When I was thirteen years old, I became very interested in shopping. After a while being just a buyer, I wanted to sell something. I had many things around the house from my childhood that I no longer needed. I knew, with the help of my father, I could make money. So for months and months I enjoyed myself by selling things on my dad’s account (账户).
On December 9, 2017, I opened my own account and began to start my own business. Things were going great and then I realized that selling things around the house wasn’t making me the kind of money that I wanted to make, so I decided to turn my business into a resale shop. I went around to the garage sale (旧货出售处) and bought items at low prices and sold them at higher prices later.
Last November, I went to a garage sale that was a little bit different. A single lady had many nice items that I knew I would sell quickly. I went up to her and started a conversation with her. Through the conversation, I knew she was jobless at the moment and needed money to support her family. I decided to sell any of her things for her to help her out. She looked at me for a moment and then broke into tears. I took away some of her things and over the next month I made over $1,500 for her. She was so thankful for all of my help. I have never felt so happy to help someone in my life. I felt as if I had made a difference in this world and that my skills could be used to help someone who would really need it.

On a hill 600 feet above the surrounding land, we watch the lines of rain move across the scene, the moon rise over the hills, and the stars appear in the sky. The views invite a long look from a comfortable chair in front of the wooden house.
Every window in our wooden house has a view, and the forest and lakes seldom look the same as the hour before. Each look reminds us where we are. (Paragraph 2)
There is space for our three boys to play outside, to shoot arrows, collect tree seeds, build earth houses and climb trees.
Our kids have learned the names of the trees, and with the names have come familiarity and appreciation. As they tell all who show even a passing interest, maple(枫树) makes the best fighting sticks and white pines are the best climbing trees.
The air is clean and fresh. The water from the well has a pleasant taste, and it is perhaps the healthiest water our kids will ever drink. Though they have one glass a day of juice and the rest is water, they never say anything against that.
The seasons change just outside the door. We watch the maples turn every shade of yellow and red in the fall and note the poplars (杨树) putting out the first green leaves of spring. The rainbow smelt fills the local steam as the ice gradually disappears, and the wood frogs start to sing in pools after being frozen for the winter. A family of birds rules our sky and flies over the lake.
39. From Paragraph 2, we can learn that __________.

In the early 1900s, American chemist Harvey W. Wiley led the famous “Poison Squad” experiment, which showed the dangers of uncontrolled food additives (添加剂) and made people realize the importance of knowing what was in the food they bought. However, it wasn’t until almost 90 years later that a law asked companies to display what was really ____42____ the boxes, cans, and bags in American grocery stores. Then, consumers (消费者) had clear information to help them make healthier choices.

Yet when we browse the internet—another necessary marketplace in our lives—there is ____43____ information about what we are “consuming” with each click. We're taking in huge amounts of digital information, often without any idea of its “nutritional” content.
Just like nutrition labels (营养标签) that help you make better choices about what enters your body, content labels can help you take control of what gets into your ____44____. This will reduce harmful behavior such as useless surfing and time wasted on meaningless browsing.
With social media platforms under attack for creating bad feelings, a content labeling system could offer users a much-needed tool to make healthier digital choices.
____45____, U. S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy recently suggested warning labels for online platforms. Much like cigarette packages, they should tell users about the ____46____ of browsing harmful content. What’s more, that’s not enough—we also need instructions. Content labels provide those. They offer a way for users to control their “diets” on the Internet.
With the help of these tools, we could ____47____ content labels before diving into a news article or blog post.

D. Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答问题) (6分)
“Hello! I said to myself today that if I did five handstands, it would be an excellent year, and I did!” Thus began the 41-volume (and counting) diary of my life. It was 1984 and I was 14, feeling my way through adolescence (青少年时期). Most of the diaries have lain unread since I wrote them. Yet every morning. I hold my pen and write up yesterday.
You pay more attention to the world when you know you’ll be writing it up. I recorded a pony-tailed metalworker from Canada who shared the same singers with me and a middle-aged woman in a waiting room who described to me her lively garden. I want to write about even the dullest day because the ordinary things of today will be tomorrow’s history.
The past still lives on in those pages, and I can feel it closing over me if I look back on them. Recently, I read every day of my university years. It was like reading a novel about someone else. I read of difficult situations I no longer recalled and of dramas whose endings I had forgotten. Long-lost friends danced to a Swedish pop group in my student room, and long-dead voices spoke again. When I closed the diary, I felt like I went into a different century, a different home and a different family, and surprised at the years that had brought me here.
It’s a weighty business recording a life, yet it has taught me not to take myself too seriously. When painful moments are written down, I can more easily let them go. Seeing life as a story with an unknown number of chapters to write is both exciting and frightening. I plan to record the days until I can no longer hold a pen. The only part of the story I’ll never get to write will be the ending.

【59题详解】
根据“I plan to record the days until I can no longer hold a pen. The only part of the story I’ll never get to write will be the ending.”可知,划线句中的ending“结局”暗喻生命的终结。日记需由本人在生前书写,故无法亲自记录自己的死亡。故填She means she cannot write about her own death in the diary.
