ask yourself how perfect the work actually has to be.
And don’t forget to reward yourself. For example, have a coffee once you’ve completed a task that you’ve been putting off. 65
Remember, it can take a while to overcome a bad habit and establish a new routine, so don’t give up.
A.It’s a common problem, which can cause many issues.
B.The next step is to think about why you’re procrastinating.
C.The good news is: there’s a lot you can do to overcome this bad habit.
D.The longer you wait, the less likely you are to act on what you’ve learned.
E.Everyone is different, so pay attention to when you put off a task or project.
F.Not only is this motivational, but you’ll realize how good it feels when you actually finish things.
G.If you’re not motivated to get started, think about all of the unpleasant consequences of not completing this task.
Passage 1
Whether you’re a child, teenager, young adult or are middle-aged, respecting your parents is an important value. Your parents are the people who raise you, devoting time, energy and money to your development. And they love you unconditionally throughout your life. 66 .
●Respect their belongings.
One important way to show respect is to show regard for the things important to your parents. For younger children, this may mean not touching jewelry (珠宝) or other valuable things. 67 Don’t take advantage of your parents’ kindness and generosity. And never borrow things without asking first.
●Punctuality.
68 . Therefore, always be on time. For teenagers, showing up on time means coming home by curfew (宵禁). Adult children should show up on time for family dinners or events, or to pick a parent up for a medical appointment. Call if you’re going to be late because parents worry about children, whatever their age.
● 69
Remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special days is a sign that you honor your parents. Make plans to take them to lunch or dinner or bake a cake or cookies. Most parents don’t expect expensive gifts, but a handmade gift is always appreciated. A phone call from a grown child who lives too far for a visit is a welcome sign of respect.
●Be kind.
Kind words and affection are simple ways to show respect. Tell your parents you love them. Listen and allow your parents to speak without interruption. Show a sincere interest in what your parents have to say. Be patient with your parents and don’t rush them. Never talk back or be rude or disrespectful. Acknowledge your parents’ achievements. 70
A.Celebrate with them.
B.Lateness shows a lack of respect.
C.Whatever your age, there are 4 ways to show respect.
D.Treat your parents the way you would like to be treated.
E.So you should build self-confidence and show respect for your parents.

G.For grown children, respect may mean returning a borrowed tool in good condition and on time.
Passage 2
How Can I Build My Friendships?
Building and keeping healthy friendships takes effort and balance. Friendships grow on shared support. 71 Showing your friends that you care strengthens your bond. Being a good friend yourself is just as important as having good friends around you. Here are some key ways to build your friendships: 72
Take an interest in what’s happening in your friends’ lives. Show you’re listening through eye contact, body language, and short comments like “That sounds great.” When your friends are facing difficulties, listen with understanding and avoid offering advice unless they ask for it. Sometimes, just being there to listen is the best support you can give.Be dependable and trustworthy.
73 Be someone your friends can count on by keeping promises and showing up on time. When a friend shares something personal with you, respect their privacy and keep it private. Following through on your promises and being reliable helps build stronger, lasting connections.Stay connected and available.
Building deeper friendships takes time. Make an effort to see friends regularly and check in with them between meet-ups. 74 It’s natural to feel a bit awkward when getting to know someone new, but don’t let that stop you. As you connect more often, you’ll find that the initial awkwardness fades and a deeper bond begins to form.
Remember, it’s never too late to make new friends or reconnect with old ones. Putting time and energy into friendships can improve your emotional well-being and contribute to a more positive outlook on life. 75 They help you get through tough times and make good moments even more special.
A.Be an active listener.
B.Friends bring joy and support.
C.Trust is important for close friendships.
D.Be mindful that friendships require effort.
E.Spending time with friends can make you feel better and happier.
F.Sometimes you help out, and other times you’re the one receiving help.
G.Even small gestures, like a text or phone call, can make a big difference.
