Passage 1
What a day! That morning, I was worried that no one would talk to me. But I was wrong. I didn’t feel awkward or frightened at all on the first day of senior high school. I miss my friends from junior high school, but I believe I will make new friends here and there’s a lot to explore at senior high school. I feel much more confident than I felt that morning.
My name is Adam and I’m a freshman at senior high school. Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The first week was a little confusing.
First, I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones from maths, English, chemistry, world history, Chinese and so on. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to be fluent when I graduate. My adviser recommended that I should sign up for advanced literature because I like English and I’m good at it.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn’t play well enough. Obviously, I was unhappy, but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve on my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined a volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand out food to homeless people in the community.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about keeping up with the other students in my advanced courses, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m happy to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.

Passage 1
Every Sunday morning, I take a walk around a park near my home. There’s a lake in one corner of the park. Each time I walk by this lake, I see the same elderly woman sitting at the water’s edge with a small metal cage beside her.
This Sunday, I stopped walking and went over to her. As I got closer, I realized that there were three turtles, unhurt, slowly walking around the base of the metal cage. She had a fourth turtle on her knee that she was carefully wiping with a brush, which made me feel surprised.
“Hello,” I said. “If you don’t mind my nosiness, I’d love to know what you’re doing with these turtles.”
“I’m cleaning off their shells(壳),” she replied.
“Anything on a turtle’s shell weakens the turtle’s ability to take in heat and reduces its ability to swim. It can also impair and weaken the shell over time.”
She went on, “I spend a couple of hours each Sunday morning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys out. It’s my own strange way of making a difference.”
“Well then, don’t you think your time could be better spent? It’s a waste of time. And 99% of these turtles don’t have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells. So, how exactly are your efforts here truly making a difference?”

Passage 2
Chinese educator Zhang Guimei, born in 1957, has devoted her life to advancing girls’ education in China. After graduating from Lijiang Teachers College in 1990, she began her career as a middle-school teacher. In 1995, she moved to Huaping, a remote and impoverished county in Yunnan, where she met challenges that would shape her mission.
In Huaping, Zhang discovered that poverty and traditional beliefs led many parents to ignore their daughters’ education. As a result, many girls dropped out of school early and were married off at a young age. Zhang, deeply affected by this situation, believed that an educated mother would never allow her children to abandon school. She once said, “As long as I have breath in me, I will keep teaching in the classroom with all my heart, giving everything I have.” With this strong faith, Zhang decided in 2002 to build a free public high school for girls—a bold idea that many at the beginning considered as impossible.
Despite the doubt, Zhang carried on. With support from the local government and donations from individuals, she founded Huaping High School for Girls in 2008. Determined to prevent dropouts (辍学者), Zhang made it a personal mission to visit the homes of her students, sometimes traveling for hours into the mountains. Her tireless efforts have allowed approximately 2,000 girls from poor families to pursue higher education, completely changing their futures.
“If girls from these remote areas want to leave, we just offer them a hand to help them fly and see the wider world,” Zhang said in an interview with China Global Television Network.
Beyond offering educational opportunities, Zhang has fostered a sense of self-worth and confidence in her students. In the fall of 2020, she surprised all 468 students by treating them to the best milk tea in the area, saying, “I hope that one day, these girls can walk down the street and drink whatever they want.”

Passage 2
The Arctic trip with Quark Expeditions is an amazing experience, and I am thankful for it. However, it also makes me realize our presence here sounds pointless in this great setting, like we are visitors from another world.
Our 10-day journey explored the Svalbard islands in northern Norway. At our farthest point, the North Pole was still 600 miles away, but I had never been so far north. It felt like we were at the top of the world.
The story of humans in the Norwegian Arctic is all about looting (掠夺) the natural world for fur, coal and other resources (资源). The first recorded visit was by Dutch sailor Willem Barentsz in June l596, searching for a northeast path to China. History presenter Federico Gargiulo explained that this discovery put the Arctic on the map. That attracted people to come and try to take those resources.
Today, there are environmental controls on visiting this area. On our first day, we watched videos that laid down the law: Do not touch or take anything, and stay with your armed guide for protection from polar bears. We also washed our shoes and feet before boarding or leaving the ship to make the land free of pollution.
Tourists pay a lot and travel far to see Arctic wildlife. On our last night, we finally got a close-up of a polar bear. Everyone rushed to the decks (甲板) with cameras. We saw the bear swimming towards us, and as it got closer, we could make out its black eyes and rounded ears.
Quark Expeditions’ guides are experienced in different fields. I learned a lot from them The guide Austin Hart’s word’s impressed me: “It’s not much of a human planet. Passage 3
Once I read about a country where if you go to a house and praise some small things, the owners feel it a must to offer it to you as a gift. I don’t remember the name of the country; the only other place I know of with such a custom is my mother’s home.
Knowing Mama, I have always been careful with my praise, but that doesn’t stop her. She can always sense admiration beyond words. “I was just staring at that photo of Mount Hood because I have a similar one in my bedroom.” Mama would nod, “Of course. You were thinking how nice it would be to have a set. If a mother doesn’t understand, who does?”
Recently I have been worrying for weeks about a Mother’s Day gift for Mama, as there is always the danger that a gift given to Mama will quickly come back to the giver. If I buy her something wearable, she immediately finds it fits me perfectly. If I give her a plant, she cuts off the top for me to take home and root in a glass of water. If I give her some food, she wants me to stay for lunch and eat it.
My wise Papa, long ago stopped trying to shop for her. Instead, on every important occasion he writes a short poem in which he tells of their meeting, wedding, and later marriage life. After nearly 30 years of poems, Papa sometimes worries that his poetic inspiration has dried up, but Mama doesn’t complain. She comes into the room while he is struggling over a gift poem and says, “It doesn’t have to rhyme (押韵) as long as it’s from the heart.”
This year, finally, I think I, too, have found a painless gift for Mama. I am going to give her a magazine article, unrhymed but from the heart, in which I wish her “Happy Mother’s Day” and tell her there’s nothing Papa or I could ever buy, find, or make her that would be half good enough anyway.

