Famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami creates an alternate 1984 called 1Q84 where nothing feels right and everything is slightly different. Set in Tokyo, Japan, this dystopian, mystery-filled fantasy novel is sure to keep your captivated during your trip. Bring “One Hundred Years of Solitude” to read in South America. A significant work of literature, Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s classic follows generations of the Buendia family as they live in their South-American town. Garcia Marquez’s magical realism paired with his lush descriptions makes the book a perfect read for visiting some of the breathtaking sights of South America. Consider picking up “The Great Gatsby” if you’re going to The Hamptons in New York. Although the “West Egg” and “East Egg” in the classic novel more greatly resemble the Great-Neck and Port-Washington peninsulas (半岛) on Long Island, F. Scott Fitzgerald is believed to have been inspired by the Hamptons when crafting this book. Set in the Jazz Age, the book’s decadence, hot summers, and longing for past lovers make it a great companion for pool hopping, charcuterie eating, and luxury shopping in The Hamptons. As you’re travelling around Amsterdam, read “The Fault in Our Stars”. Previously adapted into a film in 2014, John Green’s story of star-crossed teenagers famously includes a trip to Amsterdam. The Anne Frank House and The Rijksmuseum are two of many major destinations mentioned in the book. Plus, the bench from the film adaptation of this novel has ever become its own tourist spot. 1. If you are into parallel existence and you are full of imagination, which book would you like to pick up? A. The Fault in Our Stars. B. One Hundred Years of Solitude. C. 1Q84. D. The Great Gatsby. 2. Which one of the followings is NOT true? A. Generations of the Buentia family live in their South-American town. B. One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book mainly about sights of South America. C. “West Egg” and “East Egg” are both place names. D. The Great Gatsby is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. 3. An excerpt from the book: One might marvel at the insanity (疯狂) of the situation: A mother sends her16-year-old daughter alone with a 17-year old boy out into a foreign city. According to the introduction mentioned above, which city is probably this foreign city? A. Tokyo. B. New York. C. Amsterdam. D. Sao Paulo. B For years, illegal hunters hunted lions without mercy along the border between Chad and Cameroon in north-central Africa. They killed so many of the animals that wildlife conservationists consider lions to be extinct in the region. But over the last decade, the governments of both nations have been working together to protect the area’s vast grassland and the many animals living there. Now, their efforts seem to be paying off. For the first time in 20 years, a lion has been spotted inside Chad’s Sena Oura National Park, located near the border with Cameroon. In February a remote camera shot a photograph of a beautiful grown-up female lion that was clearly in great health, the nonprofit Wildlife Conservation Society and the government of Chad revealed in a joint statement last week. In the image, which appears to have been taken at night, the big cat lay comfortably on the ground with her left paw (爪子) extended and her right paw bent toward her body. They suspect this female crossed the border into Chad from Bouba N’djida National Park in Cameroon, where overall lion numbers are on the rise. The two parks are near to one another, so it makes sense that lions would be returning to parts of their former range, including Sena Oura, according to the statement. Though this female is the only lion in the photograph, she’s likely not alone. “This is hugely encouraging, because grown-up females are the foundation of any lion population, and they are not big wanderers. They inhabit areas that have prey (猎物) and are safe to raise their babies in,” says director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s big cat program, to BBC News. The new photo has given wildlife officials a renewed sense of optimism about the future of lions in West and Central Africa, where their numbers have dropped by roughly 66 percent since the early 1990s. Lions that inhabit this region are genetically (基因方面地) different from other groups, so their reappearance is especially valuable, according to the statement. 4 What was the situation like along the border between Chad and Cameroon? A. No one illegally hunted wild animals there. B. Lions there were once thought to be extinct. C No conservation methods were taken to stop killing animals. D. The two governments failed to reach an agreement on wildlife protection. 5. What can be learned about the lion caught by the camera? A. It was a healthy female one. B. It was sensitive to the surroundings. C. It was spotted on the Cameroon side. D. It had been in the national park for 20 years. 