教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of famous natural sceneries in the world on the PPT, such as the Grand Canyon in the United States, the Alps in Europe, and the Guilin Landscape in China. While showing the pictures, ask students some simple questions like "Do you know where this is?" "What do you think of this scenery?" to arouse their interest and lead in the topic of this class.
B. Presentation (12 minutes)
New Words Teaching
Present the new words related to natural scenery one by one on the PPT. Explain the meaning, pronunciation, and spelling of each word. For example, when teaching the word "mountain", show a picture of a high mountain, and read the word "mountain" /ˈmaʊntən/ slowly, emphasizing the pronunciation of each syllable. Then ask students to read after the teacher several times.
Use some simple sentences to help students understand the usage of new words. For the word "river", say "The river provides water for the people living nearby." Let students repeat the sentence.
Sentence Patterns Teaching
Write the sentence pattern "The mountain is so high that it seems to touch the sky." on the blackboard. Analyze the structure of this sentence with students, explaining that "so... that..." is used to express a result. Let students make some sentences using this pattern with other adjectives they have learned, like "The flower is so beautiful that everyone likes it."
Present the sentence pattern "There is a beautiful river flowing through the valley." on the PPT. Point out that "There be + sth. + doing sth." is used to describe the existence of something in a certain state. Ask students to describe the pictures on the PPT using this sentence pattern.
C. Practice (15 minutes)
Listening Practice
Play a short audio about a beautiful mountain. The audio contains information about the height of the mountain, the plants on it, and the view from the top. Before playing the audio, ask students some pre - listening questions, such as "What do you think we can hear about the mountain in the audio?"
After playing the audio for the first time, let students answer some general questions, like "Is the mountain high or low?" Then play the audio again, and ask students to take notes of the key information, such as the height of the mountain and the names of some plants. Check the answers together.
Speaking Practice
Divide students into pairs. Each pair chooses a picture of a natural scenery from a set of pictures given by the teacher. They need to describe the scenery in the picture to each other using the new words and sentence patterns they have just learned. For example, if the picture shows a waterfall, one student can say "Look at this waterfall. It is so magnificent that it makes a loud noise. There are many tourists standing near it, enjoying the beautiful scenery."
Invite several pairs to come to the front of the class and show their pictures while describing the sceneries. Other students listen and can ask questions if they have any.
D. Production (10 minutes)
Writing Practice
Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite natural scenery. They should include the location of the scenery, its features, and why they like it. Remind them to use the new words and sentence patterns in their writing.
Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance when students are writing. After they finish writing, ask them to exchange their passages with their partners and check for grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes, and the use of words and sentence patterns.
Invite some students to read their passages aloud to the whole class. Give praise and suggestions for improvement.
E. Summary and Homework (3 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with students, including the new words, sentence patterns, and the skills of describing natural sceneries. Ask students to recall what they have learned in this class.
Homework
Ask students to find more information about a famous natural scenery in the world, and make a simple poster about it. They should include pictures, descriptions in English, and some interesting facts about the scenery. The poster will be shared in the next class.
教学反思
After this class, I need to reflect on the following aspects:
Teaching Effectiveness: Check whether students have achieved the teaching objectives. Whether they can master the new words and sentence patterns, and whether they can use them to describe natural sceneries in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. If some students still have difficulties, I need to find out the reasons and provide additional help.
Teaching Methods: Evaluate whether the teaching methods used in this class, such as presentation, practice, and production, are appropriate and effective. If some activities are not well - received by students, I need to adjust them in the future teaching. For example, if the pair - work in speaking practice is too easy for some students, I can increase the difficulty level or change the way of cooperation.
Student Participation: Consider the participation degree of students in class. Whether all students actively participated in various activities. If some students were left out, I need to think about how to encourage them to be more involved in the next class, such as giving them more opportunities to express themselves and providing more positive feedback.
Time Management: Review whether the time allocation in each part of the teaching process is reasonable. If some parts took too much or too little time, I need to adjust the time arrangement to ensure a more smooth teaching process.