Passage 3
What adults can learn from kids
For kids like me, being called childish happens a lot. When we make silly requirements or act irresponsibly, adults often describe us as childish. But look at the bigger picture: many big problems — like world wars — were caused by adults. 76 Anne Frank shared her powerful story of the Holocaust in her teens, Ruby Bridges fought against racial division in the U.S. at 6, and 7-year-old Charlie Simpson raised £ 120,000 for Haiti on his little bike. 77 Many characteristics considered as childish are often found in adults, so we should rethink using this word to blame irresponsible behavior.
Moreover, who says that some “childish" ideas aren’t what the world needs? Adults may have grand plans but stopped themselves, thinking. “That’s impossible,” or, “That costs too much.” 78 We dream of things like a world without hunger or suffering. While we know that such dreams can be impractical, dreaming is the first step to making things happen.
80 For example, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, has a program called Kids Design Glass, where kids create their own glass art ideas. The artists have said that kids’ ideas are often the best because they don’t worry about the difficulties of blowing glass into certain shapes; they just think of good ideas.
Kids learn a lot from adults, but we also have valuable ideas to share. Adults should learn from kids as well. Learning should go both ways. 90 When adults don’t trust kids, they set limits, telling us what not to do. Kids often have little say in the rules that influence us. Adults should consider the opinions and wishes of younger people.
A.Therefore, age has nothing to do with being responsible.
B.At the same time, kids have done many amazing things.
C.Kids often think big, without the doubts that adults have.
D.What’s worse, adults often think poorly of kids’ abilities.
E.But there’s a problem in the idea that kids are better than adults.
F.Our courage to imagine helps push the boundaries of possibility.
G.The reality, unfortunately, is a little different, mainly due to distrust.

Passage 1
How to be successful in high school
Being successful in high school may look different for different students. To some, success means good grades, while to others it’s getting into a university. 81
Setting goals.
As a high school student, you must have a lot of school-related classes and tests. When you add extracurricular (课外的) activities into your life, things can get more challenging. 82 The short-term goals may focus on grades and exams, while the long-term goals may focus on getting into an advanced program or entering a certain university.
Taking part in classroom discussions.
Most high school students are aware of the importance of finishing their homework, studying for tests, and getting good grades. 83 While you don’t need to monopolize (独占) the conversation to be noticed by others, the more meaningful contributions you make in a class, the more likely you will stand out from your classmates and surprise your teachers.
84
Last but not least, you should be sure to build and take advantage of a support network to help yourself get through high school smoothly. 85 Of course, parents don’t have all the answers, so you should be sure to remember other people you can go to for support, including your classmates, teachers, etc.
A.Setting up a support network.
B.Going to parents for advice.
C.Many students don’t know how to achieve success.
D.However, few of you realize how important class discussion is.
E.As a result, you should set both short-term goals as well as long-term goals.
F.Whatever your idea, you can take some measures to enjoy success in high school.
G.You can be open to your parents about the challenges you face and ask for their help.
Passage 2
We can all relate to being criticized and then feeling terrible. There is not a single one of us who derives pleasure from being criticized. 86 Next time you are interacting with someone who is criticizing you, here are some reactions and actions to try.
Stay calm. I know that your heart may be beating rapidly and your palms may become sweaty but you must breathe deeply and appear calm. Calmness, even if it does not come naturally or easily, always wins over agitation (心烦意乱). 87 Keep breathing deeply.
Listen. Before you start responding, let the person finish saying what they need to say. 88 Remain quiet until you finish listening. It is only when you have heard the person out that you can think about what they have said. Take a moment to prepare your response.
Tell the person who has just criticized you that you need time to think about what they have said. If the person delivering the criticism to you is important to you and you are not sure how to respond, then buy yourself some time. Tell them that you will get back to them because you need 24 hours to think about this. 89 Don’t we?
90 Perhaps the person who is delivering the feedback cares so deeply about you that they truly want you to be the best version of yourself. Keep in mind that there may be something good going on here and try to identify what that may be and see what you can learn.
A.This gives you something to work with and think about.
B.You will get to the next several steps only if you can achieve it.
C.Figure out the purpose of criticism when you decide to respond.
D.Think about whether there are any positive messages in the interaction.
E.This is very helpful because we often feel differently about interactions later on.
F.But we can learn to deal with criticism effectively with the right attitude and strategy.
G.If you don’t, you will appear defensive and make the other person more annoyed.

