A. has a strong writing ability B. has special talent for stage design C. wants to master singing skills D. wants to learn musical instruments B As a child I was proud of my southern origin. My own voice reflected my family’s past and present-part northern Mississippi, part Tennessee, all southern. There was no sound I loved more than my grandmother’s accent: thick, sweet, warm. While growing up, I began to realize outside of our region, southerners were often dismissed as uncultured and ignorant. I was ready to leave behind my tiny town in West Tennessee, starting a new life and jumping at big chances in some far-off cities. In that embarrassing space between “teen” and “adult”, my accent was a symbol of everything I thought I hated about my life in the rural South. I feared it would disqualify me from being a noted magazine writer. I would have to talk less “country”. So I killed a piece of myself. I’m ashamed of it, but I’m more ashamed that I tried to kill that part of someone else-change Emily’s accent. I met Emily in college. She was determined to work for the student newspaper, which was where I spent most of my waking hours, and we became friends. She, unlike me, accepted her roots. Early in our friendship, her mother asked where I was from, assuming it was somewhere up north. Then I felt my efforts paid off and even wanted to ignore the mistake. Emily is two years younger and she cared about my opinion. I advised her to be more like me and hide her signature Manchester accent. I stressed that throughout our college years, often by making fun of her vowel (元音) sounds. I told myself I was helping her achieve her dream of working as a reporter. Now, I see that it was actually about justifying my hiding part of myself. Grandma Carolyn used to tell me, “Girl, don’t forget where you come from.” Now I truly understand that. Many things have faded from memory, but this sticks in my mind with uncomfortable clarity. Now that I am grown and have left the South, it’s important to me. 4 What made the author want to leave her hometown? A. Appeal of convenience in cities. B. Her dream of becoming a writer. C. Outside prejudice against southerners. D. Her desire for the northern accent. 5. How did the author feel about the mistake of Emily’s mother? A. Upset. B. Pleased. C. Ashamed. D. Surprised. 6. Why on earth did the author try to change Emily’s accent? A. To prove herself right. B. To help Emily be a reporter. C. To make herself influential. D. To protect Emily’s self-dignity. 7. What message does the text want to convey? A. Stay true to your roots. B. Never do things by halves. C. Hold on to your dreams. D. Never judge a person by his accent. C Have you ever wondered about the universal layout (布局) of supermarkets? Smart designers are behind it, subtly tempting you to walk through each aisle and fill your cart without even realizing it. Grocery store design is a carefully crafted art from both psychological and marketing standpoints, according to Reeves Connelly, who studied architectural design at the Pratt Institute. He explained there is a specific reason why fruit and vegetables are often located at the front of the store, “You’ll grab the fruits and vegetables first and then hopefully feel less guilty about buying junk food later on.” Meanwhile, essential items such as milk and eggs are placed at the back of the store to ensure customers walk through other aisles with many unhealthy options like snacks and sodas, potentially increasing the likelihood of impulse purchases. There’s also a reason why you often feel lost in local supermarkets. Shockingly, they move things around. Reeves explained, “They are very much aware that these strategies become less effective after you visit the store a few times and get a better sense of where everything is, so they’ll regularly move the products to different aisles to confuse you. The practice is not limited to a specific store but is employed across various retail chains.” “Their little tricks always work on me,” one regular shopper admits, “I walk in to get three things and end up spending $300; that’s why I hate grocery shopping,” he said. On the other hand, some shoppers are proud to declare they have never fallen into the trap. “That’s why I always keep a shopping list on me,” another shopper shared. “I’ve started having my groceries delivered. If I have to go to the store, I never grab a cart. If I can’t carry it, I’m not buying it,” he added. 8. What is the purpose of the supermarket layout? A. To encourage healthy lifestyle. B. To save consumers’ shopping time. C. To provide multiple goods for choice. D. To promote non-essential consumption. 9. What does the underlined word “practice” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. Distributing junk food in different areas. B. Putting milk and eggs at the back of aisles. C. Rearranging products in supermarkets regularly. D. Placing fruit and vegetables at the front of the store. 10. