Every day, my room was something different. The hours away at school were long enough to cause a terrible change to my peaceful harbor. Today was no exception. As I entered the house, Mom greeted me with a smile. It seemed like nothing was wrong. But I was doubtful about it. Yesterday, around the mouth of my favorite figurine (小雕像) was a chocolate cookie. Obviously, Callie enjoyed the cookie so that she wanted to share it with my angel. I looked around for Callie, who had just turned three. I didn’t see her, but I heard the TV blaring (发出声音) in the other room. As I examined the family room, I noticed it was pretty messy. There were toys all over the floor, but none of them seemed to be mine. Maybe she hadn’t entered today. I was so hopeful that I breathed a sigh of relief. I pushed my room door open and saw damage! There were a few headless dolls, some broken blocks, and a few juice-stained stuffed animals. “She did it again!” I screamed in anger. My mother ran up to me, embarrassed. She promised to put a Callie-proof lock on my door tonight. I felt better, because I knew that soon my room would truly belong to me. However, I was still angry with my little sister so I went into the family room to tell her how she had made life unpleasant for me. She leaped off the sofa and hugged my knees with such happiness that I could only look down at her and smile. After all she was only three and learning about the world in her own way. And she always chose to explore and destroy my room because she loved me, her big sister. 4. Which of the following statements is not true? A. The author’s room today was messy as usual. B. The figurine was author’s sister’s favorite toy. C. The purpose of the first paragraph is to introduce the background of the story. D. The hours away at school were long enough for author’s sister to cause a change to her room. 5. Which of the following best describes the author’s sister? A. Smart and potential. B. Naughty and lovely. C. Horrible and awkward. D. Shallow and energetic. 6. How did the author react first when she found her room was messed up? A. She was friendly to her sister. B. She refused to accept her sister’s apology. C. She was angry with her sister. D. She thought her sister had done nothing wrong. 7. What finally helped the writer feel good again? A. The love between sisters. B. The promise to her sister. C. Her sister’s honesty. D. Her sister’s younger age. B 5. B 6. C 7. Yet sometimes people themselves create barriers (障碍) to transportation and communication. In some countries, laws stop people from moving freely from place to place. Over the centuries, many groups of people have been denied the freedom to travel because of their race, religion, or nationality. In the Middle Ages, for example, Jews were often forbidden to move about freely within certain cities. South Africa’s government used to require black Africans to carry passes when they travel within the country. Some governments require all citizens to carry identification papers and to report to government officials when they move. Countries set up customs posts at their borders. Foreign travellers must go through a customs inspection before they are allowed to travel in the country. Usually travelers have to carry special papers such as passports and visas (签证). Some countries even limit the number of visitors to their country each year. Others allow tourists to visit only certain areas of the country, or they may require that travellers be with an official guide at all times during their stay. Many of those barriers to travel also act as barriers to communication. When two governments have conflicts with each other on important matters, they usually do not want their citizens to exchange news or ideas freely. Countries often try to keep military or industrial information secret. Today, people have the ability to travel, to communicate, and to transport goods more quickly and easily than ever before. Natural barriers that were difficult or dangerous to cross a hundred years ago can now be crossed easily. The barriers that people themselves make are not so easy to overcome. But in spite of all the different kinds of barriers, people continue to enjoy travel and the exchange of goods and ideas. 8. The examples in Paragraph 1 are used to tell the readers that ________. A. transportation and communication networks bring people together B. it’s important to prevent people from transporting and communicating C. people made it difficult for themselves to transport and communicate D. natural barriers mainly influenced transportation and communication 9. How is the 2nd paragraph mainly organized? A. By listing several facts. B. By listing several figures. C. By following the order of time. D. By following the order of importance. 10. Which of the following may lead to people’s less communication between countries? A. People today have the ability to travel without any of the barriers. B. The governments can’t reach agreement each other on big issues. C. Citizens of some countries aren’t good at exchanging news or ideas. D. Countries require their citizens to keep all the information secret. 11. We may learn from the passage that ________. A. people can not remove the obstacles made by nature and themselves B. man-made barriers are sometimes harder to overcome than natural ones C. with so many barriers, people can’t travel and exchange goods and ideas D. natural barriers have always been difficult and dangerous to cross for us 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段中“Yet sometimes people themselves create barriers (障碍) to transportation and communication.