Set up a plan.

Children and inexperienced swimmers should always have someone nearby, watching them.(即使周围有救生员,有人陪你在水里或在岸上观察也是很好的。
27.设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“The defined swimming areas are the safest places to swim if you’re at the lake, beach, or river. In a pool, the deep and shallow (浅的) ends are often marked with lines.(划定的游泳区域是最安全的地方,如果你是在湖泊,海滩或河流游泳。在一个水池中,深端和浅端通常用线标出)”可知,E项“This allows swimmers to choose areas that match their abilities.(这使得游泳者可以选择符合他们能力的区域)”是对前文的总结,其中this指的就是“深端和浅端通常用线标出”。故选E项。

32.根据上文“Don't study in your bed, where you play games, or in front of the TV. Why?”(不要在你玩游戏的床上或者电视机前学习。为什么?)可知,接下来作者为介绍为什么不可以在床上学习。G项中的“这样做会混淆你的要做什么思维”是对前文不能在床上或电视机前学习的解释。故选G。

【答案】36.G 37.B 38.D 39.F 40.A
37.根据后边“In other words, on your quit date the house and car you occupy need to be “smokeless" in every way. No ashtrays, lighters, etc. ”(换句话说,在你戒烟的日子里,你所居住的房子和汽车需要在各个方面都“无烟”。没有烟灰缸、打火机等”可知,前边说“创设条件,使之成为可能”,能够引出下文,指出创造“无烟”环境,故填B。
38.根据后边“For example, if your intention is to be a non-smoker then you are more likely to succeed hanging out in a local gym instead of a local bar”(例如,如果你的目的是做一个不吸烟的人,那么你就更有可能成功地在当地的健身房里锻炼,而不是去当地的酒吧)可知,应该选择一个你最可能集中注意力的地方,去健身房而不是酒吧就是一个具体的例子,故填D。
39.根据这一段的第一句“Focus on one task at a time.”(一次只专注于一项任务)可知,很多任务对你的注意力是不利的,only one task与one task at a time一致,故填F。
40.根据后边“Do this in writing in outline form, and breaking down the steps can help your mind from not getting overwhelmed. ”(用提纲形式写下来,分解这些步骤可以帮助你的头脑不至于崩溃)可知,要设定小的步骤和短期的目标,small steps与short term goals一致,故填A。
根据空后“Everyone needs a support network. When you consider yourself the friend of another, you’re indirectly offering to be a part of his or her support network.(每个人都需要一个支持网络。当你认为自己是另一个人的朋友时,你间接地提出要成为他或她支持网络的一部分)”可判断,本段讲述的是友谊需要支持和网络。选项B“Give support, trust, and honesty.(给予支持、信任和诚实)”与本段内容相符,其中的Support、trust和honesty在后文有同词复现。故选B。
42.根据空前“Too often, we only “half hear” what others are telling us, and have a hard time making space for caring about others’ conditions.(我们经常只是“一半听到”别人在告诉我们什么,很难为关心别人的情况腾出空间)”以及空后“If we don’t truly know what our friends need or can’t clearly express how we feel or what we need, friendships won’t survive or continue.(如果我们不知道朋友需要什么,或者不能清楚地表达自己的感受或需要什么,友谊就不会持久或继续下去)”可推测,空处应是转折,说明友谊需要关注和关心。选项D“However, friendships require attention and care.(然而,友谊需要关注和关心)”符合逻辑,点明需要提供关注和关心,承接前文的问题,其中的care和前文的caring呼应。故选D。
43.根据后文“Good friends are able to realize that everyone is human. Friends don’t have to necessarily ‘like’ or ‘approve’ of their friends’ choices, but good friends will accept their friends’ choices no matter what.( 好朋友能够意识到每个人都是人。朋友不必一定要‘喜欢’或‘认可’朋友的选择,但好朋友会无条件地接受朋友的选择)”可知,真正的朋友不会评判彼此的选择。选项F“True friends don’t judge each other’s choices.(真正的朋友不会评判对方的选择)”符合语境,说明真正的友谊中不会有对对方选择的评判,承接前文,其中的judge呼应前文的judgment。故选F。
