Stretching from coast to coast, the Trans-Canada Highway stitches together the vast landscapes of Canada. But it’s the British Columbia section that truly shines brightest. Take your time to drive this route: six days is ideal.
Day 1: Vancouver
The adventure begins in Vancouver, a playground for outdoor activities, with mountains, beaches and forests just moments from its urban core. Cycle the 6. 6-mile seawall of Stanley Park-on one side you’ll have ancient rainforest; on the other, tall modern buildings reflect in the waters of the Burrard Inlet and English Bay.
Day 2: Fraser Valley
For the countryside appeal of the Fraser Valley, schedule a stop at Singletree Winery in Abbotsford, a family-owned property specializing in cool-climate wines. For lunch, try Restaurant 62 nearby, which features local food. Drive to Hope, and on arrival, film fans might recognize the picturesque small town as the backdrop in the movie Rambo: First Blood.
Day 3: Lytton
In the town of Lytton, you can tackle the water flowing very fast with Kumsheen Rafting Resort. Don’t miss the Lytton Chinese History Museum, recently rebuilt after a 2021 wildfire, which offers a deep dive into the vital contributions of early Chinese settlers to BC.
Day 4: Kamloops
Steep canyons (陡峭的峡谷) flatten out on the two-hour drive to Kamloops, known for its independent galleries. Don’t miss the Kamloopa Powwow, a summer celebration of native culture, music and dance.
Day 5: Revelstoke
Here, a local businessman spent decades painstakingly relocating abandoned buildings from the frontier era to create his own ghost town museum. Don’t miss the Nels Nelsen ski jump statue in Mount Revelstoke National Park, which shows respect to Canada’s winter sports athletes.
Day 6: Golden
Saving the best for last, the highway cuts a path through the greatness of Glacier National Park. Golden, a tiny town with big attractions, delivers an amazing finish. Feel your heart race by stepping onto the Golden Skybridge, Canada’s highest suspension bridge. Drive to the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, where springtime fields of flowering lupins and forget-me-nots explode in various colors.
1. What are tourists advised to do in Fraser Valley?
A. Avoid drinking cool-climate wines. B. Try role-playing in a famous movie.
C. Enjoy local food at Restaurant 62. D. Purchase a family-owned property.
2. On which day can tourists learn about the history of Chinese people?

After moving house for the 11th time, Barbara Iweins decided to take stock of her life-and everything in it.
Going from room to room, Iweins spent almost five years documenting every single object she owns, from loose Lego bricks and old key chains to remote controls and kitchen utensils. The resulting 12,795 images offer a true portrait of the Belgian photographer. All of the images were posted on social media and many users liked those images a lot.
While photographing her possessions, Iweins categorized them by color, material and the frequency with which they were used (from once a day to never). Her project provided plenty of insights, both surprising and amusing. Blue is the dominant color in her house accounting for 16% of all items, while 12% of her clothes are black. Of the items in her bathroom, 43% are made from plastic. Some 90% of the cables in her house are never used, and 19% of her books remain unread.
And while often ordinary, individual objects contain the stories of her life: The old novel she took from her father’s library when she was 16, the hospital bracelet she wore when giving birth. Over the years, Iweins spent an average of 15 hours a week on the project.
“I started, because I really believed that I was tired of moving house and moving my stuff around,” she said. “And then I realized that it wasn’t about that at all. It was more like an act of self-preservation — that doing something every day was really about organizing my life in my head. It was a positive process. Bringing order to the chaos became a kind of ‘therapy’ that helped me overcome the difficulties. Now that the project is done, and I have identified which objects are valuable, I can start living and move on,” she added.
4. What made Iweins document her belongings at first?
A. Much free time. B. Her unsettled life.
C. Her job as a photographer. D. Advice from social media.
5. Which word best describes Iweins according to paragraph 2?
A. Patient. B. Creative. C. Generous. D. Friendly.
6. How is paragraph 3 mainly developed?
A. By listing figures. B. By analyzing causes.
C. By showing differences. D. By following time order.
7. What does the project bring to Iweins?
A A simple life. B. A sense of pride.
C. Confidence in life. D. Respect from others.