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Shopping baskets are better than heavy carts. B. Most shoppers are trapped in marketing tricks. C. Grocery delivery can help improve supermarket sales. D. Taking a shopping list can be a smart move to avoid impulse buying. 11. Where is this text most likely from? A. A business magazine. B. A psychology report. C. A research paper. D. A shopping guidebook. D Teenagers who talk on the cell phone a lot, and hold their phones up to their right ears, score worse on one type of memory test. That’s the finding of a new study. That memory impairment might be one side effect of the radiation (放射线) that phones use to keep us connected while we’re on the go. The teens took memory tests twice, one year apart. Nearly 700 Swiss teens took part in a test of figural memory. This type helps us remember abstract (抽象的) symbols and shapes, explains Milena Foerster. Each time, they had one minute to remember 13 pairs of abstract shapes. Then they were shown one item from each pair and asked to match it with one of the five choices. The study volunteers also took a test of verbal memory. That’s the ability to remember words. The two memory tests are part of an intelligence test. The researchers also surveyed the teens on how they use cell phones. And they got call records from phone companies. The researchers used those records to figure out how long the teens were using their phones. This allowed the researchers to work out how big radiation exposure (接触) each person could have got while talking. A phone user’s exposure to the radiation can differ widely. Some teens talk on their phones more than others. People also hold their phones differently. If the phone is close to the ear, more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes. The teens’ scores in the figural memory tests were roughly the same from one year to the next. But those who normally held their phones near the right ears, and who were also exposed to higher levels of radiation, scored a little bit worse after a year. No group of teens showed big changes on the verbal memory test. Why might one type of memory be linked to cell phone use, but not another? Foerster thinks it could have to do with where different memory centers sit in the brain. The site that deals with the ability to remember shapes is near the right ear. 12. The underlined word “impairment” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean “_______”. A. result. B. damage. C. mistake. D. improvement. 13. Which of the following can be learned from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3? A. The teens took two types of memory tests four times in total. B. The teens needed to report the average time spent on their phones. C. Researchers paid little attention to the teens’ habits of using phones. D. The teens’ ability of remembering words is shown in figural memory test. 14. According to the study, teens who use their phones to their right ears a lot do worse in _______. A. matching numbers. B. reading signals. C. remembering shape. D. learning words. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Cell Phone Use and Safety Warnings. B. Facts About Cell Phone Use at School. C. Dangerous Levels of Cell Phone Use Among Teens. D. Teen’s Cell Phone Use Linked to Memory Problems. ____16____These high school study tips will get you in the right direction to get prepared for your final exams, or just for your average, everyday quiz. But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform, he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair. He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people’s shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing perfectly white socks and equally perfect black leather (皮) shoes, which were shining in the mid-day sun. It was a boy of his age. He treasured his shoes so much, obviously, because every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and saying, “Hurry up! The train is coming!” Aamir’s eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the beautiful shoes, as if enchanted Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, jaw-dropping look on his friends’ faces, he couldn’t help cracking a big smile. The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢), one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away. The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir’s eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen’s crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop. He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough. That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To his surprise, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 孝感高中2023级高二年级 英 语 试 题 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. My own voice reflected my family’s past and present-part northern Mississippi, part Tennessee, all southern. There was no sound I loved more than my grandmother’s accent: thick, sweet, warm. While growing up I began to realize outside of our region, southerners were often dismissed as uncultured and ignorant. 