Unit 1 Friendship-Welcome to the unit This unit focuses on the theme of "Friendship". The "Welcome to the unit" part kicks off the exploration of this theme. It mainly contains two activities. The first activity is a vocabulary matching exercise. Students are required to match adjectives that describe friends' qualities (such as helpful, honest, cheerful, etc.) with their corresponding explanations. This activity helps students build up a vocabulary bank related to friendship qualities. The second activity is a dialogue example. Through a conversation between a teacher and a student, it demonstrates how to express opinions using sentences like "What do you think...". This serves as a model for students to start their own discussions about the qualities that friends should possess. 教学目标 1. Language Competence Students will be able to recognize, read and use vocabulary that describes friends' qualities, including honest, cheerful, caring, humorous, trustworthy, etc. They can apply sentence patterns like "What do you think...", "I think...because...", "I agree/disagree because..." to discuss friendship. 2. Thinking Quality Analyze the importance of different qualities in friendship, and cultivate logical thinking and the ability to express reasons clearly. Develop critical thinking by evaluating and justifying their own and others' views on friendship qualities. 3. Cultural Awareness Understand the commonalities and differences in the standards of "good friends" in Chinese and Western cultures. Appreciate the cultural connotations behind different friendship concepts. 4. Learning Ability Improve communication skills and the ability to summarize through cooperative learning in group activities. Learn to collect and organize information about friendship, and use it to express their own ideas. 教学重难点 1. Key Points Master the vocabulary for describing friends' qualities and sentence patterns for expressing opinions. Enable students to use these words and sentence patterns proficiently in oral and written expressions. 2. Difficult Points For vocabulary, words like "humorous" and "trustworthy" may be difficult for students to use accurately due to their relatively abstract meanings. In terms of output, it is challenging for students to support their viewpoints with sufficient and logical reasons, for example, constructing sentences like "A good friend should be...because...". 1. Vocabulary helpful: willing to help others. E.g., She is always helpful to her classmates. honest: truthful and sincere. The opposite is "dishonest". E.g., You should be honest with your parents. cheerful: happy and positive. The adverb form is "cheerfully", and the noun form is "cheer". E.g., He has a cheerful smile. humorous: funny and able to make others laugh. E.g., My English teacher is very humorous. caring: showing care and concern for others. The verb form is "care", and common collocations are "care about" (be concerned about) and "care for" (look after or like). E.g., She is a very caring person. trustworthy: reliable and can be trusted. It is formed by "trust" (trust) + "worthy" (deserving). E.g., He is a trustworthy friend. 2. Sentence Patterns What do you think makes good friends?: Here, "do you think" is an inserted phrase, used to ask for opinions in a special question. I think good friends should be...: Used to express one's own opinion about the qualities of good friends. I agree/disagree because...: To show agreement or disagreement and give reasons. 教学过程 1. Warm - up (5 minutes) Show two pictures: One shows two friends sharing an umbrella in the rain, and the other shows one friend lying to another. Ask students: "Who is a good friend? Why?" Lead in the topic: "Today we are going to discuss what makes a good friend." 2. Vocabulary Learning (10 minutes) Task 1: Matching Exercise (Textbook Part A) Let students complete the matching of vocabulary and explanations independently. Check the answers together: 1 - e, 2 - a, 3 - b, 4 - d, 5 - c. Consolidation activity: Teachers can use body language or give more examples to help students understand. For example, when explaining "cheerful", the teacher can act out a big laugh. Task 2: Vocabulary Expansion Supplement some additional words like "smart", "tidy", "polite". Divide students into groups. Each group is required to make sentences using these new words. For example, "Smart friends can always come up with good ideas." 3. Dialogue Analysis (8 minutes) Play the dialogue recording in the textbook. Students listen and follow, and then mark the sentences for expressing opinions. Analyze the dialogue together: Ask: "Why does Millie think friends should be kind?" "What does Daniel value most in friends?" Explain sentence patterns for asking and expressing opinions, such as "What do you think...", "I think...", "Do you agree?" 4. Pair Work (12 minutes) Pair up students. They are required to discuss the qualities of friends using a given template and include at least two new words learned. Debate Activity: Divide the class into groups. The topic of the debate is "Which quality is the most important in a friendship?" Each group sends a representative to state their reasons. Summary: The teacher summarizes the core qualities of friendship, emphasizing the importance of "sincerity and support". 5. Practice and Extension (5 minutes) Ask students to write a short passage describing their best friends, using at least 3 new words learned. Encourage students to share their passages with their partners. 6. Homework Assignment (5 minutes) Ask students to interview their family members about their views on "good friends" and record the results. They can write a short report about the interview next class. 教学反思 In this class, through situational introduction and hierarchical activities, students can generally master the vocabulary for describing friends' qualities and use the target sentence patterns in dialogues. The highlights of this class are as follows: Interesting Activities: Activities like using body language to understand vocabulary and the debate on the most important friendship quality effectively arouse students' enthusiasm and participation. Hierarchical Teaching: The vocabulary practice gradually increases in difficulty, from simple matching to sentence - making, which caters to students of different levels. However, there are also some areas for improvement. For example, in the pair work, some students may still have difficulty expressing their complex ideas. In future teaching, more scaffolding and guidance can be provided. Also, in the next class, more cross - cultural cases can be introduced, such as the fact that Westerners may attach more importance to humor in friendship, while Easterners may emphasize loyalty more. This can further enrich students' understanding of friendship from a cultural perspective. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