6. What might the future of lions there be like according to the last paragraph? A. Terrible. B. Promising. C. Ambiguous. D. Debatable. 7. Why is the reappearance of lions in West and Central Africa valuable? A. Their population is large. B. They are unlikely to wander away. C. They are a genetically unique group. D. Their hunting skills are incomparable. C From an airplane, cars crawling down the highway look like ants. But actual ants — unlike cars — can avoid the stop-and-go traffic. On a driveway with 15 vehicles per mile, one driver tapping their brakes can cause a persistent traffic jam. Researchers are now studying these insects’ cooperative strategies to learn how to program self-driving cars that don’t jam up. Previous research had shown that ants can maintain their flow even at high densities (密度). So what’s their secret? In a recent study published in Transportation Research, researchers recorded ants on trails and used traffic-engineering models to analyze their movement. They found that the ants don’t jam because they travel in groups of 3 to 20 that move at nearly constant rates while keeping good distances between one another and they don’t speed up to pass others. Human drivers at rush hour hardly tend to follow such rules. “We’re maximizing the interests of individuals. That is why, at a given point, you start to have a traffic jam,” says study co-author Nicola Pugno, who studies solid mechanics at the University of Trento. In his vision of this future, autonomous vehicles would avoid traffic jams by prioritizing constant speeds and headways or by not passing others on the road. Like ants on a trail, which use scent (气味) to control behavior while interacting with one another, the autonomous vehicle network would help cars keep constant speeds while collecting and sharing information. “There is no leader,” but this organization emerges anyway, says Noa Pinter-Wollman, a behavioral scientist at the University of California. And in both ant and vehicle traffic, this type of distributed system can be very strong and changeable. Still, ants can do a lot of things that cars — even self-driving ones — can’t, the researcher points out. Ants can make trails as wide as they like, unlike drivers stuck on highways. Plus, unlike cars, ants don’t crash; they can literally walk over one another. Today’s drivers can learn at least one thing from ants to avoid causing a traffic jam: by leaving room between their car and the one ahead of them, drivers can absorb a wave of braking in dense traffic conditions that would otherwise give rise to a traffic jam with no obvious cause. 8. Which is the contributing factor to ants’ stable traffic at high densities? A. Slow speed. B. Varied trails. C. Sufficient space. D. Strict rules. 9. Which of the following is in line with Nicola Pugno’s opinion? A. Prioritizing interests can lead to inefficient traffic flow. B. Human drivers usually break the traffic rules at rush hour. C. Human drivers will drive more slowly than autonomous vehicles. D. Autonomous vehicles may be programmed to improve traffic situation. 10. What can we learn about autonomous vehicle network? A. It can keep vehicle speed under control. B. It can provide drivers with changeable routes. C. It can form a solid and flexible traffic system. D. It can use scent to communicate with vehicles. 11. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. What ants will do when they face traffic jams. B. How ants may save you from future traffic jams. C. What we can benefit from autonomous vehicles. D. Why we should keep good distances while driving. D While saying “no” can be liberating to some, for others it can be uncomfortable. Sometimes, society teaches us the word “no” is impolite. We feel more obligated (有义务的) to get along with things we honestly do not want to do in order to be socially accepted. Yet, there are clear benefits to the word “no”. One of the first steps is to find a way to say “no” that feels natural and authentic for you. Perhaps you may find the “sandwich method” helpful. It is an approach that involves sandwiching something that individuals may consider negative between two positives. Tell the person something positive followed by the “no” and end with something positive. It’s also important to keep in mind that saying “no” to something but giving other options that better fit your needs can also be an effective way to use the power of “no”. Remember that your needs are important and your decisions can directly affect your time and energy. We all have various roles in our work, parenting, social obligations, and family dynamics. These roles can challenge our abilities to set boundaries. Learning about yourself and finding your inner power is crucial to your health and well-being. Boundaries can be flexible when