It is also the birthplace of various painting movements and has been home to the world's most influential painters. Claude Monet Claude Monet started the Impressionist movement that completely changed the face of French painting in the second half of the 19th century. He first started out with selling charcoal pictures in Paris and started painting with oil after meeting Eugene Boudin. Eugene, who taught him to use oil paints, also encouraged him to paint outdoors. Later he mastered the technique and painted with his own style. Vincent van Gogh Vincent van Gogh was a post-Impressionist French painter of Dutch origin, whose work had a huge influence on the 20th century art. His early works consisted more of somber(忧伤的)earth tones. However, influenced by Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, and Bernard, he adopted brighter colors in his works, started experimenting with various techniques and formed his own one. Having produced more than 2,000 works of art, the artist sold only one painting during his lifetime-The Red Vineyard at Arles. Edouard Manet As one of the first artists to paint modern life, he began to paint in his own style, maintaining some of Couture's technique like the use of thick lines and dark colors. He was greatly influenced by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot, which can be seen in his use of light shades. Most of his paintings show scenes from daily life on the streets of Paris. Camille Pissarro In his early years, Pissarro painted scenes of rivers or paths from memory. After meeting Paul Cezanne, who shared his interest of painting in a more realistic style, he changed his course to Impressionism. During his career, he experimented with various styles and formed his own one. 21. Who was one of the founders of the Impressionist movement? A. Claude Monet. B. Vincent van Gogh. C. Edouard Manet. D. Camille Pissarro. 22. How do we know Edouard Manet was influenced by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot? A. From his use of thick lines. B. From his use of dark colors. C. From his use of light shades. D. From his paintings about daily life. 23. What did the four painters have in common? A. They were all French origin. B. They all learned to paint outdoors. C. They were all taught by famous artists. D. They all formed their own painting styles. B That morning, I dropped our eldest at kindergarten and returned home to let our two younger children play while I worked on my medical report. It was wonderful, but it hit me that my career in hospital wasn’t making a difference in anyone’s life. I needed something that would stretch my limits and push me to grow. My career enabled me to work from home. I could work from home, and become a foster (领养) mother, providing safety for a child who needed it desperately. On Monday morning, I picked up the phone and dialed the number I had googled for the nearest Department of Children’ Services. The man on the other end was receptive to my questions and explained the next step of training, involving eight weeks of classes designed to prepare and educate foster parents. We continued through all the classes, the home visits, background checks, and seemingly endless steps. Five long months after we were approved the phone rang. In the middle of the night, I woke my husband and rushed to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital--Our placement was waiting for us in the emergency room, sick and lack of nutrition. It didn’t take long for us to realize the full depth of her suffering. Six months later, her half-brother came to us by our request. We now had five children under our care. On August 12, 2016, our family of seven walked into a small courtroom. The children’s lawyer and social worker were there. With just a few words, our adoption was finalized. These two amazing children weren’t going home, because they were already home. We are their forever family, and they are our forever children. We may not be able to change the entire world, but we have changed the world entirely for our new children. 24. How did the author feel about her hospital work? A. Unusually demanding. B. Lacking in motivation. C. Filled with challenges. D. Packed with chances. 25. What led the author to decide to adopt children? A. She wanted to make a difference to other people. B. She felt sympathetic for the abused children she knew. C. She felt confident about her ability to raise children. D. She experienced training to raise children properly. 26. What does the underlined word “placement” in Para. 3 refer to? A. The child to be adopted. B. The need to get trained. C. The approval of adoption. D. The official at the hospital. 27. Why did the author appear at the courtroom? A. To put the adopted kids elsewhere. B. To receive another adopted child. C. To begin the kids’ adoption in her home. D. To make the adoption officially legal. C As a boy growing up in India, I had longed to travel abroad. I used to listen to the stories my father would tell me about his stay in Canada and tours to Europe in the 1970s, with great interest. My big moment finally came in the summer of 1998 when I was able to accompany my parents to Europe where my father was to attend a meeting. We planned to travel to Belgium, Netherlands and West Germany. I have clear memories even today of going to Mumbai airport at night all excited about finally going abroad. I had heard several great things about Lufthansa till then but now I finally got to experience them first hand, during the flight to Frankfurt. We flew business class and even today I can remember the excellent service by the Lufthansa crew (工作人员). The flight was really smooth and thoroughly enjoyable, even for someone like me, who is especially afraid of flying. After spending almost two weeks in Europe, we took the Lufthansa airport express from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt airport for our return. What a journey that was! All along the Rhine (莱茵河), it was simply an unforgettable experience. I had a sad feeling on the flight back to Mumbai as it marked the end of a wonderful vacation, but the Lufthansa crew members were able to change it into a most enjoyable experience yet again, with the quality of their service. Being the first airline to take me abroad, Lufthansa will always hold a special place in my heart. Even today, I continue to enjoy flights on Lufthansa and simply cannot dream of choosing any other airline. Flying, in general, for me, has always been a terrible and painful experience. Flying on Lufthansa, however, is something I always have and will always look forward to. 28. What does the author’s big moment refer to? A. Travelling abroad. B. Attending a meeting. C. Listening to a story. D. Accompanying his parents. 