1A new study came out in the UK on August 4th,2025.It found something surprising:
eating lots of ultra-processed()foods (UPFs)can make it harder to lose weight, even if
the diet follows national healthy-eating advice.
2The research tested 55 adults over several months. They were asked to follow an 8-week
diet,eating minimally(最低限度)processed foods(MPFs),such as home-cooked meals,and
another 8-week diet, eating UPFs.UPFs are made by mixing foods with additives(and
other ingredients-just like in some snacks and ready-to-eat meals. Both diets were designed to
match the UK's Eatwell Guide.Between the two diets, the participants()ate their usual
food for 4 weeks to set their bodies back to how they are at the beginning of the research. All
meals, snacks and drinks were sent to their homes, but they could choose how much to eat and
when-making the study more like real life.
3Results showed that people lost weight on both diets. However, those on the MPF diet
lost twice as much weight:1.84 kg compared to 0.88 kg in the UPF group.MPFs also lowered
body fat and make it possible for people not to eat more food than they really need.UPFs did
not have these effects.
4Why do UPFs make weight loss harder? The study points out how they are processed
plays a big role.Processing changes the structure of foods, which can make you feel full more
slowly. So people eat more without realizing it.Additives and heat treatment may also affect gut
bacteria(肠道菌群),which makes weight control harder..
5In the UK,over half of people's daily energy comes from UPFs.Similar situations are in
other European countries and the United States.UPFs are the first choice of people who eam
less money because they are much cheaper.
BResearchers say the food environment also matters.Unhealthy diets are often not a result
of personal choice but a result of food environment around us.People already know they have
too much salt and sugar. However,UPFs are cheap and easy-to-get.They bring more money to
sellers.

7This study is the longest-lasting one of its kind in real-life situations among similar
studies. It helps people know the importance of rethinking what healthy foods are.And the
national diet guide should pay more attention to food processing.
56.Which picture can show the results of the research?
Time (Week)
Time (Week)
57.Why did the researchers ask participants to return to their usual food for four weeks between
the two diets?
A.To see which kind of food participants liked more.
B.To help participants get into a healthy eating habit slowly.
C.To give their bodies a break and let them relax from the study.
D.To make sure the first diet didn't change the results of the second one.
58.Which of the following would the author MOST probably agree with?
A.The best kitchen is a garden.
B.Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
C.You can't have your cake and eat it too.

As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the victory
over fascism(反法西斯),a moving Chinese film,Dead To
Rights, gives us a special look at history. The film does not
show big war scenes.Instead,it uses the photo studio to
show how ordinary people wake up and fight back in
difficult times of history.
In the fallen city, among those who find safety in
Jixiang Photo Studio is a postman called Su Liucnang, played by Liu Haoran. He was ordered to
develop films for Japanese soldiers,he accidentally finds photos that show their cruel crimes.
They risked their lives to keep these photos and show them to the world.
Dead To Rights turns out to be a huge success All the actors and actresses are strictly
chosen and they all play their roles very well.Besides,a lot of preparation has been made before
shooting the movie, such as technical work, realistic sets, background music and historical facts.
However, there is something more. When the studio owner Lao Jin shouts,"Every inch of
our beautiful land must never be given up,"or when modern Nanjing streets are intercut(
with wartime ruins, viewers feel deeply what our forefathers()have done to protect truth
and dignity."While watching the movie,I see not just history coming to life like a photo, but a
symbol of a strong, unbroken spirit of our nation,"a 24-year-old university student from
Nanjing says.
