Unit 3 A helping hand-B A helping hand (Speaking) This speaking lesson in Unit 3 “A helping hand” of Shanghai Education Press (Five - Four System, 2024) English for Grade Seven focuses on the theme of helping others. Students will be exposed to various real - life situations where people offer help. Through listening to dialogues, role - playing, and group discussions, they are expected to learn useful expressions and sentence patterns related to asking for and offering help. The lesson aims to not only improve students' oral English skills but also cultivate their awareness of helping others and positive values. 教学目标 1. Knowledge Objectives Students can master key words and phrases related to helping, such as “give/offer a helping hand”, “carry”, “fetch”, “help out”, “in need” etc. Students are able to understand and use common sentence patterns for asking for help like “Could you please...?”, “Would you mind...?” and for offering help like “Sure, I'd love to.”, “No problem.”, “Let me help you with that.” 2. Ability Objectives Students can use the learned words, phrases and sentence patterns to communicate fluently in situations of asking for and offering help. Develop students' listening, speaking, and communicative abilities through different activities, such as listening to dialogues, role - playing and group discussions. Improve students' ability to think independently and work in cooperation. 3. Emotional Objectives Cultivate students' awareness of helping others and willingness to offer help in daily life. Encourage students to be positive and helpful members of society. 教学重难点 1. Key Points Mastery of key words, phrases and sentence patterns related to asking for and offering help. Enable students to use these language points to conduct conversations in real - life - like situations. 2. Difficult Points Help students use the appropriate language expressions according to different situations and tones. Guide students to actively participate in speaking activities and overcome shyness and fear of making mistakes. Key Words and Phrases give/offer a helping hand (伸出援助之手) carry (搬运) fetch (去取来) help out (帮助摆脱困境) in need (在困难中,需要帮助的) lift (举起) take care of (照顾) Sentence Patterns Asking for help: Could you please + verb 原形...? (你能…… 吗?) e.g. Could you please help me carry this box? Would you mind + verb - ing...? (你介意…… 吗?) e.g. Would you mind fetching me a glass of water? Can/Could you...? (你能…… 吗?) e.g. Can you help me with my homework? Offering help: Sure, I'd love to. (当然,我很乐意。) No problem. (没问题。) Let me help you with that. (让我来帮你做那件事。) I'll give you a hand. (我来帮你一把。) How about I...? (我…… 怎么样?) e.g. How about I carry the books for you? 教学过程 1. Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Show some pictures on the screen. The pictures can include people helping the elderly cross the street, volunteers giving food to the homeless, and classmates helping each other with schoolwork. Ask students some simple questions related to the pictures, such as “What are they doing in the picture?”, “Do you think it is good to help others? Why or why not?” Encourage several students to share their opinions. This activity can quickly arouse students' interest and lead in the theme of the lesson. 2. Presentation (10 minutes) Play a short dialogue recording. The dialogue is about a student asking his classmate to help him carry some heavy books. Play the recording for the first time, and let students just listen and get a general idea of the content. Play the recording for the second time. This time, ask students to listen carefully and write down the key words and sentences they hear. After that, invite some students to share the key words and sentences they noted. Write them on the blackboard. Explain the new words, phrases and sentence patterns one by one. For example, when teaching “give/offer a helping hand”, show some more examples like “We should always offer a helping hand to those in need.” And when teaching “Could you please...?”, make more sentences such as “Could you please open the window?” Drill the new language points with students. Read the words, phrases and sentences aloud, and ask students to repeat after you several times. 3. Practice (15 minutes) Divide students into pairs. Provide each pair with a set of task cards. On each card, there is a situation of asking for help. For example: You are moving to a new house. There is a heavy box and you can't carry it. Ask your partner for help. You are in the classroom. You left your textbook at home. Ask your deskmate to share his/her textbook with you. Let students make up dialogues according to the situations on the cards. They should use the learned words, phrases and sentence patterns. Walk around the classroom to offer guidance and help when necessary. After a few minutes, invite several pairs of students to come to the front of the classroom and act out their dialogues. Encourage other students to listen carefully and give comments. Then, change the task. This time, give each pair a new set of cards with situations of offering help. For example: You see an old man struggling to carry a bag of groceries. Offer to help him. Your classmate is having trouble with a math problem. Offer to help him/her. Let students make up new dialogues and practice. Again, ask some pairs to perform in front of the class. 4. Group Activity (10 minutes) Divide students into groups of four or five. Present a more complex situation to each group: “There is a community service activity this weekend. Your group is responsible for helping the elderly in a nursing home. Discuss what you can do to help them and make a plan.” Each group starts to discuss. They need to use the language they have learned to express their ideas. For example, they may say “Could we help them clean their rooms?”, “Sure, and I think we can also read newspapers to them. Let me write it down.” Walk around each group to monitor their discussions. Encourage students who are a little shy to participate actively. After the discussion, each group selects a representative to report their plan to the whole class. Other groups can ask questions or give suggestions. 5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summarize the key points of this lesson with students. Review the important words, phrases and sentence patterns about asking for and offering help. Assign homework: Ask students to write down at least three real - life situations where they asked for help or offered help this week, and write short dialogues for each situation. Encourage students to actually offer help to others in their daily life and share their experiences in the next class. 教学反思 After teaching this speaking lesson, I think there are both positive aspects and areas for improvement. On the positive side, the warming - up activity was quite successful in attracting students' attention and leading in the theme smoothly. Most students were interested in the pictures and actively shared their thoughts. The presentation part was clear. Through listening to the dialogue and detailed explanation, students seemed to have a good understanding of the new language points. In the practice and group activity, students were actively involved. They tried their best to use the learned expressions to communicate, which effectively improved their speaking ability. The group activity also cultivated their cooperation spirit. However, there are also some problems. During the pair work and group work, a few students were still a little shy and did not participate fully. Maybe I should have given more encouragement and specific guidance to them. Also, when students were reporting their group plans, some students had difficulty expressing their ideas clearly in English. This indicates that more language input and practice are needed. In future teaching, I will pay more attention to individual students, design more targeted activities for different levels of students, and increase the amount of English communication in class to help students improve their oral English skills more effectively. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