appropriate. Take time to reassess your boundaries, taking into account the pros and cons. And remember: Boundaries do not have to be permanent. Standing firm in your decisions and being able to express yourself can be so rewarding, but there are also some signs to keep in mind when it is not being used in a way to empower. Withdrawal, loss of interest in activities, or having feelings of worthlessness can be more than indicative of saying “no”. If you find yourself saying “no” in a way that leads to isolation, then it might be time to see a mental health professional. Overall, there isn’t a “right” way to say “no”. You will never be able to please everyone. Remember to let your inner confidence shine in your ability to say “no”. 12. What does society think of saying “no”? A. Understandable. B. Necessary. C. Inconsiderate. D. Indifferent. 13. How does the “sandwich method” work? A. By avoiding anything negative. B. By being supportive before and after rejection. C. By looking on the positive side. D. By setting permanent boundaries in daily life. 14. What does the author suggest people do regarding saying “no”? A. Stick to one’s decisions. B. Express oneself flexibly. C. Prioritize others’ needs. D. Mind its negative effects. 15. What would be a suitable title for the text? A. The Power of a Gentle Refusal B. How to Take Care of Oneself C. The Journey of Self-discovery D. How to Satisfy Others’ Needs In a world of constant consumption and information overload, the appeal of minimalism has never been stronger. ___16___ This guide will walk you through several practical steps to accept a minimalist lifestyle, helping you declutter your space, simplify your life, and focus on what truly matters. It was a place where dreams took flight and friendships blossomed, but more importantly, it was where a student’s optimism sparked a transformation throughout the entire school community. Emily Parker was a freshman at Milton Academy, known for her bright smile and optimism. Her hair, a cascade of auburn curls, always seemed to bounce with an infectious energy. Emily’s classmates often admired her ability to see the bright side of every situation, even when faced with adversity (逆境). One autumn morning, the school announced a surprise project: a school-wide talent show, to be held in just two weeks. The news spread like wildfire, lighting a mix of excitement and fear among the students. Many were eager to showcase their talents, while others, like Mark Thompson, a shy and introverted boy, felt a wave of anxiety rising in their stomachs. Mark’s artistic talent was widely recognized, yet his shyness prevented him from displaying his works to the public. He often spent his lunch breaks sketching (素描) in the art room, far away from the noisy cafeteria and the stares of his peers. Emily, always on the lookout for opportunities to spread joy, noticed Mark’s loneliness and decided to approach him. “Hey, Mark, I heard about the talent show,” Emily said, her eyes twinkling with excitement. “You should definitely participate! Your drawings are amazing, and everyone would love to see them.” Mark shook his head, his cheeks turning a shade of crimson (猩红色). “I don’t think so. Emily, I’m too nervous. What if no one likes them?” But Emily continued to encourage him. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ His hands trembled as he walked to the front of the stage, holding his best drawings. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 白银市第八中学2026届高三8月阶段性考试试卷 科目:英语 (考生注意:本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 注意:回答听力部分时,请先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? 4. What was the situation like along the border between Chad and Cameroon? A. No one illegally hunted wild animals there. B. Lions there were once thought to be extinct. C. No conservation methods were taken to stop killing animals. B 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第一段中的“They killed so many of the animals that wildlife conservationists consider lions to be extinct in the region. (他们捕杀了如此多的狮子,以至于野生动物保护主义者认为该地区的狮子已经灭绝。)”可知,乍得和喀麦隆边境的狮子曾被认为已经灭绝。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“In February a remote camera shot a photograph of a beautiful grown-up female lion that was clearly in great health (2月,一台远程摄像机拍摄到了一只美丽的成年母狮,显然它非常健康)”可知,相机拍到的是一只健康的成年母狮。故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“The new photo has given wildlife officials a renewed sense of optimism about the future of lions in West and Central Africa (这张新照片让野生动物官员们对西非和中非狮子的未来重新燃起了乐观情绪)”可知,这一地区狮子的未来是充满希望的。 根据最后一段中的“Lions that inhabit this region are genetically (基因方面地) different from other groups, so their reappearance is especially valuable (生活在这个地区的狮子在基因上与其他群体不同,所以它们的重新出现尤其有价值)”可知,西非和中非狮子重新出现很有价值是因为它们在基因上是独特的群体。故选C项。 