29. What is the author’s attitude towards Lufthansa crew’s service? A. Depressed. B. Satisfied. C. Doubtful. D. Critical. 30. Which is the start of the author’s return flight? A. Frankfurt. B. Mumbai. C. Dusseldorf. D. Canada. 31. What is the text mainly about? A. Beautiful memories about Europe. B. Dreamed family flying. C. An important flight travel. D. Unforgettable experiences on Lufthansa. D Kids and science seem to be made for each other! The basic science is a combination of thought and experiment called the scientific method. It’s where you start with an idea, create a way to prove or disprove your idea, and show what you learned based on facts. Learning to follow this process helps you think logically and carefully. These important thinking skills can be used in many areas of study. To give a child practice with these thinking skills is like giving vitamins to a developing mind. One of the greatest things we can teach our children is to love learning. Learning science is a great way to do so. Children are easy to be interested in science. Because much of science is hands-on, it attracts most children. Nothing makes a child sit up and take notice like the “WOW!” of a great science showing. Science opens doors to many subjects at school. Building love for science can be helpful in other areas of study. For example, one cannot love science for very long without becoming good at its language-math! So science encourages children to study math. An interest in science is an interest in how things were once understood compared to how they are understood now. Thus studying science lends itself easily to studying history. And after you do an experiment, you need to write a lab report. Therefore, writing becomes an important part of science. Science is the basic thing for much of our life. The science of farming shows how our food is produced; biomedical science keeps us healthy; even our beds these days are designed according to scientific facts. We almost eat, sleep and breathe with the help of science! When we prepare the next generation of voters, creators and policy makers, it is important to make sure they are not only comfortable but also good at science. 32. According to Paragraph 2, what does learning the scientific method mean to kids? A. Learning to do experiments. B. Learning many areas of study. C Helping them develop thinking skills. D. Refusing any ideas that are not logical. 33. Which of the following statements would the author agree with? A. Science is too difficult for children. B. Children usually consider science boring. C. Science can arouse children's interest in learning. D. Children who are careless shouldn't learn science. 34. What happens to a child who works hard at science at school? A. He usually has no time for other subjects. B. He usually loses interest in other activities. C. He is usually bad at such subjects like history. D. He is likely to learn many other subjects well. 35. What would be the best title for the text? A. Why Kids Should Learn Science B. Why Science Is Important C. How Kids Can Make Use of Science D. C 【解析】 【原文】M: I can hear 100 compliments and a single abuse, and what do I remember? The abuse. Unfortunately, the human brain always focuses on the negative. So how can we fight the brain’s negative bias? One of the best weapons is gratitude. So I started a project “Thanks a Thousand”. I learned dozens of lessons, but let me just focus on four today. Firstly, look up. I met a cashier Chung in a coffee shop. Chung said that the hardest part of her job is when customers don’t respect her at all. Because they’ll hand her their credit cards without looking up from their phones. So I’m going to take those two seconds, look at them and make eye contact when dealing with people. Alright, secondly, smell the roses and the dirt. I thanked this man Ed Kaufmann. Inspired by Ed, I decided to really let the coffee sit on my tongue for five seconds. Gratitude is about taking a moment and holding on to it as long as possible. Thirdly, find the hidden masterpieces all around you. Now, one of my favorite conversations was with the guy who invented my coffee cup lid, Doug Fleming. And finally, the last lesson I want to tell you is: practice six degrees of gratitude. My hope is that we use gratitude as a flame to action. Thank you a thousand for listening to my story. 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 A France is a country of great food, great fashion, and great art. Five long months after we were approved, the phone rang. 【答案】24. B 25. A 26. A 27. I used to listen to the stories my father would tell me about his stay in Canada and tours to Europe in the 1970s, with great interest. My big moment finally came in the summer of 1998 when I was able to accompany my parents to Europe, where my father was to attend a meeting. For example one cannot love science for very long without becoming good at its language-math! 32. He usually has no time for other subjects. B. He usually loses interest in other activities. C. He is usually bad at such subjects like history. D. He is likely to learn many other subjects well. 35.
