High school, for most teenagers, is a space where new adventures and challenges begin. I clearly remember my first day of high school. As I entered the school gate, I was greeted by a crowd of students. The hallways were filled with talking and laughter. It was a lot to handle, and I felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. I held my schedule tightly, trying to find the right classroom. My heart raced as I was scared of getting lost.
My first class was English, and as I walked in, I spotted familiar faces from my previous school. I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat, surrounded by friendly smiles. My English teacher, Mrs Johnson, introduced herself and made everyone feel comfortable. She explained what we would be studying during the semester and encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. The next class was mathematics, which happened to be my weakest subject. I felt a tight feeling in my stomach as I entered the classroom, but my maths teacher, Mr Smith, turned out to be very patient. He promised us that we would learn and improve together. His words of support made me feel more relaxed, and I began to believe that I could overcome my maths struggles.
During lunchtime, I sat with a group of students who quickly became my friends. We shared stories, and talked about our expectations for high school. It was during this time that I realised that high school wasn’t just about academic subjects; it was also about building friendships and making lasting memories.
The rest of the day flew by with a variety of classes, faces, and experiences. My first day of high school was filled with moments of anxiety, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.

25.Which words can best describe the English teacher?

27.What did the author realise during lunchtime?
A.High school only focused on studying.
B.High school was an extremely challenging place.
C.High school was full of old friends and classmates.
D.High school was also about wonderful social experiences.

As one of the fashions in education in recent memory, you’ve certainly heard of the flipped classroom (翻转课堂). It is a type of blended learning where students are introduced to knowledge at home and practice using it at school. This is the opposite of the more common practice of introducing new content at school, then giving homework and projects to be completed by the students independently at home.
In this blended learning model, face-to-face communication is mixed with independent study — usually through videos and e-dictionaries. In a common flipped classroom setting, students might watch pre-recorded videos at home, then come to school to do the homework armed with questions and at least some background knowledge.
The idea behind the flipped classroom is to rethink when students can use the resources they need most. If the problem is that students need help with the work rather than being introduced to the new thinking behind the work, then the solution the flipped classroom takes is to reverse the traditional teaching method.
In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures (线上讲座), review online course materials, read physical or digital texts, and take part in an online discussion at home. What happens at school includes skill practice, in-person or face-to-face discussions with classmates, presentations, experiments, peer (同行) review, and so on. It allows students to stop, look up words online, and rewatch, creating a ready-made library for student review.
Of course, it’s not that simple. There are some disadvantages of a flipped classroom. Just like in a regular classroom, success depends greatly on the quality of teachers, the clarity of conversations, and the quality of given courses, tests, and instructions. Further, fairness is still a major issue, and it doesn’t fix the outdated method most educational systems take to courses.
28.What does the flipped classroom feature?
A.More dependence on hobbies. B.Technology-assisted learning.
C.Parent-child cooperation. D.Less focus on textbooks.
29.What does the underlined word “reverse” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Research. B.Examine. C.Change. D.Shape.
30.What is the advantage of the flipped classroom?
A.It gives personalized experiences. B.It develops creativity in students.
C.It builds trust among peers. D.It simplifies learning steps.
31.Why is the flipped classroom criticized?
A.It fails to change teachers’ thinking. B.It hardly improves students’ grades.
C.It causes unclear dialogues. D.It only touches the surface.