Passage 4
I am a multi-sport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up, school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was. Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the classroom. When I entered education, I knew I wanted to be more than a coach on the field and court — I wanted to help students like me make meaningful connections to school through sports.
I designed a program around the concepts of comfort and stretch zones. On day one, I set up a range of equipment for different sports across a field. In groups, students discussed sports that they felt comfortable and safe playing. They then took turns selecting their comfort sport on the field, doing a brief share, and playing with their group. Afterward, we had a class discussion on the importance of doing things that bring joy and passion, and how sharing that passion with others motivates us and the people around us.
On day two, with the same field design and sporting equipment, I introduced the idea of stretch zones. Students formed the same groups as on day one and discussed which sports were out of their comfort zone and more challenging to them. Some of my students were shy and others slightly frustrated (沮丧) as they struggled to perform the skills in sports in which they were not comfortable. Then we discussed, as a class, how even when something is challenging, if we recognize the difficulty and intentionally practice, we give ourselves the opportunity to overcome it over time.
The program required more than just adjusting my curriculum (课程) — it also meant some changes to the way I taught. I found myself opening up to my students and sharing my own hardships and successes with them. As a result, my students felt freer to be their real selves.

Last Saturday, I started an adventure that I would never forget. It all started when I borrowed a book from the library titled “Mysteries of the Ancient World.” The book was fascinating, filled with tales of lost cities and forgotten civilizations. However, in my excitement to dig into the mysteries, I made a terrible mistake——I lost the book.
The librarian, Mrs. Thompson, was known for her strict rules. Losing a library book meant more than a fine; it meant a temporary ban (临时禁令) from the library. Panicked (惊慌失措), I decided to retrace my steps and find the book before the week ended. I began my search at the park where I last remembered reading. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow on the grassy fields. I searched every bench, every corner, but the book was nowhere to be found. As the park emptied, I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach.
Determined, I moved on to the next place I had visited —— a small café downtown. The smell of fresh coffee filled the air as I explained my trouble to the barista (咖啡师). She was kind and allowed me to look around, but the book was not among the cozy nooks and crannies.
Tired but not defeated,I returned home and thought about the last place I could have left the book: the bus. I remembered reading it on my way to school. With a glimmer of hope, I called the bus company and explained the situation. To my surprise, they checked their lost and found immediately.
The next day, I received a call that the book had been found. Excitement washed over me as I rushed to the bus station to recover it. The bus driver, Mr. Jenkins; handed me the book with a smile, saying, “It’s always an adventure, isn’t it?”
I returned the book to the library, and Mrs. Thompson, though strict, seemed pleased that I had found it. She warned me about being more careful but allowed me to continue borrowing books. The adventure taught me the importance of responsibility and the joy of solving a mystery.

Passage 1
Last month Alaska photographer Mark Kelley was named the winning photographer in the 2022 portfolio (照片集) type featured in the National Wildlife magazine photo contest. Kelley’s winning portfolio featured 10 photos taken over the past 13 years.
“It’s a real honor,” Kelley says. “I was blown away. My goal has always been to share Alaska one image at a time, but now 10 of my images did just that. I think for a wildlife photographer it’s the world’s highest praise.”
Although he’s originally from Buffalo, New York, Kelley said he considers himself a “Southeast guy”. He always thought his love for photography growing up was just a hobby, not something he could turn into a career. That changed when he began taking photography classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. After graduating, Kelley was able to successfully secure a photography job in Juneau, and after moving to the capital city in 1979, he never looked back.
“I fell in love with Juneau,” he says. Kelley says he was drawn to Anan Creek and the animals surrounding it because the location is Southeast Alaska. He says each photo shows the continuous rain, towering trees and green forest that makes the region unlike other parts of Alaska. But, beyond the location, what brings the area to life is the plentiful wildlife that lives among the rainforest.
Kelley says that for each of the chosen 10 photos, thousands were taken to find those exact moments. Each visit included three to four days standing on a viewing platform in hopes of catching those special moments. Moments like that come in the blink of an eye, but when shot, it makes all those long hours of waiting worth it.