(然而,有时人们自己创建运输和通讯障碍。)” 根据文章第二段“Countries set up customs posts at their borders. Foreign travellers must go through a customs inspection before they are allowed to travel in the country. Usually travelers have to carry special papers such as passports and visas (签证). Others allow tourists to visit only certain areas of the country, or they may require that travellers be with an official guide at all times during their stay.(各国在边境设立了海关。外国旅客在获准入境前必须经过海关检查。通常游客必须携带特殊文件如护照和签证。一些国家甚至限制每年到他们国家的游客数量。其他国家只允许游客访问该国的某些地区,或者他们可能会要求游客在逗留期间一直有官方导游陪同。)”可知,本段主要列出了各种人为造成的交通与交流障碍的事实。可知,通过列举一些事实展开论述。故选A。 3. 根据文章第三段中“When two governments have conflicts with each other on important matters, they usually do not want their citizens to exchange news or ideas freely.(当两国政府在重要问题上发生冲突时,他们通常不希望本国公民自由交换消息或观点。)” 根据文章最后一段中“Natural barriers that were difficult or dangerous to cross a hundred years ago can now be crossed easily. The barriers that people themselves make are not so easy to overcome.(一百年前难以跨越的自然屏障现在可以轻松跨越。但是人们自己制造的障碍不是那么容易克服的。)” 可知,人为障碍有时比自然障碍更难克服。故选B。 D Students who are better able to understand and manage their emotions effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence (EI), do better at school than their less-skilled classmates, according to research published by the American Psychological Association. “It’s not enough to be smart and hardworking. Students must also be able to understand and manage their emotions to succeed at school,” said Carolyn MacCann, lead author of the study. MacCann and her colleagues analyzed data from more than 160 studies, representing more than 42,000 students from 27 countries. The students ranged in age from primary school to college. The researchers found that students with higher EI tended to get higher grades and better achievement test scores than those with lower EI scores. This finding held true even when controlling for intelligence and personality factors. What was most surprising to the researchers was the association held despite different ages. “Students with higher EI may be better able to manage negative emotions, such as anxiety, boredom and disappointment.” she said. “Also, these students may be better able to manage the social world around them, forming better relationships with teachers, classmates and family, all of which are important to academic success.” Finally, the skills required for EI, such as understanding human motivation and emotion, may overlap with (与……重叠) the skills required to master certain subjects, such as history and language, giving students an advantage in those subject areas, according to MacCann. However, MacCann cautions against widespread testing of students to identify and target those with low El. Instead, she recommends interventions that involve the whole school, including additional teacher training and a focus on teacher well-being and emotional skills. “Programs that integrate emotional skill development into the existing curriculum would be beneficial, as research suggests that training works better when run by teachers rather than external specialists,” she said. 12. What surprised the researchers most during MacCann’s study? A. Intelligence mattered more than El for academic success. B. EI had an effect on learning for students of all ages. C. College students benefited more from EI than pupils. D. Personality affected academic performance greatly. 13. What can be a reason for the conclusion of MacCann’s study? A. High-EI students hardly experience negative emotions. B. High-EI students seldom develop social relationships. C. High-EI students tend to easily focus on their study. D. High-EI students have helpful skills for certain subjects. 14. What does MacCann suggest in the last paragraph? A. Equipping teachers with emotional skills. B. Designing tests to identify students with low EI. C. Developing special programs for students with low EI. D. Employing emotional specialists to give training to students. 15 What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Should EI be taught in school? B. How can students develop high EI? C. Students with high EI do better in school D. Good students do better in managing emotions 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段中“The researchers found that students with higher EI tended to get higher grades and better achievement test scores than those with lower EI scores. What was most surprising to the researchers was the association held despite different ages.(研究人员发现,与情商较低的学生相比,情商较高的学生往往获得更高的成绩和更好的成就测试分数。即使在控制了智力和性格因素后,这一发现仍然成立。最令研究人员惊讶的是,尽管年龄不同,这种联系仍然存在)”可知,让研究人员最惊讶的是情商(EI)对各个年龄段学生的学习都有影响。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Finally, the skills required for EI, such as understanding human motivation and emotion, may overlap with (与……重叠) the skills required to master certain subjects, such as history and language, giving students an advantage in those subject areas, according to MacCann.(MacCann表示,最后,情商所需的技能,如理解人类的动机和情感,可能与掌握某些学科(如历史和语言)所需的技能重叠,使学生在这些学科领域具有优势)”可知,高情商的学生拥有对某些学科有帮助的技能,这是MacCann研究得出结论的一个原因。 根据最后一段中“Instead, she recommends interventions that involve the whole school, including additional teacher training and a focus on teacher well-being and emotional skills.(相反,她建议采取涉及整个学校的干预措施,包括额外的教师培训,以及关注教师的幸福感和情感技能)”可知,MacCann在最后一段建议给教师配备情感技能。故选A。 根据第一段中“Students who are better able to understand and manage their emotions effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence (EI), do better at school than their less-skilled classmates, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.