Unit 2 Learning English is fun! Lesson 3 教学设计 I. Teaching Objectives 1. Knowledge Objectives Students will master food - related vocabulary (dumplings, noodles, milk, chicken, potatoes, rice, juice, fish, vegetables, cabbages, eggplants, mushrooms, tofu). Students will be able to understand conversations about food words and hot pot ingredients, use quantifiers (a/an, one, two/three…, some) with food words, and create dialogues about hot pot preferences. 2. Ability Objectives Improve listening and reading skills: Extract food words from conversations, and complete passages and mind maps. Enhance speaking and writing skills: Use food vocabulary and quantifiers to discuss hot pot ingredients, applying language to real - life food - related communication. 3. Affective Objectives Cultivate interest in exploring the connection between English food words and Chinese culture, and enhance cooperation awareness through pair and group work. II. Language Knowledge 1. Key Vocabulary & Phrases Food words: dumplings, noodles, milk, chicken, potatoes, rice, juice, fish, vegetables, cabbages, eggplants, mushrooms, tofu Quantifiers: a/an, one, two/three…, some Conversation phrases: “What would you like for hot pot?” “I would like some…”, “look like” 2. Key Sentence Patterns Food preference: “What would you like for hot pot? I would like some vegetables and meat.” Quantifier use: “Let’s take some cabbages. Do we need an eggplant?” Word - meaning discussion: “Why does eggplant have ‘egg’ in it? Maybe it looks like a big egg.” 3. Key and Challenging Points Key Points: Master food - related vocabulary and quantifiers; understand and create conversations about hot pot ingredients. Challenging Points: Correctly use quantifiers with different food words; fluently discuss the interesting connections of food words. III. Teaching Procedures (45 Minutes) Step 1: Warm - up & Lead - in (5 Minutes) Activity 1: Food Picture Guessing Show pictures of food (dumplings, noodles, etc.). Let students guess the English words, activating food - related vocabulary. Step 2: Listening & Vocabulary Learning (10 Minutes) Activity 1: Food Word Listening Do textbook “Listen to the conversation and tick the food words you hear” (Exercise 1). Play the audio, students tick food words, then practice saying them. Activity 2: Vocabulary Expansion Teach additional food words from the conversation (cabbages, eggplants, mushrooms, tofu), and explain their meanings and pronunciations. Step 3: Reading & Conversation Understanding (12 Minutes) Activity 1: Conversation Reading Do textbook “Read the conversation and underline the interesting food words” (Exercise 2). Students read the conversation between Li Ming and Jack, underline words like eggplant, mushrooms, vegetables, and discuss why they are interesting. Activity 2: Key Information Extraction Ask questions like “What ingredients does Jack want for hot pot? Why does Li Ming think eggplant is interesting?” Guide students to retell the conversation, reinforcing understanding of food - word connections. Step 4: Quantifier & Writing Practice (10 Minutes) Activity 1: Quantifier Application Do textbook “Read the words in the box. Brainstorm more food words” (Exercise 4). Students use quantifiers (a/an, some) to classify food words (e.g., an eggplant, some cabbages), then add more food words to the list. Activity 2: Passage Completion Do textbook “Read the conversation again and complete the passage” (Exercise 3). Students fill in the passage with food words and quantifiers, focusing on correct usage. Step 5: Speaking & Extension (5 Minutes) Activity 1: Hot Pot Dialogue Do textbook “What would you like for hot pot? Have a conversation with your partner” (Exercise 5). Homework: Write a short dialogue about hot pot ingredients, using at least 5 food words and 3 quantifiers. Find 2 more English food words with interesting Chinese connections and share them next class. IV. Assessment In - class: Check listening comprehension (food - word ticking), reading understanding (passage completion), and speaking fluency (dialogue creation). Homework: Evaluate the completeness of the dialogue and the quality of found food - word connections. V. Design Purpose Skill Integration: Combine listening (food - word extraction), reading (conversation understanding), writing (passage and dialogue creation), and speaking (hot pot discussion) to master food - related language. Real - life Application: Use hot pot ingredient discussion to apply language to food - culture communication. VI. Blackboard Design Unit 2 Learning English is fun!