Passage 1
Heman Bekele has been named TIME’s Kid of the Year for 2024. The 15-year-old has come up with an idea for a soap that could help treat skin cancer, and he is already working with scientists to test his idea.
Heman’s family came to the US from Ethiopia when he was four. Heman remembers seeing people there working outside in the sun without proper sun protection, which may well increase the risk of skin cancer. From his parents, he had a deeper understanding of its dangers. Skin cancer can often be cured, but the treatment is extremely expensive for those poor workers.
Heman’s natural curiosity led him to experiment with different materials and at the age of 7, he nearly caused a fire with a chemistry set. As he got older, he began to wonder if his curiosity could actually help make a difference. Upon reading about imiquimod, a medicine that can help fight skin cancer in the early stages, he realized it was a good way to make the medicine work through a simple bar of soap.
But Heman knew that simply mixing imiquimod with soap wouldn’t work, as it would just wash away. Instead, he thought of creating a soap that contained the medicine inside super tiny “nanoparticles” (纳米颗粒) to make sure it remains on the skin after the soap washed off, allowing imiquimod to take effect.
Last year, when he was 14, Heman created a video explaining his idea, and won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. He is now working with scientists at Johns Hopkins University, running tests to see if the soap helps mice with skin cancer.
Heman knows that it will take a long time and a lot of effort to develop his soap, but he’s excited about the work. He also encourages other young people to contribute. “Just keep inventing and thinking of new ways to improve our world and make it a better place,” Heman says.
45.What drove Heman Bekele to create the soap?
A.His curiosity about skin cancer. B.His desire to develop a new medicine.
C.His family’s history of skin cancer. D.His concern for unprotected workers outdoors.
46.Why does Heman use nanoparticles in his soap?
A.To make imiquimod affordable B.To make imiquimod easier to use.
C.To help imiquimod stick to the skin. D.To help imiquimod spread faster.

Being the strong wife and mother that she is, Diana Register often hid her deep pain and suffering from those around her. In the weeks and months following her husband’s cancer diagnosis (诊断) Diana would search for “hiding” places where she could let the uncontrollable waterfalls of tears flow from her eyes.
“The storage room was a favorite. Then was the shower. But when I wasn’t home, it was the parking lots that served as my hiding places,” she said. After her husband passed away, parking lots were Diana’s safe haven (避风港) for pain and sorrow.
One day, as she was about to place her order in the Dutch Brothers coffee drive-thru, the wave of sadness hit her like a tidal wave in the middle of her conversation with a friend.
“I could hardly catch my breath and the ugly crying started,” said Diana. “The problem was, I was stuck in the coffee line. At Dutch Brothers. The one place where all the workers are young, happy and jamming out to music. And there was no way out. I was literally blocked in, so unless I wanted to back right up into the SUV behind me, I was about to be seen for the mess I really was.”
The barista, who was making and serving coffee at the window, handed Diana an iced coffee with a sweet and simple note on the top. “When I looked down in the cup holder, I saw it. A pink straw, and the words ‘We love you’ written around it.”
The girl didn’t know Diana’s pain or her story, but she knew she was hurting and couldn’t fix it. “She wanted me to know I wasn’t alone. And that whatever trial I was going through, there were people out there who cared about me.”

Passage 1
It was Christmas Eve when my elder sister and I decided to open our presents before our mom got home from work. She usually came home about an hour after we got home from school, which we thought was plenty of time to sneak a look (偷看) at the gifts under the tree.
My elder sister opened present after present while I was ordered to stand guard at the big window in our front room. Finally, when my sister’s curiosity was satisfied, we changed places.
After opening a few presents, I found it faster to open one end of a present and look inside. “Cool! Mom and Dad got me headphones!” I pulled the headphones out of the box and was about to put them on when my sister shouted, “Quick! Wrap it back up! Mom’s coming!”
I put the headphones back in the box but my hands were shaking. My heart beat faster as I tried to get the tape to stick. I had just finished burying the package with my headphones in it when my mother came into the front room. I jumped up and said, “Hi, Mom!” She smiled at me and said “Hi" back, but didn’t appear to suspect (怀疑) anything. My heart began to slow as I took a deep breath.
On Christmas morning, my sister and I smiled, and gave award-winning performances when we opened our presents—again. “Headphones!” I shouted. “Thanks, it’s just what I wanted.” After everything had been opened, my sister and I looked at each other, and our eyes met. Our secret was safe, but somehow Christmas morning didn’t feel the same.
My sister and I never opened our Christmas presents early again. I don’t know if it was that opening our gifts for the second time just wasn’t as much fun as the first time, or if we came too close to getting caught and didn’t want to think about what our mother would have done to us.
53.What did the author and his sister do before their mother came back?

