专题09 读后续写 主题01 人与自我——生活故事 Passage 1 (24-25高一上·江苏镇江中学·期中) Little Tom was a student in senior high school. He was not good at his work and failed many times in the exams, and he never knew why he couldn’t catch up with others. One day, Tom and his teacher were walking through the forest. He was disturbed by the fact that his mind was in constant unrest. He asked his teacher, “Why are most people’s minds restless, and only a few have a calm mind? What can one do to calm the mind down?” The teacher looked at Tom, smiled and told him a story: On one beautiful day, an elephant was standing by the shade of a tree, eating its leaves. Suddenly, a small fly came buzzingly and landed on the elephant’s ear. The elephant stayed calm and continued eating, ignoring the fly. The fly flew around the elephant’s ear, buzzing noisily, yet the elephant seemed to be unaffected. This confused the fly, and it asked, “Are you deaf?” “No!” the elephant answered. “Why aren’t you bothered by my buzz?” the fly asked. “Why are you so restless and noisy? Why can’t you stay calm just for a few moments?” asked the elephant, and peacefully continued eating the leaves. The fly answered, “Everything I see, hear and feel attracts my attention, and all noises and movements around me affect my behavior.” “What is your secret? How can you stay so calm and still, while I am buzzing around your ears?” “I can continue eating peacefully, because my five senses do not disturb my peace.” “How is it possible?” asked the fly amazed and confused. “Because I don’t let them rule my attention,” answered the elephant. “I am in control of my mind and my thoughts, and therefore, I can direct my attention where I want, and ignore any disturbance including your buzz.” “And therefore,” continued the elephant, “I am completely lost in the act of eating, enjoying my food and chewing it peacefully.” After listening to the story, Tom’s eyes opened wide and smiled. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, he paid his attention to whatever he was doing. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 After listening to the story, Tom’s eyes opened wide and smiled. He looked at his teacher and said, “I now understand! When I am doing something, I am always not paying attention and I am easily disturbed by the things around me. So my mind is always in constant unrest. If I focus my attention on the things that I am doing, I will not care about whatever happens in the world around me and I will control my five senses and control my mind.” “Yes, that’s right,’’ the teacher answered. From that day on, he paid his attention to whatever he was doing. In class, his attention was completely fixed on what the teacher was saying, and he didn’t talk with his deskmate any more, which made his deskmate amazed. When he was doing his homework no matter what was going on outside, he was not affected. His parents were surprised at his change and asked what had happened to him. He told the story about the fly and the elephant to them. Because of his efforts, he made great progress in the final examination. 词汇激活 行为类 做事:do something/undertake 关心:care about /concern 集中:fix on/focus on/concentrate on 情绪类 惊讶:amazed /surprised 不安:unrest / unease 【点睛】[高分句型1] When I am doing something, I am always not paying attention and I am easily disturbed by the things around me. If his mother asked him to do something, he would shout “Later” and continue with whatever he was doing. One day, Andrew came home from school. He grabbed (抓) an armful of snacks from the kitchen, and then played video games until the sun set. The room started to grow dark. The only light came from the TV, which produced a loud noise. “Andrew!” his mother shouted from the kitchen. “Dinner’s ready!” “Later!” he called back. Later arrived, and Andrew’s mother walked into his room, carrying a plate of food for his dinner. She stopped suddenly just inside the door. “Andrew, can you clean up this mess?” his mother pointed to the empty snack bags on the sofa. “Later!” he shouted. His mother let out a sigh (叹气) as she began to tidy up the mess. The next day, Andrew came home feeling angry and frustrated (沮丧的) because he had difficulties with a test at school. He decided to treat himself to a piece of cake. Just as Andrew was about to eat the cake, his mother called him from the other room. He sighed, dropped his cake, and made his way to where his mother was waiting. The envelope (信封) Andrew had just brought home was open. His mother looked serious, with a letter in her hand. She pointed for him to sit next to her. “Andrew, we need to talk about something that happened at school. I’ve read this letter from your teacher. She says you’ve been copying your friend’s work.” Andrew said, “Well, he lets me copy from him!” His mother sighed but then gave him a small smile. “It’s okay, Andrew. Look, if you’re finding it difficult, I can help. Let’s start tonight, okay?” Andrew jumped to his feet. “Later!” he shouted and rushed off to his bedroom. Later that night, Andrew couldn’t get to sleep. Why did everyone always expect him to do things their way? Why wouldn’t they let him do what he wanted? He wished that everyone would leave him alone. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 That night, Andrew had a strange dream that his mother was missing. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The following morning, Andrew woke up, ran downstairs, and called out for his mother. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    That night, Andrew had a strange dream that his mother was missing. In the dream, the house was eerily quiet, and he couldn’t find his mother anywhere. The kitchen was a mess, and there was no dinner prepared. The emptiness and silence around him were unsettling. Andrew realized that his mother did a lot for him and how he had taken her presence for granted. Panicking, he began frantically searching every room, but she was nowhere to be found. The loneliness hit him hard, and he longed for her voice calling him to dinner, even if it was just to remind him to clean up.    