44.根据空前“No one promises to bring perfection to a relationship, so being willing to accept and forgive the weaknesses of others enables you to build a lasting friendship.(没有人承诺要给一段关系带来完美,所以愿意接受和原谅别人的弱点可以让你建立一段持久的友谊。)” G“It’s also important that we’re able to recognize when we make mistakes.(我们能否意识到自己的错误也很重要)”符合语境;其中的“recognize when we make mistakes”与前文的“accept and forgive the weaknesses of others”相呼应,都是在讲要接受不足和错误。故选G。
45.根据空前“Some friends may have a difficult time letting people get close to them for fear of being hurt.(有些朋友可能很难让别人靠近他们,因为他们害怕受到伤害。)”以及空后“Give them the space they need to feel comfortable, and let the relationship deepen over time.(给他们需要的空间,让他们感到舒适,随着时间的推移让关系加深)”可推测,空处讲的是要给朋友一些空间。选项C“Don’t stick near your friends too much.(不要离你的朋友太近。)”
【答案】46.G 47.E 48.F 49.C 50.A
46.由前文“In Australia, November is the final exam season, and for high school students, it’s one of the most important exam periods. It is a stressful time for everyone. However, from my countless exam experiences, (在澳大利亚,11月是期末考试季,对高中生来说,这是最重要的考试期之一。这对每个人来说都是一个充满压力的时刻。然而,从我无数的考试经历来看)”可知,上文提到考试会给每个人带来很大压力,而下文关于应对期末考试的一些建议,所以G项I want to share some tips and tricks that have helped me handle final exams(我想分享一些帮助我处理期末考试的技巧和窍门)符合语境,且本句有启下作用。故选G项。
47.由前文“Start early. The official exam preparation period starts about one week before the final exam period.(早点开始。正式的考试准备期大约在期末考试前一周开始。)”和后文“Let’s admit it, after being bombarded(轰炸) by countless assignments and tests, no one in the final weeks of the semester will have much memory of the content taught in week one. (让我们承认,在被无数作业和测试轰炸之后,在学期的最后几周,没有人会对第一周教的内容有太多的记忆。)”可知,前文说正式的备考期大约在期末考试前一周开始,后文又说要复习整个学期的笔记等内容时间比较紧,说明作者开始复习的时间更早,所以E项But I usually begin my review about two weeks earlier(但我通常会提前大约两周开始复习)符合逻辑,起到了承接上文并引出下文复习内容的作用。故选E项。
48.由前文“I usually go through the notes I took throughout the semester to refresh my memory.(我通常会复习整个学期做的笔记来刷新记忆。)”和后文“so that I can catch up, ask the teachers questions when they are not busy and be better prepared for the practice exams that we do later. (这样我就可以赶上,在老师不忙的时候问他们问题,为我们以后的练习考试做好准备。)”可知,前文提到复习整个学期的笔记来唤起记忆,后文说这样能赶上进度、向老师提问并为之后的模拟考试做更好的准备,所以F 项This helps me identify the parts that I do not understand well(这有助于我找出我理解不好的部分)符合逻辑,是复习笔记能带来的好处之一,能与后文很好地衔接。故选F项。
49.由前文“Live healthily. A lot of people stay up late reviewing content before the exam, but this is not healthy at all. Sleep is necessary to restore our physical and mental functions. (健康地生活。很多人在考试前熬夜复习内容,但这根本不健康。睡眠对于恢复我们的身心功能是必要的。)”可知,前文提到睡眠对恢复身心功能是必要的,此处具体说明睡眠的一个重要作用,所以C 项它可以帮助改善我们的记忆力(它有助于提高我们的记忆力)符合语境,其中it指代上文Sleep,有承上作用。故选C项。
50.由后文“This may not work for everyone, but I personally find it helpful. Having friends to study with not only provides us with opportunities to figure out blind spots in our understanding but also allows us to have different perspectives, which is helpful in terms of problem-solving. Also, the presence of friends can motivate me to stay positive, and talking to them can ease my anxiety caused by exams.(这可能对每个人都不起作用,但我个人觉得这很有帮助。有朋友一起学习不仅为我们提供了找出理解盲点的机会,也让我们有了不同的视角,这对解决问题很有帮助。此外,朋友的存在可以激励我保持积极的态度,与他们交谈可以缓解我因考试而引起的焦虑。)”可知,后文主要讲述了和朋友一起学习的好处,如能发现理解上的盲点、有不同视角、能激励自己保持积极、缓解焦虑等,所以此处应选 A项Study with friends(和朋友一起学习)作为段落主题句。故选A项。
