Passage 1
(24-25高一上·合肥一中·期中)
23-year-old Rachna Kumari is a soft-spoken young woman selling unique wheat stalk paintings (麦秆画) handmade by herself. Every morning, even before her mother awakens, she finishes cooking and cleaning before cycling 5km to run her shop alone. Over the past year, she has sold about 200 of her paintings, 50 of which were bought since she opened her shop in April this year.
However, back in 2019, Rachna had almost given up on life after having to leave school due to family’s financial problems. She became depressed, thinking she would have to spend the rest of her days doing household chores.
Around this time, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) came into the picture with Project Lehar, started to provide vocational training, entrepreneurship (创业), and life skills courses to young women. Project Lehar, run by AKF in partnership with The King’s Trust International, enables girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to rediscover and realise their potential. This was a good opportunity for Rachna to not just continue her studies but also to convince her parents to drop her marriage plans.
After she was admitted into college through Project Lehar, she was also given some suggestions on entrepreneurial and career prospects. One such session on wheat stalk painting made her fall in love with this traditional art form of Bahraich and her creativity was brought out.
Now she is economically independent by selling wheat stalk paintings. However, Rachna is not resting on her achievements. Her shop also doubles up as a training centre where other girls from disadvantaged backgrounds like her who want to stand on their feet get a second chance to change their lives like she did.
While teaching these enthusiastic young girls is a joyful experience, what gives Rachna more pride is being chosen as a wheat stalk painting trainer by the foundation. From being a trainee under this project to now becoming its paid trainer, Rachna’s life has come full circle.

Passage 3
(24-25高一上·合肥一中·期中)
Yang Li, a native Miao woman passionate about embroidery, owns a folk culture products shop that sells Miao embroidery, batik cloth, and silver jewelry. At first, the small shop struggled as there were many similar products on the market. Yang realized the need for a unique brand to stand out from the competition. During a hike in Fanjing Mountain in July 2011, Yang accidentally cut her hand on a thorny leaf. This gave her an idea; “There are leaf-vein bookmarks and leaf-vein paintings. Why has nobody created leaf-vein embroidery yet?”
Obviously, the reason behind this is that embroidering on leaves requires delicate skills that few possess. Yang Li collected thousands of leaves from Fanjing Mountain and processed them by steaming, boiling, and tanning them to expose their veins. While the leaves become soft, they are also extremely fragile. The biggest challenge was improving the flexibility of the leaves. After consulting local expert Shen Min, she learned that soaking them in acidic water could make them tough enough for embroidery.
Through continuous learning and practice, she succeeded in creating her first piece of leaf-vein embroidery, which perfectly combines traditional embroidery patterns with the natural textures of the leaves. By adding traditional designs from the Miao, Tujia, and Dong ethnic groups, she produced art that exhibits a unique aesthetic appeal of traditional embroidery with contemporary craftsmanship. Yang notes that typically, only those with decades of embroidery experience can independently complete the entire leaf-embroidery process, which is fewer than 20 people in Tongren from 2011 to now.
Two years later, Yang opened an embroidery processing factory and offered jobs to more than 500 laid-off female workers, rural women, and people with disabilities. “Guizhou is a province with a large number of ethnic groups and has a long history of ethnic embroidery skills,” she says. “I will keep doing the leaf-vein embroidery for the rest of my life because it is meaningful.”

A.Her love for Miao embroidery. B.The discovery of a special leaf.
C.An accidental injury to her hand. D.A decrease in her shop’s earnings.

However, they were very different from each other when it came to everything other than their appearance. Sam had no friends, while Tom was a great friendship maker. Sam loved sweets, but Tom loved spicy food and detested sweets. Sam was Mommy’s pet and Tom was Daddy’s pet. While Sam was generous and selfless, Tom was greedy (贪婪的) and selfish!