Passage 1
Several months ago, I worked as a volunteer in an amateur (业余的) tennis tournament (锦标赛) called Tennis 123. One afternoon, I watched a match between a 5-year-old girl and a9-year-old boy. Wang Jun, the founder of Tennis 123, told me that the 5-year-old was the youngest player in the tournament.
Tennis 123 has no age requirement and players compete according to their level from 2.0 to 5.0. But surprisingly, the younger players often beat the older ones.
In the end, the 5-year-old lost the match 0-4. She threw her racket (球拍) meters away and cried terribly for a long time. During the match, she often looked to her mother for help. I checked the girl’s previous results: she had lost 24 matches straight. That afternoon only brought two more losses, including the one with the boy I saw.
When a player’s win ratio (比率) drops below a certain number, they will be placed at a lower level. In the girl’s case, she was already at 2.0, the lowest level, so she had nowhere else to be placed. I discussed with Wang the possibility of improving the tournament rules to better protect these very young kids.
Wang told me that the tournament has matches for beginners, young children, and those who have never won a game before. However, the girl’s parents, both retired athletes themselves, believed that she should stay at the 2.0 level as the girl’s physical condition was quite good.
Still, I disagreed. I worried that continuing to play like this would hurt the girl’s confidence in the court and in her future life. I remember when I played at the 3.0 level two years ago and lost so many times that I went back to 2.5 — it was very frustrating So I don’t think it’s a good idea to put so much pressure on children at such a young age.
Losing can be lonely, whether in tennis or in life. But losing is part of the path toward winning one day. By giving them better support, we can make sure young people grow up with confidence.
57.Why does the author mention the 5-year-old losing the match?
A.To explain the young players should be placed at a higher level.
B.To show the tournament rules should be improved for better support.
C.To show the players often lose the game because of their less experience.
D.To prove the surprising fact that the older players often beat the young ones.
58.What is the author’s attitude toward the girl’s losing in the tournament?
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Concerned. D.Unclear.
59.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Losing will damage one’s confidence in winning.
B.Losing will bring about one’s low confidence in life.
C.Winning is always walking with losing side by side.
D.Winning can often go through the process of losing.
60.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Tennis match’s popularity among children.
B.Tennis match’s influence on children’s mental health.
C.Tennis match’s role in developing children’s physical health.
D.Tennis match’s future for developing children’s sports spirits

Passage 1
For over ten years I had been trying to lose the extra weight I was carrying. I tried several techniques, and even dangerous methods like simply not eating, but I didn’t lose much weight.
13 months ago, I decided to turn to weight lifting. I had already been exploring the gym community on TikTok. For me, it was so encouraging to watch online videos about other people’s fitness journeys and see how people changed over the course of a year or so by lifting weights. I got to the stage where I really wanted to change the way I was.
The first two months was horrible. At first, I was in pain every day. And I didn’t feel like there were any changes. At the same time, I was rebalancing my diet to include 50 percent vegetables, 30 percent protein, and only 20 percent carbs (碳水化合物), which was causing a few digestion (消化) problems.
After the first two months, I had been noticing slight changes that made me want to continue. After reaching the six-month point, I noticed drastic changes in my stomach area. I cried because I felt so happy. I had been struggling for over ten years with that area, and seeing the fat there start to go away was a real relief (宽慰) to me.
I felt so proud of myself for keeping up my efforts, even when I didn’t see any results. Sometimes, I don’t think about why I’m going to the gym — it’s just my habit. I believe that it’s important to do something for your health daily. For me, it’s about wanting to do it every day, not just at the beginning, or even for six months. I think instead of wanting to remove fat as fast as possible, you have to do something that is going to last for a long time.
61.Why did the author decide to practice weight lifting?
A.The sport is popular on TikTok.
B.He was encouraged by online videos.
C.People in his community advised him to do so.
D.He suffered from health problems because of his weight.
62.What do we know about the author during his first two months of weightlifting?
A.He ate a lot of meat. B.He lost weight rapidly.
C.He developed an illness. D.He had physical suffering.
63.What does the underlined word “drastic” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Big. B.Gradual. C.Potential. D.Short-term.
64.What can we learn from the author’s experience?
A.Stick to what we do to the end. B.Have clear plans and targets for each day.
C.Focus more on the process than the result. D.Care about both physical and mental health.
Passage 2
My breakout fashion moment happened in the fourth grade. On this particular day, I was really feeling myself. I pulled on wildly colorful tights (紧身衣) and a black ruffled (有褶边的) skirt, followed by a light green T-shirt with dark purple dots. Then I added my final touch… a pair of yellow rain boots.
I climbed onto the school bus, smiling and feeling like a total star. But when I got off the bus, my friend John looked me up and down and said, “What are you wearing!?”
Everyone turned and looked at me, and I was discouraged. To be fair, John wasn’t trying to be mean. He was just shocked. But while my ego (自尊) took a minute to recover, a rebellious (叛逆的) voice in the back of my mind said, “No, I’m not showing up like everyone else.”
Style has always lit me up and felt key to my life on this planet. And through all my years, that little voice has remained. “I’m not showing up like everyone else.”
But the truth is, it isn’t about clothes. It’s about a powerful need to be accepted by the world as my true self. Personal style isn’t about being rebellious in order to draw attention. It is deeply rooted in a desire to be seen, not looked at, to be taken in as a whole and unique person by others.
But somehow, society can fall short of honoring and understanding this. There is a saying that states, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you into something else is the greatest achievement.” When it comes to style and clothes, this world very much has ideas on the “something else" we should be.
Wear the clothes you love. Let others do the same and accept the fact that in our short time here in this life together, it’s a beautiful honor to be human kaleidoscopes (万花筒).
65.What does the underlined word “mean" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Unkind. B.Anxious. C.Tough. D.Concerned.
66.What is the main message the author wants to express about personal style?
A.It is important to dress in a rebellious way to attract attention.
B.Clothing choices are not important as long as one is true to oneself.
C.Society would never approve and understand everyone’s fashion choices.
D.Personal style is rooted in the desire to be fully and uniquely seen by others.
67.Why does the author quote a saying in Paragraph 6?
A.To argue readers into following the footsteps of the others.
B.To prove it is challenging to stay true to oneself in today’s society.
C.To encourage readers to make continuous efforts to move forward.
D.To strengthen the idea that one should try to change himself to fit in.
68.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.A Unique Childhood Fashion Incident
B.The Importance of Being Different in Fashion
C.The Way to Create a Bold and Unique Fashion Style
D.The Journey of Self-Acceptance Through Personal Style