(美国心理协会发表的一项研究表明,能够有效理解和控制自己情绪的学生,即具备情商(EI)这一技能的学生,在学校的表现要比那些情商较低的同学好)”以及下文对这项研究的详细介绍可知,本文主要讲的是高情商的学生在学校表现更好,C选项“Students with high EI do better in school(高情商的学生在学校表现更好)”最适合作文章标题。 Have you been wishing to put on your hiking shoes and enter the woods for a little backpacking trip, but you’re not sure exactly where to start? As children of the lab scientists, Mary and Tom often observed the emperor penguins that were studied to understand how they adapted to extreme temperatures —insights that could aid human survival. “We’re thirteen, Tom. It’s time to grow up and stop playing with the lab penguins,” said Mary as she started cleaning. “They’re research animals, not pets.” “But the birds listen to me.” insisted Tom, his breath forming a cloud in the freezing air. “You’re just trying to be a penguin whisperer again,” Mary replied, shaking her head with a gentle smile. The penguins seemed playful as they walked, dove, swam and chased their live fish for sport before eating. Suddenly , an alarm rang out and red lights flashed , signaling a problem. The kids rushed over to look into it. “It’s colder than before —there’s ice forming on the water,” noted Tom. Though always cold, Mary had never seen ice here before. She checked the habitat monitor and found that the temperature had gone down a lot. “The heater must be broken!” Mary quickly sent a message to their parents’ research team who were conducting outdoor studies. With the adults away, the kids would have to deal with the freezing conditions until help arrived. Time dragged as Mary and Tom anxiously waited. The increasing cold caused them to shake. “I wonder what emperor penguins do in extreme cold, since they stay in the Pole all winter instead of going somewhere warmer,” asked Mary. “They huddle (挤作一团), ” Tom answered. “They huddle together tightly so that the birds in the middle will be warm enough.” “What about the ones on the edge?” Mary asked. “They push their way towards the center, and then move back out to the edge, and struggle back again. Scientists in the early 21st century recorded it.” He replied as he stared at the large crowd of the penguins in the lab. ”I have an idea to stay warm1" Tom shouted excitedly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two and a half hours later , the parents returned with help. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“I have an idea to stay warm!” Tom shouted excitedly. Spreading his arms he suggested joining the penguin huddles. Worried that the penguins wouldn’t let them, Mary hesitated but was soon persuaded by Tom’s assuring grin. He slowly approached the crowded penguins, crouching down. Gently stroking them with care, he whispered softly. Though startled at first, the penguins recognized Tom and let him into their group. Mary quickly followed. The children squeezed into the huddle’s edge with the penguins. Just as the birds did, they moved toward the middle and back out as the group shifted. Two and a half hours later, the parents returned with help. Rushing in calling for the kids, they were surprised. The children were safely surrounded by Emperors in a large bundle. When asked how they stayed warm, the kids looked at each other proudly. “We used what the Emperor Penguins do,” they told their parents. Mary patted Tom’s shoulder with admiration, calling him a penguin whisperer. With a big smile, Tom gave credit to the penguins who taught them a lot. Their teamwork had seen them through the difficult cold with the penguins’ aid. 词汇激活 行为类 ①建议:suggest/advise ②靠近:approach/come close to ③称赞:give credit to/praise 情绪类 ①担忧的:worried/concerned/anxious ②惊讶的:surprised/amazed/astonished 【点睛】【高分句型1】When asked how they stayed warm, the kids looked at each other proudly.(运用了how引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型 How much is the shirt? After all, she was only three and learning about the world in her own way. And she always chose to explore and destroy my room because she loved me, her big sister. 4. Which of the following statements is not true? A. The author’s room today was messy as usual. B. The figurine was author’s sister’s favorite toy. C. The purpose of the first paragraph is to introduce the background of the story. D. C Transportation and communication networks bring people together. A. people can not remove the obstacles made by nature and themselves B. man-made barriers are sometimes harder to overcome than natural ones C. with so many barriers, people can’t travel and exchange goods and ideas D. natural barriers have always been difficult and dangerous to cross for us D Students who are better able to understand and manage their emotions effectively, a skill known as emotional intelligence (EI), do better at school than their less-skilled classmates, according to research published by the American Psychological Association. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Should EI be taught in school? B. How can students develop high EI? C. Students with high EI do better in school D. Good students do better in managing emotions 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多,余选项。 Have you been wishing to put on your hiking shoes and enter the woods for a little backpacking trip, but you’re not sure exactly where to start? “The heater must be broken!” Mary quickly sent a message to their parents’ research team, who were conducting outdoor studies. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 ”I have an idea to stay warm1" Tom shouted excitedly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two and a half hours later , the parents returned with help. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
