Unit 3 Food matters-Reflection This unit, "Food matters", is centered around the significance of food. It encompasses various aspects such as the nutritional value of different foods, healthy eating habits, and the cultural connotations associated with food. Through a series of texts, discussions, and activities, students will explore how food impacts our health, our daily lives, and different cultures around the world. This "Reflection" class serves as a summary and review of the entire unit, aiming to help students consolidate what they have learned and enhance their understanding of the unit's key concepts. 教学目标 Students will be able to review and master the key vocabulary related to food, such as names of different foods (e.g., dumpling, hamburger, salad, etc.), food groups (vegetables, fruits, meats, grains), and words related to nutrition (nutritious, vitamin, mineral, etc.). Students can recall and understand the important phrases and sentence patterns learned in this unit, like "be good for", "be bad for", "It's a good idea to...", "We should/shouldn't...", and use them correctly in sentences. Review and clarify the grammar points involved, especially the use of linking verbs (look, taste, smell, feel, sound) when describing food. 教学重难点 Review and reinforce the key vocabulary and sentence patterns related to food and health, ensuring students' proficiency in using them. Enable students to describe food in detail, including its appearance, taste, smell, and nutritional value, using appropriate language. Help students understand and summarize the relationship between food and various aspects such as health, culture, and daily life. 1 Vocabulary Food names: dumpling, hamburger, salad, noodle, vegetable (tomato, potato, carrot, etc.), fruit (apple, banana, orange, etc.), meat (beef, pork, chicken, etc.), grain (rice, wheat, corn, etc.), dessert (cake, ice - cream, pudding, etc.) Food - related adjectives: healthy, unhealthy, nutritious, delicious, fresh, junk Nutrition - related words: vitamin (A, C, D, etc.), mineral (calcium, iron, zinc, etc.), protein, fat, carbohydrate 2 Phrases and Sentence Patterns Phrases: be good for, be bad for, be rich in, a balanced diet, too much/many, a little/few, stay healthy, keep fit Sentence Patterns: It's + adj. + (for sb.) + to do sth. (It's important for us to eat a balanced diet.) We should/shouldn't + do sth. (We should eat more fruits and vegetables. We shouldn't eat too much junk food.) How/What about + doing sth. (How about having a salad for lunch?) Linking verbs: Sth. looks/smells/tastes/feels/sounds + adj. (The cake looks delicious. The soup smells good.) 3 Grammar Linking verbs: Focus on the usage of linking verbs (look, taste, smell, feel, sound) to describe the state or quality of food. They are followed by adjectives rather than adverbs. For example, "The bread tastes soft." instead of "The bread tastes softly.. 教学过程 1 Warming - up (5 minutes) Activity: Show some pictures of different kinds of food on the PPT, including healthy food like fruits and vegetables, and unhealthy food like hamburgers and fried chicken. Then ask students some simple questions: "What can you see in the pictures?", "Do you like these foods?", "Are they healthy or unhealthy?" Purpose: This activity can quickly arouse students' interest and recall their prior knowledge about food, getting them ready for the following review content. 2 Vocabulary Review (10 minutes) Word - guessing game: Divide the class into several groups. Describe a food word in English without saying the word itself. For example, for "dumpling", you can say "It is a kind of Chinese food. People usually eat it during festivals. It is made of dough and has different fillings inside." The first group to guess the word correctly gets a point. Vocabulary competition: Show a list of food - related words on the PPT for 30 seconds. Then ask students to write down as many words as they can remember in one minute. The student who writes the most correct words wins. Purpose: These activities can help students review and consolidate the food - related vocabulary in a fun way, enhancing their memory and vocabulary - building ability. 3 Phrase and Sentence Pattern Review (10 minutes) Sentence making: Write some phrases on the blackboard, such as "be good for", "be bad for", "too much". Ask students to make sentences with these phrases. For example, for "be good for", a student can say "Eating fruits is good for our health." Invite several students to share their sentences. Dialogue practice: Divide students into pairs. Give each pair a topic related to food, like "Discuss your favorite food and why you like it" or "Give each other advice on healthy eating". Students should use the learned sentence patterns in their dialogues. After a few minutes of practice, ask some pairs to come to the front of the class and act out their dialogues. Purpose: Through sentence making and dialogue practice, students can review and master the important phrases and sentence patterns, and improve their ability to use them in context. 4 Grammar Review (5 minutes) Explanation and example: Briefly review the usage of linking verbs on the PPT. Show some examples like "The flowers look beautiful." "The music sounds wonderful." "The milk smells sour." and explain that linking verbs connect the subject with an adjective that describes it. Exercise: Give students some sentences with blanks. They need to fill in the blanks with the correct form of linking verbs. For example, "The dish ____ (taste) delicious." "The silk ____ (feel) soft." After they finish, check the answers together. Purpose: This part helps students clarify the grammar point of linking verbs, ensuring they can use them correctly when describing food. 5 Group Discussion and Presentation (10 minutes) Grouping: Divide students into groups of 4 - Assign each group one of the following topics: The importance of a balanced diet. The differences in food cultures between China and another country. How to develop healthy eating habits. Discussion: Each group discusses their assigned topic for 5 minutes. They should use the knowledge they have learned in this unit, including vocabulary, sentence patterns, and ideas about food. Encourage them to take notes during the discussion. Presentation: Each group selects a representative to present their discussion results to the whole class. The presentation should last about 2 - 3 minutes. After each presentation, other students can ask questions or give comments. Purpose: Group discussion and presentation can train students' cooperation ability, critical thinking ability, and oral expression ability. They can also further understand the relationship between food and different aspects through communication and sharing. 6 Summary and Homework Assignment (5 minutes) Summary: Summarize the key points of this class, including the reviewed vocabulary, sentence patterns, grammar, and the main ideas discussed in the group work. Emphasize the importance of healthy eating and understanding food cultures. Homework assignment: Ask students to write a short passage about their own eating habits. They should mention what they usually eat, whether their diet is healthy or not, and how they can improve it. The passage should be at least 80 words. Let students collect more information about a special food from a foreign country and share it with the class next time. Purpose: The summary helps students review and strengthen what they have learned in this class. The homework assignment can further consolidate their knowledge and improve their writing and information - collecting abilities. 教学反思 Positive aspects: The warming - up activity with pictures effectively attracted students' attention at the beginning of the class, making them actively involved in the subsequent learning process. The vocabulary review games, such as word - guessing and vocabulary competition, created a lively and competitive atmosphere, which significantly enhanced students' enthusiasm for learning vocabulary. The group discussion and presentation part provided students with a good opportunity to communicate and cooperate in English. They actively expressed their opinions and listened to others, which not only improved their language skills but also their teamwork and critical thinking abilities. Problems and improvements: During the dialogue practice, some students still had difficulty using the learned sentence patterns fluently. In the future, more in - class practice time and more guidance on sentence construction can be provided. For example, give more model dialogues and let students imitate and practice more. When students were presenting their group discussion results, some representatives were a bit nervous and their expressions were not very smooth. Next time, more time can be given for groups to prepare their presentations, and students can be trained on presentation skills in advance, such as how to make eye contact with the audience and how to use appropriate body language. In terms of grammar review, although the exercise was helpful, some students still seemed confused about the usage of linking verbs. Maybe more vivid examples and real - life situations can be used to explain this grammar point, and more follow - up exercises can be designed to strengthen students' understanding. 2 / 37 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