By regaining a takeover of non-native species, native species have a chance of recovery in their natural habitats, according to a new study led by scientists from the University of California, Davis. The study, published in the journal Biological Conservation, explored how removing invasive bullfrogs (入侵牛蛙) could affect the native western pond turtles (海龟), which have experienced a major decline in their range.
Some threats to the western pond turtles come from habitat destruction, development, pollution and disease, but invasive species are also a major threat, according to the Center for Biological Diversity. Reed canary grass and other invasive plants make it more difficult for the western pond turtles to find their nesting sites. Non-native animals such as bullfrogs, red-eared slider turtles and largemouth bass also pose threats by increasing competition for food, while bullfrogs feed on the western pond turtles, furthering their decline.
“One reason the invasive bullfrogs are among the top worst globally introduced pests is because they eat everything — anything that fits into their mouth,” said Brian Todd, senior author of the study.
From 2016 to 2022, researchers studied four sites in Yosemite National Park, two that maintained the bullfrog population and two that had the bullfrogs removed. In the ponds without bullfrogs, the researchers found that western pond turtles were between two and 100 times more plentiful compared to the ponds where bullfrogs remained. The team also found that only larger, older pond turtles survived in the ponds with bullfrogs.
The removal of the bullfrogs made the presence of other native animals, in addition to the western pond turtles, noticeable to researchers. “As bullfrog presence declined, we started to hear other native frogs call and see native salamanders walking around,” said Sidney Woodruff, lead author of the study.
Although the authors noted that bullfrog removal may not work at all ponds due to cost and time restrictions, they explained that the study showed the possibility of using this approach in the most conservation areas. “While the challenges associated with invasive species removal are significant, our study shows the potential benefit of stopping species declines and restoring freshwater ecosystems,” they concluded.
8. What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A. Threats to pond turtles remain unknown.
B. Pond turtles largely rely on plants to survive.
C. Non-native animals are less capable of adapting.
D. Invasive species negatively affect pond turtles.
9. What did the researchers do for their study?
A. They relocated bullfrogs to four sites.
B. They tracked the number of pond turtles.
C. They took measures to protect old turtles.
D. They introduced other species to the park.
10. What is the two authors’ opinion on bullfrog removal?
A. It definitely holds certain value. B. It proves workable in any place.
C It is barely linked with challenges. D. It brings more other invasive species.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Threats to Native Species Vary B. Study the Impact of Invasive Species
C. Welcome Native Pond Turtles Back D. Pond Turtles Experience a Big Decline

Motivational quotes. Videos of Steve Jobs saying absolutely anything. A short part of a film is showing that a baby elephant is being rescued from a river. You do not have to scroll (滚屏) for long on LinkedIn, a networking site supposedly for people at work, to find “inspirational” content. But for leaders interested in how to motivate the people around them, there is a better option-a book titled Inspire, by Adam Galinsky.
At some level, advice on how to inspire staff is silly. It’s usually blindingly obvious — be good at your job, be passionate about the organization, make people and leadership teams feel valued. But believe me, you can find more insights in Galinsky’s book. For example, lots of firms use a succession of abstract words to convey their goal, such as “change”, “innovate” and “connect”. The result is less a mission than a mood. But Inspire really helps you out.
Mr Galinsky cites an experiment that showed the effect of more concrete language, in which teams were asked to design toys and given a vision statement to guide their behavior. The result showed that teams who were handed a statement with more visual language — to create toys that make wide-eyed kids laugh and proud parents smile — produced more engaging toys than teams who were given something more generic (通用的).
The most striking idea in Mr. Galinsky’s book is that instead of bosses motivating people from above, individuals can motivate themselves. And a study conducted recently supports this claim. In the study, nearly 3,000 employees at a consumer-goods firm were randomly assigned to take part in a self-reflection exercise that helped them to think about how their current jobs matched their own sense of purpose.
The researcher found that those whose jobs did not inspire them tended to leave, and that those who found that their purpose and their job were in line with the firm’s goals tended to put in more effort. Since the departure of uninspired employees and the increased effort of motivated ones collectively contributed to a more efficient workforce, this experiment is conducive to the firm’s overall performance.
Managers play a huge role in motivating their people, but inspiration can be bottom-up as well as top-down. Don’t just tell your team what Steve Jobs said. Ask why their jobs matter to them.
12. What does the author think of Galinsky’s book Inspire?
A. Challenging. B. Confusing. C. Humorous. D. Practical.
13. What can be inferred from the toy design experiment?
A. Emotional appeal outweighs functional design.
B. Toy design should center on children’s demands.
C. Specific instructions produce more creative outcomes.
D. Parental approval determines toy products’ success.
14. What does the underlined word “conducive” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Regular. B. Beneficial. C. Troublesome. D. Superior.
15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To provide helpful insights into how to inspire employees.
B. To highlight the significance of inspiration in group performance.
C. To show the problems of existing employee motivation measures.
D To urge management to place greater emphasis on staff motivation.

