Unit 1 Music-A Music and musicians (Viewing and listening) This unit focuses on the theme of music and musicians. Through viewing and listening activities, students will be exposed to different types of music, such as classical music, pop music, and folk music. They will also learn about famous musicians and their contributions to the world of music. The materials provided include videos, audio recordings, and pictures, which will help students develop their listening and viewing skills, as well as their understanding and appreciation of music. 教学目标 Students will be able to understand and use key vocabulary related to music, such as “instrument”, “melody”, “rhythm”, “composer”, “performer”, etc. They will learn about different music genres and be able to identify their characteristics. Students will get to know some famous musicians and their representative works. 教学重难点 1. Key Points Mastering the key vocabulary related to music. Understanding different music genres and their features. Comprehending the information about famous musicians presented in the materials. 2. Difficult Points Helping students distinguish the subtle differences between various music genres. Guiding students to express their in - depth understanding and unique feelings about music in English. 1. Vocabulary Instruments: piano, violin, guitar, drum, flute, saxophone, etc. Music - related terms: melody, rhythm, harmony, tempo, lyrics, etc. Music genres: classical music, pop music, rock music, folk music, jazz music, etc. Musicians: Beethoven, Mozart, Taylor Swift, Jay Chou, etc. 2. Structures Use simple present tense to talk about general facts about music and musicians, e.g., “Beethoven is a famous composer. He wrote many great pieces of music.” Use “There be” structure to describe the existence of something in music, e.g., “There is a beautiful melody in this song.” 教学过程 1. Lead - in (5 minutes) Greet the students and show them a short video of a music concert with various music genres mixed together, such as a part of a pop concert, a classical symphony performance, and a folk music show. After watching the video, ask the students: “What kind of music did you hear in the video? Do you like it? Why or why not?” Encourage students to share their initial impressions and experiences related to music. 2. Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes) Show pictures of different musical instruments on the PPT, such as a piano, a violin, and a drum. Teach the names of these instruments one by one, and let students repeat after the teacher. Then, present music - related terms like “melody”, “rhythm”, and “harmony”. Explain their meanings with simple examples. For example, play a short piece of music and point out the melody part (the main tune), the rhythm part (the pattern of beats), and briefly mention how different notes work together to form harmony. Next, introduce different music genres. Show pictures or short clips representing classical music (like a symphony orchestra performance), pop music (a popular singer's music video), rock music (a rock band on stage), folk music (local folk singers performing traditional songs), and jazz music (a jazz band playing in a club). Let students describe what they see and try to summarize the characteristics of each genre. 3. Viewing and Listening Comprehension (15 minutes) Play a video about a famous classical musician, for example, Mozart. The video can introduce Mozart's life, his musical achievements, and some of his representative works. Before playing the video, give students some pre - viewing questions, such as “When and where was Mozart born?”, “What are some of his famous works?”, and “Why is he so important in the history of music?”. While playing the video, ask students to take notes of the key information. After the video, ask students to answer the pre - viewing questions in pairs. Then, invite some pairs to share their answers with the whole class. Next, play an audio recording of a piece of pop music. Before playing, tell students to focus on the lyrics, melody, and rhythm. After listening, ask them to describe the feelings the music brings and what the lyrics are about. 4. Group Discussion and Presentation (10 minutes) Divide the students into groups of four or five. Assign each group a music genre, such as classical music, pop music, rock music, folk music, or jazz music. Ask each group to discuss the following questions: “What are the unique features of your assigned music genre?”, “Can you name some famous musicians in this genre and their representative works?”, and “Why do you think this music genre is popular?”. Each group has 5 minutes to discuss. Then, each group selects a representative to present their discussion results to the class. During the presentation, other groups can ask questions or make comments. 5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summarize the key points of this class, including the vocabulary related to music, different music genres, and famous musicians. Review the main content of the viewing and listening materials. Assign homework: Ask students to choose a musician they like and write a short passage about him/her. The passage should include the musician's name, the music genre he/she belongs to, some of his/her representative works, and why the student likes him/her. 教学反思 After this class, students should have a better understanding of music and musicians. The use of videos and audio materials can effectively arouse students' interest and help them better understand the abstract concepts of music. However, during the group discussion, some students may not be able to express their opinions fluently due to limited English proficiency. In the future, more oral English training related to music topics can be provided to improve students' speaking ability. Also, when introducing music genres, more interactive activities can be designed to make students have a deeper understanding of the differences between them. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