Passage 1
When Sam Fisher took his two young sons and their cousin on a hike in the Badlands of North Dakota, he was probably expecting a day of sightseeing and light exercise. What he could not have expected, however, was the group coming across the remains of a young Tyrannosaurus rex (霸王龙) that had lived millions of years ago.
Fisher and the boys were surely excited by their discovery, but they didn’t know what to do with the fossil (化石). Fisher sent a photo to his former classmate, Dr. Lyson, an expert in the Denver Museum of Nature & amp; Science. Then, Dr. Lyson arrived on the scene with a skilled team to dig up the fossil. Together, they unearthed the remains of the teenage Tyrannosaurus rex.
Their find was considered as an “incredible discovery" by the Denver Museum of Nature & amp; Science. It is unusual to find complete Tyrannosaurus rex fossils, and even more unusual to find the remains of a young one, so Dr. Lyson was excited when he realized what they had unearthed. The fossil, called “Teen Rex", is between 12 and 14 years old at the time of death. Even though it was still growing, the dinosaur already weighed 3,500 pounds and was 25 feet long, though these impressive measurements still put it at about half the size of a fully developed Tyrannosaurus rex.
“These boys have made an incredible dinosaur discovery that advances science and deepens our understanding of the natural world,” says Dr. Lyson. “I’m excited for museum guests to dig into the “Teen Rex Discovery" experience, which I think will inspire the imagination and wonder, not only in our community, but around the world!”
The fossil will be on display as part of the temporary (临时的) Discovering Teen Rex exhibition, which will open at the Denver Museum of Nature & amp; Science next month. In addition to the exhibition, the museum will also be screening a new 40-minute documentary T.REX.
69.How did Sam Fisher feel when they found the fossil?
A.Satisfied. B.Awkward. C.Amazed. D.Alarmed.
70.Why did Fisher send a photo of the fossil to Dr. Lyson?
A.To ask for help. B.To sell the fossil.
C.To find a museum. D.To show off the fossil.
71.What did Dr. Lyson think of the discovery?
A.He believed it was just another common find.
B.He considered it of great value to science.
C.He thought it would attract little interest.
D.He was uncertain about its significance.
72.What might the author continue to talk about?
A.A summary of the exhibition. B.Details about the documentary.
C.Professional advice for museum guests. D.Information on how to become an expert.

Passage 1

She once said, As long as I have breath in me, I will keep teaching in the classroom with all my heart, giving everything I have.” With this strong faith, Zhang decided in 2002 to build a free public high school for girls—a bold idea that many at the beginning considered as impossible(在华坪,张桂梅发现贫困和传统观念导致许多父母忽视了女儿的教育。 怀着这种坚定的信念,张桂梅于2002年决定创办一所免费的公立女子高中——这是一个大胆的想法,最初许多人认为这是不可能的)”、第三段“Her tireless efforts have allowed approximately 2,000 girls from poor families to pursue higher education, completely changing their futures.(她不懈地努力让大约2000名来自贫困家庭的女孩能够接受高等教育,彻底改变了她们的未来)”以及倒数第二段“Beyond offering educational opportunities, Zhang has fostered a sense of self-worth and confidence in her students.
Dinosaurs were around for 180 million years. I don’t know if humans have that long.” As I stood among ice and snowy mountains, this made me feel unbelievably small.
21.Why did Willem Barentsz come to the Norwegian Arctic?
A.To draw a map of Norway. B.To find a northeast path to China.
C.To explore the local history. D.To search for a passage to Holland.

A.Strict Rules on visiting the Arctic. B.The rising number of tourists.

A.Our presence fits in with the planet. B.It’s too cold on the Svalbard islands.
C.Human beings are small in this world. D.We must stop using natural resources.

