Unit 3 Our digital lives-Section 2 Exploring and applying rules (Grammar) This grammar section in Unit 3 “Our digital lives” mainly focuses on the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. It is designed to help students learn how to use these forms to compare digital devices, the influence of digital technology, and various aspects of digital life. Through this learning, students can describe the differences and similarities among different digital elements more accurately, which is an important part of improving students' language expression ability in the context of digital life. 教学目标 Students will be able to understand the formation rules of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, including regular and irregular changes. Students can master the usage of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives in sentences, and correctly use them to express comparisons. 教学重难点 The formation rules of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. Regular adjectives usually add “-er” / “-est” or use “more” / “most” before the adjective, while irregular adjectives have special forms. The correct usage of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives in sentences, such as the comparison of two things using the comparative form and the comparison of more than two things using the superlative form. 1 Comparative Form of Adjectives Regular Adjectives: One - syllable adjectives generally add “-er” to form the comparative. For example, “fast - faster”, “short - shorter”, “tall - taller”. Adjectives ending in “-e” only add “-r”. For example, “nice - nicer”, “large - larger”. One - syllable adjectives with a single vowel letter followed by a single consonant letter double the final consonant letter and then add “-er”. For example, “big - bigger”, “hot - hotter”. Two - syllable adjectives ending in “-y” change “y” to “i” and then add “-er”. For example, “happy - happier”, “easy - easier”. For most two - syllable adjectives and all adjectives with three or more syllables, we use “more” + adjective to form the comparative. For example, “beautiful - more beautiful”, “important - more important”. Irregular Adjectives: “good - better”, “bad - worse”, “many/much - more”, “little - less”, “far - farther/further”. 2 Superlative Form of Adjectives Regular Adjectives: One - syllable adjectives generally add “-est” to form the superlative. For example, “fast - fastest”, “short - shortest”, “tall - tallest”. Adjectives ending in “-e” only add “-st”. For example, “nice - nicest”, “large - largest”. One - syllable adjectives with a single vowel letter followed by a single consonant letter double the final consonant letter and then add “-est”. For example, “big - biggest”, “hot - hottest”. Two - syllable adjectives ending in “-y” change “y” to “i” and then add “-est”. For example, “happy - happiest”, “easy - easiest”. For most two - syllable adjectives and all adjectives with three or more syllables, we use “the most” + adjective to form the superlative. For example, “beautiful - the most beautiful”, “important - the most important”. Irregular Adjectives: “good - the best”, “bad - the worst”, “many/much - the most”, “little - the least”, “far - the farthest/furthest”. 教学过程 1 Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some pictures of different digital devices, such as an old - fashioned mobile phone and a modern smartphone, a desktop computer and a laptop. Ask students: “Look at these pictures. Which one is better? Why?” Encourage students to express their opinions in simple English. This can arouse students' interest and lead to the topic of comparing things, thus smoothly introducing the grammar content of this class - the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. 2 Presentation (12 minutes) Write some simple adjectives on the blackboard, such as “big”, “small”, “good”, “bad”. First, ask students if they know how to compare two things using these adjectives. Guide students to recall some simple comparative words they have learned before. Then, start to explain the formation rules of the comparative form of regular adjectives in detail. Use examples on the blackboard to illustrate, and at the same time, let students read after the teacher to strengthen their memory. Next, introduce the irregular adjectives in the comparative form. Write down the irregular pairs like “good - better”, “bad - worse” on the blackboard, and give some simple sentences to help students understand their usage, such as “The new game is better than the old one.” “The weather today is worse than yesterday.” After that, in the same way, explain the formation rules and usage of the superlative form of adjectives, both regular and irregular. Use more examples and let students observe and think about the differences between the comparative and superlative forms. 3 Practice (15 minutes) Oral Practice: Divide students into pairs. Give each pair a set of cards with different digital - related adjectives written on them, such as “powerful”, “light”, “convenient”. Students need to use these adjectives to make comparative and superlative sentences. For example, if the card says “powerful”, they can say “My new computer is more powerful than my old one. It is the most powerful computer among my friends'.” Walk around the classroom to monitor and provide guidance. Conduct a “quick response” activity. Show some pictures of digital devices on the PPT, and quickly ask students questions like “Which one is smaller?” or “Which one is the most popular?”. Students should answer as quickly as possible. Written Practice: Hand out a worksheet with some fill - in - the - blank exercises. The exercises are designed to practice the formation and usage of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. For example: This tablet is ______ (light) than that one. Among all the apps, this is the ______ (useful). The new software is ______ (good) than the old version. After students finish, go through the answers together, explain the reasons for each answer, and correct students' mistakes in time. 4 Production (8 minutes) Arrange a group discussion. Divide students into groups of four or five. The topic of the discussion is “The Most Important Digital Device in My Life”. Each group member needs to express their opinions, using the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives to explain why they think a certain digital device is the most important. For example, “In my opinion, the smartphone is the most important digital device in my life. It is more convenient than a computer because I can carry it with me everywhere. And it has more functions than a simple MP3 player, such as making calls, surfing the Internet and taking photos.” Each group selects a representative to report the group's discussion results to the whole class. Other groups can ask questions or make comments. 5 Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key points of this class with students, including the formation rules of the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, and their usage in sentences. Emphasize the importance of mastering these grammar points for better description and comparison in English. Homework: Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite digital device, comparing it with other similar devices and explaining why it is the best. They need to use at least three comparative and superlative sentences in the passage. Let students find some English advertisements about digital products in newspapers, magazines or on the Internet, and underline the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives used in them, then bring them to class next time to share with classmates. 教学反思 In this teaching process, through the combination of vivid pictures, practical examples and various forms of exercises, students can be more actively involved in the learning of grammar knowledge. The lead - in part effectively arouses students' interest, and the practice and production parts can well test students' understanding and application ability of grammar. However, there are also some areas that need improvement. For example, in the practice process, some students still make mistakes in the usage of irregular adjectives. In the future teaching, more targeted exercises and explanations can be designed for irregular adjectives to strengthen students' memory. In the group discussion part, although most students can actively participate, there are still a few students who are relatively silent. In the future, more attention should be paid to these students, encourage them to express their opinions, and create a more inclusive and active classroom atmosphere. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