C From an airplane, cars crawling down the highway look like ants. C 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段“They found that the ants don’t jam because they travel in groups of 3 to 20 that move at nearly constant rates while keeping good distances between one another and they don’t speed up to pass others.(他们发现蚂蚁不会堵塞,因为它们以3到20只为一组,以几乎恒定的速度移动,同时彼此之间保持适当的距离,而且它们不会加速超过其他蚂蚁)”可知,蚂蚁在高密度下交通稳定的原因是它们之间保持了足够的空间,而不是慢速、多样的路径或严格的规则。 根据第三段“In his vision of this future, autonomous vehicles would avoid traffic jams by prioritizing constant speeds and headways or by not passing others on the road.(在他对未来的设想中,自动驾驶汽车将通过优先考虑恒定速度和车距,或者不在路上超车来避免交通堵塞)”可知,Nicola Pugno认为自动驾驶汽车可以通过编程来改善交通状况,即自动驾驶汽车可能被编程以改善交通状况。 根据第四段“Like ants on a trail, which use scent (气味) to control behavior while interacting with one another, the autonomous vehicle network would help cars keep constant speeds while collecting and sharing information. “There is no leader,” but this organization emerges anyway, says Noa Pinter-Wollman, a behavioral scientist at the University of California. And in both ant and vehicle traffic, this type of distributed system can be very strong and changeable.(就像小路上的蚂蚁,它们在相互交流时使用气味来控制行为,自动驾驶汽车网络将帮助汽车保持恒定速度,同时收集和共享信息。加州大学的行为科学家Noa Pinter-Wollman说:“没有领导者,”但这种组织无论如何都会出现。在蚂蚁和车辆交通中,这种分布式系统都非常强大且可变)”可知,自动驾驶汽车网络将帮助汽车保持恒定速度,同时收集和共享信息,这种分布式系统都非常强大且可变,可推理出自动驾驶汽车网络可以形成一个坚固而灵活的交通系统。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“From an airplane, cars crawling down the highway look like ants. But actual ants — unlike cars — can avoid the stop-and-go traffic. On a driveway with 15 vehicles per mile, one driver tapping their brakes can cause a persistent traffic jam. Researchers are now studying these insects’ cooperative strategies to learn how to program self-driving cars that don’t jam up(从飞机上看,在高速公路上爬行的汽车看起来像蚂蚁。但实际的蚂蚁——与汽车不同——可以避免走走停停的交通。在一条每英里有15辆车的车道上,一个司机踩刹车就能造成持续的交通堵塞。研究人员正在研究这些昆虫的合作策略,以学习如何编程自动驾驶汽车,使其不会堵塞)”和最后一段“Today’s drivers can learn at least one thing from ants to avoid causing a traffic jam: by leaving room between their car and the one ahead of them, drivers can absorb a wave of braking in dense traffic conditions that would otherwise give rise to a traffic jam with no obvious cause(如今的司机至少可以从蚂蚁身上学到一样东西来避免造成交通堵塞:通过在自己车和前车之间留出空间,司机可以在密集的交通状况下吸收一波刹车潮,否则这股刹车潮会在没有明显原因的情况下引发交通堵塞)”可知,文章围绕蚂蚁的交通策略展开,说明其对解决人类交通拥堵的启发,尤其是对自动驾驶汽车的借鉴意义,因此,蚂蚁如何帮你摆脱未来交通拥堵可以概括本文的主题。故选B项。 D While saying “no” can be liberating to some, for others it can be uncomfortable. How to Satisfy Others’ Needs 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第一段“Sometimes, society teaches us the word ‘no’ is impolite.(有时,社会告诉我们‘不’ 这个词是不礼貌的。)” 根据第二段“It is an approach that involves sandwiching something that individuals may consider negative between two positives. Tell the person something positive followed by the ‘no’ and end with something positive.(这是一种将人们认为负面的内容夹在两个正面内容之间的方法。先告诉对方积极的事情,然后说‘不’,最后再以积极的内容结束。)”可知,“三明治方法”的运作方式是在拒绝前后都给予积极回应。故选B项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“Standing firm in your decisions and being able to express yourself can be so rewarding, but there are also some signs to keep in mind when it is not being used in a way to empower.(坚定自己的决定并能够表达自我是很有价值的,但也要留意当说‘不’未能赋能时的一些迹象。)” 因此A项The Power of a Gentle Refusal 故选A项。 In a world of constant consumption and information overload, the appeal of minimalism has never been stronger. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 But Emily continued to encourage him. Emily’s smile remained steadfast. “Mark art is sharing your heart. One appreciator makes it worth it. I’ll cheer you on.” she said. Reluctantly, Mark agreed. Emily’s optimism influenced him, reducing his fears. She helped him prepare, urging him to embrace his talent. On the talent show day, the auditorium buzzed with excitement. Various talents were displayed. When Mark’s name was called, Mark, with courage in his heart, stepped onto the stage. His heartbeat pounded, but his steps were firm. His hands trembled as he walked to the front of the stage, holding his best drawings. During his painting presentation, the audience were captivated by its emotional depth and detailed work. They applauded enthusiastically, recognizing Mark’s talent. Mark’s face beamed with a long-absent smile, feeling confident and accomplished. He noticed Emily in the crowd, applauding proudly. This marked a turning point for Mark, as he realized he had overcome his fears and found his own stage. 词汇激活 行为类 ①影响:influence/affect ②欣然接受:embrace/accept ③鼓掌:applaud/clap 情绪类 ①自信的:confident/assured ②害怕:fear/fright 【点睛】【高分句型1】When Mark’s name was called, Mark, with courage in his heart, stepped onto the stage.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句以及with复合结构作状语) 【高分句型2】They applauded enthusiastically, recognizing Mark’s talent.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 【高分句型3】This marked a turning point for Mark, as he realized he had overcome his fears and found his own stage.(运用了as引导原因状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