25.Why does the author mention the country in Paragraph 1?
A.To explain a rule. B.To lead in the topic. C.To present a fact. D.To prove his point.
26.Why is the author always careful with her praises?
A.She doesn’t like any small things. B.Mama will be too proud of herself.
C.She doesn’t want Mama to know real her. D.Mama will give her whatever she praises.
27.What makes it difficult to buy a gift for Mama?
A.Mama’s refusal of any gifts. B.Mama’s misunderstanding of givers.
C.Mama’s attitude to festivals. D.Mama’s practice of giving back.
28.What does the author imply in the last two paragraphs?
A.Mama values sincere love over gift itself.
B.Poems and articles are Mama’s favorite gifts
C.Papa writes poems as gifts to save money.
D.Papa and I could never find a good enough gift for Mama.
【答案】25.B 26.D 27.D 28.A

I don’t remember the name of the country; the only other place I know of with such a custom is my mother’s home.( 有一次我读到一个国家,如果你去一所房子,夸赞一些小东西,房主就会觉得必须把它作为礼物送给你。
根据第二段中“ She can always sense admiration beyond words.( 她总能感受到无以言表的赞赏。)”以及““I was just staring at that photo of Mount Hood because I have a similar one in my bedroom.” Mama would nod, “Of course. You were thinking how nice it would be to have a set. If a mother doesn’t understand, who does?”(“我只是盯着胡德山的照片看,因为我卧室里也有一张类似的照片。”妈妈会点头说:“当然。你在想要是有一套就好了。如果一个母亲都不明白,还有谁能明白呢?”)”可知,作者知道如果她对某样东西表示赞美,母亲很可能会将它作为礼物送给她。因此,为了避免这种情况,她总是小心地赞美。故选D。
27.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Recently I have been worrying for weeks about a Mother’s Day gift for Mama, as there is always the danger that a gift given to Mama will quickly come back to the giver. (最近几周,我一直在为给妈妈买一份母亲节礼物而烦恼,因为送给妈妈的礼物很快就会回到送礼者手中的危险总是存在的。)”可知,作者担心给母亲的礼物会很快回到送礼人手中,因为母亲总是以各种方式回馈礼物。这说明了给妈妈买礼物的困难所在。故选D。
28.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“Instead, on every important occasion he writes a short poem in which he tells of their meeting, wedding, and later marriage life. After nearly 30 years of poems, Papa sometimes worries that his poetic inspiration has dried up, but Mama doesn’t complain. (相反,在每个重要的场合,他都会写一首短诗,讲述他们的相遇、婚礼和后来的婚姻生活。做了近30年的诗,爸爸有时担心他的诗歌灵感已经枯竭,但妈妈并不抱怨。)”以及““It doesn’t have to rhyme (押韵) as long as it’s from the heart.”(“不需要押韵,只要是发自内心的。”)”以及最后一段中“This year, finally, I think I, too, have found a painless gift for Mama. I am going to give her a magazine article, unrhymed but from the heart, in which I wish her “Happy Mother’s Day” and tell her there’s nothing Papa or I could ever buy, find, or make her that would be half good enough anyway.( 今年,终于,我想我也为妈妈找到了一份无痛的礼物。我要给她在杂志上写一篇文章,虽然不押韵,但发自肺腑,祝她“母亲节快乐”,并告诉她,无论如何,爸爸和我给她买的、找的或做的东西都不够好。)”可知,作者提到父亲写诗作为礼物,并且母亲并不在意诗是否押韵,只在乎它是否来自内心。接着,作者决定给母亲一篇不押韵但发自内心的杂志文章作为礼物。这些描述都暗示了母亲更看重的是真诚的爱而非礼物本身。故选A。

A.To change curricula and teaching methods.
B.To prepare students for unexpected challenges.

D.To share hardship and success with students.
31.What was a problem facing the author on the second day of the program?
A.Students wanted material rewards.
B.It was difficult to group students.
C.Some students feared challenges.
D.The sports field became crowded.
32.What can we infer about the author?
A.He is involved in one sport. B.He used to be very shy.

They’re a symbol of how skateboarding has changed her life(如果你看看奥运会滑板奖牌得主蕾莎·里尔的instagram,你可能会惊讶地看到一双破洞的旧鞋。它们象征着滑板如何改变了她的生活)”和最后一段“It’s a full-circle moment for the athlete who once skated in shoes with holes, which were holy(神圣的)shoes in her eyes.
Passage 6
From that day on, I became more cautious with my belongings, and my love for mysteries only grew. The lost library book adventure will forever be a story I share with pride.

41.What do the underlined words “blown away” probably mean in paragraph 2?
A.Thankful. B.Excited. C.Anxious. D.Confused.
42.What experience was important for Kelley becoming a photographer?
A.His visit to Southeast Alaska. B.His love for award-winning photos.
C.His college learning experience. D.His meeting with plentiful wildlife.

47.Which of the following best describes Heman according to the text?
A.Curious and creative. B.Focused and frank.
C.Understanding and modest. D.Efficient and generous.
48.What can be the suitable title of the passage?
A.Fight against skin cancer. B.Be a gifted teenager.
C.Follow a medical career. D.Meet a young scientist.

