教学过程
1. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Show students some beautiful pictures of outdoor activities, such as camping in the forest, hiking in the mountains, and birdwatching by the lake.
Ask students: “What outdoor activities can you see in the pictures? Have you ever taken part in any of these activities? How did you feel?” Encourage students to share their experiences briefly.
2. Presentation (12 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Teach new words and phrases related to outdoor activities. Use pictures and real - object demonstrations (if possible) to help students understand. For example, show a picture of a tent and teach “tent” and “put up a tent”. Let students repeat the words and phrases several times to strengthen memory.
Ask students to read the new words and phrases in pairs, and correct their pronunciations if necessary.
Text Learning
Activity A: Camping Advertisement
Let students read the camping advertisement quickly and answer the question: “Why do people like camping?”
Explain the key sentences in the advertisement, such as “Camping will help you keep fit and make you happy!” and “The fresh air and camping activities can be good for your body and mind.” Help students understand the benefits of camping.
Activity B: Radio Interview
Play the recording of the radio interview about two young campers. Ask students to listen carefully and take notes on camping preparations and safety precautions.
After listening, check students' notes and have a class discussion. Summarize the main points: what to bring (tent, sleeping bags, food, etc.), safety tips (put out the campfire completely, be careful with wildlife, etc.).
Activity C: Dialogue about Birdwatching Advice
Let two students read the dialogue about seeking advice on birdwatching in front of the class.
Analyze the sentence patterns for seeking and giving advice in the dialogue. For example, “What should I take when I go birdwatching?” “You should take binoculars and some water.”
Have students practice making similar dialogues in pairs. Give them some situations, such as asking for advice on going hiking or cycling.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Listening Practice
Play another short recording about an outdoor activity (for example, a hiking trip). Set some listening comprehension questions, such as “When did they start the hiking? What difficulties did they meet?”
Let students listen and answer the questions. Check the answers together.
Speaking Practice
Divide students into groups of four. Each group chooses an outdoor activity they like. They need to discuss the preparations, possible problems and solutions, and safety precautions for this activity.
Each group sends a representative to report their discussion results to the class. Other groups can ask questions or give suggestions.
4. Production (8 minutes)
Writing Practice
Refer to Simon's hiking experience outline and diary in Activity D. Guide students to write a diary about their own outdoor activity experiences. Remind them to use the learned vocabulary, phrases and sentence patterns, and pay attention to the correct use of tenses.
Walk around the classroom and offer help and guidance to students when they are writing.
After students finish writing, ask them to exchange their diaries with their partners. They read each other's diaries and give some simple comments, such as “I like your description of the scenery. It's very vivid.” or “You made a small grammar mistake here. You should use the past tense.”
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Review the key vocabulary, phrases and sentence patterns of this class with students. Summarize the important points about outdoor activities, such as preparations, safety, and how to describe experiences.
Emphasize the importance of outdoor activities for our health and life.
Homework
Ask students to rewrite their diaries according to their partners' comments and make them more perfect.
Let students search for more information about their favorite outdoor activities on the Internet or in books, and share it with the class next time.
教学反思
After this class, generally, students showed great interest in the topic of outdoor activities. The use of pictures, recordings and group work effectively mobilized students' enthusiasm for participation. Most students could master the new vocabulary and sentence patterns, and were able to describe simple outdoor activity experiences in writing.
However, there were also some problems. In the group discussion, some students were too shy to express their opinions actively. In the future, more encouragement and guidance should be given to these students to help them overcome their shyness. Also, in the writing practice, some students still made grammar mistakes, especially in the use of tenses. This indicates that more grammar exercises related to real - life situations are needed in the following classes to strengthen students' understanding and application ability.