【答案】51.D 52.A 53.E 54.F 55.C
51.下文“While digital immigrants (移民) (such as I, a 43-year-old man) support scientist John Suler’s belief that people “separate their online lives from their offline lives”, the digital natives (such as my son,a 18-year-old boy) growing up with Facebook and Instagram find differences between online and offline friendships more unclear.(虽然数字移民(比如我,一个43岁的男人)支持科学家约翰·苏勒的观点,即人们“将他们的线上生活与线下生活分开”,但数字原住民(比如我的儿子,一个18岁的男孩)在Facebook和Instagram的陪伴下成长,却发现线上和线下友谊的区别更加明显)”说明了不同年龄层对网络友谊和现实生活友谊的不同看法,是对D项“How people see online friendships and IRL friendships depends on their age.(人们如何看待网络友谊和现实生活中的友谊取决于他们的年龄)”中观点的举例说明,上下文语意连贯。故选D项。
52.上文“It seems that real-time friendships are considered more valuable than digital friendships even among the digital natives.(即使在数字原住民中,实时友谊似乎也被认为比数字友谊更有价值)”提到实时友谊在数字原住民中也被认为更有价值。 故选A项。
53.上文“But for the net, I could have never kept in touch with or met my high school friend after a quarter of a century.(但如果没有网络,我在二十五年后就再也无法与我的高中朋友保持联系或见面了)”提到网络帮助作者与旧友保持联系。 两个句子通过举例来论证段首观点“So, is the Internet bad for relationships? Obviously not.(那么,网络对人际关系有害吗?显然不是)”,说明网络对人际关系是有益的。故选E项。
54.上文“However, online interactions can sometimes have a negative effect on existing relationships. 68% of teen social media users report having experienced unpleasant feelings toward their friends on social media.(然而,在线互动有时会对现有关系产生负面影响。68%的青少年社交媒体用户报告说,他们在社交媒体上对朋友产生过不愉快的感觉)”提到在线互动可能对现有关系产生负面影响。F选项“26% of all teens have had an argument with a friend over something that happened online.(26%的青少年曾因为网上发生的事情与朋友发生过争执)”承接上文,进一步举例说明在线互动可能带来的负面影响,即青少年可能因为网上的事情与朋友发生争执,与上文话题紧密相关。故选F项。
55.上文“The Internet is undoubtedly an in valuable link between people separated by distance.(互联网无疑是远距离人们之间宝贵的联系)”提到互联网是远距离人们之间的联系。C选项“But this link must be based on intimacy and familiarity.(但这种联系必须建立在亲密和熟悉的基础上)”承接上文,指出虽然互联网是人们之间的联系,但这种联系必须建立在亲密和熟悉的基础上,与上文话题一致,且“this link”指代上文中的“an in valuable link”。故选C项。
【答案】56.F 57.D 58.C 59.A 60.G
56.根据下文“That is more than they spent on childcare. (那比他们在儿童保育上的花费还要多。)”可知,空处应是提到了具体的花费金额,与F项“In America, pet spending reached $186 billion last year, covering everything from food to vet visits. (在美国,去年宠物支出达到1860亿美元,涵盖了从食品到兽医就诊的方方面面。)”上下文一致,符合文意,故选F项。
57.根据上文“The pet business proved similarly strong during the pandemic (疫情), as lonely people adopted(领养) animals and spent generously on them. (疫情期间,宠物生意同样强劲,因为孤独的人们领养了动物,并在它们身上慷慨花费。)”可知,在疫情期间人们对宠物消费的态度没有变化,与D项“This shows people’s lasting devotion to pet care, even in the face of hard times. (这表明人们对宠物护理的持久热爱,即使在困难时期也是如此。)”上下文一致,符合文意,故选D项。
