教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students and lead in the topic.
T: Good morning/afternoon, class! Today, we are going to continue our journey of travelling around Asia. First, let's recall some Asian countries we have learned before. Can you name some? (Invite several students to answer.)
After students answer, show some pictures of famous Asian cities on the PPT, such as Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok, etc., and ask students to say the names of the cities.
Brainstorming
T: Now, let's think about what we can see and do in these Asian cities. For example, in Beijing, we can see the Great Wall and eat Beijing roast duck. What about other cities? Discuss in pairs and share your ideas.
B. Pre - listening (10 minutes)
Vocabulary teaching
Present the new words and phrases on the PPT one by one. Explain their meanings and pronunciations. For example, when teaching "temple", show a picture of a temple and say, "Look, this is a temple. It is a place for religious activities. Read after me, temple." Let students repeat several times.
Do some simple vocabulary exercises, like matching the words with their corresponding pictures or definitions on the PPT to help students better remember the new words.
Predicting
Show the students the title or some key pictures related to the listening materials. Then ask them to predict what the listening will be about.
T: Look at this picture. It shows a beautiful garden. And the title of our listening is 'Travelling in Asian Cities'. What do you think we will hear in the listening? Maybe something about famous gardens in Asian cities? Discuss in groups and share your predictions.
C. While - listening (15 minutes)
First listening
Play the first part of the listening materials. Let students listen carefully and answer a general question, such as "How many cities are mentioned in the listening?"
After listening, check the answer with the whole class.
Second listening
Play the listening again. This time, ask students to listen for specific information and complete a chart on the PPT. The chart may include columns like "City Name", "Famous Tourist Spots", "Local Food", etc.
Walk around the classroom while students are listening and completing the chart to provide necessary help.
Third listening
Play the listening for the third time. Ask students to listen carefully and answer some detailed questions, such as "What can you learn about the traditional culture in Bangkok according to the listening?"
Invite students to share their answers, and have a brief discussion if there are different opinions.
D. Post - listening (10 minutes)
Group discussion
Divide students into groups of four. Give each group a topic related to the listening content, such as "If you were a travel agent, how would you introduce one of the Asian cities mentioned in the listening to a customer?"
Let students discuss in groups. They can use the information they got from the listening and their own ideas. Walk around the groups to monitor and offer guidance.
Role - playing
Ask each group to choose one city and perform a role - play. One student acts as a customer, and the other three act as travel agents. The travel agents should introduce the city to the customer using the information from the listening and the group discussion.
After each group's performance, ask the other groups to give feedback. They can praise the good points and also give suggestions for improvement.
E. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class with the students, including new words, phrases, and important information about Asian cities in the listening materials.
T: Today, we learned a lot about travelling around Asia. We learned new words like 'temple', 'botanic garden', etc. And we also knew more about some famous Asian cities, such as Beijing, Bangkok, and Singapore. Remember these key points.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage to introduce an Asian city they are interested in. They should include at least three tourist spots and some local food.
Suggest students to search for more information about Asian cities on the Internet or in books to expand their knowledge.
教学反思
In the teaching process, the warming - up and pre - listening activities can effectively arouse students' interest and prepare them for the listening content. However, in some classes, students' predictions in the pre - listening part were not very accurate. Maybe I should give more hints or examples to guide them.
During the while - listening process, most students can catch the key information, but a small number of students still have difficulty. In the future, I need to design more targeted listening exercises for these students to improve their listening skills.
The post - listening group discussion and role - playing activities are very popular among students. They can actively participate and use the learned knowledge to communicate. But sometimes, the time for each group's performance is a bit long, which may affect the overall progress. I should better control the time.
Overall, through this listening class, students have increased their knowledge about Asian cities and improved their listening and communicative abilities. But there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and time management to make the class more efficient and interesting.