Passage 5
(24-25高一上·阜阳一中·期中)
The Arctic trip with Quark Expeditions is an amazing experience, and I am thankful for it. However, it also makes me realize our presence here sounds pointless in this great setting, like we are visitors from another world.
Our 10-day journey explored the Svalbard islands in northern Norway. At our farthest point, the North Pole was still 600 miles away, but I had never been so far north. It felt like we were at the top of the world.
The story of humans in the Norwegian Arctic is all about looting (掠夺) the natural world for fur, coal and other resources (资源). The first recorded visit was by Dutch sailor Willem Barentsz in June 1596, searching for a northeast passage to China. History presenter Federico Gargiulo explained that this discovery put the Arctic on the map. That attracted people to come and try to take those resources.
Today, there are environmental controls on visiting this area. On our first day, we watched videos that laid down the law: Do not touch or take anything, and stay with your armed guide for protection from polar bears. We also washed our shoes and feet before boarding or leaving the ship to make the land free of pollution.
Tourists pay a lot and travel far to see Arctic wildlife. On our last night, we finally got a close-up of a polar bear. Everyone rushed to the decks (甲板) with cameras. We saw the bear swimming towards us, and as it got closer, we could make out its black eyes and rounded ears.
Quark Expeditions’ guides are experienced in different fields. I learned a lot from them. The guide Austin Hart’s words impressed me: “It’s not much of a human planet. Dinosaurs were around for 180 million years. I don’t know if humans have that long.” As I stood among ice and snowy mountains, this made me feel unbelievably small.
17.How does the author feel after the journey?
A.Our presence fits in with the planet. B.It’s too cold on the Svalbard islands,
C.Human beings are tiny in this world. D.We must stop using natural resources.

A.To draw a map of Norway. B.To find a northeast path to China.
C.To explore the local history. D.To search for a passage to Holland.

A.Strict rules on visiting the Arctic. B.The rising number of tourists.
C.The measures to protect wildlife. D.Useful tips on watching birds.
20.Where is this text probably taken from?
A.A history book. B.A news report. C.A research paper. D.A travel magazine.
Passage 6
(24-25高一上·马鞍山二中·期中)
Ten years ago, Price Hill resident Patti Hogan noticed a problem in her neighborhood. Instead of letting the problem go on, she took action. Hogan is now a board member for the program she launched a decade ago, the Price Hill Safety Community Action Team (CAT). The community program works to beautify Price Hill while also keeping kids out of trouble.
Hogan has lived in Price Hill all her life and started the Safety CAT to address a significant problem she was seeing in the community. “We had a terrible problem with young kids just standing around on the street and wrestling with each other,” Hogan said. Along with fights, Hogan says streets were filled with abandoned homes and overgrown grass. Not wanting to move away, she thought about what she could do — attack the problem head-on.
Each Saturday during the summer, the sounds of lawnmowers (割草机) fill the neighborhood. Those who are making this “music” are the neighborhood kids who are part of the Safety CAT. They come together to cut and clean up the lawns of abandoned homes.
Hogan helps teach the kids how to work a landscape, and how to earn a dollar — they bring home around $45 each week. As Hogan explains, the lesson is more than about money. “We’re keeping them busy and then they’re giving back to the neighborhood by changing some of the blight (破败之处) and in the process, we’re teaching them values and character lessons as we go,” Hogan explains. She also hopes she is teaching them to treasure their neighborhood as much as she does.
That love has spread to the children on the program. Philip Miller, who graduated from the 10-week summer program two years ago, now comes back to help guide the other kids. “This program helps you look at work as a team and also work on your individual personal growth,” explains Miller.
Hogan says they still have spaces open for anyone interested in getting their child involved, and they are always looking for volunteers.

B.To make her neighborhood a better place.
C.To raise public awareness about environmental issues.
D.To make officials aware of the problems facing Price Hill.
22.How does the program benefit the kids according to Patti Hogan?
A.It allows them to make money each day.
B.It teaches them practical skills for their future.
C.It helps them know about their neighborhood.
D.It assists them in shaping good personal qualities.
23.What does Philip Miller’s story show?
A.The program really works well. B.Children need space to volunteer more.
C.The program changed the kids’ career path. D.Children need a role model in their personal growth.
24.What can we say about Patti Hogan after reading the text?
A.She has a tough but gentle nature. B.She is narrow-minded but generous.
C.She has a strong sense of social responsibility. D.She is eagerly seeking support for her program.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·马鞍山二中·期中)
I’m a single dad raising a son, so I usually helped my child select my Father’s day gifts, and then paid for them. When my son was a high school senior, he took control of the gifting by offering to drive us to Denny’s for breakfast. But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college.
It truly felt like I had just taken the training wheels off my son’s bike. In my household, the fridge door is the all-knowing parental focus holding the academic and sports schedules, the school lunch menu, and the family calendar. Also attached to it are photos, awards, artwork, and the “good” report cards. The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life.
I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides. As I checked the golden oldies, I quickly realized three things. First, I had too many photos. Second, I needed to clear up the sides of the refrigerator. Third, soccer was a big part of our lives.
I never played or watched soccer before parenthood. Yet, I became the coach for all his teams until he reached middle school. Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor.
I time-traveled through mementos (纪念品), and each memory helped me understand what being a dad really meant. Teenagers might not give us presents we want or need on Father’s day. But they have already given us the best possible gift — allowing us to feel what it’s like to be their dad.

