Unit 4 Honesty-D A little promise (Writing & Discovery) This part of the unit focuses on the theme of "Honesty" through the topic of "A little promise". Students will first read a short passage about a boy who made a promise to his mother and then fulfilled it. Based on this reading, they will engage in writing activities. The writing task requires students to write about a promise they made and how they kept it or failed to keep it. This not only helps students practice their writing skills such as organizing ideas, using appropriate sentence structures and vocabulary related to making and keeping promises, but also deepens their understanding of the value of honesty. In the Discovery part, students will explore different expressions and collocations related to the theme, which enriches their language knowledge. 教学目标 Students will be able to master the key vocabulary and phrases related to making and keeping promises, such as "make a promise", "keep one's promise", "break one's promise", "be honest with", etc. They can understand and use sentence patterns for expressing promises, like "I promise to...", "I will make sure that...". Learn some useful adverbs and adjectives to describe the process of keeping or breaking a promise, such as "faithfully", "honestly", "regretfully". 教学重难点 A. Key Points The acquisition and application of vocabulary and sentence patterns related to promises. Guiding students to write a well - structured composition about their promise - keeping or promise - breaking experiences, including an introduction, main body, and conclusion. B. Difficult Points Helping students use vivid and accurate language to describe the details of their promise - related experiences, especially when it comes to expressing emotions and thoughts. Teaching students how to analyze and summarize language knowledge in the Discovery part and apply it to their writing. A. Vocabulary Promise (n. & v.) - an agreement or a firm decision to do something. E.g. I made a promise to my parents. / I promise to study hard. Keep (v.) - to do what one has said one will do. E.g. We should keep our promises. Break (v.) - to fail to do what one has promised. E.g. He broke his promise and didn't come to the party. Honesty (n.) - the quality of being honest. E.g. Honesty is the best policy. Faithfully (adv.) - in a loyal and reliable way. E.g. She carried out her duties faithfully. Regretfully (adv.) - in a way that shows regret. E.g. He said goodbye regretfully. B. Sentence Patterns I promise to + verb - base form. E.g. I promise to clean my room this weekend. Make a promise that + clause. E.g. She made a promise that she would be on time. Keep one's promise to + verb - base form. E.g. He kept his promise to help me with my homework. Break one's promise by + verb - ing. E.g. Finally - used to introduce the last point or action. However - used to introduce a statement that contrasts with or seems to contradict something that has been said previously. 教学过程 A. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures on the PPT, such as a person shaking hands, a written contract, etc. Then ask students: "What do these pictures remind you of?" Encourage students to think and share their ideas. Lead them to the topic of "promises". B. Pre - writing (10 minutes) Reading Comprehension Present a short passage about a boy who promised his mother to plant a tree in the garden and finally did it. Let students read the passage silently for the first time and answer the general question: "What is the passage mainly about?" For the second reading, ask students to read carefully and find out the following information: What was the promise the boy made? How did he keep his promise? (Steps) What did he feel after keeping the promise? Check the answers with the whole class and explain some difficult sentences in the passage. Brainstorming Divide students into groups of four. Ask them to discuss in groups: "Have you ever made a promise? What was it? Did you keep it or break it?" Each group selects a representative to share their group's discussion results with the whole class. C. While - writing (20 minutes) Structure Guidance On the blackboard or PPT, show the structure of a composition about a promise: Introduction: Briefly introduce the promise, such as when and to whom you made the promise. Main body: Describe how you kept or broke the promise in detail. You can use "first of all", "then", "finally" to organize your steps. Conclusion: Talk about what you learned from this experience. Draft Writing Let students start writing their own compositions according to the structure and their brainstorming ideas. Walk around the classroom, offer help and guidance when necessary, such as spelling mistakes, grammar errors, and organization problems. D. Post - writing (10 minutes) Peer - review Pair up the students. Ask them to exchange their compositions and check each other's work according to the following criteria: Whether the composition has a clear structure. Whether the vocabulary and sentence patterns related to promises are used correctly. Whether there are any spelling or grammar mistakes. Whether the description in the main body is detailed enough. Each student writes down their suggestions for their partner's composition. Revision Students get back their own compositions and revise them based on their partner's suggestions. Sharing Select some students to read their revised compositions in front of the class. After each reading, let other students give positive comments and suggestions. E. Discovery (5 minutes) Present some sentences on the PPT, such as: "He made a solemn promise." "She always keeps her word." "I regret having broken my promise." Let students work in pairs to find out new expressions and collocations related to "promise" in these sentences. Invite several pairs to share their findings with the class. Then summarize and explain these new language points. 教学反思 After this class, students have a better understanding of the theme of "Honesty" through writing about their promise - related experiences. In terms of teaching effectiveness, most students can master the key vocabulary and sentence patterns, and are able to write a composition with a basic structure. However, there are still some areas for improvement. Some students have difficulty in using vivid and accurate language to describe the details of their experiences. In future teaching, more exercises on descriptive writing and more exposure to excellent sample writings can be provided. During the group discussion and peer - review, some students are not very active. Teachers need to encourage these students more and create a more relaxed and inclusive classroom atmosphere to promote their participation. Also, in the Discovery part, although students can find some new language knowledge, the ability to apply it flexibly in writing still needs to be further cultivated. Overall, continuous improvement and adjustment of teaching methods are necessary to better meet the learning needs of students. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