For many, the idea of being “average” is scary — to the point that there’s a word for fear of merely being ordinary and average — that’s koinophobia. ____16____ With that in mind, koinophobia specifically refers to fear of living an ordinary life, one that doesn’t stand out.
What causes koinophobia? Generally, people who struggle with low self-respect might fear being average if their self-worth is tied to a certain skill. It can be a way to make up for insecurities: If I can be good and impactful enough, maybe I’ll feel good about myself. ____17____ This can lead to the feeling that everyone else is achieving more than we are, which may contribute to a rise in koinophobia.
____18____ Besides the anxiety that comes with koinophobia, those who pursue greatness without rest are at increased risk for burnout. Furthermore, people with koinophobia tend to have high standards for themselves and their accomplishments. Unavoidably, they may fail to live up to these standards, which can harm their confidence.
It’s okay to be motivated by a desire to do something big, but when fear of being average can prevent you enjoying your life, it becomes a problem. So give yourself grace and allow for balance. If you have projects and goals, you can certainly work towards them.____19____
To overcome koinophobia, you can also practice self-acceptance so that you feel okay with who you are as you are now. If you find yourself feeling inadequate (不胜任的) when you see what everyone else seems to be accomplishing, take social media breaks. ____20____ Finally, choosing reasonable expectations for yourself can prevent you from over-extending yourself.
A. Set some manageable goals.
B. Koinophobia can be problematic.
C. Instead, focus on something you enjoy.
D. There is always more that you can try to accomplish.
E. We’re all probably average or below average at something.
F. But also do care for yourself and give yourself space to have fun.
G. Moreover many people on social media only post the great things they’re doing.

I came from a poor family. My parents didn’t earn much money. Every night, I saw them working late. They looked tired, but they always smiled and made our home full of love.
I was a high school freshman who loved beautiful things. There’s a school ball coming up, and I really wanted a nice dress. I often looked at the dresses which were shining in store windows. I touched the glass and wished I could have had a dress like that.
My parents started saving money for me after they saw how much I wanted a dress. They worked harder and chose cheaper things. One day, my mom gave me an old envelope with money inside. I recognized the envelope which contained a letter of admission from my high school a few months ago. My mother’s eyes were full of hope. “This is for your dress,” she said with joy. I held the envelope tightly and felt how much my parents cared about me. I promised to find a beautiful dress for the ball to make them proud of me.
I got on the bus to the shopping area. My heart was beating fast with excitement. The bus was crowded, and I stood near the back. Suddenly, I heard some noise. “You didn’t pay for your ticket,” the conductor said to a man. The man looked anxious. “I forgot my wallet. My daughter is in the hospital, and I was in a hurry,” he explained. I saw how worried he was and how his hands were shaking.
I really wanted that dress, but I couldn’t let the father get into trouble. I hesitated for a moment, took a deep breath and paid for the man’s ticket. Then, without thinking too much, I handed the envelope with the rest of the money to the man. “Your daughter needs you more than I need a dress,” I said softly. The man looked at me with tears in his eyes and said thanks over and over.

Healthy Choices, Happier School Life
One significant health challenge I observe daily is our inactive lifestyle — hours spent sitting in the classroom.
This inactive lifestyle has many negative effects. Physically it contributes to poor posture, potential weight gain, and reduced fitness. Mentally, constant sitting can drain our energy and decrease concentration during lessons.
To fight this, stretching during short breaks between classes and joining a lunchtime sports club are excellent starts. Even walking during breaks instead of always sitting in the classroom makes a difference. Paying attention to movement transforms our school well-being!

【答案】参考范文
I had to get off the bus and walked home slowly. I felt a little sad because I didn’t have money for the dress anymore. When I got home, my parents asked if I got the dream dress. I shook my head and told them what had happened. “I helped someone who needed the money more,” I said with a little worry. But my parents gave me a big hug and said they were really proud of me. I took comfort from their words and gave up thinking about the dress.
A few days later, I was doing my homework when I heard a knock on the door. To my surprise, it was the man from the bus. He looked a little nervous and said, “I found you with the address on the envelope. I just want to thank you again.” He gave me a small package. Curious, I opened it and saw a pretty dress. It was simple but very nice, “You helped me when I was in great need. I hope this dress makes you feel as beautiful as you are.” It’s my turn to express my gratitude to him then. I knew that dress was special because it told a story of kindness.