The following morning, Andrew woke up, ran downstairs, and called out for his mother. Relief washed over him when he heard her reply from the kitchen. He hugged her tightly, surprising her. “Mom, I’m sorry for always saying ‘later’. I’ll try to change,” he said earnestly. His mother smiled warmly, “That’s all I wanted to hear, Andrew.” From that day on, Andrew began to be more mindful, helping with chores and focusing on his studies. He learned the value of responsibility and appreciated the care his mother showed him. 词汇激活 行为类 ①寻找:searching/finding/looking for/seeking ②拥抱:hugged/embraced/clasped ③说:said/told/spoke 情绪类 ①不安的:unsettling/disturbing/uneasy ②恐慌的:panicking/frightening/terrifying 【点睛】[高分句型1] Andrew realized that his mother did a lot for him and how he had taken her presence for granted. She sat on my bed, her blue eyes blank. “I’m bored,” she said, slowly playing her thick red hair. She had come to play half an hour ago. “Please don’t go,” I begged her again. “Your mother said you could stay for an hour.” Ann started to get up, then spotted a pair of beautiful Indian boots on my bedside table. With their bright-color and soft leather, the boots were my most cherished possession (珍视的财产). “I’ll stay if you’ll give me those,” Ann said. I hesitated (犹豫不决). I couldn’t imagine parting with the boots. “But Aunt Reba gave them to me,” I said in a low voice. My aunt had been a beautiful, kind woman. I had really loved her. She was never too busy to spend time with me. We made up silly stories and laughed and laughed. The day she died, I cried for hours, unable to believe that I would never see her again. Now, as I held the soft boots in my hands, I was filled with fond memories of Aunt Reba. “Come on,” pressed Ann. “I’m your best friend.” As if she needed to remind me! I don’t know what came over me, but more than anything, I wanted someone to play with me. I wanted someone to play with so much that I handed Ann the boots! After she put them in her bag, we rode our bikes around the neighborhood for a while. Soon it was time for her to go. Upset at what I had done, I didn’t feel like playing anyway. I told mom “not hungry” that evening and dragged off (拖着脚步) to bed without dinner. Once up in my room, I began to really miss my boots. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When mom came in to say goodnight, she asked me what was wrong. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The second day. I buried my face in the pillow, tears streaming down. “I gave Ann my favorite Indian boots,” I confessed, my voice trembling. Mom sat down beside me and gently stroked my hair. “I know those boots meant a lot to you, but sometimes we make sacrifices for the sake of friendship,” she said soothingly. “Talk to Ann tomorrow. Maybe she’ll understand how much they meant to you and offer to give them back.” Her words brought me a glimmer of hope, but I still felt hollow inside. The second day, I gathered all my courage and asked Ann to return my boots. She hesitated, a flicker of guilt passing across her face. “I really like them,” she admitted softly. “But I understand how much they meant to you. They were a gift from your aunt, weren’t they?” I nodded, tears welling up in my eyes. Ann sighed and reached into her bag, pulling out the boots. “Here, take them back. I didn’t realize they were so special to you.” As I took the boots, a wave of relief washed over me. Our friendship had survived this test, and I was grateful for Ann’s understanding. 词汇激活 行为类 ①还回:give back/return ②拿出:pull out/take out ③明白:understand/be aware of 情绪类 ①安慰地说:soothingly/relievedly ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】[高分句型1] I buried my face in the pillow, tears streaming down.(句中含有独立主格结构) [高分句型2] As I took the boots, a wave of relief washed over me.(句中含有as引导状语从句) Passage 2 (24-25高一上·江苏泰州中学·期中) As early as middle school I knew that I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. Instead, I became a teacher, and seven years into my teaching career at a small school in West Seattle, I finally decided to give up my writing dream. It didn’t mean I stopped writing altogether, but it meant giving up on my first novel. Then one spring, four years later, my seventh graders and I had the chance to meet bestselling author Jamie Ford. After hearing his advice about writing prize-winning stories, I revisited my old dream. I created a novel-writing project the following September when my seventh-grade students became my eighth-graders. Each week, during language arts class, my students spent an hour writing stories. During that hour, I told them that I, their teacher, would be doing the same homework. They were excited to have me working alongside them. Little did they know that I usually spent that hour writing emails to parents, planning the next day’s lessons, and grading papers. During a story-writing period, a student called Kellen came up to me with a question about his book and caught me doing teacher work. He called me out. “Hey! You’re not writing!” he said, both excited and disappointed he’d caught the teacher off task. I admitted (承认) it and got back to my novel. All was well until he caught me a second time during a different story writing period. Again, I had no excuse. I went back to work, and this time I wrote wholeheartedly, truly working on my novel. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150个左右; 2. 续写部分分两段,每段开头已为你写好。 