58.根据下文“For many, pets are considered family members, and this emotional connection drives spending decisions. (对许多人来说,宠物被视为家庭成员,这种情感联系推动了消费决策。)”可知,人们与宠物的关系发生了变化,把宠物当作家庭成员,与C项“Owners increasingly see themselves as parents, not masters. (物主越来越多地将自己视为父母,而不是主人。)”上下文一致,体现了人们与宠物的关系的转变,符合文意,故选C项。
59.根据下文“Younger owners are more likely to take their pets to the vet more often and to buy them more gifts. (年轻的主人更有可能更频繁地带他们的宠物去看兽医,并为它们购买更多的礼物。)”可知,不同年龄的人对于宠物消费的态度不同,与A项“There are differences in pet spending across age groups. (不同年龄段的宠物消费存在差异。)”上下文一致,符合文意,故选A项。
60.根据上文“About 95% of Gen Z owners (born between 1995 and 2009), surveyed last year by the American Pet Products Association, said they bought their dog a gift at least once a year, compared with 81% of boomers (born between 1946 and 1965). 美国宠物用品协会去年调查的Z世代主人(出生于1995年至2009年之间)中约有95%表示,他们每年至少给狗买一次礼物,而婴儿潮一代(出生于1946年至1965年之间)的这一比例为81%。)”,可知,两个群里给宠物买礼物的平均花费是不同的,与G项“In America, pet spending reached $186 billion last year, covering everything from food to vet visits. (在美国,去年宠物支出达到1860亿美元,涵盖了从食品到兽医就诊的方方面面。)”上下文一致,是对前文的进一步补充说明,符合文意,故选G项。

主题03 人与自我——家庭与朋友

70.根据上文“Kind words and affection are simple ways to show respect. Tell your parents you love them. Listen and allow your parents to speak without interruption. Show a sincere interest in what your parents have to say. Be patient with your parents and don’t rush them. Never talk back or be rude or disrespectful.

79 For example, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, has a program called Kids Design Glass, where kids create their own glass art ideas.
80 When adults don’t trust kids, they set limits, telling us what not to do.
【答案】76.B 77.A 78.C 79.F 80.G
76.上文“But look at the bigger picture: many big problems — like world wars — were caused by adults.(但纵观全局:许多重大问题,如世界大战,都是由成年人造成的)”讲述了成年人制造了许多重大问题,后文“Anne Frank shared her powerful story of the Holocaust in her teens, Ruby Bridges fought against racial division in the U.S. at 6, and 7-year-old Charlie Simpson raised £ 120,000 for Haiti on his little bike.(Anne Frank在十几岁时分享了她关于大屠杀的强有力的故事,Ruby Bridges在6岁时与美国的种族分裂作斗争,7岁的Charlie Simpson骑着他的小自行车为海地筹集了12万英镑)”讲述了3个孩子做出的巨大成就,由此可知,空处承上启下,指出孩子可以做许多令人惊叹的事,B项“与此同时,孩子们做了许多令人惊叹的事情。”
77.上文“Anne Frank shared her powerful story of the Holocaust in her teens, Ruby Bridges fought against racial division in the U.S. at 6, and 7-year-old Charlie Simpson raised £ 120,000 for Haiti on his little bike.(Anne Frank在十几岁时分享了她关于大屠杀的强有力的故事,Ruby Bridges在6岁时与美国的种族分裂作斗争,7岁的Charlie Simpson骑着他的小自行车为海地筹集了12万英镑)”列举了3个孩子做出了巨大成就,下文“Many characteristics considered as childish are often found in adults, so we should rethink using this word to blame irresponsible behavior.(许多被视为幼稚的特征往往出现在成年人身上,因此我们应该重新思考使用这个词来指责不负责任的行为)”讲述了许多幼稚行为往往出现在成人身上,所以在用childish来形容不负责任行为的时候应该重新思考,由此可知,空处应说年龄与责任无关,A项“因此,年龄与责任无关。” 故选A。