A notable study by Princeton University and UCLA researchers explores how note-taking methods affect academic performance, finding that handwritten note-takers consistently outperform laptop users in exams.
The study included 150 undergraduates split into two groups, both attending 45-minute lectures on introductory psychology and astrophysics — subjects blending facts and reasoning. One group used notebooks, the other laptops with no note-taking restrictions.
Post-lecture results were clear: handwritten note-takers scored 18% higher on comprehension questions and 12% higher on recall tasks. A week later, for long-term retention, the gap grew to 23%, showing deeper processing.
Researchers point to differing cognitive processes. Handwriting’s slower pace demands active synthesis: filtering key ideas, rephrasing concepts, and linking new info to existing knowledge — strengthening memory pathways. Laptop users often transcribe verbatim (一字不差地), engaging in “shallow processing” without parsing meaning.
Notably, note length didn’t correlate with performance; top-scoring handwritten notes were concise, focusing on core principles. This highlights the quality of engagement over quantity.
These findings matter for education. With digital tools prevalent, educators might encourage handwritten notes for complex subjects, using laptops for rapid data entry. Ultimately, the study emphasizes that learning flourishes in active, mindful engagement, not passive consumption.
32.What is the main finding of the study by Princeton University and UCLA researchers?
A.Laptop note-takers write longer notes than handwritten note-takers.
B.Handwritten note-takers perform better in exams than laptop users.
C.Note-taking methods have no significant effect on academic performance.
D.Students prefer digital note-taking tools over traditional notebooks.
33.What subjects were included in the lectures for the study?
A.Introductory psychology and astrophysics
B.Mathematics and computer science
C.History and literature
D.Biology and chemistry
34.Why do handwritten note-takers achieve better results according to the researchers?
A.They write more detailed notes.
B.They can review notes more easily.
C.They engage in active synthesis of information.
D.They spend more time on note-taking during lectures.
35.What does the study emphasize about effective learning?
A.Using digital tools for all types of note-taking
B.Writing as many notes as possible during lectures
C.Active and mindful engagement rather than passive consumption
D.Focusing on recall tasks rather than comprehension questions

As students, recognizing when we need help and seeking out the support are important parts of growing up. 36 . Here are some tips to make it easier for you to connect with them.
Be considerate
Teachers truly want to help you, and it’s part of their job. So don’t worry that you’re being a troublemaker and don’t hesitate to reach out for help. However, teachers often have packed schedules. So it’s important to be mindful of their time. Start by greeting them, then politely ask if they have a moment to chat. 37 .
Ask specific questions
To get the most out of your time with a teacher, come prepared with focused questions. 38 . Saying something like “I don’t understand math at all” leaves the teacher guessing where to start. Instead, bring a specific problem you missed on a test and ask them to explain your mistake step by step. In short, think through your concerns beforehand and prepare detailed questions for your teacher.
Be proactive
39 . Instead of waiting until you see a bad grade on your report card or final exam, reach out as soon as you notice you’re struggling. Being proactive and seeking help early — before you fall too far behind — will make it much easier to catch up. 40
Let’s say you know you’re not going to be able to finish a paper or other assignments by the due date. You can approach the teacher in advance in a positive and respectful manner, explain your situation and ask for an extension (延期). Often, teachers will grant your request, and they’ll be more likely to be forgiving if you are honest and upfront.
A.Be honest
B.Be flexible
C.Timing matters when asking for help
D.Approaching teachers to ask for help may seem scary, though
E.Therefore, it’s fine to approach the teacher to ask for an explanation
F.If not, schedule a better time and note it down to remind you of the meeting
G.It’s hard to help someone who is unsure what exactly they’re struggling with

My family just moved here from St. Louis. It was my first day at a new high school and the very day of soccer tryouts (选拔赛). Soccer is my life, played soccer, went to soccer games, and watched soccer on television with Mom and Dad. They even got me a magazine about soccer.
We left very early in the morning, planning to be at our new home before classes began. If everything had gone perfectly, there would have been time for me to find my new classes, meet people, and even warm up before the tryouts.
However, while we were driving to my new home, our car suddenly stopped working on the highway under the hot sun. We waited anxiously for two hours for a rescue, only to spend another two hours arranging for a rental car. The whole time, my heart was pounding with worry, afraid that I would miss the tryouts.
Finally, we arrived at the new school. The moment I got out of the cat, I rushed towards the headmaster’s office to report, out of breath. “Oh, Tina I think you’re too late for the tryouts. Coach Turner said they’d end at 3 pm,” said Headmaster Morgan. She glanced up at the clock and shook her head, “They’re almost finished.” Feeling defeated, I bit my lower lip and held back tears. All of a sudden, I saw the latest soccer magazine in my backpack. At that moment, my favorite words from the magazine rang in my head good player never gives up, even when the game seems lost.”

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节
Dear Mr. AOkiu,
Knowing that there’s a schedule for us, which would break my steps that I’ve arranged well before, I’m writing to share my understandings and thoughts.
I appreciate the school’s intention to help us stay disciplined during the summer. However, I had already created a personalized study plan based on my strengths and weaknesses. The mandatory schedule disrupts my progress, especially in subjects where I need more time. For example, I allocated extra hours to math, but the uniform schedule doesn’t allow such flexibility.
I kindly request permission to follow my own plan while ensuring I meet all academic goals. This way, I can learn more efficiently. Thank you for considering my perspective.