Then it hit me that I needed someone to push me to write. Why not Kellen? I approached Kellen the next day with a position. “Kellen, would you be interested in being my writing partner? You can help keep me on track, and in return, I’ll give you extra help with your writing.” His eyes lit up with surprise and excitement. “Really, I’d love that!” From then on, during our writing hour every week, we would sit together, our heads bent over our respective notebooks. Kellen would offer his own ideas and suggestions, while I would help him revise his sentences and develop his passages. One afternoon, Kellen asked me whether I wanted to submit (提交) my novel for a competition. The question caught me off . “Do you really think it’s good enough?” I asked. “Absolutely,” Kellen replied without hesitation. “It’s the best story I’ve ever read. You are sure to win!” With his encouragement, I decided to give it a shot. We spent every spare moment polishing each sentence and refining the plot before submitting my work. Finally, With Kellen’s honest feedback and support, I got the first prize in our city novel competition. The prize wasn’t just about fulfilling a dream, but about finding the right partner to help navigate the journey. 词汇激活 行为类 ①提供:offer/provide ②决定:decide/determine ③获得:get/win 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment ②兴奋:excitement/thrill 【点睛】[高分句型1] It’s the best story I’ve ever read.(省略that的定语从句) [高分句型2] We spent every spare moment polishing each sentence and refining the plot before submitting my work.(动名词作宾语) Passage 3 (24-25高一上·江苏泰兴·期中) A Cold Winter Evening On a cold winter evening, Li Ming walked home with heavy steps, his heart heavy with the news of failing an important exam at school. It sang energetically as the first pale yellow rays of sunshine appeared. “Oh, my god, what is that noise?” Lisa complained to herself, pulling her bed sheets over her head to ignore the sound. It was no use, and she knew it. The loud sound showed the coming of the day. Lisa’s mom knocked twice on her door, and then came in with a smile. “Time to get up, Sleepyhead,” She whispered. “The early bird catches the worm, you know.” “Ugh,” mumbled (含含糊糊地说) Lisa into her pillow. “What does that even mean?” “It’s just an expression, Honey”, her mom replied. She gave Lisa a kiss on the cheek and urged her to get out of bed. Lisa rolled over and slept for a few more minutes. With her mom’s repeated urging, Lisa had no choice but to get herself dressed. She went unwillingly downstairs for breakfast, ate slowly, and missed her bus. When she finally got to school, she failed to get a place in the Chess Club. She also missed the first part of math class, so she didn’t understand the lesson and had to get extra help at lunchtime. Her teacher gave her extra homework to make sure she knew it. As a result, she missed her favourite library time. This day was no fun. The next morning, Lisa was woken up by the same loud noisy song. Instead of ignoring it, today Lisa walked over to the window and opened the curtains. “Well, hello there, little fellow,” she said when she saw the pretty bird outside, still singing happily. As she watched, the bird stuck its beak (喙) into the wet ground, and pulled out a wiggling (不停摇摆) worm for breakfast. “Today I am going to be the early bird,” thought Lisa. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ At lunchtime, Lisa finished her lunch early and had time to go to the library. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “Today I am going to be the early bird,” thought Lisa. She raced through breakfast and hit the road. With each step, Lisa felt a surge of energy and determination, ready to seize the day ahead. Catching the earliest bus in time, she was one of the first kids to enter her classroom. Her teacher reminded her that there were only a few spots left in the Robotics Club, and if she was interested, she needed to sign up right away. Lisa was indeed interested! She wrote her name down in one of the last spaces immediately, her eyes twinkling with merriment. At lunchtime, Lisa finished her lunch early and had time to go to the library. She browsed through the shelves, searching for a book she had been meant to read. As she immersed herself in the pages, she discovered a whole new world of knowledge and imagination. Today turned out to be pretty awesome. “Wow, it sounds like you had a great day, Lisa,” Her mom said later when Lisa went home and told her all about it at dinnertime. “Just call me the early bird,” said Lisa, with a grin. The early bird indeed caught the worm of opportunity. 词汇激活 行为类 ①匆匆完成:race through/hurry through ②报名:sign up/enter for ③沉浸:immerse oneself in/be absorbed in 情绪类 ①欢乐:merriment/joy ②笑:grin/smile 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her teacher reminded her that there were only a few spots left in the Robotics Club, and if she was interested, she needed to sign up right away. Her husband was a businessman and left her a large fortune after his death, so she had no problems supporting herself. The only problem was that her son who was a doctor busy with his work seldom had time to visit her, leaving her living lonely. One day, Polly was walking along the beach, like she did every evening near her seaside house, when she noticed a young boy and his little sister playing there. As she was passing by them, she heard their mother calling out to them. “Corey! Daisy! Be careful! Stay away from the water!” Polly noticed their mother resting on a bench, appearing sick and tired. The dark circles under her eyes were quite obvious, and she coughed frequently. Polly always had a desire to have a chat with someone. So she walked carefully towards the mother with a kind smile on her face. “Hi, I’m Polly. I live by the beach.” Polly said. The mother looked up at Polly, feeling a little surprised. The mother told Polly she was Lydia and had worked as a waitress. Lydia further said that she and her children had only recently moved to that location because her children had always wanted to see the ocean. Then Lydia stopped to cough heavily. After she calmed down, it seemed she wanted to say something, but stopped as if there was something difficult to tell. Polly did not follow up, saying goodbye and left. When Polly went to the beach the next day, she saw the kids again, but this time their mother wasn’t with them. She observed them playing by themselves until late in the evening before heading home. The third day came and again the two kids played at the seaside until late in the evening, still without their mother s company. Then the elder brother was about to lead the sister back home. Out of curiosity and care Polly decided to follow them to their house. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Upon arrival, the kids invited Polly inside. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Polly took the mother to the hospital her son worked in. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Upon arrival, the kids invited Polly inside. The moment Polly stepped into the house, she was shocked to see the house in a mess with toys scattered everywhere on the floor. Meanwhile, she spotted Lydia lying in the sofa, coughing heavily. Seeing Polly approaching, Lydia struggled to sit up but failed. Apparently, Lydia was seriously sick and needed immediate treatment. When asked why she didn’t go to hospital, Lydia explained she was too weak to drive. Out of sympathy, Polly offered to drive her to the hospital. Polly took the mother to the hospital her son worked in. Having learned about the situation through the phone called by Polly, her son helped contact doctors. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (盯着他们). One day, Jatin took Neha’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed. So he begged his sister to keep it secret. Neha agreed and the two decided to share Jatin’ s running shoes. Neha’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Jatin. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Jatin often arrived late and was warned by the school. A long distance race was going to be held for the boys in the city. When Jatin learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes. The day of race arrived. Jatin had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Neha and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided (碰撞) with Jatin from behind and Jatin fell on the ground. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,开头已给出。 Jatin looked up and he saw the other boys rushing ahead. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Filled with pleasure, Jatin walked home in no time. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Jatin looked up and he saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this final and key point, Jatin struggled to jump to his feet and ran as fast as he could, though it was so painful for him. Eventually, he was the fourth one to dash across the finish line. Jatin couldn’t help sobbing at the thought of letting his sister down. But much to his surprise, the judge announced the third didn’t belong to the runner who collided with Jatin because he broke the rule and Jatin won the third prize. Jatin felt overjoyed and relieved during the award ceremony, holding the shoes close to his chest. Filled with pleasure, Jatin walked home in no time. He could not wait to see his sister and share the good news. On his arrival, Jatin found Neha was walking about outside nervously and anxiously. “Neha, see what I have got for you.” Jatin said excitedly, taking the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The instant Neha saw the shoes, her face lit up. “Thank you! Jatin.” Tears of joy welled up in their eyes as the brother and the sister hugged tightly together. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拒绝:refuse/ reject/ turn down ②抽泣:sob/ cry/ weep ③拥抱:hug/ embrace 情绪类 ①痛苦的:painful/ miserable ②非常高兴的:overjoyed/ delighted ③高兴:joy/ delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] Refusing to give up at this final and key point, Jatin struggled to jump to his feet and ran as fast as he could, though it was so painful for him.(运用了现在分词作状语和though引导的让步状语从句) [高分句型2] But much to his surprise, the judge announced the third didn’t belong to the runner who collided with Jatin because he broke the rule and Jatin won the third prize.(运用了省略了引导词that的宾语从句和who引导的定语从句以及because引导的原因状语从句) Passage 7 (23-24高一上·江苏泰州二中·期中) Jenny hated reading aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical(有魔力的). It was time to go home.”Remember to work on your class speeches for homework,” Miss Walker called as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed(叹气). As she turned the corner, she saw Lee's watch lying right in the middle of the path. Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn't want to run after him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. “I'm going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I've won lots, of competitions. But when I'm in a race, I'm not really thinking about winning. I'm just loving the feeling of being in the water...” Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really has something magic about it. The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Sean hated it that he couldn’t remember all of the sailing terms (术语) and skills his dad taught him. However, he pushed himself to ask, expecting his father’s response. “Which way are we turning?” “We’re coming about” his father said firmly. “That means we are turning into the wild. That way.” His father said, pointing to the right side of the boat. “Time for you to make a bowline knot (单套结)!” Sean reached for a rope and tried his best to make one. His father had taught him the skill dozens of times, which could not only help moor (停泊) the boat but also save everyone in emergency. After practising several times, he finally knew how to do this correctly and quickly. He looked back at his father, hoping for a praise. But his dad was looking up at the sail (帆), not at him. He untied the knot and dropped the rope under the seat, filled with a sense of loss. He looked up at the sky. Dark clouds gathered overhead and the wind began blowing. “Hey, Sean, come and take the wheel for a minute!” His father ordered. Sean didn’t want to, not did he want to see that disappointing look on his father’s face. “Uh, year!” Sean locked the sail in place and went to keep the wheel. “Just keep her going straight. I’m going to check something.” Sean held the wheel tightly. Suddenly, the wind changed direction. The boat shook sharply and even tipped (倾斜) to one side. “Dad!” he called, but no response. He didn’t see him anywhere on the sailboat. Just then, the water became calm a little. Sean caught the chance to look the wheel quickly. He looked out at the huge crashing waves. Then he saw it--- a flash of a figure. Much to his surprise, the figure in the water was his dad! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ He tied one end of the rope onto the boat and aimed the bowline knot at his dad. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Much to his surprise, the figure in the water was his dad! Sean reached for the rope that his father had used to teach him sailing knots now to save his father. As he recited the trick his father taught him, he formed the knot and pulled it tight. He knew that his dad’s life depended on his ability to throw the bowline knot accurately. Focused and determined, he aimed the knot towards his dad, who was struggling in the water. He tied one end of the rope onto the boat and aimed the bowline knot at his dad. Using his strength and the support of the rope, Sean’s dad managed to pull himself closer to the boat. Sean’s heart raced with relief as he reached out and grasped his father’s hand, pulling him back on board. Breathing heavily, both father and son embraced, their relief and gratitude palpable. “You saved me, Sean,” his dad whispered, his voice filled with pride and love. Sean couldn’t help but smile, finally feeling the affirmation he had longed for. 依靠:depend on /rely on ③. 专注的:focused/ concentrated 【点睛】[高分句型1] As he recited the trick his father taught him, he formed the knot and pulled it tight.  (运用了连词As引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Using his strength and the support of the rope, Sean’s dad managed to pull himself closer to the boat.(运用了现在分词作状语) 主题01 人与自我——个人经历 Passage 1 (24-25高一上·江苏无锡江阴·期中) The Real Champion I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. My classmates called me Incredible Dash. One day, there was a sporting event planned in my school. Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in almost every race there was. A large number of people gathered to watch. Crowds were eager to see the running race because it was the most exciting event. When the race for 400m started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first in the race and received a big round of applause. While it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of my world. In the race for 200m, I ran full speed and finished the race first once again. The crowd gave thundering claps to me. I jumped all over the ground and was not bothered to give handshakes to my fellow racers. Then came the race for 100m. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys quit the race except one, a boy named Matt who was invited as an honorary runner. Matt was born with low vision but he was a determined participant of many sports. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking whether he would like to quit too. I, wild with joy, thought I would win the champion without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to complete the event. I sniffed (嗤之以鼻), “It is a waste of time. I bet he even doesn’t figure out where the finish line is.” The race of two started. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran to the finish line, Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. At this moment I felt sad and ashamed that I couldn’t finish the race. I lay on the ground, unwilling to face the fact and the crowds. I imagined the sneering faces and don’t know how to react. Suddenly a hand reached out to me. I raised my head and found it’s Matt. “Let’s run together.” he said. There was just sincerity on his face, no mock. I believed I should trust him, and gave him my hand. Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. The crowds fell into silence, and then broke into loud applause. What did they applaud for? I think I know. Bowing to Matt, I thanked Matt for his help and admitted he was the champion. “No, I participate in the race not for the champion, just for the participation. You are very excellent.” he said. I was surprised at first, and then realized that the full engagement and good faith deserved the real champion. 完成:finish/complete ②.发现:find/discover ③. 不情愿的:unwilling/reluctant ②.嘲讽的:sneering/sarcastic 【点睛】[高分句型1] Bowing to Matt, I thanked Matt for his help and admitted he was the champion. He had recently been adopted by my parents and I was not in the mood for being on stage with him. “Kirstie, come here,” my mom called. Following her voice, I found her outside the bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake. “Henry’s book was in the bathtub. Did you put it there?” She glared at me, something she had never done before Henry came to our home. I hadn’t wet his book on purpose. Rain drops fell from my eyes. To make matters worse, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother’s love. He was ruining any life.   Meanwhile, Henry was nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot (绳结). something he liked to do. Why did a boy like him like doing girl work? It seemed far from manly Soon, it was time to set off to the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice, “It will be Henry’s first time on stage. Be kind to him, honey.” I nodded but sighed (叹气). I hadn’t always found it this difficult to be kind. But since Henry had moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn’t seem so special any more. Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a while. He immediately came to my aid. He pulled up my skirt and skillfully tied the drawstring with a beautiful knot. Seeing what Henry did for me, something deep in my mind began to change. It seemed as if my cold heart began to melt slowly and my annoyance at him gradually gave way to guilt. I regretted having treated him as a stranger. While my mind was wandering, our performance time came. It turned out a great success, thunderous applause filling the whole theatre. After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. “Thanks,” I said with a grateful smile on my face. I had to admit that but for his timely help, I would have been extremely embarrassed. Without his knotting skill, the performance would have been quite different. “KNOT a problem. You are my sister,” he grinned innocently, saying humorously. Surrounded by the cheerful atmosphere, I felt a flood of warmth of a big family. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to have a new person in my corner of the world after all. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①帮助:come to one’s aid/give sb. a hand ②改变:change/alter ③将……视为:treat...as/regard...as 情绪类 ①后悔:regret/feel sorry for ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】[高分句型1] It seemed as if my cold heart began to melt slowly and my annoyance at him gradually gave way to guilt. Everything seemed more colorful than usual. The sky was very blue, and the leaves on the big maple tree were turning yellow and red. “Jacob, wake up!” she called, “Fall is here!” Jacob came in and smiled, “I’m already up. Mom said we could go to the pumpkin field today.” Tyler jumped out of bed and got dressed. They ate breakfast quickly and were very excited to head to the pumpkin field. Once they got there, Tyler ran over to a basket that was full of tiny, orange pumpkins. Each one could fit in her hand. “Let’s get this!” she cried. “No way,” Jacob said, “Those are much too small to carve into a good Jack-O’-Lantern(南瓜灯).” So they kept walking into the field to search for a suitable one. They walked slowly so they wouldn’t trip (绊倒) on the vines or any of the bright orange pumpkins. “What about this one?” Jacob asked. He reached down to pick up a pumpkin. It was so big that he couldn’t even lift it off the ground. Tyler laughed, “How would we get it in the car?” They kept looking, but they could not agree on a perfect pumpkin. There was always something not quite right. Sometimes the stem was too long, or the pumpkin had a flat side. As they were about to give up and head home, Jacob tripped over a pumpkin. Tyler caught his arm before he fell to the ground. They looked at the pumpkin together. It was not too small or too large. It was perfectly round. It had a neat, brown stem that would make a good handle when they cut a cap out of the pumpkin and hollowed(挖) it out to hold a candle. Tyler and Jacob didn’t say a word. They just smiled at each other and reached down to pick up the pumpkin. Together they carried it to the car and headed home. They put the pumpkin on the kitchen table. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mom heard the pumpkin fall to the floor and rushed into the kitchen immediately. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 They put the pumpkin on the kitchen table. “Mom, we found the perfect pumpkin,”Tyler said excitedly. Mom smiled and got out a large knife, and they all worked together to cut off the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the inside. They carved a face into the pumpkin and placed a candle inside. It was a beautiful Jack-O'-Lantern. Mom heard the pumpkin fall to the floor and rushed into the kitchen immediately. She saw the broken pumpkin and the nervous Jacob who explained that he accidentally knocked it over while trying to carry it to the porch. Mom hugged him and told them not to be disappointed and they could always get another pumpkin. But Tyler and Jacob didn't want to give up this one. So, they carefully picked up the pieces and glued them back together. The Jack-O'-Lantern wasn't as perfect as before, but it was still special to them. And when they lit the candle inside, it still glowed brightly, just like their love for each other. 词汇激活 行为类 ①放:put/place/position ②放弃:give up /abandon ③看见:see/spot/catch sight of 情绪类 ①感到紧张:feel nervous/feel stressed ②垂头丧气的:be disappointed/be frustrated 【点睛】[高分句型1] They all worked together to cut off the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the inside.(使用了动词不定式作状语) [高分句型2] She saw the broken pumpkin and the nervous Jacob who explained that he accidentally knocked it over while trying to carry it to the porch.(使用了以Jacob为先行词、关系代词who为引导词的定语从句) Passage 3 (23-24高一上·江苏常州金坛·期中) I am not good at sports. In high school, for example, I joined the soccer team for a year-and even when my team was losing 9-0, the coach still kept me on the bench However, I once won a medal, which I’ve kept on my desk till today, in the New York City Marathon (马拉松) — a long running race of about 42 kilometers. It’s not a gold medal that I can show off to others proudly. I kept it there because it reminds me that every big goal can always be broken down into individual steps. And when you gather enough steps, you’ll make it to the finish line. Step by step, you can make what seems impossible possible. It was in 2010 that I entered for the New York City Marathon. I’d never run a marathon before. I’d never even run 5 km. So why did I do this? Because I needed a big goal. Caught up in a difficult stage of life, I wanted something to work for, to prove that I could achieve something. So I entered for the preliminary (预赛) running race by which a small number of people are chosen to enter the marathon. Most people worked for years to qualify (有资格). Me? Somehow, my name was drawn. I was in, yet I was nervous, wondering how to make it to the finish line. I figured the only way to finish 42 km was to start by running just one kilometer. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then, one cold November morning. I showed up at the starting line with more than 45, 000 other people and ran the marathon. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I figured the only way to finish 42 km was to start by running just one kilometer. Driven by the strong desire to prove myself, I determined to make running a daily routine. But even one kilometer proved too hard.  I ran a few minutes at a time, and then walked to catch my breath.  Instead of backing down, I repeated that for months before I found that I could easily finish one kilometer.  Gradually, that one became two, and then three.... Step by step, I became a runner. Then, one cold November morning, I showed up at the starting line with more than 45,000 other people and ran the marathon. Despite the nervousness at heart, I found myself rushing out at the sound of the starting gun. Did I win? Of course not. Was my time something that “real” runners would consider ridiculously slow? You bet. Did I run the same 42 km as everyone else, cross the finish line with joy, and receive my medal with pride? Absolutely. Life didn’t go any easier after the marathon, but because of the marathon, I had a model for how to approach the difficulties---step by step. 词汇激活 行为类 ①完成:finish/complete/ accomplish ②认为:consider/think ③处理:approach/handle/deal with 情绪类 ①紧张:nervousness/tension/strain ②快乐:joy/delight/pleasure 【点睛】[高分句型1] Driven by the strong desire to prove myself, I determined to make running a daily routine.(运用了非谓语动词中的过去分词作状语) [高分句型2] Instead of backing down, I repeated that for months before I found that I could easily finish one kilometer.(运用了连词before引导的时间状语从句) Passage 4 (23-24高一上·江苏常州·期中) When I arrived at 6 a.m. in the large hospital kitchen, Rose was already checking name tags on the trays(托盘). “Hi, I’m Janet.” I tried to sound cheerful, although I already knew Rose’s reputation for being impossible to work with. “I’m scheduled to work with you this week.” Rose stopped what she was doing and peered over her reading glasses. I could tell from her expression she wasn’t pleased to see a student worker. “What do you want me to do? Start the coffee?” I asked. Rose coldly nodded and went back to checking name tags. I filled the 40-cup pot with water and began making the coffee when Rose yelled,“That’s not the way to make coffee.” She stepped in and took over. Nothing I did pleased her. All morning, her eagle eyes missed nothing and her sharp words hurt. Totally exhausted, I trudged the six blocks home late that June afternoon. As a third-year university student working my way through school, I had never before met anyone like Rose. Fighting back tears, I wrestled with my dilemma alone in my room. “What shall I do?” The answer caught me completely by surprise. I needed to love Rose. Working with Rose the next morning, I ignored the hurtful remarks thrown in my direction and did things Rose’s way as much as possible. As I worked, I silently began to surround Rose with a warm blanket of love. Over the next few days, an amazing thing began to happen. My focus shifted from what she was doing to me and I started seeing Rose as the hurting person she was. Then her icy tension began to melt away. Throughout the rest of the summer,we had numerous opportunities to work together. Each time, she seemed truly happy to see me. Her bitterness gave way as she started opening up. As I worked with this lonely woman, I listened to her, something no one else had done. I learned that she was burdened by elderly parents who needed her care and her own health problems. She even told me everything about her plan of finding a proper new job in secret.      The days slipped by quickly as I finished the last several weeks of my summer job. I soon would be returning as a full-time university student and say goodbye to Rose. One day, while I was working alone in one of the hospital kitchens, Rose entered the room without wearing her blue uniform. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Although I never saw Rose again, I still remember her vividly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 One day, while I was working alone in one of the hospital kitchens, Rose entered the room without wearing her blue uniform. Instead of that, she was wearing street clothes. I looked at her in surprise. “Aren’t you working today?” “I’ve got another job and won’t be working here any more,” she said as she walked over and gave me a quick hug. “I just come here to say goodbye. You are the one person I will truly miss. You are the one person I wish I could take with me, my dearest friend.” Then she turned abruptly and walked out of the door. Although I never saw Rose again, I still remember her vividly. That summer, I learned a lesson I’ve never forgotten. The world is full of people like Rose: annoying, demanding, unlovable on the outside, yet hurting inside. Just as the saying goes every rose has its thorn, and every man’s character has a part of you that you can’t stand. I’ve found that a warm blanket of love is the best way to nurture a rose, to develop a friendship. 词类激活 行为类 ①走出门扣:walk out of the door/step out of the door ②忍受:stand/bear/tolerate 情绪类 ①吃惊地:in surprise/in amazement ②讨厌的:annoying/nasty 【点睛】[高分句型1] “I’ve got another job and won’t be working here any more,” she said as she walked over and gave me a quick hug.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] I’ve found that a warm blanket of love is the best way to nurture a rose, to develop a friendship.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) Passage 5 (23-24高一上·江苏泰州姜堰·期中) Jackson’s family hired a driver. The driver’s family came to stay with them in a small house in their backyard. That’s how Jackson met the driver’s eight-year-old son Tom. From the day he met Jackson, Tom became his fan. For Tom, 11-year-old Jackson seemed to be a big boy. He would always follow Jackson around. Tom didn’t go to school. He was admitted to a local government school, but he refused to go. He told Jackson shyly that the teachers only made them copy words from the blackboard. Since he hadn’t learned how to read, he could not understand anything that was written on the blackboard.  