78.上文“Adults may have grand plans but stop themselves, thinking. “That’s impossible,” or, “That costs too much.”(成年人可能有宏伟的计划,但会自己停下来思考。“那是不可能的”,或者“那花费太多了”)”讲述了成年人虽然有宏伟计划,但是会因考虑太多限制而被困住,空处应讲述孩子的做法,C项“孩子们经常敢想,没有成年人的怀疑。”符合题意。故选C。
79.根据后文“For example, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, has a program called Kids Design Glass, where kids create their own glass art ideas. The artists have said that kids’ ideas are often the best because they don’t worry about the difficulties of blowing glass into certain shapes; they just think of good ideas.(例如,华盛顿州塔科马的玻璃博物馆有一个名为“Kids Design Glass”的项目,孩子们可以在那里创造自己的玻璃艺术创意。艺术家们说,孩子们的想法往往是最好的,因为他们不担心把玻璃吹成特定形状的困难;他们只是想出好主意)”可知,后文举了“Kids Design Glass”项目的例子,孩子们只需想出好主意,由此可知,本段主要讲述的是想象的好处,F项“我们想象的勇气有助于突破可能性的界限。”符合题意。故选F。
80.上文“Adults should learn from kids as well. Learning should go both ways.(成年人也应该向孩子学习。学习应该是双向的)”讲述了孩子和成人应该互相学习,成年人要向孩子学习,后文“When adults don’t trust kids, they set limits, telling us what not to do.(当成年人不信任孩子时,他们会设定限制,告诉我们不该做什么)”讲述了成人不信任孩子的情况,由此可知,空处应与上文转折,引出下文,G项“不幸的是,现实情况有点不同,主要是由于不信任。”讲述了理想和现实不同,因为有不信任的情况,符合题意。故选G。

【答案】81.F 82.E 83.D 84.A 85.G
81.由上文“Being successful in high school may look different for different students. To some, success means good grades, while to others it’s getting into a university. (在高中取得成功对不同的学生来说可能是不同的。对一些人来说,成功意味着好成绩,而对另一些人来说,成功意味着进入大学。)”和下文“Setting goals. (设定目标。)”可知,上文介绍不同学生对成功的不同定义。下文是对如何取得成功的建议,本空应该是对不同观点的总结性的语句,引出下文的具体建议。因此,F选项“Whatever your idea, you can take some measures to enjoy success in high school. (无论你的想法是什么,你都可以采取一些措施来享受高中的成功。)”既承接了前一句的不同成功定义,又引出了后文的具体措施,符合题意。故选F。
82.由上文“When you add extracurricular (课外的) activities into your life, things can get more challenging. (当你在生活中加入课外活动时,事情会变得更具挑战性。)”可以推测,接下来应该提出应对挑战的方法。E选项“As a result, you should set both short-term goals as well as long-term goals. (因此,你应该同时设定短期目标和长期目标。)”提出了设置短期和长期目标的建议,正好是对如何应对挑战的一种回应,能承接上文,符合题意。故选E。
83.由下文“While you don’t need to monopolize (独占) the conversation to be noticed by others, the more meaningful contributions you make in a class, the more likely you will stand out from your classmates and surprise your teachers. (虽然你不需要垄断谈话来引起别人的注意,但你在课堂上做出的有意义的贡献越多,你就越有可能从同学中脱颖而出,让老师大吃一惊。)”可知,本空应强调课堂讨论的重要性。D选项“However, few of you realize how important class discussion is. (然而,你们中很少有人意识到课堂讨论的重要性。)”指出了很多学生没有意识到课堂讨论的重要性,能引出下文,符合题意。故选D。
84.由下文“Last but not least, you should be sure to build and take advantage of a support network to help yourself get through high school smoothly. (最后但并非最不重要的是,你应该确保建立并利用一个支持网络来帮助自己顺利度过高中。)”可知,本段落是关于建立支持网络的重要性,本空应概括本段主旨,强调建立支持网络的重要性,A选项“Setting up a support network. (建立支持网络)”直接点明了段落的主题,适合作为该段的开头,符合题意。故选A。