A.They bought some Christmas presents.
B.They hid Christmas presents under the tree.
C.They opened Christmas presents in advance.
D.They wrapped the headphones for their mother.
54.How was the author feeling when his mother was coming?
A.Grateful and moved. B.Happy and excited.
C.Curious and surprised. D.Nervous and frightened.
55.Why did Christmas morning give the author a different feeling?
A.His secret was found out. B.His curiosity wasn’t satisfied.
C.A pleasant surprise was lost. D.A festival atmosphere was lost.
56.What can we infer about the author from the last paragraph?
A.He didn’t like the headphones. B.He regretted what he had done.
C.He wasn’t satisfied with his mother. D.He couldn’t find his Christmas present.
【答案】53.C 54.D 55.C 56.B

由倒数第二段“On Christmas morning, my sister and I smiled and gave award-winning performances when we opened our presents — again. “Headphones!” I shouted. “Thanks, it’s just what I wanted.” After everything had been opened, my sister and I looked at each other, and our eyes met. Our secret was safe, but somehow Christmas morning didn’t feel the same.(在圣诞节的早晨,当我们再次打开礼物时,我和妹妹微笑着表演了获奖的表演。“耳机!”我叫道。“谢谢,这正是我想要的。”一切都打开后,我和姐姐对视了一下,我们的目光相遇了。我们的秘密是安全的,但不知怎的,圣诞节的早晨感觉不一样了。)”可推知,圣诞节清晨作者打开礼物后假装激动和兴奋,其实那份惊喜是不存在的,可得出那个圣诞节的早晨给了作者一种不同的感觉是因为失去了一个惊喜。故选C。
56.推理判断题。由最后一段“My sister and I never opened our Christmas presents early again. I don’t know if it was that opening our gifts for the second time just wasn’t as much fun as the first time, or if we came too close to getting caught and didn’t want to think about what our mother would have done to us.(我和姐姐再也没有提前打开圣诞礼物了。我不知道是因为第二次拆礼物没有第一次那么有趣,还是因为我们差点被抓住,不想去想妈妈会对我们做什么。)”可知,作者和姐姐从此以后再也没有提前打开过圣诞礼物,作者分析可能的原因是第二次打开礼物不再有真正的惊喜和兴奋感。由此判断他对自己之前提前打开礼物的做法是感到后悔的。故选B。

