教学过程
Step 1: Warming - up (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of different people wearing various styles of clothes on the PPT, including casual wear, formal wear, and traditional clothes from different cultures.
Ask students: "What can you see in these pictures? What kind of clothes are they wearing?" Encourage students to answer freely.
Lead in the topic of this class: "Today, we are going to talk more about clothes and styles."
Step 2: Pre - listening (8 minutes)
Present new vocabulary about clothes and styles on the PPT, explain their meanings and pronunciations. For example, when teaching "casual", show some pictures of people in casual clothes like jeans and T - shirts, and say: "Casual clothes are comfortable and not too formal. We often wear them in our daily life, just like what you see in these pictures."
Divide students into pairs. Let them practice reading the new words to each other and correct their pronunciations.
Ask students to look at the pictures in Part A of the textbook. Say: "Look at these pictures. They show different people getting dressed for different occasions. Before listening, discuss with your partner what occasion each picture might be." Give students 2 - 3 minutes to discuss.
Step 3: Listening (10 minutes)
Play the recording of Part A for the first time. Ask students to listen carefully and match the people with the occasions.
Check the answers with the whole class.
Play the recording again. This time, ask students to listen and fill in the blanks in the sentences provided in the textbook. For example, "Sandy is going to a _______. She is wearing a _______ and a pair of _______."
Check the answers again and ask some students to read out the complete sentences.
Step 4: Reading and Speaking (12 minutes)
Let students read the passage in Part B silently. While they are reading, ask them to find out the main idea of each paragraph and the different clothing styles mentioned.
After reading, divide students into groups of four. Ask each group to discuss the following questions: "What are the features of each clothing style mentioned in the passage? Which style do you like best and why?" Give each group 3 - 4 minutes to discuss.
Invite some groups to share their discussions with the whole class. Encourage other students to ask questions or express different opinions.
Conduct a speaking activity. Set a situation: "Suppose you are going to a special event, such as a school dance or a family dinner. What kind of clothes will you choose? Why?" Ask several students to stand up and share their ideas in front of the class.
Step 5: Writing (8 minutes)
Guide students to write a short passage about their favorite clothing style. Remind them to include the following information: What is your favorite clothing style? What kind of clothes are in this style? Why do you like it?
Give students 5 minutes to write. Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance when necessary.
After students finish writing, ask them to exchange their passages with their partners. Let them read each other's works and give some simple comments, such as "I like your description of the clothes. It's very vivid." or "You can add more reasons why you like this style."
Select some students' passages and show them on the PPT. Read them aloud to the class and give some comprehensive comments.
Step 6: Summary and Homework (2 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this class, including new vocabulary, sentence patterns, and the understanding of different clothing styles.
Assign homework: Ask students to design their own clothing style and draw a picture of it. Then write a short passage (about 80 - 100 words) to introduce their design, including the features of the clothes and why they design it like this.
教学反思
After this class, I think the following aspects are worthy of reflection. Firstly, in the warming - up part, the pictures shown successfully attracted students' attention and aroused their interest in the topic. However, the time for students to express their initial ideas could be extended a little bit to make them more actively involved. Secondly, during the listening practice, some students still had difficulty in catching the key information, especially when the speakers spoke a little fast. In the future, more listening - skills training, such as predicting the content before listening and focusing on key words, should be provided. Thirdly, in the group discussion and speaking activities, most students were willing to share their opinions, but a few shy students participated less. I need to find more effective ways to encourage these students to express themselves. Fourthly, for the writing part, some students had problems in using correct grammar and vocabulary to express their ideas. More writing - guidance in class and after - class writing exercises are necessary to improve their writing ability. Overall, through this class, students have had a basic understanding of different clothing styles and can express their own preferences to a certain extent. But there is still room for improvement in teaching methods and students' language skills training.
