In Shenzhen, you can see some special “police officers” on the streets. They are humanoid robots (仿真机器人) called PM01. These robots work with “police officers” to make our city safer. Engine AI, a company started in 2023 in Shenzhen, made them. It is part of China’s plan to use technology in everyday life.
The PM01 robots are 1.38 meters tall and weigh 40 kilograms. They can share information with real police, shake hands with people on the street, and wave to crowds. Thanks to smart algorithms (运算法则), they can move smoothly, like walking naturally or even doing front flips. Each robot costs 88,000 yuan, which is affordable for the police to use.
The PM01 uses LiDAR technology to “see” its surroundings and move around busy streets. There is a screen on its chest to show information and “eye-like” lights that make it look friendly. These features help the robot do its job well and make people trust it.
People have different opinions about these robots. Some like their human-like skills, while others worry that they might replace people’s jobs or cause privacy problems. As China continues to develop new robots, it remains to be seen whether they will become a big part of our daily life or just a special tool.

B. To improve public safety and work with the police.

On a big piece of land in Britain, tall trees reach high into the sky. Animals run freely. Birds sing sweet songs everywhere, and the animals have comfortable houses to live in.
This 3,500-acre (英亩) farmland, known as Knepp, is the fruitful result of Burrell and Isabella, owners of the land. At first, it was used for farming in the last century. However, modern farming practices harmed the land and made it hard for animals to survive. The couple realized the serious situation and decided to make a change.
In 2000, the couple started bringing local animals and plants back and let nature take its course without human activities. They introduced old, longhorn cows and Tamworth pigs. All of them were old friends of the land. They allowed the environment and everything in it to develop naturally on its own. Soon, the land drew many other birds and insect species.
More surprisingly, the couple’s efforts also helped save endangered animals. Knepp has become a safe home for special butterflies, birds, and many other animals. Compared to the 1960s, the numbers of many bird species have reduced by 90% in the UK. But such birds are living well at Knepp. “We are probably the only place in Britain where the number of turtle doves (斑鸠) is actually increasing,” said Isabella.
The change of Knepp is surprising. Now it’s a symbol of hope and green living.
16. What is the land like now?
A. Ugly. B. Lonely. C. Lively. D. Deadly.
17. What made it hard for the animals to live in Knepp at first?
A. Fruit picking B. Human housing. C. Local hunting. D. Modern farming.
18. What does the underlined phrase “take its course” probably mean?
A. Develop freely. B. Work closely. C. Change hugely. D. Disappear slowly.
19. Why does the writer give the example of turtle doves?
A. To ask for help. B. To provide advice.
C. To give the reason. D. To prove the effect.
20. What is the text mainly about?
A. History of Knepp. B. Bringing Nature Back.
C. Environment in the UK. D. Saving Endangered Animals.
【答案】16. C 17. D 18. A 19. D 20. B

【19题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“We are probably the only place in Britain where the number of turtle doves (斑鸠) is actually increasing”可知,在英国,Knepp可能是唯一一个斑鸠数量确实在增加的地方。由此推知,斑鸠的例子是为了证明生态恢复的效果。故选D。

The miner was about to give it all up, right at the point when, if he were to examine just one more stone—just one more—he would find his emerald. Since the miner gave up everything to follow his dream, the old man decided to use his power. He changed himself into a stone that rolled to the miner’s foot. Many of us are taught from an early age to learn from our mistakes. ____26____ The short answer is “yes” and failure can teach us something. But learning from our mistakes is, in fact, very hard because we don’t like to fail. ____27____ For example, we may give up a job easily, telling ourselves we don’t care whether we succeed, or finding mistakes with the job itself.
This is self-protection, according to a professor at the Norwegian School of Economics. Most of us want to think of ourselves as excellent, so failure may be bad for our self-confidence.
Luckily, there are studies to suggest that there are some methods of helping us deal with the bad feelings around failure.
____28____ Instead of asking “Why did I fail?” we could ask “Why did Sam fail?” for example. Many studies show that using a third-person perspective helps to reduce our bad feelings. It allows us to look at failure more positively.
The second method is to offer advice to others who may be in the same situation. ____29____ Both adults and children were asked to give advice based on their own failures. Professors found that helping others could help people understand their experience and what they had learned.
____30____ But it now seems that we should be saying, “Failure again. Fail more wisely.” Failure can’t be avoided in life. However, we may find the road to success easily by learning.
A. But is this actually true?
B. A famous writer once said, “Fail again. Fail better.”
C. Why is it so important for us to learn from mistakes?
D. One of them is to use a third-person perspective.
E. This method led to better levels of success in the test groups.
F. It doesn’t feel good, so we respond to failure in emotional ways.

11. What is the main purpose of using PM01 robots?
A. To replace Shenzhen real police officers completely.
B. To improve public safety and work with the police.
C. To help people who get lost find their way home.
D. To make people’s everyday life more colorful.

A. Because they can speak many human languages well.
B. Because they have friendly-looking “eye-like” lights.
C. Because they are small enough to be carried around.
D. Because they can solve all kinds of problems for us.
14. Why do some people worry about the PM01 robots?
A. They are not smart enough to help in busy streets.
B. They are unable to understand human languages.
C. They may cause job losses or privacy problems.
D. They are too expensive for governments to use.
15. What is the best title for this passage?

(文章B)

For five years, he had been mining in a certain river, and had examined hundreds of thousands of stones looking for an emerald. The miner was about to give it all up, right at the point when, if he were to examine just one more stone—just one more—he would find his emerald. Since the miner gave up everything to follow his dream, the old man decided to use his power. He changed himself into a stone that rolled to the miner’s foot. 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分)
阅读下面短文,并从下列的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。
