Unit 4 Weather and our lives-B Seasonal activities (Speaking) This speaking lesson is from Unit 4 "Weather and our lives" in the sixth-grade English textbook of Shanghai Education Press (Five-four 学制). It focuses on seasonal activities. Through various activities, students will learn to describe different activities in different seasons, express their preferences for seasons and activities, and understand the relationship between weather, seasons, and human activities. The lesson will integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to improve students' comprehensive language ability. 教学目标 Students can master the key words and phrases related to seasonal activities, such as "fly a kite", "go swimming", "make a snowman", "have a picnic", "plant trees", etc. Students can understand and use the sentence patterns to talk about seasonal activities, like "In spring, we often fly kites. / I like going swimming in summer because it's hot. / What do you usually do in autumn? / Winter is a good season to make a snowman." 教学重难点 1 Key Points The key words and phrases about seasonal activities. The sentence patterns for talking about seasonal activities and expressing preferences. Improving students' oral English ability to describe seasonal activities. 2 Difficult Points Using the correct verb forms and sentence structures when describing seasonal activities, especially the correct use of gerunds after "like" and "love". Expressing opinions and preferences about seasons and activities vividly and accurately, and being able to give reasons. Conducting smooth and effective communication in English about seasonal topics. 1 Key Words and Phrases Spring: fly a kite, plant trees, have a picnic, go hiking Summer: go swimming, eat ice cream, go to the beach, play water games Autumn: pick fruits, go camping, fly a kite (also suitable for autumn), have a barbecue Winter: make a snowman, go skiing, go skating, have a snowball fight 2 Sentence Patterns In + season, we/ I + often/ usually + activity. I like + activity + in + season because + reason. What do you usually do in + season? Which season do you like best? Why? My favorite season is + season because I can + activity. 教学过程 1 Warming-up (5 minutes) Greet the students as usual. Play a short video about different seasons, showing the beautiful sceneries and some typical activities in each season, such as blooming flowers and people flying kites in spring, people swimming in the sea in summer, the falling leaves and people picking fruits in autumn, and children making snowmen in winter. After the video, ask students some simple questions like "What season did you see in the video?" "What were people doing in that season?" to arouse their interest and lead in the topic of this lesson. 2 Presentation (10 minutes) Show pictures of different seasonal activities one by one on the PPT. For each picture, ask students to describe what they see. For example, show a picture of a child flying a kite. Ask "What's the child doing?" Encourage students to answer "The child is flying a kite." Then teach the phrase "fly a kite" and write it on the blackboard. Teach other key words and phrases about seasonal activities in the same way, and let students read them several times to remember. Present the sentence patterns. First, use the pictures again. For example, point to the picture of flying a kite and say "In spring, we often fly kites." Explain the structure of this sentence. Then use other pictures to make more sentences, such as "In summer, I like going swimming because it's hot." Let students repeat the sentences after the teacher. Explain the usage of "like + doing" and the reason clause. 3 Practice (15 minutes) Pair Work: Divide the students into pairs. Give each pair a set of cards with different seasons and activities written on them. One student picks a season card, and the other picks an activity card. Then they make sentences according to the cards, like "In autumn, we usually go camping." They can ask each other questions too, such as "What do you like to do in winter?" The teacher walks around the classroom to monitor and help the students. Group Competition: Divide the class into several groups. Each group takes turns to send a representative to the front of the class. The teacher shows a picture of a seasonal activity on the PPT. The representative of each group has to quickly say a sentence about this activity using the correct sentence pattern. If they answer correctly, their group gets one point. The group with the most points at the end wins. This activity can not only strengthen students' memory of key words and sentence patterns but also stimulate their sense of competition. 4 Production (10 minutes) Individual Presentation: Ask each student to think about their favorite season and the activities they like to do in that season. They can write down some key words and phrases first. Then each student comes to the front of the class to make a short presentation, saying "My favorite season is... because I can... I often... with my friends/ family." The other students listen carefully and can ask questions after the presentation, such as "Why do you like this activity?" "Do you do it every year?" Seasonal Brochure: Divide the students into groups of four. Each group is required to make a seasonal brochure. They can choose a season they like best. On the brochure, they need to draw some pictures of activities in that season and write some sentences to introduce these activities. After they finish, each group presents their brochure to the whole class, explaining their pictures and sentences. This activity can improve students' cooperation ability and creativity. 5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key words, phrases, and sentence patterns of this lesson with the students. Ask students to recall what they have learned today, such as the activities in different seasons and how to express their preferences. Homework: Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite season and activities, at least 50 words. Let students make a phone call to their English-speaking friends (if possible) or record a voice message to talk about their favorite season and activities, and send it to the teacher or share it in the class group. 教学反思 After this lesson, students should have a better understanding of seasonal activities and be able to express themselves in English. However, there are still some aspects that need to be improved. In the teaching process, some students may have difficulties in using the correct verb forms, especially the gerunds after "like" and "love". In the future, more exercises and explanations should be provided to strengthen this point. During the group activities, some students may be less active and rely too much on their partners. Teachers need to pay more attention to these students and encourage them to participate actively. The time for individual presentation may be a bit tight, resulting in some students not being able to fully express themselves. Next time, the time arrangement can be adjusted to give more time for students to show themselves. In general, through various activities in this lesson, students' interest in learning English has been enhanced, and their oral English ability has also been improved to a certain extent. But continuous improvement and innovation in teaching methods are still needed to better meet the learning needs of students. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
