教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students as usual.
Show some pictures of different school activities on the PPT, such as students reading in the reading club, running in the sports meeting, performing on the stage in a drama performance. While showing the pictures, ask students simple questions like “What are they doing?” to arouse their interest and lead in the topic of school activities.
2. Presentation (12 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Teach the new vocabulary about school activities one by one. Write the words and phrases on the blackboard, and read them aloud for students to imitate. For example, when teaching “reading club”, say “This is a reading club. We can read many interesting books in the reading club.” Let students repeat several times.
Use flashcards with pictures and words to help students remember the vocabulary better. Show the flashcards and ask students to quickly say out the corresponding words.
Sentence Pattern Teaching
Write two sentences on the blackboard: “I am going to join the writing club.” and “I will join the writing club.” Explain the differences between “be going to...” and “will...” briefly. “Be going to...” is used when we have already made a plan before talking, and “will...” is often used for a decision made at the moment of speaking.
Give more examples: “She is going to take part in the sports meeting. She has been training for a long time.” and “There is no milk at home. I will buy some after school.” Let students understand the usage in different contexts.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Pair - work
Ask students to work in pairs. Each pair gets a set of cards with different school activities written on them. One student picks a card and uses “be going to...” or “will...” to make a sentence about the activity on the card. The partner listens and repeats the sentence. Then they change roles. For example, Student A picks a card with “art exhibition” and says “I am going to attend the art exhibition next Friday.” Student B repeats “I am going to attend the art exhibition next Friday.”
Walk around the classroom to monitor the pairs' activities, and offer help if necessary.
Group - work
Divide students into groups of four. Each group is given a task to make a conversation about their future plans for school activities. They need to use at least three different school activities and both “be going to...” and “will...” sentence patterns in the conversation.
After a few minutes of preparation, ask each group to come to the front of the classroom and act out their conversation. The rest of the students listen carefully and can ask questions after the performance.
4. Production (8 minutes)
Let students write a short passage about their favorite school activity and their future plans related to it. They should use the vocabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class.
After they finish writing, ask several students to read their passages aloud to the class. Give positive feedback and comments to encourage them.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with students, including the vocabulary about school activities, the usage of “be going to...” and “will...” to express future plans.
Ask students to recall the interesting parts of the group - work conversations and the passages they heard.
Homework
Ask students to talk about their school activities plans with their parents in English and write down a short dialogue.
Let students search for more information about special school activities in other countries and be ready to share in the next class.
教学反思
After this class, generally, students showed a high level of enthusiasm in the learning process. The warming - up activity with pictures successfully attracted their attention and led in the topic smoothly. During the vocabulary and sentence pattern presentation, most students could follow the teaching steps and understand the new knowledge. However, in the practice part, some students still had difficulty in distinguishing the usage of “be going to...” and “will...”. In the future, more examples and exercises should be provided to strengthen their understanding. The pair - work and group - work activities effectively improved students' speaking ability, but some groups were a little shy when performing in front of the class. More encouragement and opportunities for public speaking should be given. The production part, writing a short passage, helped students to consolidate the learned knowledge, but some students made grammar mistakes. It is necessary to pay more attention to grammar correction and writing guidance in the following classes. Overall, this class achieved most of the teaching objectives, but there is still room for improvement.