B.Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship.

A.He recognized he had too many photos.
B.He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood.
C.He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task.
D.He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting.

When I was a teenager, I used to be troubled by doubts and fears about my future. One summer afternoon, I drove alone for a change, but suddenly my night turned into disaster. I was rushed to hospital.
I remember when I came to, I found my parents were beside me. The doctor walked in, “Due to the seriousness of your injuries,” he began. “You’ll probably have a difficult time walking, let alone be able to dance, or join in sports.” The news was horrific. Basketball was my favourite sport and being on the school team meant everything to me. I cried uncontrollably imagining the worst for my future. With time, not only did I dance and play basketball again, I also transformed my entire way of life. I learned to change the way I thought. I learned to replace despair with hope, and as a result, I was free of anxiety attacks, headaches and lack of confidence.
Even more amazingly, that accident created a turning pointing, helping me discover my life’s purpose. Inspired by the positive changes I made to my life; I devoted my life to helping others find the same fulfillment.

(24-25高一上·合肥六校联盟·期中)
Growing up, my older sister always told me that going to high school allowed me to have more fun. But on the night before the first day, going to sleep was difficult. I was up all night thinking about how the day would go. What if my friends aren’t in any of my classes? What if I get made fun of? What will people think of when they first see me?
The next morning, as I started walking towards the gate of the school I had butterflies in my stomach. There were a lot of students. As I looked around, I started to notice the familiar (熟悉的) faces of my friends who went to primary school with me. For some reason, I would get very nervous when someone new got close to me.
The one thing I was most nervous about was walking in late to one of my classes. Guess what? That was exactly what happened. Going to the first period was simple because luckily, other students were helping us find our classes. Not to mention, I ended up having that class with a couple of friends.
As I made my way down the halls to get to my second-period class, we had about five minutes to get to our classes. Finally, I ended up getting lost and coming to class ten minutes after the bell had rung, which resulted in the class looking at me when I walked in. I felt self-conscious. Everyone had already taken their seats so I rushed to sit down as well. However, I had to sit with someone new. It took me a while to begin talking to him but once I did, things became easier because I was able to ask for help when needed.

Passage 4
(24-25高一上·合肥六校联盟·期中)
Walking is the best form of exercise. It is good for the upper respiratory (与呼吸有关的) system and the legs. It helps us control our weight and blood sugar. Walking is also a good way to help you make more friends, bringing chances to see new things and meet new people. Personally, I try to walk at least 5 miles daily.
As well as walking, I also cycle around Xiamen. Cycling is great for weight loss and helps to build stamina (耐力). However, cycling does not allow for the same level of social contact as a walk. It is for this reason that I would strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy. I originally (最初) started walking around Xiamen because I didn’t have a car, but I soon started to enjoy the walking itself.
I have also made many friends during my walks. It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as 2 or 3 hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route. These days, if I skip my walk for even one day, the people in the shops may want to know why I didn’t come.
I’ ll never forget the first time some people followed me when I was walking, and asked if it was okay for them to walk with me. I really didn’t know what to say, so I just replied that I didn’t mind. I have been invited for lunch, dinner and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. There is nothing more pleasant than walking past a schoolyard and hearing all the kids say hello to me.
37.Why did the author have to take a walk at the very beginning?
A.Because he wanted to build his body. B.Because he enjoyed walking.
C.Because he had no car. D.Because he wished to make friends.
38.The underlined word “skip” in the third paragraph is closest in meaning to __________.
A.annoy B.quit C.revise D.arrange
39.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Cycling allows for no social contact. B.Walking is better than cycling.
C.To be healthy, it’s better to cycle. D.The author prefers walking to cycling.
40.Why did the author tell us his walking experience in the last two paragraphs?
A.To share the unforgettable experience with us.
B.To show us the meaning of walking in social contact.
C.To tell us how to develop the habit of walking.
D.To explain to us why a usual walk took him as long as 2 or 3 hours.

