I. Teaching Objectives
1. Knowledge Objectives
Students will master vocabulary for city names and features (Ice City, Mountain City, Flower City, Spring City, ice and snow, temperature, snowmen, skating, skiing) and winter - related descriptions.
Students will be able to understand the passage about winter in Harbin, judge true/false, complete mind maps and conversations, and discuss their city’s specialties.
2. Ability Objectives
Improve reading and writing skills: Extract information from the passage to judge statements, complete mind maps, and fill in conversations.
Enhance speaking and collaborative skills: Discuss city specialties in groups, applying language to season - and city - related communication.
3. Affective Objectives
Cultivate the awareness of appreciating different cities’ winter features, and enhance the ability to describe local characteristics and share cultural experiences.

III. Teaching Procedures (45 Minutes)
Step 1: Warm - up & Lead - in (5 Minutes)
Activity 1: City Feature Guessing
Show city pictures (Harbin, Kunming, etc.), ask “What’s the special name of this city? Why is it called that?” to activate city - feature vocabulary.
Step 2: Vocabulary & Passage Preparation (10 Minutes)
Activity 1: City - Feature Matching
Do textbook “Match each city with its name” (Exercise 1). Students match cities to Ice City, Mountain City etc., practicing vocabulary.
Activity 2: Winter - Vocabulary Introduction
Teach winter - related words (temperature, skating, skiing) using the passage context, explaining meanings and pronunciations.
Step 3: Reading & Passage Understanding (12 Minutes)
Activity 1: Harbin Winter Passage Reading
Do textbook “Read the passage and write true (T) or false (F)” (Exercise 2). Students read about winter in Harbin, then judge statements about winter duration (F) and winter activities (T), reinforcing comprehension.
Activity 2: Key Information Extraction

Do textbook “Read the passage again and complete the mind map” (Exercise 3). Students fill in mind - map blanks about Harbin winter (long and cold, make snowmen, Ice and Snow Festival), practicing organization.
Activity 2: Conversation Completion
Do textbook “Read and complete the conversation” (Exercise 4). Students fill in dialogue blanks with “In winter, Harbin turns into a world of ice and snow. The temperature can drop to thirty degrees below zero.”, enhancing communication skills.
Step 5: Speaking & Group Discussion (5 Minutes)
Activity 1: City Specialty Talk

Step 6: Summary & Homework (3 Minutes)
Summary: Recap city - feature and winter - related vocabulary, passage details, and conversation patterns.
Homework:

IV. Assessment
