Passage 2
(24-25高一上·合肥一中·期中)
Fall Is the Best Time to Visit These National ParksNatchez Trace Parkway (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee)
Wandering 444 miles between the Mississippi River and Nashville, the Natchez Trace is impressive for more than 10,000 years of American history and some of the prettiest scenery in the South. Its autumn is splendid with fall leaves, as well as migratory birds making their way south. The fall season also brings special events along the parkway like the Natchez Balloon Festival (October 18-19) and Dancing With The King (October 18-20).Big Bend National Park (Texas)
The huge park often flies under the radar because it’s so far off the beaten path. But it’s worth the drive for those who enjoy wild rivers, surprising desert landscapes, and special history. By the end of September, 80-degree temperatures are the norm, especially in the high-altitude, forested Chisos Basin, located in the heart of the park. Because the rainy season lasts till September, water is still high on the Rio Grande, which means almost ideal conditions for canoe camping.
White Sands National Park (New Mexico)
Cooler temperatures are just one of the reasons to visit White Sands in the fall, especially for those backpack-camping the park’s wilderness trail. Another reason to visit in the fall are awesome full moons that lighten the mysterious landscapes of this New Mexico desert park. White Sands celebrates the autumn supermoons — when the celestial body appears larger than normal because it’s closer to the Earth — with Full Moon Hikes (September 18 and October 16) and Full Moon Nights that feature live outdoor music, specifically a jazz band on September 17 as well as Native American musician and storyteller Randy Granger on October 17.
Capitol Reef National Park (Utah)
As one of the largest national parks in the lower 48 states, Capitol Reef is never overcrowded, not even during the summer vacation season. But there’s a special reason to visit in the fall-harvest season in the fruit gardens of historic Fruita. For a small fee, visitors can self-pick the peaches, pears, and apples with ladders and fruit-picking poles provided by the Park Service. Afterward, they can enjoy the fruits of their labor at the nearby camp and picnic area.
25.What does the underlined part “flies under the radar” probably mean?
A.Stands out. B.Goes unnoticed.
C.Faces bad comments. D.Plays an important role.
26.What do Natchez Trace Parkway and White Sands National Park have in common?
A.They both have open areas for camping.
B.They both have special events in October.
C.They both have amazing desert landscapes.
D.They both have a history of more than 10,000 years.
27.What is special about Capitol Reef National Park?
A.It is crowded in autumn.
B.It is famous for fruit-planting.
C.It is convenient for visitors to pick fresh fruits.
D.It is the largest national park around the world.
【答案】25.B 26.B 27.C
【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了四个可以在秋天游览的国家公园。

Witness the sweeping cinematic scenery of the movie Harry Potter by booking a seat on the Jacobite Steam Train. Stop for lunch in Mallaig and then make the return journey to Fort William. Please be sure to book the steam train in advance, as it is exceedingly popular. By the way, it runs seasonally.

Day 1 Overview Edinburgh
It was in Scotland’s capital city that J. K. Rowling started to plot the adventures of Harry and his pals. With stoned streets, winding alleys and medieval (中世纪的) architecture, the city certainly has a few things in common with the settings from the books and films. She wrote the early chapters in various cafes around the city’s Old Towns.
Day 2 Overview travel to Fort William
Travel by train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. From there, you can take the West Highland Line toFort William. This is a great way to see some famous spots from the window, including the mysterious Rannoch Moor, the place where Death Eaters board the train in the movie Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
Day 3 Overview all aboard the Hogwarts Express
Witness the sweeping cinematic scenery of the movie Harry Potter by booking a seat on the Jacobite Steam Train. Stop for lunch in Mallaig and then make the return journey to Fort William. Please be sure to book the steam train in advance, as it is exceedingly popular. By the way, it runs seasonally.
Day 4 Overview lakes and glens (峡谷)
In the films, mysterious, misty landscapes frame the background of Harry’s tale, so it’s no surprise that the film producers chose the Highlands for many scenes. Spend a day wandering through some of these beautiful spots and feel the magical atmosphere.
