第一节
Dear Peter,
Glad to hear that you have set up the table tennis club recently, I’m interested in it. Could you provide me with a brief introduction to the club?
It is known that any club, aimed at spreading the charm of table tennis and keeping students physically active, is open to anyone who is passionate about the sport, whether they are good players or not. What is the purpose of your club? Does anyone who is keen on table tennis participate in it? When will members of the club meet? Are there some relevant contests to be held to help members improve their skills?
I am eager to join it.
Yours ,
Li Hua
第二节
Sample writing:
Luckily, I felt a pat on my shoulder and a gentle voice came, “Are you lost”? “Yes!” I cried. It was a lady working at Disney. She picked me up and carried me through the crowd as she kept asking me where my parents had been standing. As I began to feel safe in the lady’s arms, I calmed down and thought for a few minutes. I remembered we had been leaning against a wooden fence. She carried me around the wooden fence, asking random people, “Is this your child?” “No. Sorry,” everyone kept saying. You’re sorry? Look at me. I’m looking for my mommy, I thought.
Finally, through the crowd of people, I recognized a face.I was so happy. “Mommy!” I shouted as I pointed toward her so the lady could carry me to her. When the lady put me down, I ran to my mom and gave her a huge hug. I couldn’t let go of her. I didn’t want to lose her again. As I cried in my mother’s arms, my family thanked the nice lady for everything she had done for me. For the rest of the evening and the entire next day, I was more concerned with making sure that my parents were within my sight at all times than I was with seeing the sights at Disneyland. I look back at these memories and laugh at myself, but to this day, I always make sure to tell someone where I am going before I run off.

One Saturday in December, Annacarin Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newspapers, some families were in the children's section and others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf's colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays. Visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What's remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library's electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.

A.People tend to show care for others. B.Life is always full of the unexpected.

Have you ever been somewhere truly free from the sounds of humankind? We become immune to the sounds of distant traffic and especially the subtle (不易觉察的) hum of planes high above in the sky, but there are few places that don’t have some form of noise pollution.
Noise pollution is noise that has surpassed surrounding noise levels and has a harmful impact on humans and animals. This type of pollution is generated by humans and is a form of environmental degradation (恶化). It can serve as a source of stress on fauna (动物群), which can have negative effects on animal welfare, and can even cause behavioral changes in birds, according to a study on the impacts of noise pollution on birds.
Noise pollution can be problematic when frequencies that are produced disrupt information transmission in animals, specifically animals that use similar frequencies to communicate. These disturbances can also lead to higher anti-predator behaviors in situations that don’t require it, as well as change species vocalization (发声), increase stress and stress related diseases, and have the potential to decrease populations.
Trees can be used against noise pollution, according to an investigation on the effects of leaves, branches, and canopies (树冠) on noise pollution. By decreasing the area in which noise is made and increasing tree presence with tree belts of at least 12 meters, trees could serve as a noise barrier in urban areas. Another study found that tree belts with a width of 30 meters could be planted on the roadside and have more than 6dB reduction of noise than a grassland would. The conclusion was that more trees, branches, and leaves could reduce noise pollution.
Regulations have also been placed in the US statewide and by local governments to reduce noise pollution. New York, for example, has a regulation that looks at occupational noise exposure; this ranges from monitoring noise to providing personal protective equipment. Many states and local governments in the US have their own regulations regarding noise pollution: however, many focus on the human impacts that noise pollution has and not the environmental impacts.
28.What does the author want to tell us in Paragraph 1?
A.Noise pollution widely exists. B.Humans aren’t impacted by noise.
C.It is hard for humans to hear plane noises. D.Lots of places are free from noise pollution.
29.What impact does noise pollution have on animals?
A.It can relieve them from stress in life. B.It can cause much trouble to their hearing.
C.It can cause them to behave abnormally. D.It can prevent them from making any sound.
30.What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about?
A.Trees can be used to reduce noise pollution.
B.A study carried out by scientists on noise pollution.
C.The function of leaves, tree branches and canopies.
D.The differences between tree belts and grassland.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The US has spared great efforts to deal with pollution.
B.Different states share the same regulations on in the US.
C.All government levels take pollution seriously in the US.
D.Noise pollution has drawn great attention in the States.