Passage 1
(23-24高一上·安师大附中·期中)
In my childhood, my parents never shared their worries in economy, instead choosing to let us have a carefree childhood. But I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that they couldn't afford certain things my friends had.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My brothers and I brought lunch from home every day. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of chicken or fish, cold milk, and a piece of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the yearning (渴望) in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I skipped home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my plate of chicken across the dining hall and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn't as great as l had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
I don't know why Mrs. Caruso took a shine to me. Maybe she also grew up in a family that struggled. Maybe she knew what it was like to feel just a little less than everyone else. Somehow, even with her quiet charity, she never made me feel ashamed. She just made me feel loved and important. Thanks to her, I learned that I had just as much right as anyone to sit at the hot-lunch table.
I don't remember what Mrs. Caruso looked like anymore, but I sure do remember how she made me feel. I've never lost that feeling—of being important to someone and being protected by her. After all these years, I'm still grateful to that wonderful teacher.

The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting all summer. I didn’t want summer to end, but I was excited about going to high school for my first week.
When I got to school in the morning on the first day I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar (不熟悉的) faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun.

Passage 3
(23-24高一上·马鞍山二中·期中)
Beth Bonness talked into the mirror as her hairstylist cut her hair. Bonness was telling a funny story about a trip to Rome. Suddenly, the stylist started moving her hands around in the mirror. “Beth. Beth. Beth. Can you hear me? ” she said. Bonness asked her what was wrong. In her mind, the words were coming out of her mouth. But she could see in the mirror that her lips weren’t moving. She started seeing bursts of light in the sides of her vision (视野). Then suddenly, the sensations disappeared.
Tests indicated Bonness had a transient ischemic attack (短暂性脑缺血发作) (TlA). About a third of people who have a TIA go on to have a more serious stroke (中风) within a year.
Bonness said she was told it was a one-off incident, so she didn’t worry about future problems. Plus, only old people have strokes, she told herself. She was 49, healthy and fit. Ritz has been teaching for nearly 10 years in a high school where the early graduation rate of the students was just 17%. He discovered a way to connect and intrigue these students, especially the ones who seemed the hardest to reach.
Once, he received a package of flower bulbs (球茎) which he mistakenly thought were onions. He was afraid that they might become weapons (武器) in a classroom fight, so he hid them behind a radiator (暖气片) and forgot about them.
Six weeks later, an angry girl ran after a boy who always made troubles. As usual, Ritz rushed towards them to break up what he thought was about to become a disaster.

Unfortunately, he could not even make it half way home as the sun started to set. Slowly, it got very dark on his way and he had to drag his tired feet back home. He lost the race, only because of his greed.( 然而,汤姆贪婪地想赚更多的钱,即使过了中午也不打算回家。 故选A。
18.Why did Willem Barentsz come to the Norwegian Arctic?
A.To draw a map of Norway. B.To find a northeast path to China.
C.To explore the local history. D.To search for a passage to Holland.
19.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Strict rules on visiting the Arctic. B.The rising number of tourists.
C.The measures to protect wildlife. D.Useful tips on watching birds.
20.Where is this text probably taken from?
A.A history book. B.A news report. C.A research paper. D.A travel magazine.

19.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Today, there are environmental controls on visiting this area. On our first day, we watched videos that laid down the law: Do not touch or take anything, and stay with your armed guide for protection from polar bears. We also washed our shoes and feet before boarding or leaving the ship to make the land free of pollution. (今天,对参观这个地区有环境控制。第一天,我们看了一些视频,上面规定了法律:不要碰或拿任何东西,为了保护自己免受北极熊的伤害,要和你的武装向导呆在一起。我们在登船或下船前也洗了鞋子和脚,使陆地没有污染。)”可知,第4段主要讲的是参观北极的严格规定,故选A。
20.推理判断题。根据第一段“The Arctic trip with Quark Expeditions is an amazing experience, and I am thankful for it. However, it also makes me realize our presence here sounds pointless in this great setting, like we are visitors from another world.
21.Why did Patti Hogan start the program?
A.To offer old people free services.

23.推理判断题。根据第五段中“Philip Miller, who graduated from the 10-week summer program two years ago, now comes back to help guide the other kids. “This program helps you look at work as a team and also work on your individual personal growth,” explains Miller.(Philip Miller两年前从这个为期10周的暑期项目毕业,现在他回来帮助指导其他孩子。“这个项目帮助你以团队的方式看待工作,同时也促进你的个人成长,”Miller解释说)”可知,两年前从为期10周的暑期项目中毕业的Philip Miller现在回来帮助指导其他孩子,他认为这个项目有助于他看待团队合作,也有助于他的个人成长。由此可推知,Philip Miller的故事表明这个项目真的很有成效。故选A。

25.What kept the author awake before Father’s day?
A.Planning a surprise for his father.
B.Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship.
C.Feeling emotional about a special Father’s day.
D.Getting excited about the breakfast at Denny’s.
26.Why is the fridge important to the family?
A.It adds an artistic touch to the house.
B.It holds memories of passing family days.
C.It is a source of creativity for school lunch.
D.It serves as a gathering place for family members.
27.Why did the author pull out the fridge?
A.To redecorate its sides. B.To clear up the kitchen.
C.To make room for a new one. D.To uncover personal mementos.
28.Why did the author claim that he was wrong in the last but one paragraph?
A.He recognized he had too many photos.
B.He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood.
C.He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task.
D.He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting.
【答案】25.C 26.B 27.D 28.C

【答案】37.C 38.B 39.D 40.B

It is for this reason that I will strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy.