4. What made the author want to leave her hometown? A Stay true to your roots. B. Never do things by halves. C. Hold on to your dreams. D. Never judge a person by his accent. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第二段的“While growing up, I began to realize outside of our region, southerners were often dismissed as uncultured and ignorant. I was ready to leave behind my tiny town in West Tennessee, starting a new life and jumping at big chances in some far-off cities.(在成长过程中,我开始意识到,在我们的地区之外,南方人经常被认为是没有文化和无知的。我准备离开我在西田纳西州的小镇,开始新的生活,并在一些遥远的城市抓住大好机会)”可知,作者决定离开南部的家乡是因为其他人认为南方人没文化、无知,即外部对南方人的偏见。故选C。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段的“Early in our friendship, her mother asked where I was from, assuming it was somewhere up north. Then I felt my efforts paid off and even wanted to ignore the mistake.(在我们的友谊之初,她妈妈问我来自哪里,以为是北方的某个地方。然后我觉得我的努力得到了回报,甚至想忽略这个错误)”推知,当被Emily的妈妈误会来自北方时,作者是非常开心的。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段的“I feared it would disqualify me from being a noted magazine writer. I would have to talk less “country”. So I killed a piece of myself. (我担心这会使我失去成为著名杂志作家的资格。我就得少说些“乡村”了。所以我抹杀了自己身份的一部分)”,第三段的“She was determined to work for the student newspaper, which was where I spent most of my waking hours(她决心为校报工作,而我醒着的大部分时间都在那里度过的)”以及倒数第二段的“I advised her to be more like me and hide her signature Manchester accent. I stressed that throughout our college years, often by making fun of her vowel (元音) sounds. I told myself I was helping her achieve her dream of working as a reporter. (我建议她更像我,隐藏她标志性的曼彻斯特口音。在我们的大学生活中,我经常通过取笑她的元音来强调这一点。我告诉自己,我是在帮她实现当记者的梦想)”可知,作者通过改变自己的口音获得了在校报工作的机会。由此推知,作者努力改变Emily的口音是为了证明自己是对的,即改变南方口音就有可能获得好工作。故选A。 通读全文,并结合第二段的“I’m ashamed of it, but I’m more ashamed that I tried to kill that part of someone else-change Emily’s accent.(我很惭愧,但我更惭愧的是我试图抹杀别人的那部分——改变艾米丽的口音)”和最后一段“Grandma Carolyn used to tell me, “Girl, don’t forget where you come from.” Now I truly understand that. Many things have faded from memory, but this sticks in my mind with uncomfortable clarity. (卡罗琳奶奶过去常对我说:“女孩,别忘了你来自哪里。”现在我真的明白了。许多事情已经从记忆中消失了,但这件事却以令人不安的清晰印象留在了我的脑海中)”可知,文章想要传达的信息是:坚守本根。故选A。 C Have you ever wondered about the universal layout (布局) of supermarkets? D 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第二段“Meanwhile, essential items such as milk and eggs are placed at the back of the store to ensure customers walk through other aisles with many unhealthy options like snacks and sodas, potentially increasing the likelihood of impulse purchases.(与此同时,牛奶和鸡蛋等必需品被放在商店的后面,以确保顾客走过其他走道,那里有许多不健康的选择,如零食和苏打水,这可能会增加冲动购买的可能性。)” 根据划线词上文“They are very much aware that these strategies become less effective after you visit the store a few times and get a better sense of where everything is, so they’ll regularly move the products to different aisles to confuse you. (他们非常清楚,在你逛了几次店,对所有东西的位置有了更好的了解之后,这些策略就会变得不那么有效,所以他们会定期把产品挪到不同的通道,让你感到困惑。)”以及后文“is not limited to a specific store but is employed across various retail chains.” 根据最后一段“That’s why I always keep a shopping list on me (这就是为什么我总是随身带着购物清单)”可知,带购物清单是避免冲动购物的明智之举。 根据第一段“Have you ever wondered about the universal layout (布局) of supermarkets? Smart designers are behind it, subtly tempting you to walk through each aisle and fill your cart without even realizing it. (你有没有想过超市普遍布局?聪明的设计师在背后巧妙地引诱你走过每一个通道,在你没有意识到的情况下装满你的购物。车)”结合文章主要说明了超市布局背后促进非必要消费的特殊原因以及建议。可知,文章选自一本商业杂志。故选A。 D Teenagers who talk on the cell phone a lot, and hold their phones up to their right ears, score worse on one type of memory test. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw. However, he abruptly fell off because of the broken flip-flop. Without a second thought, he tried again, the shoe just flew past the window frame and fell on the platform like a dead leaf. Seeing this, Aamir stamped his feet, wearing a frustrated look. “Are shoes really made for walking?” Aamir thought with depression. He drooped his head, not knowing what to do next. To his surprise, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. Miraculously, it landed on the platform several steps away from him. Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance. What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away. Twenty years later, when he was launching his new footwear product at a press conference, wearing a pair of shining leather shoes, Aamir started his presentation with a simple sentence: “Shoes are made for walking.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①固定:fix on/focus on ②掉下来:fall off/drop off ③下垂:droop/lower ④消失:vanish/disappear/gone 情感类 ①有力的:powerful/strong/hefty ②沮丧的:frustrated/dispirited/depressed/disheartened/disappointed ③奇迹般地:miraculously/amazingly/surprisingly 【点睛】【高分句型1】With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw.(使用了with复合结构伴状语) 【高分句型2】Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance.(使用了before引导时间状语从句和现在分词作状语) 【高分句型3】What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away.(使用了what引导主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