Jackson felt sorry for him. On Sunday, Jackson saw Tom sitting under a tree holding an alphabet (字母表) book in his hands. Jackson walked quietly towards him and discovered that Tom was holding the book upside down. Jackson took the book out of Tom’s hands and turned the right side up. “This is how you should read,” he told Tom. Two big tears rolled down Tom’s cheeks. Tom told Jackson, “I want to be like you, but I can’t do anything.” That evening, Jackson told his parents they had to help Tom get into a better school. It was not easy to make Tom admitted to a new school, because the time for admission was over. Luckily, one principal (校长) looked at Tom kindly and admitted him to her school. The next day Tom went to his new school wearing a new shirt. But when Tom returned from school, he was a bit sad. The other children in his class had laughed at him. With Jackson’s help, Tom began to understand the thing that was wrotten on the blackboard slowly. Two months later, Tom returned from school with a bright smile. He rushed into the house and could not wait to tell Jackson good news that he was praised by the teacher, who said he made such great progress in a short time. Mother’s Day was coming up, and he didn’t have a present. “How can I buy a present without money?” he thought. Jim picked up the newspaper that was lying on the couch. He noticed a large advertisement on the front page. The local department store was sponsoring a contest. “Tell us why your mom is special and win a shopping spree(疯狂购物) for her,” said the ad. “This is perfect!” thought Jim. He ran to his room with the newspaper, taking a pencil and a blank piece of paper from his desk, he started to write. “My mom is the best mother in the world. She always makes a lunch for me to take to school, and she never forgets my dessert. She reads as many books to me before bed as I want. She always remembers to check under the bed for monsters. And she gives the best hug, but never in front of my friends, who would laugh at me for hugging my mom.” Jim liked what he had written. He copied it neatly and got an envelope and a stamp from his dad. He ran to the mailbox with his entry(参赛作品), “Mom will love having a shopping spree,” he thought. Jim checked the mailbox every day for his prize. Days passed by, and then weeks. Soon it was the day before Mother’s Day. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 2 (24-25高一上·江苏南通海门中学·期中) Every day, Andrew would do everything in his own way. Ann was my best friend, the only other girl in the neighborhood, and I didn’t want her to go. With their bright-color and soft leather, the boots were my most cherished possession “I’ll stay if you’ll give me those,” Ann said. Then it hit me that I needed someone to push me to write. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 5 (24-25高一上·江苏泰兴·期中) Polly Goodman, 82-year-old, was a rich old woman. Upon arrival, the kids invited Polly inside. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Polly took the mother to the hospital her son worked in. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 6 (23-24高一上·江苏前黄高级中学·期中) Jatin and his younger sister, Neha, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks One day, Jatin took Neha’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. Jatin looked up and he saw the other boys rushing ahead. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Filled with pleasure, Jatin walked home in no time. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 7 (23-24高一上·江苏泰州二中·期中) Jenny hated reading aloud in class. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily, “It went missing at school yesterday.” Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 8 (23-24高一上·江苏南京鼓楼·期中) Sean turned to look at his father, who was standing confidently on his new sailboat. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题01 人与自我——个人经历 Passage 1 (24-25高一上·江苏无锡江阴·期中) The Real Champion I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. Just 30 meters before arriving at the finish line, I was expecting to receive the applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm (抽筋). I fell hard to the ground. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题02 人与自我——家人和亲人 Passage 1 (24-25高一上·江苏南京·期中) My New Brother I was in my room, feeling unwilling to head to the community theatre with my brother Henry. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the draw string on my skirt. However, my hands are full. If only someone could help me out. Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 主题03 人与自我——个人经历 Passage 1 (24-25高一上·江苏镇江·期中) Jenny hated reading aloud in class. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 3 (23-24高一上·江苏常州金坛·期中) I am not good at sports. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 4 (23-24高一上·江苏常州·期中) When I arrived at 6 a.m. in the large hospital kitchen, Rose was already checking name tags on the trays(托盘). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 5 (23-24高一上·江苏泰州姜堰·期中) Jackson’s family hired a driver. He told Jackson, “They all said I am much older than them but in a smaller class. I don’t want to go to school.” Jackson said, “Don’t worry, Tom, I will teach you to read." ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two months later, Tom returned from school with a bright smile. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage 6 (24-25高一上·江苏泰州中学·期中) Jim slumped on the couch. Jim still hadn’t heard anything about the contest. “What am I going to do now?” he wondered. He didn’t have a present, and he didn’t have a shopping spree, and he still didn’t have any money.