85.由上文“Last but not least, you should be sure to build and take advantage of a support network to help yourself get through high school smoothly. (最后但并非最不重要的是,你应该确保建立并利用一个支持网络来帮助自己顺利度过高中。)”可知,接下来会具体说明可以从哪些人那里获得支持。由下文“Of course, parents don’t have all the answers, so you should be sure to remember other people you can go to for support, including your classmates, teachers, etc. (当然,父母不可能有所有的答案,所以你一定要记住你可以去寻求支持的人,包括你的同学、老师等。)”可知,本空应强调从父母那里获得支持,与父母讨论自己所面临的挑战,G选项“You can be open to your parents about the challenges you face and ask for their help. (你可以向父母敞开心扉,告诉他们你面临的挑战,并寻求他们的帮助。)”提到了可以从父母那里寻求帮助,能承上启下,符合题意。而B选项“Going to parents for advice. (向父母寻求建议)”虽然也提到父母,与下文提到的父母有关,但考虑到整个段落的中心主题是“建立一个支持网络”,而不仅仅是向父母寻求建议。G选项不仅提到了向父母寻求帮助,还强调了与父母坦诚交流面临的挑战,这与段落主题“利用支持网络”更为契合。故选G。
86.由上文“We can all relate to being criticized and then feeling terrible. There is not a single one of us who derives pleasure from being criticized. (我们都有被批评的经历,然后感觉很糟糕。我们中没有一个人从被批评中得到乐趣。)”及下文“Next time you are interacting with someone who is criticizing you, here are some reactions and actions to try. (下次当你与批评你的人互动时,这里有一些反应和行动可以尝试。)”可知,上文提到批评带来的负面情绪,下文则是提供处理批评的方法。因此,本空应当是一个转折句,引出接下来的建议。选项F“But we can learn to deal with criticism effectively with the right attitude and strategy. (但我们可以学会以正确的态度和策略有效地应对批评。)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选F。
87.由上文“Stay calm. I know that your heart may be beating rapidly and your palms may become sweaty but you must breathe deeply and appear calm. Calmness, even if it does not come naturally or easily, always wins over agitation (心烦意乱). (保持冷静。我知道你的心跳可能很快,你的手心可能会出汗,但你必须深呼吸,保持冷静。平静,即使不自然也不容易,总能战胜躁动。)”可知,上文建议在面对批评时保持冷静。因此,本空应当是对上文建议的具体补充,强调保持冷静的重要性。选项B“You will get to the next several steps only if you can achieve it. (只有当你能够实现它时,你才能进入接下来的几个步骤。)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选B。
88.由上文“Listen. Before you start responding, let the person finish saying what they need to say. (听。在你开始回应之前,让对方说完他们该说的话。)”可知,上文建议在回应之前先听对方说完。因此,本空应当是对倾听的重要性进行进一步解释,继续说明不倾听的注后果。选项G“If you don’t, you will appear defensive and make the other person more annoyed. (如果你不这样做,你会显得防御性,让对方更加恼火。)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选G。
89.由上文“Tell the person who has just criticized you that you need time to think about what they have said. If the person delivering the criticism to you is important to you and you are not sure how to respond, then buy yourself some time. Tell them that you will get back to them because you need 24 hours to think about this. (告诉那个批评你的人,你需要时间考虑他们说的话。如果向你提出批评的人对你很重要,而你不确定如何回应,那就给自己争取一些时间。告诉他们你会回复他们,因为你需要24小时来考虑这件事。)”可知,上文建议在不确定如何回应时给自己一些时间思考。因此,本空应当是对这一做法的好处进行说明,强调考虑后互动的感觉会更好。选项E“This is very helpful because we often feel differently about interactions later on. (这非常有帮助,因为我们以后对互动的感觉往往不同。)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选E。
90.由下文“Perhaps the person who is delivering the feedback cares so deeply about you that they truly want you to be the best version of yourself. (也许给你反馈的人非常关心你,他们真的希望你成为最好的自己。)”可知,下文提到对方的批评可能包含关心,因此,本空应当引导读者思考批评背后可能存在的积极意义。选项D“Think about whether there are any positive messages in the interaction. (想想互动中是否有任何积极的信息。)”能引起下文,符合题意。故选D。