Tests indicated Bonness had a transient ischemic attack (短暂性脑缺血发作) (TlA). About a third of people who have a TIA go on to have a more serious stroke (中风) within a year.

Passage 5

He saw the boy reach towards the radiator and thought he might have hidden a weapon there. To his surprise, the boy suddenly pulled out a bunch of yellow flowers and gave them to the girl as a peace offering. The girl decided to take the flowers home to her mother and peace came back.
The forgotten bulbs were actually daffodils (黄水仙). The steam from the radiator had forced them into flowers. From such an experience, Ritz realized that if there was power in plants to stop a classroom fight, there must be power in plants to change students’ lives. He turned the moment of growing plants into a green course, a movement that would change his life and the lives of his students. He designed vegetable gardens into part of the school ground and on top of a building.
Ritz’s students now have near-perfect attendance and graduation rates. His efforts have led him to be a great teacher who uses the power of a plant to give a voice to children.

Passage 6
(23-24高一上·芜湖一中·期中)
Peter, 60, loved his job as a bus driver. He had been one almost all his life, loving the company of the little children who rode his bus daily. It made him feel younger and more energetic. His record was clean, without one accident during his duty, which made him a trustworthy driver.
However, Mr. Clark, Peter’s boss, was concerned and thought that it was time for him to retire. “You don’t have a choice here, Peter,” he said seriously. “We don’t want to invite any risk to the children who take your bus every day. We need a replacement at this stage.”
“But I have a perfect record,”argued Peter. “You know, for an elderly man like me, my job is the only thing that keeps me alive. I want to keep my job.”
“Would you take responsibility if something bad happened to those children?” Mr. Clark said.
Peter thought it over, and very reluctantly, he gave in to Mr. Clark’s request. Peter decided to retire a week later.
His retirement day approached pretty soon. The day before his last day, Peter was dropping off the kids at his first stop when he looked out of the window and saw a lady on the road who had fainted (昏厥). He asked the kids not to leave the bus and got off to help the woman.
Just when he finished, he heard screams behind him. The children were looking out of the window and screaming. “Fire! Fire! Help!” “How could that have happened?” Peter was shaking in fear. With trembling hands, Peter dialed 911 and rushed to help the children. Peter covered himself with his jacket and burst into the flaming bus. He took the children out of the burning bus one by one. Thankfully, the firefighters arrived soon and helped Peter, saving all students.
The next day, Peter saw the entire school gathered in front of his home. When Peter approached them, Mr. Clark started clapping and everyone joined him. “You are a hero, Peter! You saved the lives of those young children,” he said. “You are the best driver. We hope you can keep the job!”

Passage 7
(23-24高一上·芜湖一中·期中)
There are human angels that appear in my life for small incidents that leave a lasting memory in my mind. One of them was a durian(榴莲)seller in a local supermarket. I couldn’t even remember how he looked like and I didn’t even know his name.
I started part-time work after junior college. I was paid a small sum of $5 an hour ac a part time fashion assistant. Having earned the money the hard way, I definitely learned to treasure every cent.
On Father’s Day, I decided to buy some durian for my father. I went to the local supermarket and looked around at the durian seller’s booth(小隔间)to pick a few packets of durian within my limited budget(预算). I focused all my attention on the cheapest range, which cost $5 a packet, equal to one hour of work standing around as a part-time fashion assistant. I wanted to get 3 packets for my family.
The durian seller appeared and asked me what I wanted. I told him that I would like to get 3 boxes of $5 durian for my father on this special day. He asked me to consider the more expensive choices. I told him I couldn’t afford them. I was ready to pick 3 boxes of $5 durian. The durian seller told me he would sell the durians to me at a discounted price. He took out his marker, adjusted the price, passed me 3 boxes and wished me well. My mind went blank, as I paid only $15 for 3 boxes of durian originally priced at $8 each. Many years later, I still remember his kindness.