第二节 (满分25分)
“I m so sorry, but our car broke down”, I explained to the headmaster. I know I’m late, but I’ve been playing soccer my whole life. “This means everything to me. Please give me a chance to show what I can do.” I stared at the headmaster and begged, holding onto a tiny hope. Headmaster Morgan looked hesitant at first, her brows furrowed. But seeing the determination in my eyes, she let out a sigh and picked up the phone. “Coach Turner? There’s a determined girl here.” My heart raced as Headmaster Morgan finally pointed outside. “Go to the field quickly!”
“Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. Without hesitation, I sprang into action. The wind rushed past my ears, and I could only hear the intense beating of my own heart. Sweat dripped down my neck as three defenders charged. I passed right, moved left, and then shot with my left foot. Finally, the ball flew over the goalkeeper’s hands, and went into the net. The coach’s eyes widened in surprise. I held my breath, waiting for his decision. “Welcome to the team,” Coach Turner announced, and I couldn’t help breaking into a huge smile. I knew it was my love for soccer that kept me from giving up.

A.Because of excitement and curiosity.
B.Because of the school’s welcoming atmosphere.
C.Because of fear of the unfamiliar environment.
D.Because of good preparations for the new school.
25.Which words can best describe the English teacher?
A.Generous and powerful. B.Responsible and patient.
C.Inspiring and friendly. D.Outgoing and warm-hearted.
26.How did the author feel when entering the maths class?
A.Excited. B.Anxious. C.Relaxed. D.Confident.

阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

【原文】W: Good evening, everyone. This is the final team meeting before we travel to Costa Rica. I’d like to tell you about the three different projects that we’re running there. Before I go on though, let me tell you that we will be leaving on the 6th of April and we will be coming back on the 20th instead of the 10th of July. I hope that won’t be a problem for anyone. Now, the first project includes cleaning up the beaches in the east of the country. This is home to some rare sea birds and we’re going there to do our best to protect them. The second project is in the capital, San José. There we will be working in the national zoo, planting trees to improve the animal’s natural homes. The final project is in one of the national parks. This is in an area of rainforest which was destroyed, and now the Costa Rican government wants to bring new life to it. We will be planting trees and recording the growth habits of the plants that we find there. Okay, has anyone got any questions on any of that?

【答案】28.B 29.C 30.A 31.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了翻转课堂这一混合式学习模式的概念、实施方式、核心理念及存在的优缺点。
28.细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“In this blended learning model, face-to-face communication is mixed with independent study — usually through videos and e-dictionaries. (在这种混合学习模式中,面对面交流与独立学习相结合,通常通过视频和电子词典来实现独立学习)”可知,翻转课堂的核心特征是依赖技术工具,如视频、电子词典等辅助学习。故选B项。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“the solution the flipped classroom takes is to reverse the traditional teaching method. (翻转课堂的解决方案是reverse传统教学方法)”,结合第一段中的“This is the opposite of the more common practice of introducing new content at school, then giving homework and projects to completed by the students independently at home. (这与更常见的做法相反——通常是在学校教授新内容,然后让学生在家独立完成家庭作业和项目)”以及第四段的介绍可知,reverse在此语境中指彻底改变传统教学模式,即:翻转课堂的解决方案是颠覆传统教学方法,故选C项。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“It allows students to stop, look up words online, and rewatch, creating a ready-made library for student review. (它允许学生暂停、在线查词、重复观看,形成可随时复习的资源库)”可知,翻转课堂的核心优势是支持学生按个人节奏自主学习。故选A项。
31.推理判断题。根据文章末段中的“Further, fairness is still a major issue, and it doesn’t fix the outdated method most educational systems take to courses. (此外,公平性仍是主要问题,它并未解决教育系统普遍采用的过时教学方法)”可推知,批评的核心是翻转课堂未能触及教育体系的根本缺陷,仅停留在表面改良。故选D项。

【答案】32.B 33.A 34.C 35.C

阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
G.It’s hard to help someone who is unsure what exactly they’re struggling with
【答案】36.D 37.F 38.G 39.C 40.A

【参考范文】
Dear Mr. AOkiu,
Knowing that there’s a schedule for us, which would break my steps that I’ve arranged well before, I’m writing to share my understandings and thoughts.