Women interpret emojis differently to men, research suggests. Scientists say this is because these small digital pictographs can be ambiguous and be perceived differently by different people. The researchers surveyed 523 adults (49% men and 51% women) to review 24 different emojis. Each emoji — taken from Apple, Windows and WeChat platforms — represented one of the six emotional states labelled by the team: happy, disgusted, fearful, sad, surprised, and angry.
They found women were able to more accurately interpret happy, fearful, sad and angry emoji labels compared to men. No gender differences were observed for surprised or disgusted emoji, the team said. Dr. Ruth Filik, associate professor in the School of Psychology at The University of Nottingham, said, “What I found most interesting and surprising is that there are so many individual differences in how people interpret these emojis.”
“It is important to note that the results reflect how often participants labelled the emoji in the same way as the researchers. So, we should think of the results in terms of there being differences across people in how they interpret emojis, rather than some people being better at it than others. We should keep these differences in mind when using emojis in our messages.”
The researchers said that stylised images of faces expressing different emotions can add both nuance as well as potential ambiguity to messages sent via texts, emails or even social media. To understand more about how emojis are interpreted, the team recruited 270 people from the UK and 253 from China, who were aged between 18 to 84 years old.
Each emoji was assigned an emotion label by the researchers, which they say may not correspond exactly with the emoji as used in real life. In addition to gender, the team also found age to play a role in how emoji are interpreted, with younger adults faring better than the older ones in matching the emoji with their assigned labels. The researchers say ambiguity of emojis is worth further research, “especially when communicating across gender, age, or cultures”.
32.Why are emojis interpreted differently according to paragraph 1?
A.Emojis are taken from different platforms.
B.People’s perception on emojis may vary differently.
C.Varied emotional states are labelled to an emoji by itself.
D.The number of women involved in the study is more than that of men.
33.Which statement would Dr. Ruth Filik most likely agree with?
A.Women are better at interpreting emojis than men.
B.The meaning of the emojis should be defined by researchers.
C.We should pay attention to individual differences in interpretation when using emojis.
D.Those interpreted the emojis in the same way as the researchers have done correctly.
34.What does the word “nuance” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Difference. B.Similarity. C.Familiarity. D.Details.
35.What’s the author’s purpose in introducing the study?
A.To introduce an interesting phenomenon of online chatting.
B.To show that different emojis have different meanings.
C.To prove that ambiguity of emojis is determined by one’s gender, age and culture.
D.To remind people to pay special attention to the ambiguity of emojis.

When I was about six years old, my family and I went to Disneyland one weekend and had a wonderful day full of excitement. Little did I know that the real excitement wasn’t to begin until that night.
While we watched the fireworks, I began to get an urge to go to the restroom, but I didn’t want to miss the show. I overheard my sister Isabel talking to my mom, and I got closer to them to hear what they were talking about. “Mom, I’m going to the bathroom with Lizette, okay?” said Isabel. “Okay,” my mom replied, “but stay together. I don’t want any of you getting lost. ”
The second I saw my sisters leaving, I didn’t think twice before running after them—without telling my parents. As I followed them through the huge crowd of people, I started to lose sight of them. I began to panic as I scanned the crowd for them. Crazy thoughts ran through my head like “What if I never see my family again?”
I gave up trying to find my sisters and tried to get back to my family, but I was completely mixed up. After searching for what seemed like forever, I couldn’t hold back my tears, and I started crying like I had never cried before.
“Mommy!” I cried out. But everyone around me was too caught up by the fireworks to pay any attention to me. I tried to stop the scary thoughts that were going through my head and started running as fast as I could...anywhere...everywhere. I was going crazy. I’m only six, and I’ve gotten lost. “What have I done? How could I have been so dumb to run off without telling anyone?” I thought.
With my face wet from tears, I kept running, pulling at people’s pants and crying, “Mommy!” I was hoping, wishing, that one of these adults would be one of my parents.