根据第四段“When a player’s win ratio (比率) drops below a certain number, they will be placed at a lower level. In the girl’s case, she was already at 2.0, the lowest level, so she had nowhere else to be placed. I discussed with Wang the possibility of improving the tournament rules to better protect these very young kids.(当玩家的胜率低于一定数值时,他们将被放置在较低的级别。在这个女孩的例子中,她已经是最低的2.0级,所以她没有别的地方可以安置。我和王讨论了改进比赛规则的可能性,以更好地保护这些非常小的孩子)”可推知,作者提到5岁的孩子输掉了比赛是为了表示比赛规则应该改进以获得更好的支持。故选B项。
58.推理判断题。根据第六段中“I worried that continuing to play like this would hurt the girl’s confidence in the court and in her future life.(我担心继续这样打下去会损害这个女孩在球场上和未来生活中的信心)”可推知,作者对女孩在比赛中的失利感到担忧。故选C项。
根据最后一段“Losing can be lonely, whether in tennis or in life. But losing is part of the path toward winning one day. By giving them better support, we can make sure young people grow up with confidence.(输球会让人感到孤独,无论是在网球场上还是在生活中。但失败是通往胜利之路的一部分。通过给予他们更好的支持,我们可以确保年轻人自信地成长)”可推知,成功往往要经历失败的过程。故选D项。
60.主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第六段中“Still, I disagreed. I worried that continuing to play like this would hurt the girl’s confidence in the court and in her future life.(不过,我还是不同意。我担心继续这样打下去会损害这个女孩在球场上和未来生活中的信心)”以及最后一段“Losing can be lonely, whether in tennis or in life. But losing is part of the path toward winning one day. By giving them better support, we can make sure young people grow up with confidence.( 输球会让人感到孤独,无论是在网球场上还是在生活中。但失败是通往胜利之路的一部分。通过给予他们更好的支持,我们可以确保年轻人自信地成长)”可知,这篇文章主要讨论网球比赛对儿童心理健康的影响,特别是如何通过适当的支持和规则改进,帮助孩子们在面对失败时保持自信和积极的心态。由此可知,文章的主旨是网球比赛对儿童心理健康的影响。故选B项。
主题05 人与自我——个人经历
【答案】61.B 62.D 63.A 64.A
根据第二段中“For me, it was so encouraging to watch online videos about other people’s fitness journeys and see how people changed over the course of a year or so by lifting weights. I got to the stage where I really wanted to change the way I was.(对我来说,观看网上关于其他人健身旅程的视频非常鼓舞人心,看到人们通过举重在大约一年的时间里发生的变化,让我达到了真正想要改变自己状态的地步)”可知,作者被在线视频所鼓舞,决定练习举重。故选B。
根据第三段中“The first two months was horrible. At first, I was in pain every day.(头两个月很可怕。起初,我每天都很痛苦)”可知,在举重的前两个月,作者身体遭受痛苦。故选D。
63.词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“After the first two months, I had been noticing slight changes that made me want to continue.(在最初的两个月之后,我开始注意到一些细微的变化,这些变化让我想要继续坚持下去)”以及后文“I cried because I felt so happy. I had been struggling for over ten years with that area, and seeing the fat there start to go away was a real relief (宽慰) to me.(我哭了,因为我觉得非常开心。我在这个部位挣扎了十多年,看到那里开始减少脂肪对我来说真是一个巨大的宽慰)”可知,在六个月的时候,作者注意到了自己腹部发生的巨大变化,故划线词drastic意思是“巨大的”,与A选项“Big(大的)”意思相近。故选A。
根据最后一段中“I felt so proud of myself for keeping up my efforts, even when I didn’t see any results. Sometimes, I don’t think about why I’m going to the gym — it’s just my habit. I believe that it’s important to do something for your health daily. For me, it’s about wanting to do it every day, not just at the beginning, or even for six months. I think instead of wanting to remove fat as fast as possible, you have to do something that is going to last for a long time.(我为自己坚持不懈的努力感到非常自豪,即使在看不到任何成果的时候也是如此。 故选A。
【答案】65.A 66.D 67.B 68.D
根据文章划线单词上文“But when I got off the bus, my friend John looked me up and down and said, “What are you wearing!?”(但当我下车时,我的朋友John上下打量着我,问道:“你穿的是什么啊?!”)”以及划线单词下文“He was just shocked.(他只是感到震惊。)” 故选A。
根据文章第五段“But the truth is, it isn’t about clothes. It’s about a powerful need to be accepted by the world as my true self. Personal style isn’t about being rebellious in order to draw attention. It is deeply rooted in a desire to be seen, not looked at, to be taken in as a whole and unique person by others.(但事实是,这不仅仅关乎衣服。这是关于我作为真实的自我被这个世界接受的强烈需求。个人风格不是为了吸引注意力而叛逆,它深深植根于一种渴望,即被别人看作一个完整而独特的人,而不仅仅是被注视。)”可知,作者认为个人风格不仅仅是关于穿着打扮,更是关于作为一个真实、独特的人被世界接受和看到的渴望。虽然衣服是表达个人风格的一种方式,但更重要的是通过个人风格来展现自己的独特性和真实性。故选D。
67.推理判断题。根据文章第六段“But somehow, society can fall short of honoring and understanding this. There is a saying that states, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you into something else is the greatest achievement.” When it comes to style and clothes, this world very much has ideas on the “something else” we should be.(但不知何故,社会在这方面往往缺乏尊重和理解。有一句话说:“在一个总是试图把你变成另一个样子的世界里保持自我,是最大的成就。”当谈到风格和衣服时,这个世界对我们“应该成为的样子”有着很多想法。)”可知,作者通过引用这句谚语想要强调的是在当今社会保持真实自我是很难的,因为社会往往有既定的期望和标准,而个体需要努力才能不被这些外部因素所影响,保持真实的自我。故选B。
68.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“My breakout fashion moment happened in the fourth grade.(我的时尚突破时刻发生在四年级。)”、最后一段“Wear the clothes you love. Let others do the same and accept the fact that in our short time here in this life together, it’s a beautiful honor to be human kaleidoscopes(万花筒).(穿你喜欢的衣服。也让别人这样做,并接受这样一个事实:在我们短暂的一生中,能够成为人类万花筒是一种美丽的荣耀。)”以及全文内容可知,文章从作者小时候的一次时尚选择出发,探讨了个人风格与自我认同之间的关系,强调了被世界接受为真实自我的重要性,并最终呼吁人们穿自己喜欢的衣服,接受自己作为人类万花筒的荣耀。选项D“The Journey of Self- Acceptance Through Personal Style(通过个人风格的自我接纳之旅)”准确地概括了文章的主题,即通过个人风格实现自我接受的过程。

【答案】69.C 70.A 71.B 72.B
根据第一段中“What he could not have expected, however, was the group coming across the remains of a young Tyrannosaurus rex (霸王龙) that had lived millions of years ago.(然而,他没有预料到的是,这群人遇到了生活在数百万年前的年轻霸王龙的遗骸)”可知,Fisher对于发现恐龙化石感到惊讶。故选C。
根据第二段中“but they didn’t know what to do with the fossil (化石). Fisher sent a photo to his former classmate, Dr. Lyson, an expert in the Denver Museum of Nature & amp; Science.(但他们不知道该如何处理化石。Fisher给他以前的同学、丹佛自然与科学博物馆的专家Lyson博士寄了一张照片)”可知,Fisher给Lyson博士发照片是为了求助他该如何处理化石,故选A。
71.推理判断题。根据第四段中Lyson博士说的话“These boys have made an incredible dinosaur discovery that advances science and deepens our understanding of the natural world(这些男孩发现了令人难以置信的恐龙,这推动了科学的发展,加深了我们对自然世界的理解)”可知,Lyson博士认为这个发现极具科学价值,故选B。
根据最后一段中“In addition to the exhibition, the museum will also be screening a new 40-minute documentary T.REX.(除了展览,博物馆还将放映一部40分钟的新纪录片《霸王龙》)”可知,文章接下来可能会继续谈论该纪录片的细节,故选B。
