Unit 7 Be wise with money-Assessment Unit 7 “Be wise with money” of the 2024 Yilin English textbook for Grade 7 focuses on the theme of financial literacy. Through various reading materials, listening exercises, speaking tasks, and writing activities, students are introduced to the concepts related to money management, such as making a budget, understanding income and expenses, and the importance of saving money. The unit is designed to not only enhance students’ English language skills but also cultivate their awareness of rational financial management in daily life. 教学目标 Students will be able to master the key vocabulary related to money and financial management, such as “budget”, “income”, “expense”, “save”, “spend”, etc. They can understand and use the target grammar structures, including how to talk about amounts of money, comparisons of prices, and simple expressions of financial calculations. Comprehend the reading passages about different financial situations and extract relevant information accurately. 教学重难点 A. Key Points Key vocabulary and expressions related to money and financial management. The grammar structures used to describe and discuss money - related information. The reading comprehension of texts about financial themes, and how to summarize and analyze the main ideas. B. Difficult Points Helping students understand some abstract financial concepts, such as making a reasonable budget and the long - term benefits of saving money. Guiding students to apply the learned language knowledge to real - life situations to solve practical financial problems. Cultivating students’ critical thinking ability in evaluating different financial management methods. A. Vocabulary Nouns: budget, income, expense, savings, debt, coin, note, wallet, purse, price, cost, discount, tax, tip, etc. Verbs: save, spend, earn, borrow, lend, budget, calculate, afford, etc. Adjectives and Adverbs: expensive, cheap, reasonable, wisely, etc. B. Grammar Expressions of amounts of money: Use “How much...?” to ask about the price of something. For example, “How much is this book?” “It’s 20 yuan.” Comparisons of prices: Use “more expensive/cheaper than...” to compare the prices of different items. For example, “This dress is more expensive than that one.” Simple calculations related to money: Learn to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to calculate total cost, change, etc. For example, “If you buy two pens at 5 yuan each, you need to pay 10 yuan in total.” C. Functional Expressions Expressing opinions on money: “I think it’s important to save money.” “In my opinion, we should be careful when spending money.” Making suggestions for financial management: “You could make a budget to control your expenses.” “Why not save a little money every week?” 教学过程 A. Lead - in (5 minutes) Show some pictures of different shopping scenes, such as a supermarket, a clothing store, and a bookstore. Ask students: “What can you see in these pictures? What do people usually do in these places?” Guide students to think about the topic of spending money. Then, ask a few students to share their experiences of shopping. For example, “What did you buy last time you went shopping? How much did you spend?” B. Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes) Present the new vocabulary related to money and financial management one by one on the PPT. For each word, show its meaning, pronunciation, and an example sentence. For example, for the word “budget”, show the sentence “I need to make a budget for my monthly expenses.” After presenting all the words, play a word - matching game. Divide the words into two columns on the PPT, one with English words and the other with Chinese meanings. Ask students to match them as quickly as possible. Check the answers together. Then, ask students to read the words aloud several times to practice pronunciation. C. Listening (10 minutes) Tell students they will listen to a conversation between two friends about their weekend shopping. First, let them look at the multiple - choice questions on the textbook or handout, which are related to the key information in the conversation, such as what they bought, how much they spent, etc. Play the recording for the first time. Students listen carefully and try to get a general idea of the conversation. Play the recording again. This time, students listen and choose the correct answers to the questions. Check the answers with the whole class. Play the recording one more time if necessary, and pause at the key points to help students understand. D. Reading (10 minutes) Present a short reading passage about making a budget on the PPT. Ask students to skim the passage quickly and answer the question: “What is the main idea of this passage?” Then, ask students to read the passage carefully again. This time, they need to underline the important information, such as the steps of making a budget and some tips for saving money. After reading, organize a group discussion. Divide students into groups of four. Each group discusses the following questions: “Do you think making a budget is important? Why or why not? Have you ever made a budget? Share your experiences with your group members.” Ask some groups to report their discussion results to the whole class. E. Speaking (10 minutes) Set up a speaking task. Suppose students are going on a school trip. They need to plan their expenses. Divide students into pairs. Each pair makes a list of things they need to buy for the trip and estimates how much money they will spend on each item. Provide some useful expressions on the PPT, such as “We need to buy...”, “The cost of... is about...”, “I think we should budget... for...” Give students 5 minutes to discuss and make their plans. Then, ask several pairs to come to the front of the class and share their plans with the others. The rest of the students can ask questions or give suggestions. F. Summary and Homework (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key points of this class, including the new vocabulary, grammar, and the main ideas of the listening and reading materials. Ask students to recall what they have learned. Homework: Ask students to write a short passage about their own monthly budget. They need to list their income (such as pocket money) and expenses (such as buying snacks, stationery, etc.). Encourage students to interview their parents about the family’s monthly expenses and make a simple report next class. 教学反思 After teaching this unit, I need to reflect on several aspects. In terms of teaching methods, the use of pictures, games, and real - life scenarios in the lead - in and vocabulary presentation stages effectively attracted students’ attention and made the learning process more interesting. However, during the listening and reading activities, some students still had difficulty in understanding long sentences and complex information. Maybe I should provide more pre - listening and pre - reading guidance, such as explaining some key words and background knowledge in advance. In the speaking activity, most students were actively involved, but there was a big gap between the stronger and weaker students. For the next class, I should consider providing more differentiated tasks to meet the needs of different students. Regarding the achievement of teaching objectives, students have basically mastered the key vocabulary and grammar related to money. But in terms of cultivating students’ awareness of being wise with money, more real - life examples and in - depth discussions might be needed to truly change their attitudes and behaviors in financial management. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
